Who is an International Applicant?

How to Apply INTERNATIONAL FRESHMAN The process is competitive, so freshmen are encouraged to apply as soon as possible once the application opens August 1.

1. Application—Apply online at www.applytexas.org. The name on the application should match your passport or birth certificate.

2. Essays—Essays A and B are required and completion of Essay C is strongly encouraged for review and scholarship purposes. 3. Application Fee—Include a nonrefundable $90 application fee (fee is subject to change). Make check/money order payable to Texas A&M University. International applicants are not eligible for fee waivers.

4. Transcript—Include an official high school transcript (from all high schools attended) with an original signature of a school

official or an original school seal. If any transcripts are in a language other than English, an official translation from a recognized translator or a translation verified by a United States Embassy or Consulate must accompany the native language transcript. We will accept copies of official transcripts from other countries provided the copies are verified by the United States institution the applicant is currently attending from students enrolled in the United States. Faxed, emailed and/or notarized copies will not be accepted. Evaluations are not accepted as transcripts. 5. Test Scores—Official SAT/ACT scores with the writing component are required. The highest overall test score from one test date will be used. Scores should be sent directly from the testing agency. The Texas A&M University SAT code is 6003, and the ACT code is 4198. 6. Proof of English Proficiency—See page 2. 7. State of Texas Uniform Admission Policy (UAP)—Applicants graduating from a high school in the United States must meet the State of Texas Uniform Admission Policy. An international applicant is one who is not a United States citizen, permanent resident or applicant for permanent residency in the United States, does not qualify for residency under Senate Bill 1528 and has never attended Texas A&M University as a degreeseeking student. An applicant who is in the United States on a qualifying visa (does not include F, J or B visa types) may establish residency and be eligible to pay in-state tuition and fees; however, he/she must submit the international application and follow all international requirements and deadlines.

Additional Information & Requirements To help ensure timely processing of supporting documents and credentials, please attach the appropriate Texas A&M University Document ID Sheet to all eligible documents. Document ID Sheets can be found at admissions.tamu.edu/doc_ID. Texas A&M University’s administrative offices are closed on Saturday and Sunday. Credentials mailed overnight that are scheduled for Saturday delivery will be delivered and accepted by the University on the next business day.

Receipt of Application Texas A&M University will send an application acknowledgment via email with the Universal Identification Number (UIN) assigned to that applicant. This UIN will be necessary to activate a NetID and login to the Applicant Information System (AIS) at applicant.tamu.edu. Applicants using Yahoo! and Hotmail email accounts are advised to check their “junk mail” folder for correspondence from Texas A&M.

PROOF OF ENGLISH PROFICIENCY Applicants whose native language is not English are required to submit proof of English proficiency, which is satisfied by either test scores or educational credentials as detailed below:

Acceptable Test Scores • a minimum Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 550 p-BT and 80 i-BT or higher, • an SAT Critical Reading score of 500 and/or ACT English score of 21, or • an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of a 6.0 overall band, or • GRE verbal score of 400/146 (excluding CVEN/OCEN, ENGL and BIOT programs).

Acceptable Educational Credentials • Freshman: Completing all four years in a high school within the United States. • Transfer: Transferring from an accredited United States institution with at least 30 transferable semester hours including the equivalent to Texas A&M University ENGL 104 (ENGL 1301). • Graduate: Completing all years of a Bachelor’s degree or higher at an accredited university in the U.S. The Texas A&M University TOEFL reporting code is 6003. Please visit admissions.tamu.edu/international for information regarding test score submission. Additional English testing may be required after admission and before enrollment.

BACTERIAL MENINGITIS IMMUNIZATION HB 62 requires all entering students (under the age of 22) to provide evidence of the vaccination against bacterial meningitis or a signed affidavit declining the vaccine at least 10 days prior to the start of classes. International freshman, transfer and graduate applicants may apply for both admission and merit-based scholarships online at www.applytexas.org. Students should be prepared to demonstrate to the Consular Officer that they have a plan for funding subsequent years of study. New incoming students and currently enrolled students are eligible to complete the International Student Financial Aid Application ESTIMATED COST OF ATTENDANCE* (ISFAA) and apply for aid.
