Culture Inspired by its 2500 years old history, Sri Lanka has a vivid culture. A big part of it is inspired from Buddhism. Art, Sculpture, Music, Dancing, Architecture and everything is a part of this unique culture.
Nature Sri Lanka is blessed to have long sandy beaches, soothing countryside and a wide variety of flora and fauna.
Food Sri Lanka has a wide variety of food influenced by multiple cultures. Usually Sri Lankans are used to eat traditional rice and curry for most of their meals. But we also have lightweight food and snacks like hoppers, string hoppers, rotti etc. And Sri Lankan traditional food includes a special set of sweets too.
Currency Sri Lankan Rupee is the currency used in Sri Lanka. Rupees are available as 25 and 50 cents(not used anymore) 1,2,5 and 10 rupees in coins and 10,20,50,100,500,1000,2000 and 5000 in notes. One American Dollar is exchanged into 145 Sri Lankan rupees (approximately).
Transportation The most popular public transportation methods in Sri Lanka are buses and trains. Specially the train rides through the countryside are very popular among tourists. The other popular vehicle is the tuk tuk. As they are very common in Sri Lankan streets anytime, this three wheeled vehicle is one of the favorite rides of tourists. Apart from these one can always hire a taxi anytime. Here are some apps that could be useful when traveling in Sri Lanka.
