Youth 2 Business AIESEC has always believed that the youth of today are the leaders of tomorrow. AIESEC Youth 2 Business Forum was thus a unique platform that aimed at bridging the gap between the decision makers of today and the future leaders. Through AIESEC India’s Youth 2 Business Forum the youth and the business world came together to discuss Global Trends that affect our society and how to cohesively solves the problems of tomorrow. The Forum included panel discussions and workshops attended by youth from across the top colleges of the country, business leaders, experts and online participants. It brought together 1000 brilliant young minds of the country, policy makers and businesses leaders under one roof to Educate, Envision and Empower India 2020. The 2nd edition of AIESEC India’s Youth 2 Business Forum was held at the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad on the 12th of November 2012. The theme this year was: India 2020. Indian School of Business (ISB) has been ranked number 20 in the Global Top MBA rankings 2012 released by the Financial Times, London. This is the fifth consecutive year that the school has made it to these global rankings. The Indian School of Business evolved from the need for a world-class business school in Asia. The school’s founders recognized that the rapidly changing business landscape would require young leaders with an understanding of evolving economies, but also with a global perspective. The ISB is committed to its role in creating such leaders through its innovative programmes, outstanding faculty and thought leadership.
Panel Discussion The Forum began with a strong message from the keynote speaker, Mr. Ronnie Screwvala. He threw light on the importance of entrepreneurship among rural youth and the role that urban youth have to play in making India a sustainable country. He emphasized on the need to have a vision and the ability to communicate it to everybody. “We’re cynical about corruption and other issues in the country, but you, as young leaders, need to take an initiative and make a difference. This is the platform for you to do it,” he said. The Panel discussion followed thereafter. The theme India 2020 was discussed in great detail and the problems our nation is facing were addressed. The discussion focused on finding a solution and emphasized on the significant role the Youth plays in being the solution. The prestigious panelists included - Mrs. Meera Sanyal, Country Executive and Chairperson India at RBS, Mr. Ronnie Screwvala, CEO and founder chairman of 'UTV Group', Mr. Ajit Rangnekar, Dean at ISB Hyderabad, Mr. Deepak Jolly, Vice-President of Coca-Cola India and and Mr. Jay Galla, MD of Amara Raja Group of Industries. Deepak Jolly highlighted the importance of values aligned with your vision. He spoke about how his own company, while making profits, stands for sustainable community development. For the same reason, they’ve taken up various projects like Parivartan and Support My School. Jay Galla, on the other hand, believes that the role of youth is to question the status quo. “Encourage yourself to question what’s bad and what doesn’t fit in the current scenario. You need to be the change agent in a constantly evolving society. Ajit Rangnekar, delighted with the concept of the forum and AIESEC as an entity, went ahead and announced three scholarships for AIESEC India students of five lakhs each. The panel discussion was followed by several enlightening sessions delivered by the corporate and non-corporate partners.
Corporate Workshop A representative of Coca-Cola India spoke about the initiative the organization has taken up in order to create an impact on the society. Sustainability as an essential principle and culture was discussed. Through the various activities that happen within Coca-Cola, every individual associated with the organization has tried to create a sustainable and positive impact on the community. The speaker addressed the social issues our country is facing and explained the possible solutions. It served as an encouragement for the youth to go ahead and make a difference in a sustainable manner.
RBS: This session focused on Entrepreneurship. Through various examples, the participants were made aware of the importance of perusing their dream. It threw light on the steps that need to be taken to implement a good idea – right from financial support to optimum utilization of resources. The participants realized that implementing an idea or perusing a dream is an achievable task. The leaders of tomorrow need to take matters in their own hand and make the change happen.
Innovation as a value has been given great importance at Vodafone. Their representatives thus discussed innovation and its importance for a brighter and better future. The participants were split into groups where they discussed specific case studies about the implementation of innovative ideas. The case studies were along the lines of technological advancements and development in rural India. The groups presented their innovative ideas and realized that “Innovation” isn’t a farfetched concept.
Edge: Edge attracts and develops talent for Impact Business across emerging markets. Their workshop at AIESEC India's Y2B covered how the large systemic inequalities, poverty and global issues can be solved by business models. The future of entrepreneurship lies in Impact Businesses ie businesses with two bottomlines- profit and impact on society. Through the workshop, they covered global models of this field of business. The workshop was co facilitated by Anoj Vishwanathan, the founder of Milaap.org, who covered how his crowdfunding model was enabling access to finance to lower income populations and his personal journey of entrepreneurship. The workshop ended with a discussion on how Impact Businesses, by solving global issues and being financially sustainable are the future of Entrepreneurship across the world. UNICEF:
Plan India shed light on the lives of vulnerable children and their communities in India, including children living on the streets and those living in urban homeless families: those who are exploited and trafficked; the children of sex workers; and child laborers. Plan India also showcased how they offered to help girls overcome the disadvantage and discrimination they face in everyday life within most communities. Plan India representatives provided students with facts and figures and involved students to make an Action plan of solution to the problem.
The session threw light on the several social entrepreneurs that exist in our country across all communities. India@75, itself, has supported and facilitated several such groups, to help them bring about change. It taught the participants about the ease with which an individual or a community can make their dreams a reality. The participants were split into groups, wherein they could discuss the their ideas and find the resources to implement those ideas. The session helped the participants realize that every individual can contribute, make a difference and shape the future.
Teach For India: The current education system and its future in our country were discussed at the session. The participants were encouraged to find solutions to the existing problems in the education sector. Groups of 10 were made and each group was given a different problem to find a solution to. The groups were made to think in a manner that would merge the business and management strategies with the objective of creating a long-term positive impact. The ideas thus generated were unique and solution-oriented.
Meera Sanyal – Women Empowerment: The session was about Mrs. Meera sharing amazing stories about the work women in some of the villages in India do. This was connected to how a woman can be strong and talked about how it’s not about being famous, it is about being determined in whatever you do. The participants then formed groups of 10 where each individual shared his/her story and ambitions. Each group picked one dream and every individual within that group contributed to how they would help convert the individuals dream into reality.
Dey Dos - Leadership: This session was all about how ethical you are as a individual and how you drive this characteristic when you are leading a team. How efficient you are when you are part of the team. how much you are contributing to a social cause and eradicating certain issues from society being ethical. Like corruption, which is most burning, issues in India. 10 people were divided in each group to create a out put and send to ministry of govt. Through the sessions the participants were taken through the various avenues for the youth to explore and innovate.
Evening panel The evening panel of speakers included Purab Kohli, Dia Mirza and Sahil Sangha. The panelists spoke about the Power of Youth- how they can make a difference and how much their voice matters. Sahil Sangha talked about the significance on a young role model and the intensity of impact he/she can create. Purab and Dia shared their personal experience to stress on the current significance and relevance of the Youth Voice. Through a little activity, they made the participants realize the power of unity in the youth voice.
