Imagine you are at a stand during clubs day and you are suppose to promote oGCDP and membership in AIESEC. You have a pretty clear idea of what oGCDP is, because we call it Global Citizen externally and we have certain issues and countries for Global Citizen. At that very moment someone asks you about membership in AIESEC. What do you say? We do OGX, ICX or a bit of everything? Unless you are really clear in your communication, it is going to be confusing. Externally (and internally) we have had an issue with setting the right expectations about membership in AIESEC. That is why we introduce a membership product. This product is designed to establish clear expectations externally and internally about what it means to be a member of AIESEC.

We established a need to position ourselves and our membership programmes externally. We created an internal Learning & Development scheme to further the organisation through member development. Instead of thinking only external and internal, why not put them together? This will create stronger understanding and will also prove a strong foundation for future improvements. Youth Talent is the membership product and will be included in our increasingly defined product portfolio of Global Talent and Global Citizen.

The idea and beginning of creating membership products were put into place at the TM Summit 13|14 and re-evaluated at NSS 13|14. The development of the products are based on the idea that we can cluster what we do in AIESEC in other ways than functional (OGX, ICX etc.).

Instead we are looking at the tasks that we action in AIESEC, which skills/behaviors are needed to perform the task and which skills/behaviors will be developed through performing the tasks.

Having a membership product means that we are effectively marketing and promoting a product (just as with Global Citizen or Global Talent). This booklet will include descriptions and guidelines for the product and its subproducts. Internally it means that we need to think about what kind of people we need and ultimately want to attract. Because each subproduct comes with needed skills/behaviors we have a very clear idea of who we are looking for, how we can assess them and who we should choose to join the organisation.

From the MC’s side we will provide visual materials for Youth Talent promotion for the first time for the membership recruitment in Sem1 2014. This will mainly be surrounding flyers and posters, but also virtually as we strive to share the stories of the current membership in AIESEC NZ. You are highly encouraged to share your own story.

In the following section we will look at the 3 subproducts under the Youth Talent product. We will describe each subproduct, the tasks involved and the skills we are looking for in the students applying. The skills that are used are taken from the L&D initiative, which can be found here.

The first step into implementing Youth Talent is to use it externally. Future steps to implement a strong membership product (and further develop it) are using the products internally to assign/allocate accordingly, plan education around it (for example conferences) and in the last instance processes according to the products. For now, we are talking about external member recruitment.

This was an introduction to Youth Talent as a product. From now until recruitment starts the MC and LCs will be in constant communication about needs in the LCs, assessment of these and visual materials for the promotion.
