In the beginning of the year the legalities around visa's for us changed. Which made it more difficult to run our Global Talent product and have people from abroad work in an internship in Antwerp. Due to these issues, our Global Talent product sadly decreased in comparison to last year.

AIESEC was founded in 1948 by students from Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden. Our fundamentals were shaped by the social, economic and political climate of the time after the second world war. Since then, the world has been changing faster than ever before.
We believe that young people hold the key to a better future and they must learn to adapt quickly to solve problems. By living cross-cultural experiences, they will develop understanding of other cultures and other people's perspectives better. This is why AIESEC strives to achieve peace and fulfillment of humankind’s potential.
In today’s context, ‘peace’ does not exclusively mean avoiding war. Peace can symbolize a world that does not have conficts that arise from cultural, religious or other aspects of differences in humanity. Next to that, peace can symbolize being in harmony with yourself. AIESEC strives to build a world where people can work towards their own understanding of peace, while respecting and understanding the views of others. Through “Fulfillment of Humankind’s Potential, AIESEC strives for a world where people can be the best version of themselves.
We place our confidence in youth because they are the future and have the passion, dynamism and entrepreneurial spirit that are needed to shape the future. They have the responsibility to improve tomorrow by choosing who they will be today.
AIESEC is a platform for young people to explore and develop their leadership potential. After going through an AIESEC experience, young people are better prepared to make a positive impact in any sphere they choose.
AIESEC’s unique leadership development model seeks to prepare youth to take a stand on what they care about and become capable to make a difference through their everyday actions. That is why our answer is to develop the characteristics below according to the largest world issues and trends. These characterics are fundamentals, which enable the life-long leadership journey of young people.
AIESEC provides an opportunity for young people to work or volunteer abroad in non-familiar environments. This allows them to step outside their comfort zone and expand their world view, while contributing to the community where they are working. Living such experiences enables people to build a better understanding on how to communicate and capitalize on diversity in our increasingly connected world. Secondly, AIESEC wants to develop leadership and cross-cultural understanding in their members. AIESEC members work in teams to create and manage these crosscultural exchange experiences. This provides an opportunity for our members to live powerful team experiences and develop their own leadership potential.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a collection of 17 global goals set by the United Nations. They cover a broad range of social and economic development issues, as you can see below. The SDGs are also known as “Transforming our World: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development” or Agenda 2030 in short. The goals were developed to replace the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) which ended in 2015. Unlike the MDGs, the SDG framework does not distinguish between “developed” and “developing” nations. Instead, the goals apply to all countries. AIESEC is one of the United Nations partners to reach these 17 goals. We promote and encourage participation in the implementation of the Global Goals for Sustainable Development. We do not only do this by creating awareness, but also by linking them to all of our Global Volunteer projects. Every young person choosing to go on a volunteering experience with AIESEC, also chooses to contribute to one of these SDG’s.
To make sure our customers have a good experience we have 16 standards to ensure quality experiences. By making sure every standard is delivered, we also want to guarantee that our exchange participants develop leadership skills during their exchange. We also find it important to get feedback from our exchange participants. Therefore, they will be able to fll in a survey after their experience. In this survey, they can inform us whether all the standards were delivered or not. When the standards are delivered during an exchange experience and the exchange participants fills in the survey positively, then this exchange experience will be called a "completed experience". This way, AIESEC tries to measure the amount of completed experiences to see how the organization can improve standards delivery.

I was crying goodbye to my parents at the airport and stepping through the security, on my way to Vietnam. Incredibly scared, but so excited at the same time. Ready for that big adventure that was going to change my life – as they told me at OPS. Six weeks later on my last evening in Vietnam, we were sitting on the rooftop of the house were I taught English. I was crying again, but for a different reason this time. I was scared again, but because I didn’t want people to forget me. I didn’t want to go home, to that same old routine. I wanted to help more, and longer. I wanted to feel alive, like I did there. It’s the people that made my journey complete. I totally integrated in the Vietnamese culture (without forgetting cooking delicious food and eating it with my chopsticks like a professional), and the other volunteers taught me so much about their own culture too. Those small, amazing children taught me how being truly rich has nothing to do with money, and everything with feeling alive. I learned how to be on my own and handle difficult things just by myself, but at the same time, I learned how easy it is to love. I learned how easy it is to feel alive, and how great it feels. And most of all, I learned that you can feel alive everywhere; in Belgium too. And that’s why I don’t miss Vietnam that much (ignoring the fact that I’m looking at my pictures every other day): I brought a little piece home.

At the beginning I had to change my expectations and behavior a bit, but with the help of all these people I really felt part of this community, even though I will always look like a gringo. 5 month's ago I started my Global Talent project in Nokia thanks to AIESEC Belgium. At first I was super excited about going to another country to start my professional career in such a big company. Now that almost half of my project is done, the excitement from the new experience has been replaced from the everyday challenges that I face in the office. I am growing in ways that I did not expected, thanks to a challenging work in a supportive environment. Now I am way more confident about my skills and my potential, I am looking forward to discover what the future will provide me. Being in AIESEC has helped me in a lot of ways, not only my professional skills improved a lot in the past months, I also learned new things about other cultures and people. Being a part of AIESEC has helped me grow a lot in the past year, but what I enjoyed most was that AIESEC gave me the chance to help other people grow. I never thought I would join a student organization and that too a worldwide based. Stepping out of my comfort zone was the best decision I could make. I discovered myself, qualities that I never knew I had. From taking firm decisions to persuading people, from making new friends in Belgium till South-America, from conferences till teambuilding was everything because of AIESEC.There were ups and downs on the way but as a team we never gave up and finally we achieved our desired goal. So with determination, consistency and many brainstorm sessions we did it. Lastly knowing that you contribute in making the world a better place is one hell of a feeling!

A couple of months ago I decided I wanted a new challenge in life. I had always been very interested in AIESEC and what it stands for, so I decided to just go for it. I became a member at an atypical time, but quickly noticed this didn’t matter at all. Everybody welcomed me with open arms, and immediately, I became a part of this team, a part of the AIESEC family. Not only have I met some wonderful people in the past months, I’ve also improved myself personally, professionally and school wise. Joining AIESEC was undoubtedly my best decision of 2019. I have owned an amazing experience and created things I could not imagine myself to be capable of. This is definitely something that really makes me proud of. I'm proud calling myself an AIESEC member. In my position in AIESEC in the Marketing team, together with my team members and VP we organized events, invented new marketing strategies for off-/online marketing, we came with great ideas while we had a lot of fun. This is the perfect mix between getting to know diverse people to send abroad and give them a once-in-a-lifetime experience. This experience made me much more confident and aware about how to increase my strengths, how to handle my weaknesses and how to change them into strengths. And the best thing about it: I work together with the most incredibly people.
They asked me to sum up my experience in AIESEC in a few sentences and honestly, where do I start? So many thoughts cross my mind when I think of our beloved organization: new, powerful, young, enriching, people, experiences, learning by doing… From all the things I’ve done in life, being a part of AIESEC has made me grow the most. They taught me the importance of effective communication, of planning ahead, of being open towards and mindful of others. Most importantly, they taught me to look closely at myself and to realize that I’m responsible for my actions and experiences. Nothing will happen if you don’t take a chance, and with the right people there to support you, growth is inevitable. I’ve learned all this while being a member and I can’t wait to reflect on my term as VP Marketing this time next year.

My journey started with AIESEC University of Antwerp. I got to know them on one of KdG's info sessions about our international internship, and signed up at their booth immediately. I quickly received opportunities tailored to the requests I made in my registration form, which was great, since I was in direct contact with one of their outgoing team members. Laure Ann listened to my remarks, and found the perfect fit for me after only a few attempts.The process that followed afterwards was so smooth, I barely had to do anything. After my acceptance at Kinderpedia, AIESEC took care of everything. I didn't have to worry about finding a place to stay, or figuring out Romanian culture since they supported me every step of the way. Thanks to their impeccable service I got to leave for my internship stress free, sure that everything would be arranged once I arrived.Besides that, my experience their was as great as you would think it would be. I got to know people from over 10 different nationalities, improved myself on a personal level, as well as on a professional level, got to contribute in a meaningful way to Kinderpedia, and so much more. Thank you to AIESEC again, both Antwerp and University of Bucharest. Eternally grateful for this opportunity!

What I loved most about my time as a member of the talent management team was the opportunity to create amazing friendships. As I am really a people person, TM seemed like the perfect fit: you can practice your human resources skills within a small team while being part of a big organisation. I loved the one-on-one conversations with the members to make sure they enjoyed their time in AIESEC as much as I did. Besides the human resources part, the event part was also much fun. I've developed my organisation skills and I have learned how to manage stressful situations. Of course it is not all work, the team buildings are a great way to relax and catch up with the people from other teams. I will definitely miss my time in AIESEC a lot!
Hello, I am Sarah Vertommen and I was part of AIESEC in UAntwerp in the track Talent Management since February 2019. Here I ended up with 3 very sweet people who received me well. Last year I learned a lot and made a lot of new friends. It was a first experience for me to organize events and work together as a real team. Not only organizing the events, but also coaching other members within AIESEC was very instructive. Not everything always went smoothly, but also these problems were solved as good as possible. What I liked most were the teambuildings. Once a month we went with all of AIESEC UAntwerp on teambuilding, these events were always very fun. I got to know my fellow members better and of course there was a lot of laughter. I really liked all of this, that is why I will stay next term in AIESEC. Besides this I would like to thank my VP, Maarten Hermans. He made me feel right at home in the group and also helped me with my duties within AIESEC. It is also thanks to him that I ended up in AIESEC and I am very happy with this. It has given me a different perspective on life! That is why I can certainly recommend everyone to come and work as a volunteer at AIESEC.
