Message from the President


During the past year, I was able to live an extremely powerful leadership experience as the President of AIESEC at the University of Antwerp. When I look back to compare who I was when I joined AIESEC as a member in 2013 and the person I have become today, I could not imagine a more impactful journey of personal development. This year, I was truly able to witness the effect of our operations.

Flexibility and agility in our teams and operations enabled us to fully implement the new global Customer Flow. We started our digital transformation in 2015 - today, our customers go through an entirely new inbound journey starting from the online Youth Opportunity Portal. Roles and responsibilities were re-drawn and by aligning ourselves to a common goal, we made it happen.

In AIESEC, we develop leadership in young people through global, cross-cultural exchanges. We are the world’s largest youth-led organisation. Students in Antwerp have the opportunity to join the organisation as an active member or contribute through various leadership positions. As AIESEC’ers, we work every day to facilitate exchange experiences in order to create responsible and entrepreneurial leaders. Moreover, by having a position in AIESEC, we are able to develop our own leadership qualities through our own engagement and dedication.

As we continuously strive to innovate, we piloted two new concepts on-campus, focusing on the Sustainable Development Goals. During the YouthSpeak Forum, we brought together both young and senior leaders to form a diverse cross-sector and multi-generational space for inspiring conversations around pressing global issues. In the SDG Cup competition, students solved business cases connected to one of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Over the course of the past months, I have seen our members and exchange participants become world citizens, develop a solution-oriented mindset, improve their self-awareness and empower others around them. These qualities are the characteristics we aim to develop in every young person in the world. Our vision for the past term was to focus on our core purpose: leadership development through exchange. This vision led us to some very concrete projects and focus points. First and foremost, we geared our efforts towards delivering better and more aligned experiences for our exchange participants - both for students from Antwerp going abroad and graduates from all over the world having their first working experience in Antwerp. We decided to put our customers’ experience front and center. This led to us participating and completing the Customer Experience Challenge by AIESEC International, for which we received special recognition as we completed this challenge (over 40 specific tasks) 100%.

This year, the AIESEC in Belgium network worked together closely. We smoothly co-delivered trainee opportunities at companies in Brussels and Leuven. Together with the entire network, we took an important step for long-term growth by designing and implementing the Organizational Development Model which will guide us into growing AIESEC in Belgium sustainably. We were able to start capitalizing on the strong foundations laid out by our predecessors and turn this into concrete impact. My gratitude goes out to our members, the national team, the University of Antwerp and our partnering companies - all of whom are crucial to making our exchanges happen. I am very proud to view the positive changes that have happened this year and excited to see what the future holds!

Why, how and what


Since then, the world has been changing faster than ever before. We believe that young people hold the key to a better future and they must learn to adapt quickly to solve problems. This is why AIESEC strives to peace and fulfillment of humankind’s potential.

Annual Report

AIESEC was founded after the second world war by students from Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden. Our fundamentals were shaped by the social, economic and political climate of the time.

In today’s context, ‘Peace’ does not exclusively mean avoiding war. Peace can symbolize a world that does not have conflicts that arise from cultural, religious, or other aspects of differences in humanity. Peace can also symbolize being in harmony with yourself. AIESEC strives to build a world where people can work towards their own understanding of peace, while respecting and understanding the views of others.

Through “Fulfillment of Humankind’s Potential, AIESEC strives for a world where people can be the best version of themselves.

Cross-cultural exchanges AIESEC provides an opportunity for young people to work or volunteer abroad in non-familiar environments. This allows them to step outside their comfort zone and expand their world view, while contributing to the community in which they are working. Living such experiences enables people to build a better understanding on how to communicate and capitalize on divesity in our increasingly connected world. ING Excellence in Leadership Award

The Excellence in Leadership Award is given to people who have developed and demonstrated outstanding overall leadership qualities throughout the year.

AIESEC and ING share the same commitment towards leadership development, because in a world advancing at an unprecedented pace, we need leadership more than ever in order to tackle the arising challenges. That is why ING aims to build positive, inspiring leadership from the inside out.


Towards a better value delivery In AIESEC we enable people to live a lifechanging experience in a cross-cultural challenging environment through three different exchange programs, Global Talent and Global Entrepreneur on a professional level and Global Volunteer on a voluntary basis. My teams guide students through their AIESEC experience from beginning until the end. As a Vice President Outgoing Exchange one of my main focus points for OGX this year was improving customer experience. We are focusing on turning every AIESEC experience into an even more ‘powerful leadership experience’ by focusing on Value Delivery towards our Exchange Participants. Concretely we improved the support given to every lead from the start, by improving our application and administrative support and implementing outgoing preparation support through a one day ‘Outgoing Preparation Seminar’, providing the participant culture

preparation, expectation setting, goal setting and a leadership development space. Another focus of our track is to extend our reach and to capitalize on our University Relations by collaborating with KDG, from now on all students have the possibility to do their mandatory internship for credits through AIESEC. My last major focus is to turn every AIESECer into an AIESEC ambassador by improving the knowledge of our exchange programs among members of other tracks. Therefore we launched the AIESEC Exchange Challenge and organised several Local Committee Meetings around our exchanges.

Marijke Hoekstra I inspired others in a multitude of ways. Of course by inviting them to take part in our programs, but also within my team i tried to contribute to a positive and constructive atmosphere. I got mostly positive feedback about this attitude, so I think I can conclude I attributed in a solid way. In my first year in AIESEC I had a very good experience. I met a lot of like minded people, some of which became good friends as well. Overall I can say that even one year in AIESEC was a game changer. I look forward to learning even more the coming years in different positions within AIESEC!

Sarah Andries I tried to help students to find a global volunteering opportunity they would like to experience and tried to help them with solving their questions about the opportunity. In this way I helped them to do something for the world, to get to know other cultures, to develop themselves and to have an awesome experience. The most important thing I learned from joining AIESEC was coming out of my comfort zone and daring to speak other languages. I was forced to explain myself in other languages multiple times because of the international side of AIESEC. Thus now I am more confident and I learned how to handle new situations.

Integrating cultures

With my Global Talent experience, AIESEC UA provides me the right tools for my leadership development. It is all about great stakeholder management with an excellent experience delivery. Plus, the opportunity to kickstart my marketing career at a global level enables me to develop inumerous professional skills. Because of this, I can only say that working as an AIESEC intern at Nokia Belgium has been an unbelivable experience so far!

the experience of every trainee through our new buddy reception. It was heartwarming to see that trainees were invited to team buildings and came to our events to promote exchange and talk about their experiences. In my opinion, this is the most effective way to convince our high potentials to take the step, to go on exchange. I am grateful to see that every member of the track tries to contribute to every experience. I am happy to see that the trainees are fully involved and are invited by members to join their social life with friends also when the activity is not related to an AIESEC experience. It is fantastic to see how so many different cultures, different backgrounds and different languages have so much fun together.

Think about an experience that helps you grow not only as a professional, but also as a human beign, while working with multicultural colleagues from all around the world. Althought it sounds imposible, AIESEC UA proved me that dreams are close to become real if you work for them. The Global Talent Experience of AIESEC UA allow me to improve my leadership capacities, with strong team oriented skills while improving technical and organizational habilities. Working at Nokia as an Aiesec intern boost my career in marketing and my personal perspective about the world.

The core of AIESEC is all about exchanges. More specifically, the incoming exchange track tries to provide an optimal service towards both the company and the trainee. By finding a match between the company and the trainee, a life changing experience can start. In the incoming exchange track, two different teams are daily involved by supporting the trainee and our partnering companies through their experience. On the one hand, the account team is involved in the matching process between the company and the trainee and assist trainees in the VISA procedure. On the other hand, the buddy reception team provides housing and helps the trainees with other practical needs such as insurances, registration, social activities etc. As a Vice president Incoming Exchange, my main focus point of this term is the visibility of our trainees in our local committee. Besides my aim to increase our number of exchanges and provide a supportive service towards our partnering companies, our trainees reflect the message of AIESEC. Every track was involved in

Joyce De Clerck - Team Leader As part of the ICX track, I had the chance to visit companies. On the one hand, I had to negotiate and close contracts with them. On the other hand, I had to visit the companies to gain feedback, so that AIESEC can improve itself constantly. Furthermore, my members and I had to find the appropriate trainees that fit the companies perfectly. As a team leader, I had the opportunity to lead a team of three members. This helped me to develop my leadership and organizing skills.

Elise Stynen I learned that young people are full of potential. AIESEC is a huge international organization that is mostly run by young people, and it works amazingly well! Furthermore, I learned that I, personally, have to be more confident and open to opportunities. I would advise all students that want to join AIESEC but are scared of this, to just do it! Every AIESEC member is extremely nice and willing to give everybody a chance, so there really is no reason to be scared! Plus, you gain a lot by being a part of AIESEC.

Growing companies and skills In the External Relations track, we build a bridge between the academic world and the professional world by establishing relationships with interesting companies. In doing this, we are looking how AIESEC can provide added value to the business and to make the company grow. Most of the time, the members of the ER track have never gotten in touch with HR-directors, CEO’s or founders of companies in the beginning of the year. During the year, they go through an amazing transformation and now, in May, I’m proud to say that I have seen every member and team leader of ER grow in this process. Members usually start contacting companies through cold calling or at network events. The main purpose of this first interaction is to book a meeting where they will explain Global Talent. This program gives young high potentials from all over the world the opportunity to go work abroad.

To make this happen, every member gets the required education and training. The whole External Relations team got several professional sales trainings where they learnt different ways on how to contact companies, things to keep in mind,... On top of that, all of the members received proper guidance and support from their team leader. When I look at the motivation and the accomplishments of every single member and team leader of ER, I’m happy I can finish my term also knowing that my successor will do a great job!

Leveraging on our core values The Communications track (COMM) is responsible for all internal and external communication, marketing channels and designs of AIESEC UA. This track also supports others in their marketing efforts and ensures that all IT systems are well integrated and understood by members of AIESEC UA. We think about how to convey the message of our projects, exchanges and so on in the most effective way to students, companies and general stakeholders. We did this using social media, email, print, events and other tools. This, combined with a unique branding style aligned with our international guidelines, is what made up our team. One of the first challenges is to communicate a consistent, clear message throughout all of our channels. With a clear decision to grow our recognition as an organisation for leadership development through exchanges, we moved away from our legacy of company-related events and searched for a new balance with long-time partners.

Another challenge was to implement a new customer flow for our exchange products midterm. We worked towards a more automated marketing environment, with marketing automation tools and lead nurturing. This requires more planning in advance, but improves the overall customer experience. A last challenge will be to remain relevant and communicate that relevance in an everchanging environment. Young people have access to dozens of exchange opportunities by increasingly more providers. We need to inform people correctly that the focus on leadership development is a huge differentiator.

While being a member of AIESEC I got and improved a lot of skills. Some of them are working as a team, contributing to one goal that all of the members want to achieve, organising events and being responsible for your own task in a track. Exchange experiences through local events Project Management can be considered the notice board of AIESEC on campus. By organizing events, in all possible sizes and shapes, we try to connect with our fellow students and let them realize what AIESEC can mean for them. During the organization of an event, we meet quite a lot of people; students, professors, company representatives, but also internally there is a lot of cooperations between the different tracks. Project Management experiences a close collaboration with ER, our sales department, for the content of some events, as well as with Communications for our marketing and promotion campaigns. The Finance track also has its share with composing and monitoring the stated budgets. This year’s biggest challenge was to accomplish the goal that we, as the EB of 1617, have set for this term: raising the number of OGX experiences provided by our LC. By creating two cross-track teams of motivated AIESECers, we accomplished to organize two major events for the promotion of the programs we offer. This way, members

could accept an additional responsibility, or even become Organizing Committee President for one of both events. Further, we managed organizing nearly the same number of events as last year, relying on only half the amount of members. Through a proper recruitment and an efficient way of working we succeeded in our task. With the proposed transition from PM to PR during the next term, all roads are again open. New methods can be tried out, and a refreshed approach towards the students and companies can provide other and new opportunities. I wish the EB of 1718 all the best of luck with their term and further AIESEC career!

That they were able to take on new challenges and develop themselves as a person and as a leader. Taking on that role of leader was harder than I originally thought. And there were definitely some struggles at times, but hard work pays off. At the end of the year, I feel a lot more comfortable taking on a leading role.

The PM Team Aurélie Delwaide During this year, I feel like I've grown as a person. My best experience was the Speeddate. It was the first event that we organized all by our21 selves in small teams. We did everything, from contacting the companies to making the snacks to speeching at the event itself. At the end of the day, I felt really proud of myself.

Lise Annaert Jens Matthé I have had a lot of opportunities last 2 years. Nowadays I know better how to start working on a project and to think what has to be done on a practical way. I learned how to prepare presentations about a project idea and about a lot of tips and tricks to manage an interview. This year I had the chance to lead my own Organising Committee so I have not only learned to work with people but also to lead people.

Guiding members in exploring their potential Talent Management (Human Resources) mainly focuses on the current and potential future members of AIESEC UA to make sure that each of them gets the most out of their AIESEC experience. At the start of my term as Vice President Talent Management, I had three goals: implementation of LC education, Implementation of a coaching system in the LC and Alumni management. Thanks to the great work of my first team ‘People & Development’ we were able to reach the first two goals. This team is comparable to the Human Resources departement of an organization. Their job is to guarantee the education and the well being of the members. During the year this team organised different workshops like: ‘The wolf of AIESEC’, ‘From idea to business, photoshop, leadership skills, … We were able to bring the alumni closer to the

LC by organizing the first alumni meeting in September and during the workshops we had a few alumni as guest speakers. I would like to thank them for the collaboration. My second team ‘Recruitment & Internal Projects’ is responsible for the organization of several events for our members, some great examples are Students on Stage, a Christmas Party,.. . This team also takes care of the recruitment. The results of Talent Management were only possible thanks to my two team leaders and their members, so I would like to thank them for their hard work and motivation during the year.

The workshops focussed on your personal development and they were actually very relevant. It was such an enriching experience!

Startegic impact through enabling financing Finance is the strategic back office of AIESEC UA. We ensure the financial health of our organization by allocating funds to interesting projects and initiatives, by keeping track of the books and by giving customized advice to everybody involved. Secondly the Finance department takes care of all the legal obligations both internal as external to enable the efficient governance of our organization. For this year I had 3 main goals. First of all I wanted to bring finance back to finance, meaning that my team would really be involved in finance and legal operations like budget reviews, cases, compendium reviews etc. This has been a great improvement for the practical learning experience in this department. Secondly I tackled the lack of knowledge about the budgets which resulted in more efficient usage of funds, more in advance planning of expenses and more transparency about the overall performance. Lastly I wanted the budgets to fully support enable exchange growth, which

was accomplished by good communication and co-creation from the beginning of the year. As VP Finance, I was honored with the big responsibility that came with this position and the strategic impact that I had made this experience truly inspiring. I am happy to see that the Finance department has gone through a positive change and I am excited to see how this is taken forward in the future.

My best AIESEC experience was and is the fact that I came into contact with so many great people. I learned some soft and hard

As the finance team we're on a little distant from the core business of AIESEC. We mostly went over subjects involving finances of course and innovation. The weekly meetings were the most interesting actually and

even fun. There's not one single best moment in my AIESEC experience but the big picture itself was a great experience. I learned to be more open-minded.
