Introduction Dear Candidate, Congratulations for taking the first step of a journey that will take you to new challenges, new ides and achievements; a journey of self discovery, passion and courage. A term as MCP is the most exciting and intense experiences that you can live in AIESEC, it provides opportunity to expand your horizons, experience different country and impact a generation. The role you are applying for is demanding, challenging it does not require just a combination of skills and characteristics, but someone who is ready to test his limits, someone who can live and breathe as an MCP; it requires a lot effort, strength and courage. The upcoming term in AIESEC UAE promises to be an exciting one - full of results and learning, but also challenges. The potential for growth is here, both in AIESEC and in the country, but we are barely scratching the surface of what we can achieve for the past

About UAE and Gulf Region A perspective AIESEC in the MENA region kicked

off at IC 2006 in Poland. Egypt and Morocco were part of the Africa GN and Tunisia being was part of CEE. MENA GN connected these North African countries with the new Middle Eastern countries.

With AIESEC in UAE being established in 2001, and having Bahrain and Qatar to be official expansions at IC 2006, and Jordan becoming an official expansion at IPM 2007, the MENA region is a new and dynamic AIESEC growth network with many opportunities and chances that are yet to be taken. AIESEC in MENA is special and unique, and being part of that GN is an experience on its own.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a federation of seven states formed in 1971 by the then Trucial States after independence from Britain.

The world’s tallest building Burj Khalifa

Since then, it has grown from a quiet backwater to one of the Middle East’s most important economic centers. The seven emirates are: Abu Dhabi(also the capital), Dubai(largest city), Sharjah,

Ras Al Khaimah, Umm al Quwain, Al Fujairah, Ajman Before oil was discovered in the 1950s the UAE’s economy was dependent on fishing and a declining pearl industry. But since 1962, when Abu Dhabi became the first of the emirates to begin exporting oil, the country’s society and economy have been transformed. The late Sheikh Zayed, ruler of Abu Dhabi and president of the UAE at its inception, was quick to seize on the potential of the oil industry. He oversaw the development of all the emirates and directed oil revenues into healthcare, education and the national infrastructure. The oil industry has attracted a large influx of foreign workers who, together with expatriates, now make up more than three quarters of the population. But the UAE’s authorities also tried to reduce its dependency on oil exports by diversifying the economy, creating booming business, tourism and construction sectors.

approach, Dubai, which has far smaller oil reserves, was bolder in its diversification policy. Particularly during the credit boom that built up after 2000, Dubai sought to turn itself into the financial gateway and cosmopolitan hub of the Middle East. It also began attracting vast amounts of foreign investment for ever more ambitious construction projects, most famously the Burj Khalifa skyscraper - the world’s current tallest man-made structure - and futuristic land reclamation projects, such as the palmshaped artificial Palm Islands. Dubai in particular was hit by the 2009 global financial crisis, and the property sector and construction went into decline. However, tourism, trade and the retail sector have remained buoyant. Though Emiratis are traditionally conservative, the UAE is one of the most liberal countries in the Gulf, with other cultures and beliefs generally tolerated, especially in Dubai.

While Abu Dhabi remained relatively conservative in its

2011 -2013: The Slow Way Up In the past years the entity is slowly recovering and re-building the foundations. The membership and leadership pipeline are slowly being set into place, after experiencing the consequences of that and closing the LCs in Abu Dhabi and Sharjah due to lack of members to continue the activities. The LCs in Dubai are being divided and the efforts on starting new expansions is focused on high-potential entitles, that can generate results within their first year of existence.

2009-2010: The Hard Years Externally the Global Crisis impacted highly the financial sustainability of the entity, most of the National partners are retained, but with much lesser amounts; Exchange numbers drop significantly as well. Internally the unstable of Leadership & Membership pipeline is reflection on the state of the LCs, especially the ones out of Dubai(in Abu Dhabi and Sharjah) and the MC; and the stability of the entity as a whole; After loosing the membership in 2008 we fail to regain it and start generating debt towards AI, from unpaid country fees. At the end of 2010 UAE hosts the Gulf conference and this renewed the tradition of the Leadership forums.

The focus on events is slowly moving towards iGIP, as we currently run events for positioning and attracting partners to generate higher amount of partnerships and to repay the inherited internal debt towards AI. Still there is a lot more to happen to reach the results from the past, the goal of the current team is to generate as high amount as possible iGIP partnerships and also to sustain the newly opened expansions. The potential for growth is here, and we are optimist that by the end of the term the entity will be on the right path to stand on its own to feet. But there is a need of finding the right path for exponential growth that will be the key to success.
