The artist that inspired me was Steven Holl, a New York-based American architect and watercolorist. His conceptual formulations to create real buildings that incorporate a signature use of color, an impression of ‘poetry’ within physical places, and a constant preciosity of his foundational architectural sentiment. Furthermore, the major theme in his work is the impact of light on structures.

Steven Holl explored the way natural light reflected off of buildings at different times of the day and in various weather conditions. In my opinion, the Loisium Visitor Center was designed by irregular patterns and polygons. The texture of the building was made by a material that can be reflected by light, which shows a strong sense of shape. What I did was draw with a pencil the different perspective of the Loisium Visitor Center, elaborate the shapes, then design

with related concepts and themes. Furthermore, I added more of my own ideas to the design.

My initial idea was developed after drawing out the Loisium Visitor Center, the irregular patterns on the exterior of the building attracted me. The buildings were formed by different polygons. I think I’ll take the concept of different shapes and patterns as my reference.

Moreover, Steven Holl uses light to highlight the structure of the architects, this gave me an inspiration of making an architectural sculpture with lots of spaces. As well as building the structure with different shapes. The works that I’m proud of are pencil drawings. This is because the drawing demonstrated my ideas well. The meaning and theme of my sculpture and design is using spaces to show the structure throughout my design. Furthermore, when the light gets through the sculpture the shapes make the light different.
