Air New Zealand - Skycouch

Over the past few weeks’ Air New Zealand’s ‘Skycouch’ product (where an economy row becomes a sleeping area) has been featured extensively in English speaking news media.

The coverage all stems from a post from leading Australian travel blogger, Adel Barbaro, who shared information on her Facebook page about how the Skycouch is an excellent economy option for families.

Adel’s Facebook post has received 37k comments so far, and has been featured in publications ranging from The Sun to Metro, to the New Zealand Herald featuring it.

This is obviously a prime example of how one positive post by someone active on social media can generate masses of positive PR.

It also comes as Air New Zealand won the APEX/IFSA Best Product or Service award at the Airline Passenger Experience Association (APEX) Awards in Los Angeles.

While the Skycouch product was initially introduced in 2011, Air New Zealand has since made further enhancements to it, including introducing a dedicated infant harness allowing infants to remain lying down throughout the cruise phase of flight, new infant pod, and modifications to the existing Skycouch Cuddle Belt which mean two children can share the Skycouch lying side by side.
