AN OVERVIEW OF THE CRUSAID CHARITY

Crusaid was launched in the UK in 1986 as a direct response to the AIDS epidemic that began in that decade. The charity worked for many years to provide direct assistance to people from poor or marginalised backgrounds living with HIV or AIDS.

Services

T

he work of Crusaid includes education projects, raising awareness, provision of support and a Hardship Fund, and working to enable communities and individuals to improve quality of life and retain their dignity while dealing with HIV and AIDS.

PROJECTS AND FUNDING Some of the earliest work of Crusaid involved the issuing of grants, with one of the first being issued to help fund the London Lighthouse hospice. Crusaid has also helped individuals who cannot afford funeral expenses and given grants to the outpatient clinic the Kobler Centre.

2008 WALK FOR LIFE The 2008 Walk for Life organised by Crusaid was the largest walk for HIV and AIDS in the whole of Europe. The sponsored walk took in sights such as Buckingham Palace, the London Eye and Millennium Bridge in a circuitous route starting and ending in Potter’s Fields Park.

In 2011 Crusaid was merged into the Terrence Higgins Trust charity. Learn more by visiting the blog of Ajab Samrai.
