INTRODUCING BRAC NGO BRAC is a non-governmental organisation working out of Bangladesh and operating in 14 countries worldwide, providing aid and assistance in the fields of economic development, education, public health and disaster relief.

BRAC operates a microfinance programme to provide collateral-free loans, mostly to women from rural backgrounds who are landless and poor, facilitating improvements in living standards. The repayment rate stands at 98% for BRAC microfinance loans.

BRAC provides public healthcare facilities and primary education institutions in Bangladesh, focusing on some of the most disadvantaged groups of people in the country. The educational focus is on lessening the education gap between male and female school attendance and incentivising school attendance with programmes such as free school meals. BRAC healthcare helps increase awareness of legal issues against women, including domestic violence and acid throwing attacks.

BRAC also provides disaster relief, which has recently included response aid to victims of the 2007 Cyclone Sidr. One of the major activities of BRAC in current times is working with the displaced Rohingya people, exiled from Myanmar and living in refugee camps in Bangladesh.
