Georgia’s uniqe tourist attraction has officially working where guests are invited to take a step back in time and explore dozens of the country’s most iconic buildings and sites in small scale. The country’s first Miniature Park opened on 2017 in Shekvetili, western Georgia. Here visitors can see 44 miniature replicas of iconic buildings and architectural monuments from all over Georgia that explore the country’s rich culture and history.

16 AJARA Life Magazine

At 1:25 scale, which is European standard for miniature parks, visitors will be able to tower over the displays and get a birds-eye view of sites that normally engulf them. Among the miniature displays are several iconic churches from different regions, historic stone pillars and towers and a comprehensive display of the country’s medieval city of Sighnagi. The Miniature Park also showcases a small-scale version of Narikala fortress in capital Tbilisi and many other historic monuments.

AT GEORGIA’S FIRST MINIATURE PARK?

The Miniature Park is located in Shekvetili, in the touristic-recreational zone near Tsitsinatela Amusement Park, about half an hour north of Batumi on the Black Sea coast. Ten million GEL (about $4.28 million/€3.84 million*) was invested in the new Miniature Park. All of this funding came via a private investment by Georgian tycoon and former Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili through the Cartu Charity Foundation.

A unique database that includes accurate drawings of prototypes of the miniatures featured at the park was also gifted to state by the Cartu Charity Foundation. The drawings were rendered in a way that was particularly valuable for the National Agency of Monument Protection. Other infrastructure inside the Miniature Park includes a Visitors Centre with a mini amphitheater, a cafe and more.

2. THE CULTURE OF GEORGIAN SUPRA AND TRADITION OF TAMADA The Georgian Supra (a traditional feast) has no equivalent around the world. The culture of toasting does exist in many cultures; however, the Georgian “Tamada” or toastmaster has no parallel. The role of the Tamada is to lead the Supra. The Tamada is considered to be the most honorable member of a traditional Georgian Supra. The ideal Tamada is well educated, has extensive knowledge of Georgia’s history and culture, is eloquent, is sociable, has a good sense of humor and has musical ability. The Tamada should be able to lead a series of toasts on a variety of topics. He should also be able to entertain guests with poems, songs and interesting stories. The Georgian Supra is a fundamental element of Georgian identity, which is why the tradition has been preserved to this very day. In total, there are approximately 300 different toasts, some of which are obligatory for each Supra, regardless of its duration.

All parts of Georgia are interesting, but Ajara is place with the sea, the mountains, interesting traditions and a lot of other reasons why you should visit this region.

THE GOLDEN FLEECE - MYTH OR REALITY? The civilised world became acquainted with the phenomenon of fleece as early as Sumerian and Hittite antiquity, from which we learn that the golden sand brought by mountain rivers was collected by Svan people (the people from the region in Georgia – Svaneti) with perforated wash bowls and fur skins. The myth of the Golden Fleece has accompanied human history since time immemorial. After all, the expedition of the Argonauts to Aia Colchis, together with the legend of the Trojan War, was the most popular in ancient Greece. It is no coincidence that after the discovery of the “legendary” Troy, one of the most skilled “decoders” of ancient legends, Heinrich Schliemann, came to Georgia, including the Batumi district. The names of golden rivers, descriptions of methods of extracting precious metals or treasures, hoards in churches, or pieces of gold found in groves on the banks of rivers are also frequently seen in Svanetian folk tales.

50 AJARA Life Magazine

The same themes are also popular in the village of Upper Machakhela. The research of Prof.- Amiran Kakhidze conducted in Ajara in 2014-2022 shows that old metallurgists, along with large-scale production of gold and other types of non-ferrous metals contained in alluvial sands washed out by mountain streams, were collected in small basins and unsystematically arranged fine mountainous channels (Figs. 1-3). Artefacts related to metallurgy can be seen in the courtyard of the Batumi Archaeological Museum. It is noteworthy that our Austrian colleagues recently concluded, with the help of laser beams from portable devices, as a result of the laboratory examination of the masterpieces of jewellery art found in Troy, Ur, and on the island of Lemnos, that the gold originated from rivers and probably came from the Caucasus.

WEDDING IN GEORGIA

WEDDING TRADITIONS Georgia is a bright hospitable country with beautiful mountain landscapes, the delicious variety of national dishes, ancient temples, and unique wedding traditions. Furthermore, the marriage registered in Georgia is valid throughout the world.

62 AJARA Life Magazine

The real Georgian wedding is a bright bustling colourful event during which many of old traditions are respected. Traditionally, a huge number of guests is invited to the Georgian wedding – their number may exceed several hundred. Of course, not all modern couples follow all the old national traditions of their ancestors. But most of the young still prefer traditional weddings. Before the ceremony, the couple must go through three stages: the courtship, engagement and wedding ceremony. Earlier in the old days, parents were involved in the choice of the bride or groom. Now the young choose their life partners, following their hearts. The only important point is that marriage must be approved by the parents of both sides. On the day of the wedding, the beautiful ceremony of entering to the grooms’ house is held. First, the groom goes up to the roof of the house and releases a white bird. Then he goes down to the bride, and they are treated to the glass of wine. The groom makes a sip and then puts the engagement ring to the glass of wine and passes it to the bride. In the end, the groom gets the ring, hands it to the bride and says beautiful words of love and fidelity. Almost all couples get married at church and register their marriage the same day. The feast is often held in a restaurant because the house can not fit such a huge number of guests. During the celebration, the tables burst from a variety of dishes and drinks. Tamada says beautiful toasts – the first in honour of the bride and groom. The guests present expensive presents or money for the newlyweds. In general, the Georgian wedding is a colourful fun-filled memorable spectacle. If you manage to take part in it, you will definitely have a good time. In recent years, many foreign couples prefer to celebrate their weddings in Georgia – to get married in beautiful churches, make great wedding pictures on the background of the Georgian nature and celebrate on Georgian traditions. KHULO CABLE CAR

ONE OF THE MAIN DESTINATIONS IS KHULO

One of the main destinations is Khulo – cozy and small town which has a beautiful location overlooking the river gorge. It’s 80km from Batumi. You will find some small hotels and restaurants in the town and the cable cars which will take you to the other slope of the river gorge, village Tago where you can sit and enjoy breathtaking views.

The cable car works from 9:00AM – 6:00PM When and from where the cable car moves during those hours depends on the number of people who want to use the cable car.

Within a three-hour drive from Batumi, in Ajarian mountains, a little village exists that will absolutely take your breath away from first sight. This tiny village connects to the outer world by the Khulo cable car, which is known to be the fastest way of transportation from Khulo to the village named Tago. This cable car is the second-longest free span cable car in Europe. This cable car is unique in its kind. The Khulo cable car was built in 1985 and has a length of 1.919 meters. The entire road, from Khulo to Tago, does not have a single intermediate pillar. With all this, the road passes at an altitude of 350 meters, over the gorge of the Adjaristskali River.

The adventure begins from the first moment you enter the cable car. It might be a bit frightful in the beginning, however, once you take a look at the huge mountains with their tops covered with clouds, you instantly slip into a vastly different world where there is no noise and only clean fresh air. While riding on a cable car, you can get an incredible adrenaline rush, and at the same time enjoy the breathtaking views that will open during this short but exciting journey.

BATUMI BOULEVARD Batumi Boulevard is one of the main attractions for the town’s visitors. The wide boulevard follows the seaside and is full of beach bars, café-lounges, restaurants, amusement rides for children and various colorful and dancing fountains. In addition to unique vegetation, you will find in Batumi Boulevard many interesting sculptures and architectural monuments. Batumi Boulevard has a history of over a century. Its construction began in 1881. Its creation was the idea of Batumi district governor Mekalov, who commissioned the coastal boulevard to be built to a famous Prussian gardener named Reseller. Later, the planned development of the boulevard was

handed over to a French gardener and designer invited to Georgia, Mikheil d’Alphonse, who is referred to in historical records as the “Kind Genie of Batumi Seaside”. The development of the boulevard also owes much to Gordeziani, who studied in France and was appointed the manager of the City Park Boulevard in 1917. The first colorful dancing fountains of the Boulevard have been functioning since 1977. In 2009, the length of the Boulevard was significantly increased and now reaches 7 kilometers. The so-called New Boulevard was designed by a Spanish architect and built in accordance with the latest standards.

THE ONE DRINK YOU NEED TO KNOW AND TRY, WHEN VISITING GEORGIA Chacha is a Georgian pomace brandy, a clear and strong (ranging between 40% alcohol for commercially produce to 65% for home brew), which is sometimes called “wine vodka”, “grape vodka”, or “Georgian vodka/grappa”. It is made of grape pomace (grape residue left after making wine). The term chacha is used in Georgia to refer to grape distillate. It may be also produced from unripe or wild grapes. Georgian chacha Nestled in the heart of the Caucasus region of Eurasia between the Black Sea and the Greater Caucasus Mountain Range, Georgia has a climate that is perfect for grape cultivation. One of the world’s oldest wine producing regions, grapes are thought to have first appeared in the country as far back nearly 8,000 years. Grape cultivation and wine making are therefore a significant part of Georgia’s history and culture, and continue to play a vital role in the country’s economy. It is not only a rich diversity in wine, however, that Georgia’s vineyards are famous for. Grape cultivation and wine production have also resulted in the development of “chacha” Georgia’s traditional national drink. Chacha is made from grape skins, or pomace, leftover

from wine production. The skins are a byproduct that most modern wineries toss out, but Georgia cherishes grape skins. The drink is everywhere in Georgia, from commercial versions in stores, to homemade chachas on dinner tables. Where to drink chacha in Batumi: Georgia has excellent wine shops, and there are many fancy restaurants to taste artisan chacha if you’re looking for something higher end. one of the best place to drinking best quality of chacha and learning how drinking, it’s “Chacha Time” (5 Giorgi Mazniashvili St, Batumi), one of the old and popular bar in old town of Batumi.
