This issue of The Social is a Fashion and Wellbeing special, exploring trends for AW19, as well as getting some tips on how to stay healthy and happy as the weather changes.

A/W TRENDS “Forals? For Autumn?

Groundbreaking!”

Buds might typically suggest spring dressing, but this autumn expect unapologetically full floral fashion. And when it comes to blooms, the bigger the better. The same goes for handbags; the days of the dainty clutch are long gone and this autumn is about bags that are big enough to fit in the kitchen sink, not to mention your usual make-up, phone and keys.

Tartan and checks made a comeback last year and they’re not going anywhere, and don’t be afraid to clash. Plus, channel your inner golfer because the diamond Argyll sweater was seen gracing catwalks again.

Waist-cinching belts are also in this season – wear them around chunky knits to add shape to your silhouette. And while trainers still hold a special place in our hearts (and more importantly on our feet), the less comfortable but infinitely more elegant pointy shoe is making a comeback. Invest in ‘party feet’ now at River Island on the High Street.

On the first Tuesday of each month 11am – 3pm the doors to the Victorian Steward’s Chemist Shop will be open for you to take a peek inside and hear the fascinating story of how it came from Worcester’s High Street. Free.

Academic books, fiction, poetry, cook books and kids' books: we have 100s of previously owned books looking for a new owner. Our annual Great Hive Book Rescue raises money for Oxfam- a wide range of titles at bargain prices.

LIVING RUINS 26 September The lure of the ruin has excited people for centuries, prompting us to visit and explore the leftovers of distant or recent civilisations.

This exhibition of contemporary art curated by Meadow Arts from the Arts Council England collection, alongside important and rarely seen artworks from the museum’s collections, explores our fascination with what has passed, but survives as a Living Ruin. Free.

Unleash the inner astronaut in you with FREE interactive activities and exhibitions. Question the experts on all aspect of the universe and Space.

Take an immersive 3D virtual reality planet walk. Observe static rocket firings, learn about weightlessness, what astronauts eat, how they go to the toilet and live in Space, try your skills with controlling robots. Experts from the University of Worcester will be exploring the challenges of using robots to explore planets such as Mars. Watch demonstrations and optical illusions from the University of Wolverhampton. Find out about Britain's Space program, check out the sky through a telescope

with Bromsgrove Astronomical Society and take a photo in our space rocket Selfie booth.

Check into The Studio for the exciting screening for the unique filming of "Space Queens". This free 25 minute film takes an in depth look at the women behind Apollo 11 and the next generation inspired by the historical monumental event, to pursue careers in aerospace. Book onto talks one of which is by David Hardy one of the world's distinguished space artists.

He was a regular illustrator on Patrick Moore’s Sky at Night Programme, and for Arthur C Clarke and other classic books. He has documented ALL of our spaceflight history as it happened.

If you are interested in pursuing a career in a subject related to Space, we will be conducting career tours.

IMMERSIVE DOME EXPERIENCE 40 minutes sessions at 10:30am, 11:30am, 12:30pm, 1:30pm and 2:30pm.

Experience and learn about the wonders of the night sky by booking onto a session in the 360 degree Immersive mobile planetarium.

THE COMMANDERY DRUMHEAD CEREMONY 03 September 6pm - 8pm The Commandery, The Battle of Worcester Society, and Worcester Militia commemorate the Battle of Worcester (3rd September 1651) in the Great Hall and on Fort Royal Hill. Free.

HERITAGE OPEN DAY – PEOPLE POWER 14 September 10am - 5pm Discover how the people of Worcester came out to defend their city from the Parliamentarian army of Gloucester.

Celebrate the 1643 Defending of the City, with talks given by The Commandery Interpretation Team and The Battle of Worcester Society, and visit our Living History Camp featuring Worcester Militia.

BATTLE OF WORCESTER SOCIETY TALK: THE STORY OF HENRY NORWOOD – ROYALIST DRAGOON DURING THE 1646 SIEGE OF WORCESTER 19 September 7pm Sharon Himes is author of Cavalier’s Adventure: The Story of Henry Norwood, and is the final speaker in the Battle of Worcester Society‘s 2019 Civil War Nights programme.

The talks take place in the historic Great Hall of The Commandery where seating is limited, so we would advise pre-booking for all talks.

TO BIND A WITCH! ACTIVITY SESSIONS 29 October - 1 November 11am – 12pm and 1pm – 2pm Find out about the witch craze of the 17th century! Make your own witch bottle and poppets to ward off witches and spirits. Discover what people did in the past to protect their homes from witches and imps by designing and drawing your own anti-witch mark!
