WITHOUT WORDS

The 80-minute film lacks dialogue and leads the viewer to discover emotions, feelings and sensations thanks to the physical movements and guttural sounds of the protagonist.

“I always wanted to make a film without dialogue, one that relied on the power of images and sound. I started writing this film in 2008 when I found an ant in a cab. From that event I started to think about someone who could take that ant home, take care of it and how that person’s relationship with that little being would be”, Salvini told AL DÍA from Los Angeles, where the film was recently screened.

Beyond the total absence of dialogue and the obsession for a balanced literary and technical script, Salvini’s work seeks to sow in the audience a reflection on the loneliness and invisibility of the most marginalized sectors of society.

“When I was writing that story, Lima was growing a lot and I saw that bonanza that was not directed for everyone, but only for a sector of the population. This story is based on how this city can grow in such a way that it totally turns off some people and turns others into ghosts or beings we don’t pay attention to”, he added.

SIN PALABRAS

La cinta de 80 minutos carece de diálogos y lleva al espectador a descubrir emociones, sentimientos y sensaciones gracias a los movimientos físicos y los sonidos guturales de la protagonista.

“Siempre quise hacer una película sin diálogos, que se basara en el poder de las imágenes y el sonido. Esta película empecé a escribirla en el 2008 cuando me encontré una hormiga en un taxi. A partir de ese evento empecé a pensar en alguien que pudiera llevarse esa hormiga a su casa, cuidarla y cómo sería la relación de esa persona con ese pequeño ser”, le contó Salvini a AL DÍA, desde Los Ángeles, donde se proyectó su largometraje recientemente.

Más allá de la ausencia total de diálogos y la obsesión por un equilibrado guion literario y técnico, la obra de Salvini busca sembrar en el público una reflexión sobre la soledad y la invisibilidad de los sectores más marginados de la sociedad.

“Cuando estaba escribiendo esa historia, Lima estaba creciendo mucho y vi esa bonanza que no estaba dirigida para todo el mundo, sino solo para un sector de la población. Esta historia se basa en cómo esta ciudad puede crecer de tal manera que a algunas personas las apaga totalmente y a otras las convierte en fantasmas o en seres a quienes no prestamos atención”, agregó.

THE CHOSEN ONE FROM PERU

El corazón de la luna, produced by the University of Lima, won Best Film at the SCI-FI London Film Festival 2021 and the Jury’s Special Mention at the International Independent and Auteur Film Festival of the Canary Islands in 2021.

On the other hand, her leading role earned Haydeé Cáceres the award for Best Ibero-American Actress at Fantaspoa (Film Festival Porto Alegre) 2022 and at the Sydney Science Fiction Film Festival 2021.

However, the greatest pride for the renowned actress was the choice of the film to represent Peru at the Oscars. “It is one more achievement in my career and above all for Peruvian cinema. LA ELEGIDA DE PERÚ

‘El corazón de la luna’, producida por la Universidad de Lima, se llevó el premio a Mejor Película en el SCI-FI London Film Festival 2021 y la Mención Especial del Jurado en el Festival Internacional de Cine Independiente y de Autor de Canarias en 2021.

Por otra parte, su rol protagónico le valió a Haydeé Cáceres el premio a Mejor Actriz Iberoamericana en Fantaspoa (Film Festival Porto Alegre) 2022 y en el Sydney Science Fiction Film Festival 2021.

Sin embargo, el mayor orgullo para la reconocida actriz fue la elección de la cinta para representar a Perú en los Óscar. “Es un logro más en mi carrera y por sobre todo para el cine peruano. Se están haciendo cosas lindas en Perú, así que lo maravilloso es que estas producciones y este trabajo están trascendiendo. Yo solo he puesto un granito de arena”, comentó.

Este 21 de diciembre se conocerá la lista de finalistas en la categoría Mejor Película Internacional de los Premios de la Academia, cuyas nominaciones se oficializarán el 24 de enero. z
