WELCOME TO THE

ATA 2017 ANNUAL CONVENTION You can only image how excited I am to welcome you here for the Alabama Trucking Association’s 79th Annual Convention and Meeting. Planning for this week has been a lengthy process, but one that I have enjoyed tremendously. I trust you’ll see the efforts our Convention Committee, Board Members, and staff have all invested to make this gathering a success. Please know that your attendance this week and continued support of your Association is very much appreciated.

Terry Kilpatrick, 2017 ATA Convention Chairman Most importantly, I want to acknowledge the incredible support of our many Convention sponsors. This year has topped all other meetings for sponsorship money raised. Our Convention Committee really brought its A-game to make sure the financial success of this meeting is secure. We are very grateful to each sponsor’s contribution. A list of these businesses is available at the centerspread of this booklet. As you look over that list, you will see familiar names and logos. Many, if not all, are regular supporters of this Association and its many endeavors. Each is a credit to our industry and a very important participant in Alabama’s strong economy. The next few days will be packed with informative meetings, exciting events, and many entertainment offerings. On top of that, you are here to network with the best business leaders our industry has to offer. Our meeting agenda focuses on the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for trucking. Together, we can find solutions that will benefit each of us, no matter what industry niche we fill or business sector we serve. We are all in this together; the success of the entire industry is for the good of us all – and that success starts this week, here in Destin. If you have questions, concerns or suggestions about this meeting, please find me or an ATA staffer and we will do everything within our grasp to assist you. In the meantime, the following pages provide the information you need to make the most of this meeting. We’re glad you’re here. Thanks for your support of your Alabama Trucking Association.

FRIDAY

BUSINESS SESSION + PRESENTATIONS + SPEAKERS FRIDAY, APRIL 21, 8:30-11 A.M. – COASTAL BALLROOM CLEBE MCCLARY Can a young Marine shattered by the weaponry of modern warfare, rebound and turn personal defeat into personal victory? Patrick Cleburne “Clebe” McClary was raised on a 10,000 acre plantation in the South Carolina Low Country. He grew up hunting, fishing and excelling at sports. After fulfilling his dream of becoming a college coach, Clebe had plans to marry a beautiful Southern belle. Life was very good. But only weeks before the wedding (March 26, 1967), Clebe witnessed a startling event on a college campus that changed the course of his life forever – the burning of an American flag by students protesting the Vietnam conflict. Dismayed by the lack of support for the country he loved, Clebe resigned from his coaching position and volunteered for duty in the Marine Corps. Completing Officers Training School in Quantico, Va., First Lt. McClary said goodbye to his bride and became platoon leader of the 1st Recon Battalion in Vietnam. On his 19th recon patrol, deep in hostile territory, Clebe and his unit engaged in handto-hand combat with the enemy. Suffering devastating injuries, which included the loss of his left arm and left eye, Clebe continued to lead his men. His valiant battle with the pain and disabilities that followed is nothing short of amazing. He spent more than two years in military hospitals, undergoing 30 major surgeries and countless hours of physical therapy. Since then, Clebe has used his powerful story of courage, determination and strength to motivate audiences the world over. His presentation recounts the courageous story of how he rebuilt his devastated life through an unyielding faith, a never-quit spirit and belief that his life has purpose. Today, Clebe is in the service of the Lord’s Army. His life shows that he genuinely embodies the vow he took when entering the Marines: Any mission assigned will be accomplished in a superior manner, no matter what the obstacles. Clebe is what he likes to call a complete Marine. To him, USMC will always mean a U. S. Marine for Christ. We all have our burdens. Each of us carries a weight that causes us to question all we know. Whatever trials or hardships you may be facing in your life, be it personal or professional, you will benefit from hearing Clebe’s message of strength and faith.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER FRIDAY, APRIL 21, 8:30-11 A.M. – COASTAL BALLROOM Keynote speakers for the meeting are business leadership and motivational gurus Lt. Clebe McClary, USMC (Ret.) and John Foley, former Lead Solo Pilot with U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels.

JOHN FOLEY John Foley is among the countries most in-demand speakers. He has spoken to some of the highest performing organizations in the world such as Microsoft, Hitachi, Intel, Cisco, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Goodyear, Chevron, Lowe’s, Marriott, Wyndham Hotels, Hilton, Penske Racing, Rawlings, LA Kings, Sprint, Motorola, Merrill Lynch, Mass Mutual, Capital Group, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, GE Capital, American Hospital Association, Merck, Reach Air, Adecco, Gillette, McDonalds, and Million Dollar Round Table. He is a former lead solo pilot of the Blue Angels, a Sloan Fellow at Stanford School of Business, a gratitude guru, and an expert in the inner workings of high performance teams. His exciting, rare journey inspires awe, triggering audiences to take action and rethink what they believe is possible. John employs those intense realities as a metaphor to motivate teams and individuals to reach for their highest potential while empowering organizations to sustain excellence under dynamic change. John’s presentations are marked by three overriding traits… • A contagious attitude of thankfulness that he calls “Glad To Be Here,” • An energizing delivery that inspires high performance with a purpose larger than self; and • A practical model for living out his message that works in other organizations as well as within the Blue Angels. John consistently performed in an extreme, high-stakes environment, flying at speeds of more than 500 miles per hour and in formations as close as 18 in. apart. To survive in those circumstances, he relied on a culture of high trust and leadership that turns inherently unforgiving flight into extraordinary experiences. He employs those intense realities as a metaphor to motivate teams to reach for their highest potential and empower organizations to sustain excellence under dynamic change. John’s post-Naval experiences as an entrepreneur and a Sloan Fellow at the Stanford Graduate School of Business put him in a unique position to reverse- engineer the culture of excellence and teamwork found in the Blue Angels. He has created a framework and a mythology that inspires greatness while propelling others on their own journey toward higher performance.

CHAIRMAN’S RECEPTION + DINNER

ATA CHAIRMAN GARY BOND Capping this year’s Convention is a reception and dinner honoring current ATA Chairman of the Board Gary Bond of National Bank of Commerce in Birmingham, Ala. Chairman Bond is a hands-on leader who isn’t afraid to work hard for what he believes. A lifelong industry stakeholder, he knows the trucking as well as anyone. He sees the big picture, but also knows the fine details needed to keep our industry successful. At the start of his term, he vowed to improve the Association’s overall standing as Alabama’s preeminent voice for the trucking industry. His agenda included initiatives to bolster member services, increase existing membership involvement with ATA events and special projects especially among trucking firms; and fortify and improve the industry’s public image for economic development, and industry safety and professionalism. He did that, and our Association is better because of his leadership. Also, we will recognize this year’s Alabama Truck Driver of the Year, longtime Buddy Moore Trucking employee Larry Parker and his wife Dorothy. Mr. Parker was recently selected by the ATA Safety and Maintenance Management Council as the state’s top driver for his commitment to industry safety and professionalism in a career that has spanned four decades and 4.6 million safe miles. Another highlight of this event is the announcement of the 2017 H. Chester Webb Award, which is this Association’s highest honor for a member. Last year’s recipient Tom McLeod of McLeod Software will announce the winner. After the program, we get a front row seat for The Unexpected Boys and Jones and Company.

Dress is semi-formal (A dinner jacket or suit, cocktail dress for ladies).

THE UNEXPECTED BOYS

AND JONES AND COMPANY BAND THE UNEXPECTED BOYS In 2007, The Unexpected Boys opened their first show for Diana Ross in Upper Saddle River, NJ. A decade and seven continents later…yes even Antarctica… The Unexpected Boys have amazed audiences all over the world amassing over 2,500 performances. They have headlined at Yankee Stadium, The Pentagon, Formula One Singapore, Heinz Field, The Atlantis Hotel and Resort in Dubai, and theatres all over the U.S. They have opened for Diana Ross, Dionne Warwick, Deborah Cox, and Chubby Checker, President George W. Bush, and were also featured on the season finale of The Housewives of New York on The Bravo Network.

This act is a musical tribute to Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons/Jersey Boys, featuring such unforgettable hits as Sherry, Walk Like a Man, Oh, What a Night, Big Girls Don’t Cry, and many more! But they have also added a myriad of other styles to their repertoire including The Beach Boys, Broadway, and a wide array of Opera classics! It’s like a Broadway or Vegas style show right here at ATA’s Convention. Michael Cerbelli was quoted as saying “As an entertainment producer, if they amaze me in five minutes, then I know the crowd will never forget them…I still get accolades from everyone I run into that know them! Accept no imitation…this is the best tribute act that I have ever seen!” You do not want to miss this act. Come see why audiences from around the world have raved about these guys for years and stick around after the show for a special ATA Convention After Party and show with dancing and live music from Jones and Company Band.
