Cinta Ardit, Volunteering Lead at Glovo, manages the internal volunteering programme, providing opportunities for employees based in more than 20 countries to come together and take positive action in their local communities. This is done with the help of volunteering ambassadors who work on the ground with the support of the Alaya platform to ensure the success of their social impact programme in each region.
“We decided to organise the first field volunteering activity at Glovo to offer an opportunity for our colleagues to do good beyond the walls of Glovo, while connecting with other teammates and gathering in small groups to share experiences. Benevity helped a lot by connecting us with non-profits and getting specific information and details on the volunteering activities that were necessary for us to then plan the whole Global Volunteering Week.”

One of their top priorities when developing a volunteer programme is to connect all initiatives back to their core business values. As equality of access to essential goods for everyone is one of the main pillars of their commitment to serve the community, they set out to build a volunteer programme that would engage employees in providing resources to those in need within the communities where they are located.

context
Their main challenges were to: rganise a global event that would simultaneously take place across 9 different Connectlocations.with nonprofits related to ther core business within their desired regions without being on the ground in each Boostarea.employee participation in each location of the programme despite a remote working environment.
To serve their corporate mission of providing access to essential goods to everyone, they proposed a Global Volunteer Week centred around lending support to local food banks. This would give employees the opportunity to contribute their time to a meaningful cause that is close to the company’s core business.
With the uncertainty of the Covid situation affecting their ability to meet in-person as one global company, Glovo wanted to coordinate a volunteer initiative that would inspire employees to connect with regional teammates, while taking positive action together within their local communities.
The challenge
An engaging in-person experience Tailored support that drives corporate purpose across the globe With the help of Benevity’s database of international nonprofits, Glovo was able to connect with food banks in their desired regions, retrieving the necessary details on each volunteering activity that were crucial for executing their Global Volunteering Week.

The solution
Despite the challenges of reaching regional teams during Covid, this program enabled employees to experience the impact of their efforts first-hand, while connecting them physically with local team members. This customised programme meant that the team was able to measure their real impact and engage employees with their corporate mission of providing access to essential goods to everyone. In fact, it was so engaging that Glovo ended up extending the programme from one week to two weeks due to a high number of sign-ups in some locations like Barcelona.
