Holiday Market

By Courtney Curenton Baker

The Junior League of Montgomery could not have been more thrilled to welcome shoppers to the 33rd Annual Holiday Market on October 6-9 2021! To many River Region natives, Holiday Market indicates the beginning of the holiday season and all of the warmth and joy that comes along with it.

Like so many things, this year looked a little different - but it was certainly no less merry or bright! With over 70 merchants providing both new, exciting items as well as triedand-true favorites, the 33rd Annual Holiday Market is one that will be remembered for years to come as a joyous return to in-person shopping. Our market has become one of the most popular events in the area and draws thousands of shoppers annually. As a result, merchants come back year after year and our roster fills up quickly. In fact, many spots are officially reserved for the following year before Holiday Market even concludes!

Holiday Market planning begins many months in advance, but that does not make transforming a 70,000 square foot empty room into a holiday shopper’s dream an easy task! Holiday Market relies on Junior League of Montgomery members and community volunteers to pull off its shopping event, with set-up beginning on Monday morning and wrapping up in time to welcome those attending our Preview Party on Wednesday evening. Amongst the time spent setting up, particularly notable is the time generously donated by Jerry

Thrash of Rosemont Gardens to transform our Holiday Market lobby and 22-foot Christmas tree into the absolute vision of holiday spirit. This year the tree featured all of the colors of the season and was completed by dazzling reindeer leaping out almost as if to say “Santa’s coming!”- which, he actually was!

Shoppers of Preview Party, Holiday Market’s early shopping showcase and sponsor appreciation event, had the chance to mingle with Santa whilst earning their spot on the ‘nice’ list by supporting the Junior League of Montgomery. Preview Party night is a fun opportunity for our League Sponsors and other attendees to have the first opportunity to browse the wares our merchants have on display and take home unique gifts for themselves and loved ones. This year’s preview night also featured exclusive Silent Auction items only accessible to attendees! A huge thanks to the hard work of the Silent Auction Committee, as well as the generosity of the bidders in attendance.

Children and parents were able to have breakfast with Santa followed by photos with Santa and ended with decorating festive cookies. Santa was available to all children that attended the Market for a head start on those Christmas requests and photos. From fudge to home decor and clothes to fine jewelry, the 33rd Annual Holiday Market had something for everyone!

The 2021 Holiday Market Steering Committee sincerely thanks all who shopped, donated, helped, and otherwise supported this amazing fundraiser. The most important thing to remember is that, while Holiday Market is an event full of fun and cheer, it is also one of the many ways the Junior League of Montgomery raises funds to continue its mission of partnering with community organizations and supporting efforts to make Montgomery a wonderful place to live.
