REGENERATION
Sp eCH I U ME 201 5 rformingartsfestival WWW.SCHIUME.ORG WWW.FACEBOOK.COM/SCHIUMEFESTIVAL
Let there be more light ...said a song by the british band Pink Floyd. We at Schiume like to say let there be more life. That’s why this year’s theme is regeneration: let’s try and find a new use all the stuff we throw away, let’s talk about recycling in a broad sense and start doing something useful, even though the performing arts are quite ephemeral. Let’s regenerate. Regeneration intended, therefore, as a chance to imagine the new starting from what already exists, and is perhaps already in the past, if not lost. Regeneration as a way to assign a new value to something that already had its own power and meaning, as a consistency between things and the way they’re used, as responsible possession as well as disposal.

Propedeutica per una sensibilitĂ ecologista Federica Glauso, Francesco Nordio
The project questions how art can be used to trigger today’s most urgent and essential practice: the awareness raising of environmental issues. In Propedeutica per una sensibilità ecologista this happens through a set of different exercises of which some invite the audience to gather information and look at things in a more critical way, while others are more of aesthetical or mystical experiences. Idea > Federica Glauso e Francesco Nordio

Display Davide Calvaresi, 7/8 chili
The project is part of an on-going research on the interaction between video and movement. Display is about today’s inadequacy and isolation, about watching and describing the world from behind a window – where the window is all the screens we look at every day, which form the limit that deforms vision. From an inside to an outside, from a frame enclosing an image to an image that discloses.

Sphaera Ailuros
Whether conscious or unconscious, a choice lies behind every human action. The audience’s choice and action become active creation. Starting from the eternal enigma on the cause behind star and planet formation, life and death, the audience embarks on a journey that spans from the rebirth of an individual to the creation of a collective ego. The body as biological precondition of the rational questioning that results from birth.

(numero progressivo?) Concerto per piantine Alessandro Ragazzo, Giacomo Artusi
Concerto per piantine is an audio-visual performance based on the encounter between the digital world and the plant world. While there are people who talk to plants in order to see them grow better, Alessandro Ragazzo and Giacomo Artusi instead organise for them a show with sounds and images. A sound journey performed live, with a video live-set projected among the plants as a chance to look for casual correspondences between sounds, visual rhythm and vegetal world, as well as unexpected synergies and digital interchange. A performance where plants, other than being the preferential audience, are the set itself.

Comics are easy Alex Widdowson (Chin up collective)
Participants in the workshop will be introduced to some of the fundamental principals of narrative artwork. They will learn how to craft their own comic strips and then contribute to the creation of a life-size collaborative-comic based on the theme of the festival: regeneration. This large comic will then be installed on the festival site for the remainder of the weekend. Alex Widdowson is a comic artist, animator and graphic designer based in London. Along with his colleagues from the Chin-Up Collective, Alex will be running workshops and creating installations throughout the festival.

Sun Ra, “Cosmic Equation, Collected Poetry and Prose, 1965: Then another tomorrow /
They never told me of / Came with the abruptness of a fiery dawn / And spoke of Cosmic Equations: / The equations of sight-similarity / The equations of sound-similarity / Subtle Living Equations / Clear only to those / Who wish to be attuned / To the vibrations of the Outer Cosmic Worlds. / Subtle living equations / of the outer-realms / Dear only to those / Who fervently wish the greater life

Nobody knows where my Johnny has gone Jonathan Rogerson
Nobody Knows Where My Johnny Has Gone is a magnification of a moment of popsong despair. An act of digging into sentimentality, taking the form of a choir of one. Resulting from an observation of the striking recurrence of the name Johnny in popular music, the performance asks: who is Johnny, and what does he reflect about our anxieties and desires? Devised and performed by Jonathan Rogerson, with the support of Rich Mix, London

The Telescope Tim Spooner
The telescope underwent a traumatic relocation and its lenses and mirrors became hopelessly rearranged. It was impossible to tell anymore whether the view through the telescope was of the surface of a distant planet or a microscopic reflection of the interior of the viewer’s own eye. Nevertheless this new world was studied and documented thoroughly.

Holometabolism Sam Evans (Chin Up collective)
Hidden throughout the festival are a series of drawings that illustrate the hugely transformative incubation periods of a wide variety of insects. Your job is to find them all and attempt to match the adults to their larval counterparts. A prize will be provided for the most successful participant. Sam Evans is a London based artist that spends his time creating playful and informative drawings and installations.

Transcience Justyna Janiszewska
Transcience is a solo where the body is the object and the medium to explore the shifts of mood and feelings throughout life’s incessant regeneration and continuous adaptation. This work is my ongoing scrutiny of the border line between extreme emotional states, their embodiments and the transformational phases involved.

Selfie DOYOUDaDA
“selfie: A photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically one taken with a smartphone or webcam and shared via social media - Oxford Dictionary
To look at, study, watch, reflect, listen to, smell, touch oneself. SELFIE is everything that concerns us, multiplied indefinitely. SELFIE is the world enclosed in a tunnel full of mirrors. SELFIE is me writing, you reading, her dancing, we listening, them looking. SELFIE is a research: If we knew what it was we were doing, it would not be called research (A. Einstein).

Blu Neu Beatrice Jarvis
A delicate meeting of mind, body and land in the co-creation of a ritual performance which seeks to explore the notion of capturing a state of being. Archive, experiment, create, return, bury, form, reflect, record, document. The body collects landscape, gathering, forming, collecting, sharing, revealing, fragmenting, traces and lines of terrain shadowing the body. This immersive performance installation explores the position of the body as archive to the affects of language and question how can the body can become mirror to its surroundings, asking through embodied practice, photography, film and installation, how does the body become a living archive to the experience of being.
