Amos Kimani Degree: MSc International Development : Public Policy and Management Profession: Public Affairs and Policy Assistant at The Challenge Network (Leading Social Integration charity in the UK) I am an aspiring policy and political consultant which is a goal that was borne out of my experiences both in the UK and abroad that have seen me facilitate a local youth conference in my hometown prior to starting university, to leading a team of 11 volunteers through a capacity building project for a rural community in India. In between these experiences, I built up my client management skills in the health, education and banking sector which have been instrumental in strengthening my interpersonal skills that enabled me to capitalise on various opportunities. One such example was participating in the British Council Active Citizens exchange programme, where I travelled to Bangladesh and I got to expand my knowledge of social action projects. This opportunity enabled me to network and interact with 30 other delegates from seven different countries, and it culminated in me being chosen to deliver a keynote speech on behalf of our cohort to both local government representatives and the British Ambassador to Bangladesh. Whilst at university, the opportunity to work on a widening participation programme for young people from BME backgrounds in Bristol that enabled them to realise the

Aleto Foundation Charity Ball 20th June 2018 Members in Attendance potential that university education can offer, was an experience that reaffirmed my belief in the value of capacity building. However, I have also come to appreciate that the impact of such efforts are limited if they fail to acknowledge the rules of the game which in this case is where policy comes into play. Hence, I am now focused on exploring opportunities within the education sector that have the potential for high impact whilst also capitalising on policy opportunities.
