You will create pre-visuals to show what your game will look like as well as a detailed document that explains all aspects of your game and what the player actually does. You will then go on to create a portion of your game, creating the component assets to be placed in a games engine. Using available equipment and software, you will explore the professional skills and techniques required to create an animation. You will manage the production from developing ideas, creating characters, backgrounds and sound tracks to creating the final animation(s). THE ASSIGNMENT & SCENARIO Taking on the role of a game designer/animator for Sleepy Brain Studios you are required create assets for your games idea as detailed within your game design document (GDD) and other development work. You will create concept art and 2D graphics in a software package such as Adobe Photoshop or MS Paint for all playable and non-playable characters, back ground environment. Including any other required assets, and sounds to a game ready state. You will produce animations for all playable and non playable characters including items where planned for. 2D Game Assets & Animation Creation Unit 7 Digital Games Production Learning aim B: Develop the required assets for a digital game As a game designer you are to produce a comprehensive set of imaginative assets clearly linked to your chosen game scenario of Pacman, Break-Out or Space Invaders. Your ideas must clearly fit your theme. B.1 - Concept art for 2D or 3D games (1B.3 2B.P3 2B.M3 2B.D3) The preproduction process requires you the artist to create a range of concept art variations for your planned assets in the game such as characters, objects, weapons and environment concepts for your chosen game idea. - Collate all previous concept art (from any past assignment related to your game) - Refine final concept art ready for production - Explanation of your chosen art style - Explanation of how your concepts meet your game purpose B.2 - Designing a 2D or 3D game (1B.3 2B.P3 2B.M3 2B.D3) Refine and complete a finalised version of your game design document (GDD) The games design document is an organic, evolving and growing document that gives everyone working on the development of the game the knowledge of what that game is about. It MUST include: Update GDD: - Information about the avatar used by the player, e.g. Character, vehicle etc. - What the game is about (story or context) - Maps of the levels: objectives, pick-ups, navigation & encounters - Details of the game play (what the player actually does) - Present and layout a game design document to industry standards - Organise folders and files appropriately
