PROLOGUE This unit provides opportunities for you to develop skills in decision making, problem solving and communication, integrated with the skills and knowledge developed in many of the other units within the programme to complete a realistic project. THE ASSIGNMENT You are a member of an indie games company tasked with the creation of a fully working game demo aimed to be released on Steam Greenlight. “Primate Planet” is in its second year of production and your group is tasked in leading this second year of its development. This is a group project and each member of the team must be clear about their responsibilities from the start of the project and group supervisors must ensure that everyone is accountable for each aspect of the game build their contribution to the end result. Each team member will contribute to the planning, implementation and evaluation of the project with all team members presenting the outcomes to the client - Liam Bowmer. This project brief give you the learners the opportunity to work with other student departments to aid in the production of “Primate Planet”.

Project Design & Implementation Task 1 Learning Outcome 1: 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4 & M1 You are to formulate a project and record in detail the project specifications. You will agree within the group a specification for the agreed project scenario (game) and produce an appropriate in depth plan for the full duration of the project from October to the presentation in May. Evidence for Assessment: - Records of possible game specifications/alterations and updates - Final agreed project specification (GDD & Meeting Records, discussions) - Identification of required assets for the game (characters, game level, mechanics) - Production Plan & Milestones (prep, modelling level building, mechanics and testing) In order to achieve M1 you are required to research, develop and compare a range of different potential game specifications. For example this could be three game play modes, three environments and so on. Your personal plans and GDD contribution should be well detailed and documented to professional expectations, peer reviews/discussions should also be documented. All design decisions should be fully justified and references should be added into your bibliography. Project Design & Implementation Task 2 Learning Outcome 2: 2.1, 2.2, 2.3 & M2, D2 Implementation of the project within the agreed specification. You will evidence where you have matched resources efficiently to the project. You will undertake the proposed project in accordance with the agreed specification organising, analysing and interpreting relevant outcomes. Evidence for Assessment: - Evidence where you have matched your resources to the project (Models, Unreal Engine 4, digital art, mechanics, sounds etc) - Undertake the proposed project to the agreed specification - Game Build - Organise your project work and analyse project outcomes against the agreed specification In order to achieve M2 you should justify how your contribution fits within the agreed specification. You will have discussed in depth a range of production procedures and techniques. You will discuss how you overcame potential problems. References should be added into your bibliography. To achieve D2 you will take responsibility for managing & organising activities and for developing all agreed aspects of your playable game level/build. Project Design & Implementation Task 3 Learning Outcome 3: 3.1, 3.2, 3.3 & D3 You will evaluate the project outcomes and will use appropriate project evaluation techniques to interpret and analyse the results in terms of the original project specification. You will make recommendations and justify areas for further consideration and improvement. Evidence for Assessment: - You will evaluate the project outcomes you will analyse and interpret the project results against the agreed specification. - Evaluate your overall performance throughout the duration of the project - Make recommendations and justify areas for further improvement In order to achieve D3 you must critically evaluate your work and draw conclusions. Project Design & Implementation Task 4 Learning Outcome 4: 4.1, 4.2, M3 & D1 Present ideas for a computer game with clarity and confidence in an appropriate format to intended audience. Evidence for Assessment: - You will produce a record of all project procedures used within the project - Present work in an agreed format to the intended audience explaining procedures and techniques used, production work created, highlight problems faced and comment on potential improvements. Note: All presentations will be videoed for assessment purposes In order for you to achieve M3 your research documents, GDD production work/logs should be neatly presented in an appropriate format. You should use appropriate technical language in your work. If you choose to use a Power Point/Prezi presentation you should provide the audience with appropriate handouts. You should have a question and answer session at the end of your presentation to answer any questions. When commenting on others work in a public domain you should be respectful and critique others’ work in a positive fashion. In order to achieve D1 you must critically evaluate your work and draw conclusions within your presentation/evaluation.
