City In Flux

City in flux was a project that was started in the first term, We

all had to take a different approach in which Artists influenced are work and what are final out comes would be. For me my idea for a final peice would be a sort of small magazine for toursits, providing intersting places to eat and a train map for the Wirral. This idea which I will be showing later in the magazine was first dreamt up after a visit to Liverpool in which I collected many nice structual shots. I wanted to incorporate my photography into my work. Thats where I started to look at visit Liverpool and other sites which used citys for tourism. I wanted to make a magazine for visit Liverpool which would be handy for tourists.

Arnaud Mercier

Arnaud Mercier was born May 10 1972, He was a French Graphic

Designer and web developer. He was best known for his interactive design systems. He was the founder of a design studio called Elixir studio and co-founder of the site known as Area 17. His work is very interesting in the way it is created as it is a very simple design. It uses pictures that he has shot from across the globe and edits them to improve the lighting and the overall quality. The colour and lighting he uses is absolutely fantastic. In one piece of his work which I will show below. He uses an escalator but the way its coloured is fantastic. It uses very rich deep, dark colours to emphasize the heavy metallic feel in which the elevator has.

Final Peice

So these next 4 pages will show my final peice for City In Flux

project. My aim for this project was to design a booklet that could give tourists a insight into what Liverpool is, Utilisng my own photography I was able to create a small booklet that could be used in gift shops and are able to be carried around without any nonsense. I wanted to focus on only a few parts which make up Liverpool including Liverpool one. In the pictures I used I wanted to have a contrast and of old buildings and new. A example of this is the white star building in my front cover which is surrounded by these brand new modern buildings. This is to show how the city has evolved and how it is constanltly changing.

Continued These two show another small amount of liverpool that any tourist would like to go to. The booklet is meant to be more astehitcally pleasing then actually helpful. More of a souvenire for tourists to take home. I wanted to find photos that people would enjoy and that would bring attention to the pages. I think I was able to get this with my footage of liverpool one aswell and the older part including the dock.

Earth Artifact

“TO GO WHERE KNOW MAN HAS GONE BEFORE” Neil Armstrong

Earth Artifact was are second project for this year, This one

focussed on what would we send into space for life forms to pick up that describes the human race. Aswell as City In flux the range for this project was very wide ad we were free to show this as we wanted. For me I look at many different Idea’s including a seed bank and a expessionist poster. I looked at artists such as Bas Jan Ader and Vincent Van Gogh to get a feel for what made humanity.

Anthony Burril

Burril

developed a poster called Oil and Water do not mix, which I feel is quite, I chose to work on this because of its closeness to info- Graphics. For this he mixed oil and water together as the ink and showed how when they are mixed they create a horried brown colour, This was to show the impact that oil spillages have on the enviroment. I feel that this peice has a very strong clear message that I will will be wanted to get across In my final peice.

Final peice

For my final peice I looked at what I could do to represent earth in such a way that aliens could understand. I thought the best way to bring the point across would be with words or pictures. I looked at artists who would use the same idea, I designed a poster using my own photography which shows what I think are the key things that make up humanity incluidng animals and music. So if this was sent into space hopefuly aliens would have a clear idea of what humanity is.

Modernism

Modernism is a break through in new art. Before Modernism there was very little in the way of innovation. It started in the 19th century in the Edwardian era and a had a huge impact on the entire industry. Arising in a bit of a rebellion, Modernism set out to teach the world about a different view to art, politics etc. This rebellious attitude that flourished between the 1900’s and the 1930’s, Started with the rejection from Europe, as people thought the whole idea was to radical. Artists such as Wim Crouwl looked at the first new type face called Helvetica which was the first new type font for modernism.

Post- Modernism

Post Modern art movements were intented to pick up from were Modernism left off, In some repects however other sources have said that Post Modern art was developed around the idea of contradicting Modernist art. To sum up Andy Warhol, He said “ Anyone can be famous for 15 minutes this sums up the post Modernist world, we accept that life and art have a no longer intrinsic meaning so lets play around with it and experiment. I think the reason Post Modern art was so popular was because of the growth of consumerism and instant gratification, People wanted novetly and excitement. For example installation and video helped people to see art in a more pro- active way.

Type Transcription

So this is my final Type transcription, It is based off Cubism and I wanted to make it look as random as possible. My first inspriation was inspired by some of the work Pablo Picasso made and I enjoyed and liked how random and Jagged it is. I started the type by laying squares on top of each other as a tumbling skyscraper. Every type was meant to be different sizes to show how random cubism was in some respects
