CONCEPT

Every work of mine has my fragments. A work of design starts from a single seed inside my mind. It can start from experience, memory, taste, interests, or sometimes, it begins with a small curiosity. During the process, the idea evolves and moves in between myself and the world, finally becoming concrete—visuals, graphics, signs, and systems. When these finally appear in the real world with a voice, they affect people and make them take action on what they’ve seen—or feel. All this process is fascinating, though it always starts from a simple fragment.

An annual report— for IKEA investors OBJECTIVE

Redesign a chosen brand’s CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) Report.

CSR reports often have low legibility in layout design. This report has been redesigned to deliver the complex contents in a clear display by using organizational text and appropriate photographs working with graphs, charts, tables, and infographics.

DESIGN

Organized modern vibe. Right now, IKEA is using a customized typeface similar to Futura, but I have chosen Neue Haas Unica Pro to deliver a simpler and more organized mood. The key colors, blue and yellow, come from the original brand’s color palette. I try not to overuse the key colors because of their vividness. I use a two-column-grid layout to achieve clear legibility and apply simple line-based icons to boost a modern vibe.

An app— for minimalist fashion lovers OBJECTIVE

Wardrobe is a personal iOS project that I made to

experiment with user interactions and visual animation effects. The app offers a clear f low for the entire purchase process for modern customers who are busy but want to keep their chic aesthetic. As an individual who has an interest in fashion and clothing, I always wanted to work on something that would offer a simple but stylish clothing purchase experience.

DESIGN

Inspired by minimalism. Wardrobe has a clothing retailer concept offering a certain style of clothes carefully curated. The application starts with the mood image, showing a major portion of the aesthetics. The main focus of the application is to keep the mood of urban chic and link it with simplicity. To achieve the goal, I mainly focused on making a clear and recognizable UI movement. If the application delivers a mood to people visually and interactively, it makes them spend more time on it.

money and live within a budget, but not make them feel guilty. Positive, energetic, and reliable are important keywords for the brand.

DESIGN

Your budget matters! To achieve friendly and comforting aesthetic in the overall design, a warm yellow and green palette and handdrawn illustrations are used in the system. I designed an event, a mobile phone application, and a financial organizer in one system. The soft colors paired with easy graphic elements make the idea of finances more positive and appealing to users beginning a budgeting habit.

I chose the word ‘structure’ for the project because I like

the fundamental and systematic narrative of the word. I researched design studios focusing on minimalistic and architectural works, and designed a book introducing them to a modern audience.

DESIGN

The contents introduce studios all over the world and their works related to the subject. The word structure has a hard and solid aesthetic, but in some points it also expresses tranquility. I picked a pale peach color to emphasize the contrast between strength and softness. The layout is based on a grid but has some f lexibility for a mellow vibe. One sans serif typeface and one serif typeface are paired to lend a tidy and elegant mood.

A poster series— for the type-addicted OBJECTIVE

Create a series of three type posters for Helvetica, Garamond, and Baskerville.

CONCEP T T YPOGR APHY POSTER DESIG N

The three typefaces are each chosen from a different category in the Vox classification system. In this series of posters, the typeface and its background information are displayed in a bold and contemporary context to appeal to audiences, especially graphic designers who are interested in the beauty of typefaces.

DESIGN

Aesthetic information. The posters work together as a set, but each one presents only one typeface in the design. Through the project, I learned how to use negative space in the composition and convey hierarchy by using different scales of type size. I chose a vivid color palette to present a crisp and energetic vibe. Tilted cut-out spaces paired with large size type also deliver a dynamic and joyful mood.

A pangram card set— for graphic designers looking for fun OBJECTIVE

Design a pangram card set based on Vox classification.

CONCEP T T YPOGR APHY L AYOUT DESIG N

A pangram has the purpose of showing every letter of a given alphabet at least once in a simple sentence. This card set helps to compare various typefaces easily and can give a glimpse of ideas about aesthetically suitable font choices for the projects. The soft mood of the card set may attract graphic designers looking for a typeface and anyone interested in typography.

DESIGN

Typography forever. Eleven fonts were chosen from each different category of Vox Type Classification. The idea for the color palette comes from a retro vibe. With these desaturated colors, I can describe a timeless aesthetic with eleven typefaces having different characteristics. This card set will give a joyful experience when working on typesetting.
