OVERVIEW

NEW MISSION

10

Our mission is to encourage people to build a special connection with others by sharing life moments instantly.

NEW OBJECTIVE

11 The new Polaroid will become more than a method for taking instant photography. It will expand its ways of capturing and sharing moments through various products and services. For example, the new Polaroid will collaborate with a wide range of events, individuals, and brands so that people can experience life, new values, cultures in a fresh and exciting way and build special connections together. Through the new Polaroid platform, anyone can capture and share their authentic moments immediately.

DESIGN CONCEPT

14 To set proper visual concepts for the brand, digging into the core of Polaroid was necessary. By understanding the vision and value of the brand, it was able to figure out a fair design solution. Came up with three keywords were a starting point of the design exploration.

At the initial sketch round, three design directions connected to each keyword were set; Instant-In a snap, Share-More joy together, Memory-Memories matter. Star and rainbow were used as a graphic symbol for the first drafts of the sketches. These symbols especially emphasize the concepts of instant and memory.

possibilities. After some experimental points, a wide range of concepts was narrowed down to specific styles and ideas that have potential. The peer feedback and exchanged opinions for the sketches were helpful to set a design direction carefully. Based on this, computer comps were created. It was refined several times to get the best mood and tone matching with the future brand’s aesthetic.

16 Phase 01. Warm-up sketches

At the beginning phase, I tried to explore various ideas as much as possible. The initial goal of the warm-up sketch was to emphasize the soul of the brand in many ways. I focused on a few symbols such as rainbow, stars, prism, stacks, and ‘P’ from Polaroid.

18 Phase 02. Development

Based on peer critic, some of the symbols were removed from the exploration list. It narrowed down to two items: star for ‘instant’ and ‘fun’, letter P for ‘Polaroid’. I want to design a new logo that delivers the brand’s future potential.

FINAL LOGO

30 Phase 4. Final logo

The main logo has two parts: the symbol and the logotype. The symbol represents an instant sharing and bond together. These are the core traits of the brand. The star shape conveys the idea of an instant: what is happening right at the moment. The letter P stands for Polaroid, and it was customized and designed to work as a separated symbol that represents the connection among people. The logotype was developed by customizing the typeface similar to the symbol P. The brand uses four different colors for the logo, to represent the identity of each product and services. As a result, the final design of the new Polaroid logo implies the brand’s mission and characters: Building special connections by instant memory sharing. The overall shape of the logo catches the mood of the futre Polaroid well.
