Sadr Sahib said that the theme given by Huzooraa for the Ijtema was “The Power of Durood Sharif”, which was adhered to. He said that it was a great blessing of Allah that the Ijtema was held this year. Measures to ensure Covid-safety as outlined by the government were followed, and Huzoor’s guidance in this regard was also very helpful. Various beneficial events took place during the Ijtema that catered for the participants. There were panel discussions

on whom be peace, on account of their strict literal understanding of words. Not only this, they even continued to reject our Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. The Jews believed that when the Messiah was to appear, he would come as a king and that he would sit on the throne of Davidas with great majesty and glory. They also held that Elijahas would descend from the sky before the advent of the Messiah, but when the Messiah did appear, he said that John was the Elijah that they were expecting. Moreover, instead of appearing as a King, Jesusas demonstrated such humility that he
on the importance of pledging allegiance to Khilafat and on the life of Syed Taalay Ahmed Shaheed; various exhibitions and engaging activities for khuddam and atfal were also made available. Sadr Sahib then thanked various members of the Jamaat’s organisational structure and most of all, Hazrat Amirul Momineenaa, for accepting Majlis Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya UK’s invitation to grace the Ijtema. Thereafter, Sadr Sahib sought permission to play a short video presentation covering the activities of this
could barely find a place to rest his head. But how could those Jews who held an extremely literal view accept this? And so, they rejected the Messiah fiercely and to this day they continue to do so. Today, the Muslim clergy are prey to the same affliction. They expect that the Messiah and Mahdi will come to fight wars, but this was never the will of ْ God Almighty ُ َ anyway, and the words ( یَﻀ الحَ ْر َبHe will suspend war) in Bukhari have put an end to this dispute. However, despite all this, they do not wish to accept this ambassador of peace and security. (Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmadas, Malfuzat, Vol. 1, p. 245)

year’s Ijtema, which Huzooraa gave. Huzooraa then took to the dais to deliver the concluding address. Huzoor’s address After reciting the tashahud, ta‘awuz and Surah al-Fatihah, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih Vaa said that it was with the grace of Allah that Majlis Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya UK was holding their Ijtema following an interval of one year. Prior to this, Huzooraa said, many Ahmadis had expressed their heartfelt desire and desperation for Jalsa Salana to take place this year so that they could once again experience the blessed atmosphere of Jalsa Salana. Huzooraa said that many of the khuddam in front of him would have had the same desire for the Ijtema. Huzooraa said that although he was sure the khuddam would have enjoyed the Ijtema, it was not the foremost priority for khuddam and atfal to enjoy each other’s company; rather, the overriding purpose of the Ijtema was to enhance one’s spiritual and religious development and to take a step away from the material world. Huzooraa said that it was a grace of Allah that Jalsa Salana was held and that various speeches were delivered to enhance the participants’ religious and moral development. Huzooraa was certain that men, women and children would have benefitted from the speeches at Jalsa Salana, something which was corroborated by the various letters he received after Jalsa. Huzooraa said that the passion felt after listening to impactful speeches should not be short-lived. Huzooraa said that the auxiliary organisation of the Ahmadiyya Jamaat held Ijtemas to enhance such spiritual fervour. It was Huzoor’s hope and prayer that all khuddam and atfal would have benefitted from the programmes held at the Ijtema. Although only a certain age group from among the atfal were able to attend due to the ongoing Covid spread, Huzooraa said that it was his prayer that all atfal would come to realise their responsibilities towards serving the Jamaat. It is a great role of the youth of a nation to serve their nation for its progress. Indeed, it was to ensure the continued progress of the Jamaat that Hazrat Muslehe-Maudra established the various auxiliary bodies – Ansar, Lajna and Khuddam. Hazrat Musleh-e-Maudra said that if all the auxiliary organisations fulfilled their roles, then the progress of the Jamaat would never falter and it would continue. These were not just theoretical words, but this has been seen in practice. Sometimes, Huzooraa said, elderly servants of the Jamaat can become rigid or cautious in their ways. Of course, Huzooraa said, caution is necessary and should be properly thought through. However, caution should never be used to disguise a person’s laziness or tendency to procrastinate. If laziness ever creeps in, then it is the duty of the rest of the Jamaat to ensure that it does not hinder the growth and progress of the Jamaat. If men fail to fulfil their duties, then Lajna should step up to fulfil this shortcoming and likewise. If, God forbid, all three auxiliary organisations ever become lazy or weak,
then the central administration under the amir can continue to work. However, if the central admin shows sloth, then the auxiliary bodies should step up. Thus, all organisations should be working at an optimal level to ensure the moral and spiritual progress of Jamaat members. If the central organisations work in this way, then, “insha-Allah, there is nothing that can stop the progress of the Jamaat and the fulfilment of the objective of the Promised Messiahas.” Huzooraa said that he had observed that where the organisations were all active, the jamaats there were developing at a fast pace. However, where there was sloth, Huzooraa said that there was a slow rate of progress. Every one of us has pledged our allegiance to the Promised Messiahas; therefore it is imperative for us to comprehend what this pledge entails. As members of Majlis Khuddam-ulAhmadiyya, khuddam are at the prime of their life in terms of health and physical and mental capabilities; hence, it is essential for Majlis Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya to fulfil its role in the best possible way. If members of Majlis Khuddam-ulAhmadiyya display the highest morals and maximise their religious and secular knowledge and are those who act upon the commands of the Holy Quran and the Holy Prophetsa and are obedient to Khalifatul Masih, then the rate of the progress of the Jamaat will increase manifold. Furthermore, Huzooraa added, the wellbeing of the future generations is also linked with Majlis Khuddam-ulAhmadiyya. Many khuddam have children of their own and are directly responsible for the future of the Jamaat. The true role of a father is described by the Holy Prophetsa, in that they should impart the best morals and virtues. If khuddam wished to bequeath the best gift to their children, then they must reflect on whether they are true role models to them. The older khuddam between 25-40 must realise that they are at an age where they are directly influencing the next generation. Huzooraa was asked in a recent virtual mulaqat about what a khadim should do if older khuddam were not fulfilling their roles. Huzooraa said he mentioned this at the Ansar Ijtema the previous week also. He said that khuddam must realise that their behaviour has a direct impact on the younger generation; thus they should not let them down. Huzooraa said that if they did not pay due attention to fulfilling their responsibilities to Allah and each other, and excelling spiritually themselves, then they would effectively be setting a harmful example to the next generation and they would be held accountable for this. The Holy Prophetsa said that the father was the guardian of his home, but if he did not fulfil his role, then he would be held answerable. If one fulfils both the rights of man and God, then such a one will be a guide and true role model for the next generation, who the khuddam should consider as their younger brothers. Huzooraa said to keep in mind that the life and success of a community is not dependant on any single generation;

rather, those nations who try to prosper and have the ability to change the world for the better are those in which, generation after generation, they are willing to ensure that the growth of their community never slows. We are that community that claims to believe in the Messiah of the age and that we will spread the message of the Holy Prophetsa to the corners of the world. This requires that each Ahmadi strives to improve their own moral standards and follow the teachings of Islam. We cannot relax or rest until and unless each and every member of the Jamaat leaves no stone unturned in coming closer to Allah the Almighty. Huzooraa then said: “Just as the sun rises without fail each morning, our each and every day should give rise to glad tidings of the spiritual progress and advancement of the members of the Jamaat. Until that is our state, we
cannot be content. “On your banners, you proudly display the slogan bestowed to Khuddamul-Ahmadiyya by Hazrat Musleh-eMaudra that nations cannot be reformed without the reformation of the youth; however, these are not just words or a motto to take pride in, but should be a wake-up call for the members of Khuddam and should motivate and inspire you. “This slogan is displayed prominently at your Khuddam events so that these profound words become deeply ingrained in the hearts and minds of every khadim. Indeed, each khadim, whether they are an office-bearer or not, should view these words as a personal challenge to live up to, wherein they must play their role in the reformation of their nation by reforming themselves. Hence, you must strive to attain the highest moral and spiritual standards and to be a true asset for your nation and community. Otherwise, just to
repeat these words without any action is utterly meaningless. “I also wish to remind the administration of Majlis Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya that if all the office-bearers at each level strive to personally improve and focus upon their personal development, it will have a prodigious effect on the majlis. Even without holding any special programmes or events, you will become a means of guidance and instruction through your personal example. Other khuddam will see that you are sincere and will seek to emulate you, insha-Allah. “I also wish to say to the younger khuddam that they should not think that because they are young, they do not need to be concerned about their religion or spiritual state and that theirs is an age merely of leisure and fun. Certainly, at your age, you should be involved in positive forms of recreation and other good activities, but at the same time, you should
recognise that you are now reaching the age of full maturity. In fact, in the olden days, people would often get married in their teenage years and they would take on the associated responsibilities. “Furthermore, in early Islam, very young men, aged 18 or 19, not only took part in the major battles of that time, but were given the rank of commanders. They acted with outstanding courage and manifested the highest levels of faith. So do not underestimate your abilities or think that you can focus upon your faith and religion at a later time in your life; rather, even as teenagers and young adults, you should understand your value and importance. “In addition, all khuddam should focus upon the pledge you have made to be ready for every possible sacrifice for the sake of your faith, country and nation. It should not be that you proclaim these words aloud but that your actions remain silent. “If you truly wish to fulfil your pledge, then first and foremost, the most important thing is Namaz – the practical solution of your being a good khadim. You must be regular in offering the five daily prayers and do not speedily offer them without due attention; rather, your prayers should be offered carefully with proper concentration and with the true love of Allah embedded within your heart. Use that time of prayer to build your relationship with Allah and do not just pray for yourself or your family, but also pray for your faith and for the Jamaat and nation. “Additionally, all khuddam and atfal should do tilawat daily, even if it is just a few rukus. You should try to understand the meaning of the Quran so that you can Continued on next page >>

learn the best morals and know what Allah desires from you.” Huzooraa said that one method to achieve this could be to select a command of the Quran and to make it a firm resolve to abide by it. Huzooraa said that come what may, one should resolve to achieve it. If one could make a resolution to shun one bad thing and adopt virtues in their stead, then this could also be a great way of moral and spiritual change. “Specifically, there is one noble quality which I would like to particularly emphasise and that is the virtue of speaking truthfully. “As you leave the Ijtema today, you should do so with a firm and sincere intention to always speak the truth and to act with honesty at all times and in all circumstances.” Huzooraa said that in all places and at all times, khuddam and atfal should always be truthful. The tarbiyat department, alongside ensuring punctuality in Namaz and a study of the books of the Promised Messiahas, should ensure that khuddam spoke the truth. This was the means of attaining the nearness of Allah and shunning shirk. In this regard, the Promised Messiahas said that one must shun all forms of idol-worship; in fact, falsehood is also a sort of idol-worship. When one utters falsehood, they associate partners with God. The Promised Messiahas said that this should be avoided at all costs. Those who lied or deceived were no different to idol-worshippers, and made falsehood their god. Another quality, Huzooraa said, that khuddam and atfal should adopt is to be loving towards one another and to foster an atmosphere of love and brotherhood. Regrettably, very minor things cause serious issues and quarrels among those who should be like brothers. If such elements enter our Jamaat, then it renders our motto of “Love for all, hatred for none” as hollow. Huzooraa said the truly brave one was he who subdued his anger and suppressed
“
it.
The reformation of the youth is intrinsically related to the reformation to the entire world, thus khuddam should not think it is a small task. Huzooraa said that ambitions should not be limited to worldly pursuits, but also to fulfil the rights of Allah and His creation. Huzooraa then advised the students of Majlis Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya UK by saying that they should ensure that alongside their religious obligations, they should endeavour to reach the apex of their profession, whether at a government level or otherwise. Khuddam should not leave education after GCSEs in the hope of easy money. Huzooraa then assigned a challenge to Majlis Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya by saying: “In recent times, it has generally been observed in our Jamaat that our girls are excelling boys in education. In light of this, I lay down the challenge to the member of Majlis Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya to strive to redress this imbalance and to endeavour to achieve the very best results in your academic career.”
In this way, Huzooraa said, a perpetual cycle of academic excellence would commence. In regard to the community of the Promised Messiahas, Allah said that his members would excel in attaining knowledge and understanding. So all khuddam and atfal must bear this in mind and endeavour to live up to this. Huzooraa then prayed that all khuddam and atfal were able to fulfil their role in serving humanity and serving the Jamaat of the Promised Messiahas. Towards the end, after silent prayer, Huzooraa said, “There is an announcement here, that now I will launch a website – the Salat Hub website.” Huzooraa then described the purpose of the website and various details of the site. Huzooraa listened to some taraney (choral poems), after which Huzooraa conveyed his salaam. Before departing the Ijtema site, Huzooraa launched the salathub.co.uk website, an initiative of Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya UK. Details of which are given below:
Just as the sun rises without fail each morning, our each and every day should give rise to glad tidings of the spiritual progress and advancement of the members of the Jamaat. Until that is our state, we cannot be content.
Salat Hub website Salathub.co.uk, the website launched by Hazrat Khalifatul Masih Vaa earlier today, is the first website of its kind and can be used by people of all levels and ages. Umair Bashir Sahib, Naib Mohtamim Atfal-ul-Ahmadiyya UK, told Al Hakam that the website is divided into two key sections; the first being the Salat Hub Quiz which is a collection of interactive quizzes. The quizzes have been divided into 13 key sections, each functioning on a fundamental part of Salat. Users can click on a unique section to complete the quiz on that part which allows the user to test themselves. Before beginning the quiz, visitors to the website can revise parts of Salat in a text, audio and visual format. The quiz has two modes: easy and hard modes. The easy mode has the same questions as the hard mode, but the hard mode allows you to race against time with a 15-second timer to answer each question. Each section has four levels of the quiz, the first being the simple Arabic of the Salat. After each word, you are asked what the next word is, such as, “What comes after ‘Al-Rahman’ in Surah Al-Fatihah?” The second section will ask users for the Arabic translation of phrases into English. The third level will ask for the Arabic to English split-word translation, and the final level will ask the Englishto-Arabic translation. Each level is locked until you pass the previous level by getting more than 75% of the marks. The second key section of the Salat Hub is a collection of learning resources where users can learn Salat through various materials produced by different Jamaat platforms, like the Salat workbook, the Salat poster, Videos by MKA about how to carry out Salat and a complete split-word translation. It is hoped that, in time, the platform will grow and become the go-to place with quizzes and games to learn Salat in an engaging way. (Report prepared by Al Hakam)

Ahmadi women should be confident in their faith Amila of Lajna Imaillah Finland seeks guidance from Hazrat Khalifatul Masih V
On 18 September 2021, the national amila of Lajna Imaillah Finland had a virtual meeting with Hazrat Khalifatul Masih Vaa. For the meeting, Huzooraa was seated in the new MTA International studio in Islamabad, UK. The meeting started with silent prayer led by Hazrat Khalifatul Masih Vaa. After speaking with Rehana Kokab Sahiba, Sadr Lajna Imaillah Finland, Huzooraa spoke to each amila member and asked them to introduce themselves and their departments. Speaking to Iffat Saeed Sahiba, General Secretary, Huzooraa asked about the total number of majalis, where they were located, the total number of Lajna members in Finland and how many majalis had sent their reports. Iffat Saeed Sahiba said there were a total of three majalis in different cities, and the total number of Lajna members was 87. Hearing this number, Huzooraa remarked, “Really? There are this many in just one halqa? Your majlis should be very ideal then.” Aafia Musawer Sahiba, Naib Sadr and Secretary Tabligh reported. Hazrat Khalifatul Masihaa asked about the tabligh plans in place and their targets. Talking about bai‘at targets, Huzooraa said: “If there is no target, work does not get done […] if you set the target that ‘we will achieve 50 bai‘ats in the year’, you will work to achieve it.” Hazrat Khalifatul Masihaa emphasised that targets for bai‘ats must be made because without them, no work could be achieved. “You have a total of 87 Lajna members and if 100% of the 87 are active, and they preach to 87 households [...] then it totals to 174 households – and introducing [Islam] to 174 households [at a time] will take a whole lifetime.” Huzooraa said ambitious targets and plans should be made. Speaking with Kanza Mahmood Sahiba, Secretary Talim (education), Hazrat Khalifatul Masihaa urged that as the total number of Lajna members was low, “100% participation” in talim classes should be achieved. Huzooraa also asked Kanza Sahiba to formulate ambitious programmes. Alia Kanwal Sahiba, Secretary Tarbiyat, reported next. Advising her about improving the numbers of members who offered Salat regularly and read the Holy Quran, Huzooraa said to ensure all amila members were doing so first, and that the rest would follow if this
was achieved. “Start with your amila first […] the amila should offer five daily prayers; the amila should read the Holy Quran regularly; the amila’s purdah should be proper; the dress of the amila should be proper; the amila’s morals should be good – they should not get angry, and the rest [of the Lajna] will correct themselves too, as a result.” Hazrat Khalifatul Masihaa asked Alia Sahiba where she was from in Pakistan, to which she said she had lived in Faisalabad and was the daughter of Dr Rashid Karim. Hearing this, Huzooraa said, “I see, you are the daughter of Rashid Karim? Then you should work a lot; the people of Faisalabad work very efficiently.” Durdana Tooba Sahiba, Secretary Khidmat-e-Khalq (Service to Humanity) reported. Huzooraa asked Durdana Sahiba about her studies and what she wanted to pursue in university. Durdana Sahiba said she planned to go into medicine, to which Huzoor said, “Masha-Allah”. Huzooraa asked Durdana Sahiba if she was content with the amount of help they gave to those in need,
as Lajna Imaillah Findland only had a very small budget for khidmat-e-khalq activities. Speaking to Sadia Shahzad Sahiba, Secretary Maal (Finance) and Muavina Sadr Wasiyyat, Hazrat Amirul Momineenaa said to make relative collections for those who earned and those who did not. For example, the Ijtema chanda was not meant to be equal for both earning and non-earning members. In his guidance, Huzooraa said to ensure those members who should be giving – keeping in mind their financial capacity – were urged to give their chanda. However, any member who did not bear the capacity should be shown compassion. Huzooraa said: “If the tarbiyat department is working properly, they should tell them what the importance of chanda is; Allah the Almighty has given this commandment in the Holy Quran, the Holy Prophetsa has said it and, in this age, the Promised Messiahas said it. It is not some tax; rather, it is to enable the organisation of the Jamaat to work that chanda is necessary.” In summary, Huzooraa said that with
proper organisation and education of Lajna members, Lajna Finland could considerably increase their chanda collections. Sadia Mubashira, Secretary Nasirat was next to report. Huzooraa asked how many nasirat there were in Finland, to which she said there were 21. Huzooraa asked about the tarbiyat plan in place for nasirat. Sadia Sahiba reported the nasirat studied various articles on an array of topics and they taught the Salat with translation and the first 17 verses of Surah al-Baqarah along with other surahs to the nasirat. She said that as the Urdu language of the nasirat was weak, Urdu classes were held too. To this, Hazrat Amirul Momineenaa said that if the nasirat’s Urdu was weak, they should provide them with content in English and the amila members who know English should help in this regard. Faiza Bushra Sahiba, Secretary Isha‘at reported. Huzooraa asked if there was a magazine for the Lajna in Finland. Faiza Continued on next page >>

Sahiba said there was a monthly newsletter published. Huzooraa asked if all the Lajna read it and what the contents were. Faiza Sahiba said it was shared with everyone online and it included extracts from the Holy Quran, ahadith, extracts from the writings of the Promised Messiahas and instructions of Hazrat Khalifatul Masih Vaa. Huzooraa asked if the newsletter was in English or Urdu, to which Faiza Sahiba said the majority was in Urdu. Huzooraa advised that the Urdu extracts should have the English translations too as many of the Lajna members did not know Urdu and would, therefore, not understand. After hearing the food preparations for the amila members that day from secretary ziafat, Huzooraa remarked that she had treated the amila members by preparing such a menu. Secretary ziafat said they prepared the menu in celebration of the meeting with Huzooraa. Arooba Naseem Sahiba, Secretary Tahrik-e-Jadid and Waqf-e-Jadid reported to Huzooraa. During the conversation, Hazrat Amirul Momineenaa said all Lajna members should fulfil their promises and if they could not, they ought not to make such promises. Addressing Aruba Sahib, Huzooraa said, “You cannot force it, but whoever made promises, they should fulfil those promise.” Sidra Shaukat Sahiba, Secretary Umur-eTalibat (Student Affairs) was next to report. Huzooraa asked her if she was studying, to which Sidra Sahiba said she was doing a master’s in protein science and biotechnology. Huzooraa then asked her about the demographics of Lajna students and their various levels of study. Sidra Sahiba reported there were 18 Lajna students who were going to college, pursuing their bachelor’s degrees, doing master’s degrees and some pursuing their PhDs. Huzooraa asked, “How many are doing their PhDs?” Sidra Sahiba said three Lajna members were doing their PhD to which Huzooraa said, “Really? Masha-Allah, what fields?” Sidra Sahiba said one was doing a PhD in chemical engineering, another was pursuing bio-informatics and the other in human resources. To this Huzooraa commented, “Your girls are very bright.” Hamida Jaree, Muavina Sadr Waqf-eNau reported next. Huzooraa asked how many waqifaat-e-nau were in Lajna Imaillah Finland and asked some other questions too. Hamida Sahiba reported there were a total of 63 waqifaat-e-nau and of these, 41 were over the age of seven, 15 above the age of 15 and seven between the ages of seven and 15. Huzooraa asked Hamida Sahiba if she followed the waqifaat-e-nau syllabus that had been assigned. Hamida Sahib reported they did and had regular monthly classes too and also took exams from the waqifaate-nau. They planned to have all the waqifaat-e-nau to complete their syllabus and improve languages too. At this, all the amila members had given their reports. Huzooraa noticed two young Lajna members seated at the back of the hall and asked who they were. Huzooraa then very lovingly asked about their studies and ages. Speaking to one of them, Aysha Qayyum Sahiba, who studied in year eight, Huzooraa
asked what she wanted to do in the future. She responded by saying she wasn’t sure and asked Huzooraa for guidance. Hazrat Amirul Momineenaa advised her by saying: “Whatever you have an interest in, pursue that. If you are interested in science, then study medicine. If you are interested in arts or language, then study a language, or do journalism […] You can do whatever you like, see what your interests are and do that.” Hazrat Khalifatul Masihaa then turned to Rehana Kokab Sahiba, Sadr Lajna Imaillah Finland who said some of the amila members had questions. The first question was about tabligh. Secretary tabligh said that Ahmadi men distributed tabligh related leaflets in public spheres. She wanted to know how Lajna members could get involved too. Hazrat Khalifatul Masihaa said: “Why can’t Lajna do this too? You go to the market, buy groceries, go outside regularly and go to parks, etc. Take the nasirat with you – they go to school too. So make groups of two or three and distribute pamphlets. “Get yourself acquainted and known as much as you can with women. Preach to women. What’s the harm in this? “If [Muslim] women could take part in battles during the early days, then why can’t they distribute leaflets today? I just explained this yesterday, that they used to take part in battles. The battle of this age is to do tabligh, right? So, carry out tabligh. We aren’t to wield swords – in this age, we are to give out literature and distribute it.” Huzooraa said that Lajna members should also take caution and go in groups of twos or threes and have some nasirat members with them so they are trained as well. Apart from this, Huzooraa instructed to develop relations with more women and to preach to them. Another question was about complexes the young nasirat members or Lajna members had with their Islamic dress. The question asked was, “How can we increase the love and confidence of purdah and cultural clothing?” Hazrat Amirul Momineenaa said: “The thing to remember is that religion is first and foremost. No matter the type of clothing – however it is – it must be modest. The Holy Quran did not say that ‘you have to wear shalwar kameez or a robe’. The Holy Quran says you must wear modest clothing – a woman’s beauty should not be visible. “This is the responsibility of the tarbiyat department and it is the responsibility of the nasirat department that they should inculcate [this] from childhood. It is also the responsibility of parents.” Huzooraa emphasised that the tarbiyat department, parents and the nasirat department all work to inculcate the teachings of Islamic modesty and dressing amongst Lajna members, from a young age. Huzooraa said they should teach Lajna members that “we are Ahmadi Muslims and so, we should act on the commandments of Allah the Almighty. And Allah the Almighty says to wear modest clothing. “There are some Muslims – some Arab [Muslims] too who are not Ahmadis – who wear jeans and a blouse and then wear the hijab on top and believe they have done a lot of purdah. There is no point in such a purdah as their clothing is still revealing […] or, when they go outside, they wear a

Modesty is a part of faith – this is a hadith. For this reason, from childhood, you will need to teach girls that ‘modesty is a part of faith’ and we are Ahmadi Muslims too, therefore we should show our examples. There should not be any form of double standard, and when our dress is modest, our own modesty will be upheld too. When we get older, according to that modest dressing, we will wear our clothes and will do purdah and will not be embarrassed by it, nor have complexes. “‘Create the realisation within yourself that we are to reform the world and get it to follow us – we are not to follow the world.’” Huzooraa further said: “If mothers themselves don’t have courage and confidence, and when they go out they are overawed by Western people [and] anyone who speaks a line or two of English or the local language, they get scared of them and go silent, then this is wrong.” Hazrat Amirul Momineenaa said that Ahmadi girls should be given confidence about who they are and the Lajna and nasirat departments, with the help of parents, should instil this confidence. Huzooraa said that those girls who were born in Western countries and who had a close attachment with the Jamaat, regularly listened to Huzoor’s sermons and speeches to Lajna and were attached with Lajna Imaillah, did not fall into complexes over their faith and Islamic way of dressing. “Those who move away from the Jamaat develop complexes, or such people whose parents are uneducated and do not pay attention to giving the answers their girls have. For those girls whose parents are not educated, educated Lajna members should befriend them; after all, there are young Lajna members too who are 16-22 years old. They should help them understand what they are to do and not to do. Every [Lajna] member can attach one girl with themselves. You have a very small number [of Lajna members in Finland] – everyone
can attach themselves with one girl and thus, the complex will diminish.” The last question asked was how to overcome laziness showed by some Lajna members in offering their five daily prayers regularly. Hazrat Khalifatul Masihaa said: “Our work is to constantly remind; this is the task and this was the instruction of the Holy Prophetsa: to remind, remind and remind. We are to give this advice until the habit is formed. “Help them understand the importance of Salat, why we offer Salat. To only say, ‘Offer Salat – Allah will become angry, so read Salat’ […] [to merely say this] is not enough because the world continues to increase in materialism. Explain to them the philosophy of Salat, why we offer Salat and why one should offer it; what are the benefits of Salat and the drawbacks if we don’t offer it? And if we are to call ourselves Ahmadi Muslim, then how should we act? We should not be duplicity, otherwise this becomes hypocrisy. If we are to do good works, we should do them correctly, not that we merely say we are Ahmadi Muslims for a show, and our actions are not according to the claim. “The elders should also show their examples during Salat. If parents are offering Salat and there is due attention towards worship, then children will develop due importance to it as well.” Hazrat Khalifatul Masihaa said every department and section of the Jamaat needed to work to achieve this task and inculcate the importance of Salat within the youngsters. At the end, Sadr Sahiba Finland thanked Huzooraa for giving his precious time to them. Huzooraa asked what time it was in Finland, to which Sadr Sahiba said it was 3:28pm. Huzooraa enquired if they had had lunch, to which Sadr Sahiba responded by saying they had not. Huzooraa said, “Okay, then go [and eat], you all must be hungry now.” Hazrat Khalifatul Masihaa conveyed his salaam and the meeting came to a close (Report prepared by Al Hakam)

Lajna amila Finland elated after meeting Hazrat Amirul Momineen Rehana Kokab Sadr Lajna Imaillah Finland
The national amila of Lajna Imaillah Finland had the opportunity to have their firstever virtual meeting with Hazrat Amirul Momineenaa on 18 September 2021. The amila members were located at the Helsinki Mission House, Finland. The desire to meet Hazrat Khalifatul Masihaa resides in every Ahmadi’s heart, but where the pandemic has put a temporary stop to these meetings, it taught us a new way in the shape of virtual meetings. The national majlis-e-amila of Lajna Imaillah Finland had requested a meeting with Huzooraa last year, but the date of the meeting could not be decided due to the restriction on gatherings of more than 10 people in Finland. As soon as the national restrictions were lifted, a request was made again for a virtual meeting with Huzooraa, which was kindly approved by Huzooraa on 15 July 2021, and the date of 18 September 2021 was approved. The news of the approval filled everyone with joy as well as concern. On the one hand was the joy of meeting our beloved master, and on the other, the thought of how we would be able to present ourselves in front of Huzooraa. I conveyed the good news to everyone by convening a meeting of the national majlise-amila and requested them to pray for the success of this meeting, give sadaqah and recite istighfar and durood sharif, as much as possible. I also requested the amila members to prepare all the statistics related to their departments, full performance reports for the current year and their planning for the next six months so that if, during the meeting, Huzooraa enquired, all the details could be available. After the preparation of the report of each department, myself and Vice President, Aafia Musawer Sahiba, held several meetings with all the members and made preparations for their meeting. For this meeting, the preparation of the venue and the audio and video arrangements were also very important. As this was the first online meeting in Finland, it was a brand new experience for us. The Sami-o-basri (audio and video) department made special arrangements for this meeting. New equipment was acquired, and preparations were made under the guidance of the MTA International team so that the quality of the audio and video would not be compromised. It was decided to hold the meeting at the Salat centre in Helsinki. Since our beloved Huzooraa was going to see us at this place, we had a heartfelt desire to decorate the place as beautifully as we could. All the arrangements were reviewed several times last week under the guidance of MTA and necessary changes were made. In this regard, the National President of Jamaate-Ahmadiyya Finland, Ata ul Ghalib Sahib and the sami-o-basri team fully cooperated.
Finally, after a long wait, the blessed day dawned when we were to have a glimpse of our dearest Huzooraa. All the amila members gathered in the morning at the Salat centre. Breakfast was arranged on the day of the meeting by the ziafat department. All members were ready for the final testing after breakfast. While waiting, everyone was constantly engaged in istighfar, durood sharif and prayers. When Huzooraa appeared on the screen, all the members stood up and conveyed their salaam. The whole atmosphere shone with the radiant face of Huzooraa. The whole hall was enchanted in such a way that it cannot be described in words. The meeting, which lasted for an hour, felt as if it had ended in the blink of an eye. After the meeting, everyone thanked Allah the Almighty with fervent emotions, Who had enabled us to witness the day when we had the opportunity to meet our dear Huzooraa for the first time in our country Finland, alhamdulillah. Below are the impressions of the participants: Afia Musawer, Naiba Sadr and Secretary Tabligh, said: “I feel blessed to have been part of this mulaqat, graced by beloved Huzooraa and motivated to spread the message of Islam Ahmadiyyat in Finland as instructed by Huzooraa. Huzoor’s love and affection will always be cherished”. Iffat Saeed, General Secretary, said: “The mulaqat was beneficial for us as there is room for improvement in the various departments and we realised that we have to work harder and increase our efforts. After receiving guidelines for my department from beloved Huzooraa, I will try to improve, insha-Allah. “Being in the presence of Huzooraa made me feel joy and peace, and the nervousness and worry that was there before the mulaqat vanished completely. The one hour did not feel long; rather, it seemed to have passed within a few moments.” Munazza Zafar, Naiba General Secretary and National Muhasibah Maal, said: “Alhamdulillah, it was the first time I got an opportunity to meet with beloved Huzooraa. This blessed meeting was
refreshing […] I cannot express my feelings and emotions in words. I will cherish these moments and feelings for the rest of my life. The anxiety before the meeting changed with peace with Huzoor’saa presence.” Kanza Mahmood, Secretary Talim, said: “It is a special favour of Allah that we were granted the opportunity to spend some time with beloved Huzooraa. Prior to the meeting, there was stress and fear as to how everything would happen. But when we saw Huzoor’saa radiant face on the screen, a wave of joy overtook us. “After getting guidance from Huzooraa, I felt like acting upon his instructions all at once. May Allah enable us to perform our duties in the best possible way. Amin”. Alia Kanwal, Secretary Tarbiyat, said: “The meeting with beloved Huzooraa was very beneficial. I will strive to accomplish the instructions which Huzooraa gave about offering prayers more than before, insha-Allah. I pray to Allah that He may now enable me to perform my duties in a much better way. Prior to this meeting, I was praying to Allah to cover up our shortcomings and empower us to conduct every commandment of Huzooraa in the best possible manner.” Sara Sadaf Umair, Secretary NauMubai‘at, said: “In Pakistan, we always used to watch such mulaqats with deep desire to meet Huzooraa; we wondered if we could ever have such a meeting with our spiritual father. But now, alhamdulillah, Allah the Almighty has blessed us, so much so that it cannot be described in words.” Durdana Tooba, Secretary Khidmat-eKhalq, said: “I spoke with Huzooraa for the very first time. I have no words to express those feelings I had after the mulaqat. We have witnessed a glimpse of nur [light] with our eyes. While sitting under the shelter of Khilafat, I felt there is a hand over our heads that protects us from every evil.” Sadia Shahzad, Secretary Maal and Muawina Wasaya, said: “By the grace of Allah, I had the opportunity of meeting Huzooraa virtually for the very first time. Before the mulaqat, I was quite worried and nervous but as
soon as Huzooraa graced the meeting, I felt an instant sense of calm. I thank Allah for giving me this opportunity to meet beloved Huzooraa.” Sadia Mubashira, Secretary Nasirat, said: “It was my first mulaqat with Huzooraa. Upon seeing Huzoor’s radiant face, my heart was very satisfied and I do not know how the hour passed. On the question asked about purdah, Huzooraa very kindly provided guidance on it and told us how we can bring improvement in Nasirat’s purdah.” Farzana Qayyum, Secretary San‘at-oDastkari, said: “I was feeling nervousness before the meeting, but when I caught sight of the smiling face of beloved Huzooraa, I felt delight and it settled my heart with calmness. Hazrat Amirul Momineenaa directed us very constructively to carry out our responsibilities in a better way. All amila members enjoyed Huzoor’saa sense of humour too. Everyone was relaxed after the meeting and were thankful that Allah had granted them the opportunity of the meeting”. Faiza Bushra, Secretary Ishaat, said: “I was very anxious before meeting with beloved Huzooraa […] I was praying to Allah that he cover us all and dismiss all our shortcomings and weaknesses. As soon as the meeting started and upon seeing Huzoor’s blessed face, all the anxiousness went away, alhamdulillah. Huzooraa gave precious instructions regarding the improvements to be made in the department of Isha‘at.” Samara Ghalib, Secretary Tajnid, said: “The mulaqat moved me to introspect where I stand in prioritising religion over worldly matters and be mindful of a deep connection with the Creator, Allah the Almighty. I would actually call this meeting a ‘meeting with our spiritual father’. Huzooraa lightened up the mood for everyone. In a nutshell, the experience of meeting Huzooraa was very pleasant.” Naseem Akhter, Secretary Ziafat, said: “This was a very beautiful event in my life, by the grace of Allah, to see and talk to Huzooraa from so near. I had a very strange feeling before Huzooraa arrived. My whole body was shivering, but as soon as Huzooraa arrived, I was completely calm. The hour in Huzoor’saa company passed so quickly. My heart wanted Huzooraa to remain in front of us and we remain seated in the direct shadow of Khilafat.” Arooba Naseem, Secretary Waqf-e-Jadid and Tahrik-e-Jadid, said: “When Huzooraa appeared on the screen, we all stood up and he answered our salaam. I cannot express my feelings at that time. There were tears in my eyes and the surrounding environment was peaceful and very different and I was immensely happy. In my turn, I was trembling and unable to hold the microphone, but Huzooraa instructed so passionately, that all fear was gone and my heart was very calm, alhamdulillah. “Nations develop only when they look at their weaknesses and try to improve” National amila and regional heads of Ansarullah Germany seek guidance from Huzoor
On 19 September 2021 the national amila of Majlis Ansarullah Germany and regional nazimeen-e-ala met with Hazrat Khalifatul Masih Vaa in a virtual mulaqat. After conveying his salaam, Hazrat Amirul Momineenaa started the meeting with silent prayer. Addressing Mubarak Ahmad Shahid Sahib, Sadr Majlis Ansrarullah Germany, Huzooraa asked what the programme was for the meeting. Sadr Sahib responded that the national amila desired to gain guidance from Huzooraa with regard to their respective duties and roles. Naib Sadr Awwal, Bashir Ahmad Rehan Sahib, was the first to present his report. He said that he was currently working in three different departments, namely tarbiyat, talim, and talim-ul-Quran. Next, speaking with Zafar Ahmad Sahib, Naib Sadr Saf-e-Daum, Hazrat Khalifatul Masihaa asked how many ansar were cycling regularly. Zafar Ahmad Sahib replied that, in view of the reports and figures, 1,433 ansar cycled regularly. Huzooraa then asked how many ansar there were in saf-e-daum, to which he
replied that there were 3,947 members. Hazrat Khalifatul Masih Vaa said that programmes should be made to ensure that members of Ansarullah remained as active as they were in Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya. Next, Qaid Talim, Ashfaq Ahmad Sahib, reported that the year’s talim programme was mainly focused on three essential points. One point was to ensure more ansar partook in reading and studying books that were prescribed for them. Hearing this, Huzooraa asked how many members of ansar there were. Ashfaq Ahmad Sahib replied that there were 7,118 ansar, as shown in the reports. Huzooraa then asked how many were active in the programmes initiated by qaid talim. Ashfaq Ahmad Sahib answered that there were, up until now, 3,480 members of Ansarullah who took part in reading and studying the prescribed books. Hazrat Amirul Momineenaa, whilst offering guidance, said, “Give some [members of Ansar] the audio [of the books],” so that they may listen to the books during their day-to-day schedule. Speaking with Shahid Hassan Sahib, Additional Qaid Umumi, Hazrat Amirul
Momineenaa asked where the members of the amila were seated. Answering, he said that they were gathered and seated in the men’s sports hall of Bait-us-Sabuh complex. Next, Huzooraa spoke with Khalil-udDin Ahmad Sahib, Qaid Umumi, and asked how many majalis there were and how many sent their reports regularly. Khalilud-Din Ahmad Sahib stated that there were 280 majalis and all majalis were regular in sending their reports. Addressing Sheikh Muhammad Imran Sahib, Naib Sadr and Qaid Mal, Hazrat Amirul Momineenaa stated: “If you reflect on your weaknesses, you will make progress. No progress can be achieved by merely focusing on the positive side of things. Nations develop only when they look at their weaknesses and try to improve.” Next, Zaheer Ahmad Tahir Sahib, Naib Sadr, presented his report. He stated that he was currently compiling the history of the Jamaat in Germany from 2003 onwards. Farooq Ahmad Cheema, Additional Qaid Isar, reported that he was responsible for the Ansar charity walks. He reported
that last year, it was not possible to hold such charity events. He added that this year, eight charity walks had already been held. He said that from the money raised, 80% was donated to various local charity organisations and the remaining 20% was donated to Humanity First. Khawaja Rafiq Ahmad, Qaid Isar, stated that he was currently focusing on six different tasks such as holding charity walks, tree planting, waqar-e-amal and checking up on Ansar members who required help. He stated that through these works, various people were being introduced to the Jamaat. Hazrat Amirul Momineenaa said that work should be started by Ansarullah Germany for “making a model village in Africa.” Addressing Tayyab Shehzad Sahib, Qaid Tarbiyat Nau-Mubai‘een, Hazrat Amirul Momineenaa stated that converts to Ahmadiyyat should be added to his team to ensure that the new converts’ tarbiyat was done properly. Hazrat Khalifatul Masih Vaa asked about the programme made for the year. Huzooraa asked how many ansar offered Salat in congregation and how many recited the Holy Quran; to which qaid tarbiyat responded that 45% offered Salat in congregation and 50% recited the Holy Quran according to the figures in the reports. Hearing this, Huzooraa said that he should send members of his team to various majalis to corroborate the reports. Huzooraa then asked him about the numbers and figures of those Ansar who taught and advised their children to offer the daily prayers. To this, he was told he did not have the figures for this. Hazrat Khalifatul Masih Vaa then stated: “It is your [Ansar’s] duty to also look after the next generation … did you listen to my address I delivered in the UK Ansarullah Ijtema?” Qaid Sahib responded in the affirmative. Huzooraa added, “Did you manage to extract any points relating to tarbiyat from the address?” Huzooraa said that points should be extracted and shared with all the majalis so that they may act upon them. Whilst addressing Mansoor Ahmad Sahib, Additional Qaid Mal Expenses, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih Vaa asked if everything was running according to the budget, to which he responded in the affirmative. Speaking with Waseem Ahmad Sindhi Sahib, Qaid Zehanat-o-Sehat-e-Jismani, Huzooraa enquired how much exercise he did regularly; replying, he stated that he would walk around four kilometres daily. Hearing this, Huzooraa smiled and said, “Now you have the right to ask the Ansar [about exercise].” Addressing Atif Shahzad Sahib, Qaid Tabligh, Huzooraa enquired about his plan for tabligh. In response, he said that there were online sittings held and one-to-one sittings held, wherever needed. He added that flyers and leaflets were also distributed. Whilst presenting his report, Qaid Isar, Mudasser Ahmad Shah Sahib, said that he was tasked by Sadr Sahib to look after the wellbeing of the ansar who were either unwell or of old age. He stated that he would
meet with them, speak with them, and would ask about their well-being. Dr Rashid Nawaz Sahib, Qaid Isha‘at, was next to present his report. Hazrat Khalifatul Masih Vaa asked him how frequently the Ansarullah magazine was published. Dr Rashid Nawaz Sahib responded that the Ansarullah magazine was published every three to four months. He added that Majlis Ansarullah was expected to publish a quarterly periodical as per their constitution. Next, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih Vaa received a report from both qaids of Tahrike-Jadid and Waqf-e-Jadid. Hazrat Amirul Momineenaa stated that the Waqf-e-Jadid target should make efforts and try to excel the Tahrik-e-Jadid target. Whilst speaking with Zaeem-e-Ala Frankfurt, Falahuddin Khan Sahib, Hazrat Amirul Momineenaa asked how many ansar lived in Frankfurt. In response, he said that there were 404 ansar in Frankfurt. Huzooraa asked if the ansar were active and further stated: “What I have said to the qaideen is also addressed to the zu‘ama seated here. If they [the zu‘ama] start working in this way in their majalis properly, then the pace of the development of the Jamaat can increase manifold.” Following this, speaking with qaid talimul-Quran & waqf-e-arzi, Huzooraa asked how many Ansar members had participated in waqf-e-arzi, to which he responded that 657 members of Ansarullah had participated during the year. Hearing this, Huzooraa told him to also ensure that all amila members took part and emphasised that he should make a target to get 100% of the amila to participate in waqf-e-arzi. As the mulaqat ended, Huzooraa addressed Sadr Sahib and the members present by saying: “Exhaust all your efforts, pray to Allah the Exalted that He may cause your efforts to bear the most excellent fruits, and then leave the matter with Allah.” With this, Hazrat Khalifatul Masihaa conveyed his salaam to all members and the meeting drew to a close. Nasirat from Midlands, UK learn from Huzoor’s company
Mateen Bhatti Secretary Nasirat, UK
On 12 September 2021, Nasirat from the Midlands region of the UK had the opportunity to have a virtual meeting with Hazrat Amirul Momineenaa. This was the second in a series of three virtual mulaqats. Sadr Lajna Imaillah UK had the honour to attend this virtual mulaqat from Huzoor’saa office in Islamabad. Midlands and North regions’ mulaqats were cancelled due to worsening Covid conditions in July. We were all, therefore, surprised, elated and overwhelmed when Huzooraa kindly rescheduled the dates. It was most endearing and amazing to witness the love and care Huzooraa holds for his Jamaat, be they Lajna, Nasirat or any other person belonging to his Jamaat. We began to organise under sadr Lajna Imaillah UK’s guidance by liaising with regional president, Iftikhar un Nisa Sahiba to send out organisational procedures to all local presidents which, masha-Allah, were promptly and efficiently done. Two weeks before the mulaqat, Iftikhar un Nisa Sahiba forwarded all three regions a Google form for registration for Nasirat aged 13-15. We received around 70 responses. On the day of the mulaqat, we departed from London a little after 6 am, and reached safely by 8:30 am having already written a letter to Huzooraa for prayers for a blessed event and a safe journey. Nasirat were to arrive between 9-9:30 am for registration. It was surprising to see breakfast, tea and snacks all ready and organised for girls, guests and organisers. According to National Sadr Sahiba’s instructions, all girls were to have done their lateral flow Covid tests on the morning of the mulaqat and results to be sent to their sadrs. As we went into the hall to check on
how things were going, we saw that MTA had already placed the chairs on laid out carpets, one-metre apart. Nasirat who were to recite tilawat, tarana and those asking questions had to go through rehearsals in the hall to ensure the smooth running of MTA. This also meant to know how to deal with the mic and lowering their masks when speaking and to be clearer in speech. This took around two hours. They were understandably quite nervous. Finally, as the MTA team was satisfied that all was well, we were told to be on standby. We waited with bated breath. Suddenly, the screen came to life! It was as if a light switch had been turned on and the nur emanated the entire hall. One could sense the feeling surely felt by everyone. I couldn’t move and was unable to respond to Huzoor’s salaam. It took a good few seconds to know what was going on as I slurred and mumbled! Alhamdulillah, all the girls performed very well, in fact, better than during the rehearsals. What an amazing opportunity, to be mesmerised in the love radiating from Huzooraa for his nasirat. I am sure Huzoor’s smiles and tender words will never be erased from the nasirat’s hearts for as long as they live. Huzoor’s answers to questions seemed to satisfy them as we noticed they responded to Huzooraa when he explained a point. From climate change efforts to writing to Huzooraa regularly in order to feel special, Huzooraa guided them. Afterwards, they said it seemed as if they were actually physically in Huzoor’s presence. What more could one wish for! Iftikhar un Nisa Sahiba, Regional Sadr Lajna Imaillah Midlands, said: “Masha-Allah, nearly all the nasirat turned up well before the given time which again showed how excited and eager they were for this special moment […] During
the session, it was amazing to see how confident our girls were while asking a variety of questions. It was so nice to see Huzooraa on the screen in his relaxed manner and with a beautiful smile which put all our nasirat at ease. It was such a blessing to be sitting in that hall listening to Huzooraa while he was answering questions in a very kind and loving way. MashaAllah, our girls were very fortunate to have the opportunity of this virtual mulaqat.” Below are the impressions from the Nasirat: Nabeeha Saeed from Peterborough said: “I think the mulaqat was a special experience because Huzooraa explains things in a very good way which is easy for us to understand.” Aleesha Saleem from Birmingham South said: “I felt really happy to see Huzooraa after a long time, and it felt so special to hear him and see him. I couldn’t help but smile whenever Huzooraa smiled […] It was really special, and I felt really happy. I learned that Huzooraa used to be a quiet person when he was younger, but now, masha-Allah, he is very confident and grateful for God’s blessings; he is absolutely wonderful!” Farhana from Walsall said: “I thought the mulaqat was really interesting because Huzooraa gave his honest opinion about different things and we learned about things that we might not have known before. I learned that if you are not even a waqifa-e-nau, you can still serve the Jamaat.” Hiba Bhatti from Leamington Spa said: “I enjoyed this mulaqat so much. It was so good to see Huzooraa addressing us all and answering all the questions so beautifully. About climate change, I learned that we should plant two trees every year, and to try to ride bikes, as well as walk
to school and not use cars whenever you go somewhere close-by.” Ashra Safi from Milton Keynes said: “I really enjoyed the mulaqat, even though it was virtual.” Sakeena Bonsu from Leicester said: “I really enjoyed the virtual mulaqat with Huzooraa, since we hadn’t had one for so long as it had been postponed”. Hajra Malik from Leicester said: “It was a really good opportunity for me to be here in the presence of Huzooraa, and I felt as if I was in front of him. Something I learned from the mulaqat is how I can make changes to my life, like doing tilawat every day, which I will now make time to do every day.” Amtul Basit Sahar from Birmingham Central said: “I really liked the mulaqat, and I enjoyed being able to see Huzooraa. I got to learn many things like you should not keep dogs inside the house, but you should take them out for (walks).” Leza Aimal from Birmingham West said: “I really enjoyed this virtual mulaqat with Huzooraa. Although it was virtual, I think it was a very surreal moment. I got to ask a question. It was a great opportunity, so I am very elated and just very joyful.” Basma Rafeeq from Birmingham South said: “I really liked this virtual mulaqat as I got to learn so much from Huzooraa about the questions we asked, and we got to hear Huzoor’s voice which was really nice, and it was good to see Huzooraa.” Hibatul Kabeer Sara from Birmingham North said: “I really enjoyed the mulaqat with Huzooraa after not seeing Huzooraa for over three years. I got to speak to him, and talk to him directly; I couldn’t believe it”. Qainat Zaheer from Birmingham North said: “The class was my first, and I was very nervous, but after hearing Huzooraa, I was comforted […] I was so happy with the answer too.” Sabaha Ali from Luton said: “The class went very well, and just to be in the presence of Huzooraa felt really amazing after so long not seeing Huzooraa. Huzooraa made everyone laugh and it was such a nice occasion. All the questions were beautifully answered by Huzooraa and it was just so special.” Tooba Daud from West Midlands said: “Being in this class is such a blessing, especially seeing Huzooraa after such a long period of time. Just sitting and looking at Huzooraa was amazing.” Sophia Chauhdry said: “I learned how simple and easy it is to follow my religion.” The nasirat who had the opportunity to recite tarana – Sakina, Hajra, Memuna and Alishba from Leicester – said: “We had the great opportunity to recite a tarana before beloved Huzooraa. Before, during our practice, we felt nervous and were scared about making mistakes. Once we began reciting the tarana, we felt it went really well […] Seeing Huzooraa after such a long time felt really wonderful.”

Hurricane Ida: American Ahmadi youth and Humanity First USA conduct disaster relief Abdul Naseer Malmi Kakkada Mohtamim Khidmat-e-Khalq, MKA USA
Hurricane Ida made landfall in the state of Louisiana with maximum sustained winds of 150 miles per hour. As the storm moved inland, it brought tornadoes and heavy flooding in cities such as Philadelphia and New York in the Northeast of the US. As of now, a total of 96 confirmed deaths have taken place in the USA due to Hurricane Ida and caused over $50 billion in damages. With many families experiencing heavy damages and in need of assistance, volunteers of Majlis Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya USA and Humanity First USA were able to assist them in this crisis. Immediately after the Hurricane subsided, a team of 15 volunteers visited New Orleans, Louisiana and provided aid
to affected families. Even though there was no electricity for multiple weeks after the hurricane, the volunteers sacrificed their personal comforts to serve the needy. The volunteers distributed water and food items, helped elderly and destitute homeowners with cleaning up their homes through activities such as cleaning up collapsed ceilings, roof repairs, mould remediation, etc. Alhamdulillah, over the course of three weeks 39 volunteers have assisted 101 families in Louisiana and Pennsylvania, worked 287 hours and distributed over 1,200 food and drink items. Majlis Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya USA and Humanity First USA are continuing to recruit more volunteers and sustain our relief efforts for weeks to come. The delight of my eyes Syed Taalay Ahmed Shaheed – Student years
Amtushakoor Tayyaba Ahmed (Umm-e-Taalay – Mother of Taalay)
“Our Lord, grant us of our spouses and children the delight of [our] eyes, and make [each of] us a leader of the righteous.” (Surah al-Furqan, Ch.25: V.75) The verse above teaches us to ask for the delight of our eyes and I am sure, like myself, many Ahmadi mothers have made this request and submission to Allah the Almighty even before they became mothers. By the grace and mercy of Allah, in Taalay’s case, he surpassed any expectations or assumptions I had regarding the fulfilment of his waqf pledge, alhamdulillah. In the words of Hazrat Khalifatul Masih V, may Allah be his Helper: “He fulfilled the pledge he made with me and did justice to it”. (Al Hakam, 3 September 2021, www.alhakam.org/inmemory-of-a-fortunate-taalay-when-taalayactually-means-fortunate/) Both my husband and I are extremely humbled by Taalay’s martyrdom and we are extremely grateful to Allah the Almighty for the blessing of Khilafat-e-Ahmadiyya on our wonderful Jamaat, alhamdulillah. There are two incidents in Taalay’s formative years, when he was a teenager, which I would like to share with readers of Al Hakam as I think they are not only interesting, but also inspiring in a way that can help others to confidently deal with modern-day societal challenges.
Syed Taalay Ahmed at nursery
As a child Taalay was an extremely intelligent child from a very young age. He had an excellent memory and as mentioned by beloved Huzooraa in his Friday Sermon of 3 September, Taalay learnt a number of chapters of the Holy Quran from part 30 when he was only three years old. In those days there used to be free dinosaur toys that came with breakfast cereal boxes and a new dinosaur toy would be Taalay’s reward once he had learnt a new surah (chapter). I remember telling my mother which chapters he had learnt and she was surprised and perhaps a little
sceptical until she heard him recite them herself. As Taalay grew older and began going to nursery, and then school, his speech and language skills seemed extraordinary. He loved to talk, play word games and rhymes. I remember a surprising conversation with him when he came back from nursery. We lived in Abu Dhabi at the time and spoke Urdu in our home, although being from the UK, I had taught Taalay English too. However, English could be said to be more of a second language for him at the time. One day, he returned home; again, he was around three or four. He retold me what had happened in nursery that day and that his teacher, “Miss Karen” had played a word game with him in which she would say a word and Taalay would have to find another matching word, e.g. if she said “sock”, he would say “shoe”; if she said “leg”, he would say “arm”. Taalay recited what seemed to be the whole game word-for-word and I noted that not only had he been very successful at the game with his teacher, he also seemed to remember the whole sequence. Once, in primary school, Taalay began to also show an incredible ability with numbers. In fact, in later years, I realised the fact that he could complete mathematical calculations in his head without even sometimes knowing how he did this, meaning he did not need to write or learn methods the way most students

do – which actually was of detriment by the time he reached A levels as all students need to show their methods by that stage to gain marks! English Martyr’s Sixth Form College Head Student However, it was during his time as a student at English Martyr’s Sixth Form College that he became head student and there is one remarkable incident during his time at college that I have thought about many times and would like to narrate for the benefit of readers, particularly teenage students who may experience similar challenges during their student years. As those of us who do not aspire to achieve the mantle of head student in our school and college years know, becoming head student is no mean feat. It requires policy suggestions, a successful campaign and a high level of confidence and popularity, all of which Taalay was blessed with, by the grace of Allah. The role comes with a range of responsibilities, of course, and it was a few weeks later that Taalay broached the topic of the annual college party, which was a long-standing tradition that required the presence of the head student. Taalay explained to me that the party would take place in a nightclub and although he did not desire to go there, it was his duty to attend and welcome the other students. He suggested that after he had welcomed everyone, he would return home quickly. What happened that evening has always been a source of happiness and amazement to me. When Taalay arrived at the nightclub, surprisingly, all the students were standing outside. The owner of the club, although knowing the club had been booked for the night and paid for, had realised that all the

students, barring four, were still 17 years old. Therefore, the nightclub (which only allowed people over the age of 18 years in) needed to get some further permissions before the sixth formers were allowed in. Whilst everyone was outside of the nightclub, Taalay was able to greet all his friends and year-mates as head boy. Not only this, as was always his way, he lightheartedly entertained them with a few jokes etc., before returning home. It was only after Taalay had left that the rest of the year group was allowed to go into the
nightclub! This incident demonstrates how Allah the Almighty finds ways and means to save his loved ones from harmful company and the more Allah loves someone, the more He protects them, alhamdulillah. Queen Mary University London The second incident that I wish to mention happened as Taalay began his biomedical sciences degree at Queen Mary University in London. Making new friends in a new environment provides a support system
for students beginning a new independent phase of life. Such friends have an important place, providing company and support in free time and during study hours. This was also the case for Taalay. Having moved from his home and familiar surroundings and friendships in Hartlepool in the North East, he was now in East London, a completely unfamiliar place for him and he was glad when he made a friend (I think he was called Alan). Alan, who was a great support in many ways, however, also wished for Taalay to accompany him on some of the get-togethers and parties that the other students were enjoying. Taalay had politely declined all such invitations. Until one occasion. I found out what had happened one evening at the end of October 2008. Taalay rang me as he was sitting on the London Underground on the way to Southfields. He explained that as Alan had requested him so many times to accompany him to parties, finally, just to pacify him, he had agreed to go with him to a party for a short while that evening. “Guess what, Mama!”, he happily exclaimed. “I remembered this evening that Huzooraa was having a family mulaqat and I felt a sudden desire that I must go. (Some informal meetings for the extended family would take place in Huzoor’saa home at that time.) However, once I began the journey, I remembered that today, I had agreed to go to the party for a short while with Alan. Now I’ll just have to explain to him I forgot!” Taalay sounded very happy and content at this turn of events mashaAllah. So, this is what happened the next time Taalay had an innocent plan to go to a party! His love for Hazrat Khalifatul Masih Vaa prevented him from doing something that was not good for him. Through the years that followed, these mulaqats (meetings) with Hazrat

Khalifatul Masih Vaa were the highlight of Taalay’s days. Almost always, after each mulaqat, Taalay would ring his father or I and happily narrate anything Huzooraa had said to him or his family members. As Taalay became more and more occupied with MTA work, or other Jamaat related work, or his personal in-depth research into Islam Ahmadiyyat, I learnt that Taalay’s time and attention was more and more precious. Yet after each mulaqat, sometimes, even fairly late at night, the phone would ring and Taalay’s excitement was, by the grace of Allah, irrepressible. There is an incident recorded about the Holy Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, when he was a youth and he set off to attend an evening gathering of the style of those times. It is likely the gathering would not have been according to the dignity of our beloved Holy Prophetsa, so slumber overtook him and he woke up in the morning to find he had missed the event. (Tarikh al-Tabari, Vol. 2, p. 207, Babu Dhikri Rasulillahisa wa Asbabihi [Darul-Fikr, Beirut, Lebanon, 2002]) It is surely a source of delight to parents like myself reading this that the blessings bestowed by Allah the Almighty on His Chosen Holy Prophet Muhammad Rasulullahsa are also bestowed to this day on his humble followers, particularly those that have joined the beautiful Jamaat of his Ardent Devotee, the Promised Messiah, peace be upon him. May Allah continue to shower such blessings on our son in Heaven and on this wonderful and blessed community, that is Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya. Amin. “Znanje je svjetlost” – Knowledge is enlightenment: Humanity First Croatia assists children starting school Rana Munawwar Muhammad President Jamaat Croatia
Humanity First Hrvatska (Croatia) had the opportunity to assist and support children attending the new school year 2021/22. This project has been running in Croatia for many years and is part of the global initiative “Knowledge for life” of Humanity First International to provide education in various forms to poor and unprivileged children around the world. Humanity First Croatia is very active in this initiative and has dedicated a separate sub-project in this category with the name “Znanje je svjetlost” (knowledge is enlightenment). The aim of this project is to equip children at the start of the new school year with necessary school stationery items. Many researchers and professionals have put forward the argument that one of the most effective tools to put an end to poverty and to accelerate the state of wellbeing of a country is to provide education to its citizen. This is why Humanity First – through this project – wants to bring light in those houses where, otherwise, darkness has built its nest. In terms of implementing the project, Humanity First is cooperating with other local organisations as well as schools to make this project come true. An essential part for the project to be successful is good communication with the school stationery suppliers. We are very grateful to Narodne Novine who provides us reasonable offers for the purchase of school items necessary to prepare good quality school essentials for children. This, in addition, allows us to expand the list of children we can help. Once the list of schools and needy children is approved, school items are bought and packed. These essential school packets include over 25 items from pens, pencils, erasers, coloring pencils and even scissors and are divided in four categories: 1-4th grade girls; 1-4th grade boys; 5-8th grade girls; 5-8th grade boys. Our usual feedback about these packets is that many consider them to be Christmas presents. This, in fact, fulfills the intention of Humanity First that these school presents should create a warm and pleasant atmosphere and bring joy to the children who otherwise are stuck in problems in school or their homes. The start of the Humanity First school stationery donation marathon took place on 19 August 2021 at the Kuća sv. Josipa za nezbrinutu djecu (orphan house) in Leskovac, and was held on 19 August 2021.
The orphan house received a school bag and 13 school stationery packets. Sister Katarina Pisković the director of the orphan house said: “The beginning of the school and pedagogical year is always a bit stressful for us because we know that 26 pupils and four students need to be equipped for school and studies. Many times we have witnessed that God cares for His little ones and always finds ways to help them. We have experienced many times that you have stood by us and raised the quality of life in our homes in various ways. We would like to sincerely thank you for your support and material assistance by the donation of school supplies.” The second stop of this journey was at the Kuća za zbrinjavanje djece i odraslih osoba s tjelesnim i mentalnim oštećenjem Bl. Alojzije Stepinac (house for children with physical and mental health issues) in Brezovica. Humanity First provided them with 35 school bags. All school bags were donated to the students while taking into consideration their class and their gender, to make them feel more comfortable in school. Kuća Brezovica wrote on their Facebook: “A GIFT TO SCHOOL CHILDREN – Once someone remembers you, it is wonderful, but when someone often thinks of you and takes care of you, it is really something special. So, our dear friends and neighbours from Humanity First remembered us and made sure to give our students who attend school, beautiful and quality school bags. Thank you for helping us to make visiting school as joyful as possible [...] thank you very much to Mrs Marina for being always by our side and to be with us here today.” The third stop was at the elementary school Soblinec, on 13 September 2021. In total 48 children received school packets, five school bags and all of them were given t-shirts. The school director, Mrs Leonida Udovičić said: “At the end of last school year, we were pleased with the enquiry from the organisation Humanity First if we want to receive a donation of humanitarian supplies for our students. We quickly called the parents of the students and got their consents to participate in this project. On Monday, September 13, 2021, 48 packages of school supplies, five school bags and 53 t-shirts for sports were donated to the school. These are packets that include notebooks, writing utensils, art supplies, geometric accessories,
etc. We thank the organisation Humanity First Croatia for helping us to make students happy with these beautiful packages this year and making it a little easier for parents to buy supplies at the start of the new school year.” Then, we headed towards the elementary school in Kašina, on 15 September 2021. They received eight school packets with t-shirts. A very interesting feature of our arrival in the school was that during our stay we were under constant observation of the young and talented journalists who in addition recorded a small interview of the Humanity First members and published their hard work on their school web page. Here is an extract: “Two volunteers visited us who brought with them a dozen packages containing notebooks, pens, crayons […] mostly school supplies, and later took photos with the students. The principal of our school, Vladimir Vuger, welcomed them with a speech in which he thanked them for the nice gesture for our students. Dorotea Sudar, Lana Đurković and Malena Hrustić interviewed the volunteers who visited the Vugrovec-Kašina Elementary School today […] We are very grateful for the gifts that Humanity First Croatia gave us this year. I hope that they will come to us again and
that Zmajček‘s journalists will be able to interview them again.” Our fifth stop was at the elementary school in Horvati, on 14 September 2021. Here we could help seven students to get equiped with school stationery and t-shirts with Humanity First Logo for their sports classes. Our final destination was marked at the elementary school in Brezovica, on 15 September 2021. In total 80 school packets with t-shirts were donated to the school. The school staff started the distribution the day after. The director of the school, Darko Rogalo said: “Even though the day was illuminated by the sun yesterday, happiness was driven even more by the children’s smiles because they saw that someone was thinking of them. Thank you up to the heaven.” I hope that by these humanitarian efforts of Humanity First Croatia we could motivate others to step up and look for possibilities to give shelter to the needy living in their neighbourhood. I would like to request the readers of Al Hakam to pray for the donors from all around the world, specifically from Germany who financed this very humble donation.

He had special expertise in criminal cases. In 1923, he was elected as a member of the legislative council. As municipal commissioner of Nairobi, he rendered outstanding services to the welfare of his Indian brethren.
Malik Sahibra used to proudly say that once, as a child, he was in the company of the Promised Messiahas and Huzooras said to him, “You will progress.” Malik Sahibra said, “Seeing my parents’ financial difficulties and family poverty, I used to wonder how this would be possible. However, God gave me the opportunity to become a barrister under unexpected circumstances. I then became a member of the legislative council and was called ‘Honourable’. For a poor man like me, this progress is nothing short of a miracle.” (Al Fazl, 19 June 1935) Malik Muhammad Hussain Sahibra passed away on 4 April 1935, when he was around 48 years old. Many dignitaries, including the chief justice, high court judges and lawyers, attended his funeral. Below is a report by Hazrat Malik Muhammad Hussainra:
Newspaper cuttings of the Eid-ul-Adha gathering in 1921 from the Birmingham Gazette (left) and the Daily Mirror (right)
Hazrat Malik Muhammad Hussainra (Circa 1887-1935) Dear Editor Al Fazl [newspaper], assalamo alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu! Eid-ul-Adha was celebrated here [in London] on Sunday, 14 August [1921]. Apart from Ahmadi brothers, newly converted European friends attended the Eid prayer as well. Moreover, non-Muslim gentlemen and
ladies were also present. Maulvi Mubarak Ali Sahib delivered the sermon and made it so interesting that the audience thoroughly enjoyed it. During the sermon, Maulvi Sahib shed light on the reality and real purpose of the sacrifice in a very comprehensive manner. I informed you in a previous letter that educated Englishmen are being preached to. Today, I received a letter from one of them,
which I am sending [with this report]. All praise belongs to Allah that this young man has converted to Islam and joined the Ahmadiyya Jamaat! This gentleman was a Roman Catholic. He works as an engineer and is a very noble young man. Friends are requested to pray for his perseverance. Apart from them, a Russian is being preached to as well and hopefully, in a week or so, you will be given the good news
about him as well. Maulvi Mubarak Ali Sahib and other friends give lectures etc. and a series of meetings are also being held on a regular basis. On the day of Eid, Seith Jeevan Ji Sahib, who is an influential Seith, along with Mr Verma Sahib, Barrister from Nairobi, Africa, Continued on next page >>

visited the mosque as a delegate on behalf of the Indians. He saw the proposed sketch of the mosque and for a long time, talked to Maulvi Mubarak Ali about the Ahmadiyya Jamaat. He emphatically said, “You [the Ahmadiyya Jamaat] should establish your mission in Africa, i.e. East Africa. It is important to give Islamic education to the people there.” We are very grateful to Allah that this time there was considerable gathering on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha. Another thing that is very interesting is that on the day we were celebrating Eid, at a mission conference on that day, a famous priest, the Dean of Carlyle, invalidated the divinity of Christ in his address. This [announcement] caused a stir in the whole Christian world. The newspapers of that place have described it in a very strange way. A couple of newspapers recorded photos of our Eid prayer and sermon, and wrote, “The strange thing today was that Muslims were praying here and Christianity was bombed by the Dean of Carlyle. What a strange incident and coincidence.” […] Letter of Mr Edward Bacon “Dear brother! I thank you for your kindness in sending me your sermon to read. You will be very happy to learn that from today, you may consider me your Muslim brother. It has been almost six months since I got to know about Ahmadiyyat and I am very happy about that. Some of the thoughts that were in my heart during that period of time will not be without interest to you: “When I first came to visit the mosque, I was dissatisfied at that time with the religion that has been taught to me, and I had doubts in my heart about the Roman Catholic teaching, which used to disturb me. I also examined other sects of Christianity, but they proved so futile that I had to abandon all forms of Christianity and follow the Roman Catholic teaching. “On the other hand, after regularly visiting the mosque, I felt that my efforts were coming to fruition. My conversation with you and Mr Sayal, and recently with Mr Augusto, made me realise that Islam is certainly a supreme religion which helps in achieving spiritual progress. Gradually, the teachings of Islam penetrated my soul. “Suddenly, my old beliefs vanished, and without any effort on my part, this process, which happened naturally, did its work on me. Instead of those false beliefs, the truth of Islam came to me and I now have a true and firm belief in the truth of Islam. I think that if, now, I continue to be a so-called member of another religion for any further extent, then it will be an insult to the grace and mercy of God Almighty. “The Almighty God has shown me the truth and righteousness and it is incumbent upon me to accept this truth with gratitude. “Brother Sayal gave me a small green Salat book and I prayed as per its instructions from time to time. However, this week, I have been praying regularly since Monday. I am very grateful that according to the instructions given in the book, I can perform ablutions properly. I have felt the positive effects [of Salat] on me since last Sunday. “I thank you and all the other brethren for the kindness with which you have
patiently and steadfastly shown me the way to this great blessing, which is the greatest thing for mortal men, i.e. [the path] of truth and righteousness, but I am sure you won’t be too surprised. “Wassalam, Your Edward A Bacon “[PS]: We will meet on Sunday, inshaAllah! [From, Hazrat Malik Muhammad Hussainra (Barrister-at-law), London. 18 August 1921] “Mecca in London” The London newspaper, Daily Graphic, along with giving two separate pictures of the occasion of the Eid prayer and the sermon at the Ahmadiyya Mosque in London, under the above-mentioned headline, in its issue of 15 August [1921], states: “One of the most remarkable services
which took place yesterday was the celebrating of the feast of Eed-uz-Zuha in a garden at Southfields, where eighteen Muhammadans assembled, and, after carefully so arranging the carpets on the grass that the worshippers should face the east, heard prayers read in Arabic and then a sermon in English. “Two or three Muslims were wearing turbans. A native African [was also present]. The general invitation was given through announcements in which these words were published that, ‘Everyone is invited wholeheartedly.’ “What a strange sight it was when Mecca was [seen] in London. The announcements also had these words that, ‘The nearest station to Southfields and East Putney, District Railway Bus Number: 30-14-85-9638, Tram Number: 82.’
“All sorts of faiths and demonstrations were represented, one of the men present being a spiritualist. They watched the coloured people performing the ceremonies of their religion with the greatest interest. Sometimes they had to wait while the sermon was stopped due to the noise of the passing train. “Lord Headley was the only Muslim peer to attend the ceremonies at Woking. “The heavy and laden branches of the fruit trees of Southfield Garden drew our attention to the strange contrast between the swaying palm leaves and the shining minarets of the holy city of Mecca, where the thoughts of all Muslims were united once.” (Translated by Al Hakam from the original in the 26 September 1921 issue of Al Fazl)
Three missionaries successfully complete #AskAMuslim tour of Sweden Kashif Virk Missionary, Sweden
Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya Sweden conducted another tour of Sweden with its campaigns #FrågaEnMuslim (#AskAMuslim) and #MessiasHarKommit (#MessiahHasCome), this time in the southern parts of the country. Three missionaries, Agha Yahya Khan Sahib (missionary in-charge), Rizwan Afzal Sahib and Kashif Virk Sahib, travelled between 21 and 27 August 2021 and covered a total of 2,600 kilometres. The caravan prepared by Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya Sweden has a large photo of the Promised Messiahas which can be seen from far, alongside the motto “Love for All, Hatred for None” written in bold text. A total of seven events were arranged at central locations in six different cities. The tour received extensive coverage in Swedish media; print, online, social media, radio and on television. Before the trip, two interviews and one article were published in the local papers Sydöstran and Blekinge Läns Tidning, informing the general public about the upcoming trip. The journey itself was covered by 11 media outlets. Some also published the picture of the Promised Messiahas. Many who visited the stalls were informed about it through the media. Thus, the message of Islam Ahmadiyyat and this campaign reached far and wide, alhamdulillah. Visitors mainly enquired about our take on the dire situation in Afghanistan, as well as women rights, sharia law and integration. There is also a growing awareness among the public about Islam Ahmadiyyat and its peaceful approach. Meetings were also held with local Church vicars and representatives of three cities, as well as the mayor of Kalmar city. The purpose of the campaign was explained and it received appreciation. Copies of the
Holy Quran with Swedish translation were presented as a gift. Local members of Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya Sweden in several cities provided admirable assistance, and readers of Al Hakam are
requested to pray that Allah the Almighty rewards them with manifold blessings. Please pray that may Allah enable us to spread the teachings of true Islam to the whole population of our country. Amin.

A young man’s journey with the Messenger of Allah If we dissect this hadith, there are many lessons that we can learn and adopt into our daily lives.
Serjeel Ahmed Missionary, Federated States of Micronesia There is no doubt that every moment of the life of the Holy Prophet Muhammadsa is one which a Muslim can model their life after. From the way he spoke to how he smiled, every word and action unfolded a vast source of lessons in unlocking Allah’s love in one’s life. As Muslims, we often read of the life and sayings of the Prophetsa with immense love, and our souls yearn to become like the companions who were shaped from ordinary men and women to those with prophetic qualities. The beauty of studying the life and sayings of the Holy Prophetsa allows every Muslim man and woman to place themselves into the position of the Companionsra and feel as if they are sitting and listening to the words of our beloved Master. Though more than 1,500 years have passed between us and the Holy Prophetsa, Islam’s teachings help us be among the Companionsra and, in essence, be of those lucky men and women who surrounded the Prophetsa. A striking hadith which evokes remarkable thought is narrated by the cousin of the Holy Prophetsa, Hazrat Abdullahra ibn Abbas. Today, this beloved companion is known to be one of the greatest mufassireen, or scholars of the commentary of the Holy Quran, yet in this particular hadith, he was a young man. Fortunate enough to travel alongside the Holy Prophetsa, he gained countless wisdom which would remain evergreen for all Muslims to come. Take yourself back to the deserts of Arabia and imagine yourself riding on a mount behind the Messengersa of Allah. As Hazrat Abdullahra ibn Abbas rode behind him, the Holy Prophetsa addressed his young cousin and said: “O young man, I shall teach you some words [of advice].” Now think to yourself to be there in that moment, and absorb the words as if he was addressing you. The Holy Prophetsa beautifully advised: “Be mindful of Allah, and Allah will protect you. Be mindful of Allah, and you will find Him in front of you. If you ask, then ask Allah [alone]; and if you seek help, then seek help from Allah [alone]. And know that if the nation were to gather together to benefit you with anything, they would not benefit you except with what Allah had already prescribed for you. And if they were to gather together to harm you with anything, they would
Find Allah! We spend so much of our time absorbed in the life of this world. We think that when we achieve a particular milestone, we will begin our journey to find Allah. Time begins to pass and rather than finding His presence, we seek comfort in artificial protection. In this cloud of convenience, we continue to live our lives right up to the point before it’s too late. The life of this world escapes from us like a mirage and nothing but regret remains. In the very first part of this hadith, the Prophetsa of Allah reminds the young Hazrat Abdullahra ibn Abbas that if one only reaches out and starts to become mindful of His presence, “you will find Him right in front of you.” When we become Allah’s, He becomes sufficient for us, providing His protection and bounties in ways that no human or resource of this life can. It reminds us of the foundational teachings of the Holy Quran: “And when My servants ask thee about Me, [say]: I am near. I answer the prayer of the supplicant when he prays to Me. So they should hearken to Me and believe in Me, that they may follow the right way.” (Surah al-Baqarah, Ch.2: V.187) Sticking by Allah, no matter if life is tough or easy
not harm you except with what Allah had already prescribed against you. The pens have been lifted and the pages have dried.” It is narrated that Prophet Muhammadsa further said: “Be mindful of Allah and you will find Him in front of you. Recognise and acknowledge Allah in times of ease and prosperity and He will remember you in times of adversity. And know that what has passed you by [and you have failed to attain] was not going to befall you, and what has befallen you was not going to pass you by. And know that victory comes
with patience, relief with affliction and hardship with ease.” (Jami‘ al-Tirmidhi, Abwaab Sifat-ul-Qayimah, Hadiqat-usSalihin, p.148) How lucky was Hazrat Abdullahra ibn Abbas to sit in the company of the Holy Prophetsa and hear those words, and how lucky are we to read the words of our beloved Prophetsa. In those few moments in the company of the Holy Prophetsa, Hazrat Abdullahra ibn Abbas was the recipient of words that move the soul and are foundations for a Muslim striving in faith.
It is a long-seen practice that man fails to uphold all the responsibilities that are due to Him and quickly forgets God during times of happiness. Only when he is backed up against a wall and has no way of escape does he call out to God and remember Him once more. Here, the Holy Prophetsa gave a powerful reminder that a faithful servant of Allah is he who remembers Allah when blessed with any good and upholds his friendship with Him. When he remembers Allah during the good times in His life, Allah begins to love him and protects him no matter how big or strong the enemy or problem. Allah reminds the believers in the Holy Quran: “Allah is the Friend of those who believe: He brings them out of every [kind of] darkness into light. Those who disbelieve, their friends are those who hinder people from following the right path; they bring them out of light into every [kind of] darkness. These are the inmates of the Fire; therein shall they abide.” (Surah al-Baqarah, Ch.2: V.258) Continued on next page >>

Understanding a greater cause in one’s victories and failures During the life of a believer, one pursues many doors of opportunities in the way of success. Though one may struggle in a certain cause, it sometimes happens that the door is closed on the person. Rather than becoming disheartened at his minor failure, a believer understands that like a child who may want to touch fire, Allah knows better which doors of opportunity are better for us, and which may harm us. Thus, a believer remains content in knowing that whichever doors open for him are the blessings of Allah and the doors which remain closed are either from their lack of trying, or are a blessing by which Allah will grant them something greater. The Prophetsa was once sitting with his Companions when he saw a woman who anxiously searched for her child. When she found him, she held him to her chest and began to feed him. The Holy Prophetsa looked at her and said, “Do you think that this mother could ever throw her child in the fire?” The Companions immediately proclaimed, saying she could never. The Holy Prophetsa then said, “Allah is more merciful to His servants than this mother is to her child.” (Sahih al-Bukhari) A believer should always remain content that Allah will always guide towards what is best, for He is the Best of Planners. Secret ingredient to success Today’s world is struggling to find an easy way to succeed and is constantly misled by seeming shortcuts to success. Yet the Holy Prophetsa has given us the most excellent ingredient to success. If one truly wishes to be victorious in every facet of life, it’s crucial that instead of finding a shortcut to success, they strive to attain a patient and steadfast demeanour and should come to accept that on the path to success, a believer must face trials and tribulations which mould their soul and body towards becoming a successful servant of God. Though the path to success may be arduous, a believer always remembers that Allah grants ease after every hardship, and in his prayers to Allah the Almighty, relishes in the words of prophet Mosesas: “Seek help from Allah and be steadfast. Verily, the earth is Allah’s; He gives it as a heritage to whomsoever He pleases of His servants, and the end is for the Godfearing.” (Surah al-A‘raf, Ch.7: V.129) These inferred lessons are but a mere example of the guidance one can derive from the beautiful words of Prophet Muhammadsa. It is for a believer to always remember Allah and turn to His guidance whenever he is lost, for Allah will always guide him. In turning to the Holy Quran and the Prophetsa who lived his life in accordance to it, we will constantly be advancing towards the love of Allah the Almighty. These commandments are meant for us as believers to resonate with our lives, for they are intended to apply for every age and time.

Daily diary of Hazrat Khalifatul Masih II: Speech at Yaripora, Kashmir on the truth of Islam Ahmadiyyat and explanation of mubahala Al Fazl, 22 and 26 September 1921
Hazrat Khalifatul Masih[ra] in Kashmir On the morning of 7 September [1921], preparations were made for departing to Srinagar and we left at 11:30 am. Almost all the villagers came along to bid farewell to Hazrat Khalifatul Masih[ra]. It started raining at the time of departure and Ahmadi friends from Yaripora repeatedly requested Huzoor[ra] to pass through their village on his way back and return to Srinagar by river. Thus, Huzoor[ra] left for Yaripora. The Ahmadi friends from Yaripora had come far out [of their village] to greet Hazrat Khalifatul Masih[ra]. After reaching the boundary of the village, Huzoor[ra], along with all friends present, prayed for a long time and then entered the village.
On the morning of 8 [September 1921], Huzoor[ra] had a high fever and a severe headache. The honourable mother of Mian Nasir Ahmad Sahib[rh] also got fever again and by 12 o’clock, her temperature rose to 104 °F. The jamaat there requested Huzoor[ra] to give a speech. Even though he was unwell, Huzoor[ra] accepted their request. Hence, the entire caravan was sent forward and three of us stayed with Huzoor[ra]. Hazrat Khalifatul Masih[ra] spoke for around one hour and 45 minutes. The number of attendees was around 125. [In his speech], Huzoor[ra] proved Islam to be a living religion in comparison to all other religions. Hazrat Khalifatul Masih[ra] said that the followers of every religion
considered themselves to be on the right path, but when asked what was the proof of the truth of their religion, they could not say anything. Consequently, it is generally observed that people accept a religion because they are born in that religion. The followers of some religions present the miracles of the past as proof of the authenticity of their religion. In this way, each religion presents more and more miracles as compared to others, and some religions only make future promises, for instance, that they shall be granted Paradise. Even the so-called Muslims of today have nothing but the past miracles or the promise of Paradise as proof of the truth of Islam. In this way, they have made
themselves appear like other religions. We [Ahmadis] claim that Islam is a living religion and that the Promised Messiahas appeared and proved that even today, God Almighty grants His servants the honour of His communication. Then, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih[ra] briefly shed light on the life of the Holy Prophetsa and explained how the Holy Prophetsa was born in a state of despair and how he was disgusted with shirk [attributing partners to Allah] from his very childhood. Moreover, his life, before prophethood, was a model for all the people of Mecca. After his claim of prophethood, all the Arabs united against him, but he prevailed over all of them and uprooted idolatry in such a way that neither its name nor any sign is to be seen till today. Then, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih[ra] provided a brief look at the life of the Promised Messiahas. Huzoor[ra] described how he used to live in seclusion since childhood and would spend most of his time in the worship of Allah. Moreover, his claim to be the Messiah, the unification of the whole world against him, the destruction of his enemies, his victory over them, [the fulfilment of] his prophecies, signs and miracles, and the spread of his Jamaat all over the world etc. were all things that proved he was sent from God. The same arguments which prove the authenticity of the other prophets also substantiate the truthfulness of the Promised Messiahas. Thereafter, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih announced two nikahs. Then we rode on horses and joined our caravan at around five o’clock. Many friends of Asnoor Jamaat came along to Mauza Arain and Huzoor[ra] prayed for all of them and while parting, they started crying out of love. We embarked on boats at around 6 o’clock and left for Srinagar from Mauza Arain. Before sunset, the fever of the honourable mother of Mian Nasir Ahmad Sahib[ra] subsided completely and the boats continued to sail throughout the night. On 9 [September 1921], Huzoor[ra] had a slight fever and reached Srinagar at six o’clock in the evening. Continued on next page >>

On 10 [September 1921], Hazrat Khalifatul Masih[ra] was not feeling well. After Asr prayer, Huzoor[ra] continued to sit in the majlis [gathering] till Maghrib prayer and even after Maghrib, he spoke for a long time. On 11 [September 1921], although Huzoor[ra] was not feeling well (may Allah shower His grace on him), after Asr, Huzoor[ra] said that the consumption of meat had become common in our country. Especially among the Muslims, its use had become excessive. This should not happen. It should be used, at most, once a day. Children in particular should be advised to avoid it. All those things you become addicted to are not good [for health]. In the said context, Huzoor[ra] narrated an incident and said: “When I was travelling for Hajj, a Muslim youth was also travelling in the same ship. He was going to England for acquiring education. In general, he had a lot of honour for Islam in his heart and used to offer prayers regularly. However, he was so addicted to meat that he could not live without it at all. As it is doubtful about the meat served in the ship [whether it is halal or haram], I did not eat it. “Once, he asked me as to how one could survive abroad by avoiding it. I said that one could survive on fish or on other things apart from meat. He said that it was impossible for him to stop eating meat, and that if he had to resort to eating pork, he would.” Hazrat Khalifatul Masih remained indoors on 13 [September 1921] following the doctor’s advice. Around the time of Asr, when Maulvi Muhammad Abdullah Sahib, Assistant Governor of Srinagar, came to see Huzoor[ra], Hazrat Khalifatul Masih came downstairs. After discussing his wellbeing, Huzoor[ra] proceeded to talk on the academic situation in Kashmir. Huzoor[ra] then mentioned the rituals there and said that he had advised the people of his Jamaat to stay away from bad rituals. As nightfall approached, Maulvi Sahib left early. After Maghrib prayer, Huzoor[ra] stayed in the Salat room for a long time. After Salat, it started raining heavily and large hailstones started to fall. Huzoor[ra] said that he had heard that hailstones were very useful for fever. Consequently, many kilos of hailstones were collected and Huzoor[ra] and other friends ate them. On this day, Huzoor[ra] had a temperature of around 100 °F. On the morning of 14 [September 1921], Huzoor[ra] took a boat ride in the river with his family. After Asr, Hafiz Nuruddin Sahib, a teacher at the State High School, took bai‘at at the blessed hand of Hazrat Khalifatul Masih[ra] and recited a new poem before Huzoor, which was a combination of the Kashmiri and Persian languages. Thereafter, Maulvi Abdullah Sahib discussed the issue of prophethood and Khilafat with Huzoor[ra] for some time. […] [On 15 September 1921] Hazrat Khalifatul Masih[ra] sat in the prayer room from Zuhr to Isha prayer. Referring to mubahala [prayer duel], Huzoor[ra] said that it was not permissible for everyone. Only
the appointed ones of God or those people who were in the public eye and whose mubahala could help reform people, could do it. Huzoor[ra] explained that the Promised Messiahas had not come to destroy people. He said that [in principle] a mubahala could be held between those persons who had an influence over a very large group of people and the death of one of the two participants could serve as a sign. The Promised Messiahas was challenged by many persons, but he did not pay attention to them because he knew full well that it was not a hujjat [obligation]. Prophets are always very careful. Huzoor[ra] said that he had written a detailed article on mubahala that had not yet been published. Around the time of Maghrib, Dr Allah Bakhsh Sahib came to meet Hazrat Khalifatul Masih[ra] and offered Salat there alongside Huzoor. Maulvi Abdullah Sahib (lawyer) also paid a visit and spoke [to Huzoor(ra)] about Baha‘ism. […] During this tour [of Kashmir], in a divine vision, Huzoor[ra] saw that a letter had come in his name through an aeroplane and the letters A and M were written on the back of the envelope. There was also another letter [on the envelope] which he could not recall. Consequently, by the grace of Allah the Almighty, this vision of Hazrat Khalifatul Masih was fulfilled to the letter. Huzoor[ra] received a letter and there was a stamp on the back of the envelope, on which it was written “By Air Mail” and the friend who sent the letter had also written the same words with his hand. […] On 19 [September 1921], Huzoor[ra] had a high fever. Huzoor[ra] has been diagnosed with a condition called recurrent fever. After Maghrib, a discussion was held for a long time. Huzoor[ra] said, “I saw in a divine vision that I had met two significant men from the ghair mubai‘een [those who refused to take bai‘at of the Second Khalifa]. I said to them, ‘Behold, Allah has told me that whoever holds back from my bai‘at, the pleasure of Salat will be taken away from them.’ “Hearing this, one of them turned his face towards the wall and cried and wailed, saying, ‘By God, I am in this very state now. I do not find any pleasure in Salat.’” A few friends from Mauza Asnoor came to visit Hazrat Khalifatul Masih[ra]. May Allah the Almighty grant them further advancement in their sincerity. On 20 [September 1921], Huzoor[ra] was in relatively good health. Huzoor[ra] went for a walk at around ten o’clock and returned at one o’clock. D Balkshan Sahib Kole spared time for Huzoor[ra] from four to six o’clock, so Huzoor[ra] visited him after four o’clock. […] Hazrat Khalifatul Masih will leave Srinagar for Qadian soon. Therefore, friends writing to Huzoor[ra] from far-off places should send letters to the address of Qadian. I also request prayers from all friends. Humbly yours, Syed Mahmudullah Shah, Srinagar, Kashmir. (Translated by Al Hakam from the original Urdu in the 22 and 26 September 1921 issue of Al Fazl)
“The Caliph loves you, and the entire world knows”: A poem in memory of Syed Taalay Ahmad Rehman Nasir Mohtamim Sehat-e-Jismani, MKA USA
Syed Taalay Ahmed wrote a heartfelt and beautiful poem about his love for Khilafat. Hazrat Khalifatul Masih Vaa referred to this poem in his Friday Sermon on Taalay. Though I did not know Taalay personally, like Ahmadis
across the world, the more I heard about him, the more I fell in love with him and was inspired. In a humble effort, I respond to Taalay and the poem he composed through a poem. Given below is the original poem by Syed Taalay Ahmed and then the response.
Syed Taalay’s heartfelt poem about his love for the Khalifa “I love my Caliph more than the others
“But by God’s promise I’m able to boast
“They only love, I’m only his lover
“I swear I can prove I love him the most
“They crawl to his hand from far icy coasts “A wonderful host, supported by hosts “As mountains migrate for prophets and kings “When heaven comes near they see him and sing
“They truthfully tell, disclosing their love “Humble, he blushes, embarrassed enough “For his weary ears, here surely prefer “Durood and takbirs, Allahu Akbar!
“My silence might grate but I love him more
“So their cue of lovers ends at this line
“Whole with holiness as my soothed soul soars
“I keep my secret for his sake, not mine
“When they see his face they weep and they cry
“The lamp in my night, forever aglow
“My heart beats to tears by my eyes are dry
“I love my Caliph, but he’ll never know”
Response to Taalay “You loved the Caliph more than the others
“You fulfilled your promise, now you’re able to boast
“In a sea of lovers, you were the truest lover
“You proved to the entire world, you love him the most
“We run to his hands from far off coasts
“With mere words is what we express our love
“As we are hosted wonderful hosts

Friday Sermon 27 August 2021 Men of Excellence: Hazrat Umarra ibn al-Khattab After reciting the tashahud, ta‘awuz and Surah al-Fatihah, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih Vaa stated:
Accounts from the life of Hazrat Umarra were being narrated. A battle took place during the era of Hazrat Umarra, which is known as the Battle of Rayy. Rayy is a very well-known mountainous area. It is located at a distance of 480 miles from Nishapur and 51 miles from Qazvin. The inhabitants of Rayy are called by the name “Razi”. The well-known commentator of the Holy Quran, Hazrat Imam Fakhr-ud-Din Razi was from Rayy. Sia Baksh bin Mahran bin Bahram Shubin was the ruler of Rayy. He called [the people of] Dunbawand, Tabaristan, Qumis and Jurjan for help and told them that the Muslims have attacked Rayy. He ordered them to gather in order to confront them, otherwise they would not be able to fend them off individually. Subsequently, the supporting armies from these areas
gathered in Rayy as well. The Muslims were still on route to Rayy, when a Persian chief, Abul-Farkhan Zainabi, approached the Muslims in order to make peace. The reason for this was most probably that he had fallen out with the ruler of Rayy. When the army reached the city, there was a significant disparity between the size of the Muslim army and that of the opposing army. Having observed this, Zainabi said to Nu‘aim, “Send some of your cavalries with me. I will enter the city through a secret passage. You should then launch an attack from outside and the city will be conquered.” Hence, during the night, Nu‘aim bin Muqarrin sent some of his cavalry along with Zainabi, under the command of his nephew, Munzir bin Amr. He himself took his army and launched an attack on the
city. The battle commenced and the enemy firmly stood its ground and fended off the attack. However, when they heard the slogans of the Muslims, who had set off with Zainabi, from behind them, they lost all hope and the Muslims conquered the city. The inhabitants of the city were given a written oath of protection and the words of this agreement were as follows: “In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful. This is the settlement, which Nu‘aim bin Muqarrin gives to Zainabi. He will protect the inhabitants of Rayy and the people in its surroundings on the condition that every adult pays the jizya [tax] according to their capacity and acts in goodness. They should show them the way [for their onward journey] and not be dishonest and deceitful. They should extend their hospitality to the Muslims for
the duration of one day and they should honour them. Whoever abuses a Muslim verbally will be punished and whoever attacks a Muslim will be punished by death.” In any case, this was the settlement and was attested. (Mir Mahmud Ahmad Nasir, Muqala Tarikh-e-Islam bi-Ehd-e-Hazrat Umarra, pp. 170-172) (Muhammad Ibn Jarir al-Tabari, Tarikh al-Tabari, Vol. 2 [Beirut, Lebanon: Dar al-Kutub al-Ilmiyyah, 2012], p. 537) (Yaqut Ibn Abd Allah al-Hamawi, Mu‘jam alBuldan, Vol. 1 [Beirut, Lebanon: Dar Ihya al-Turath al’Arabi], p. 511) (Ibid., Vol. 3, p. 132)
Then, there is the Conquest of Qumis and Jurjan, which took place in the 22 AH. When the emissary informed Hazrat Umarra about the conquest of Rayy, Hazrat Umarra wrote to Nu‘aim bin Muqarrin that he should send his brother, Suwaid bin Muqarrin, in order to conquer Qumis. This city is located between Rayy and

Nishapur, near the end of the mountain range of Tabaristan. The people of Qumis did not oppose them and Suwaid wrote them an oath of protection and reconciliation. Jurjan was situated close by, it was a large city between Tabaristan and Khorasan. The people of Tabaristan also sent their people to Suwaid and they too accepted the treaty on the condition of paying the jizya. Subsequently, Suwaid wrote an oath of protection for the people of the entire area. (Ali Muhammad al-Sallabi, Sirat Ameerul Momineen Umar bin Khattab [Beirut, Lebanon: Dar al-Ma‘rifah, 2007], p. 432)
There was no discussion about religion. Those who wanted a settlement were granted protection. Then, there is the conquest of Azerbaijan, which also took place in the 22 AH. As has previously been mentioned, Hazrat Umarra gave the flag for the campaign towards Azerbaijan to Utbah bin Farqad and Bukair bin Abdillah and he instructed them to launch their individual attacks from different locations. Bukair bin Abdillah advanced with his army and when he reached near Jurmizan, Rustam’s brother, Isfandyaz bin Farrukhzad, who had fled after being defeated in the battle of Waj Ruz, came forward in order to confront the army. This was Bukair’s first attack on Azerbaijan. A battle ensued, the enemy was defeated and Isfandyaz was captured. Isfandyaz asked Bukair, the commander of the Muslims, whether he preferred a peace settlement or war? Bukair replied, “I prefer a peace settlement.” He then said, “You should keep me with you as your captive. They will not accept any peace settlement until I am made their representative. They will continue to fight until they are scattered in the surrounding mountains, or besieged in their fortresses.” Hence, Bukair kept Isfandyaz with him and they gradually seized more and more of the area. Utbah bin Farqad attacked from another side. Bahram, the brother of Isfandyaz, confronted him on the way, but fled after suffering defeat in battle. When Isfandyaz heard of this, he said, “The flame of battle has now been extinguished and the time for entering a peace treaty has approached.” Hence, he entered into a settlement and the people of Azerbaijan supported him. An oath of reconciliation was written and the words of this oath were as follows: “In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful. This is the settlement which Utbah bin Farqad, a servant of the Leader of the Faithful, Umar bin Khattabra, gives to the inhabitants of Azerbaijan. This settlement applies to all people living in the open plains, mountainous regions and neighbouring areas of Azerbaijan and to the adherents of all religions. All of them are granted protection of their lives, their wealth, their religion and their religious laws on the condition that they pay the jizya according to their means. However, the jizya will not be taken from a child, a woman, someone who is permanently ill and does not have any wealth nor a hermit who does not possess any wealth. This applies to the natives of this land as well as to those, who come from elsewhere and settle here (i.e. for future inhabitants). They [the inhabitants] are responsible for
the hospitality of the Muslim army for the duration of one day and to show them the way [for their onward journey]. If anyone is asked to render military duties, he will be exempt from paying the jizya. These are the conditions for anyone living here and whoever wishes to leave will remain under protection until they reach their place of safety. This settlement has been penned by Jundub and Bukair bin Abdillah and Simak bin Kharsha are witnesses to it.” (Mir Mahmud Ahmad Nasir, Muqala Tarikh-e-Islam bi-Ehd-e-Hazrat Umarra, pp. 176-179) (Muhammad Ibn Jarir al-Tabari, Tarikh al-Tabari, Vol. 2 [Beirut, Lebanon: Dar al-Kutub al-‘Ilmiyyah, 2012], pp. 539-540)
Regarding the settlements with Armenia, it is stated that after the victory of Azerbaijan, Bukair bin Abdillah advanced toward Armenia. In order to assist them, Hazrat Umarra sent an army under the command of Suraqa bin Malik bin Amr, and in this expedition, Suraqa bin Malik was also to serve as overall commanderin-chief, while the vanguard was to be led by Abdur Rahman bin Rabi‘ah. Huzayfa bin Usaid Ghiffari was assigned as the commander of one flank of the army and was told that when this army meets up with the army heading to Armenia under the command of Bukair bin Abdillah, the second wing of the overall army should be given to Bukair bin Abdillah. This army began its journey, and its vanguard commander, Abdur Rahman bin Rabi‘ah moved with such speed that they advanced ahead of Bukair bin Abdillah’s army and reached the outskirts of a place called Baab, where the ruler of Armenia, Shahrbaraz, resided. Shahrbaraz was an Iranian, he sought protection from Abdur Rahman in a letter and came to see him. He was Iranian and hated the Armenians. He negotiated with Abdur Rahman, proposing that the jizya not be levied upon him, but instead he would provide military assistance wherever needed – this is a different kind of settlement. He made a peace treaty, but requested that no jizya be taken from him. Instead, he would provide
them with military support. Suraqa accepted this offer, and Armenia was conquered without any fighting. When this incident of reconciliation was reported to Hazrat Umarra, not only did he approve of it, but expressed great approval and joy. Suraqa presented them with the following settlement: “In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Ever-Merciful. “This is the settlement which Suraqa bin Amr, the Governor representing Umar bin Khattabra, Leader of the Faithful, has made over to Shahrbaraz, Armenia, and the inhabitants of Armenia. The Leader of the Faithful hereby grants them protection of their lives, wealth and religion, guaranteeing that none of these things shall be harmed. In the event of an attack, they will serve in the army, and whenever the commander deems fit, they will help in every important task. The jizya will not be levied upon them; rather, their military services will be accepted in its place. However, those who refuse to provide military support will be required to pay the jizya, just like the inhabitants of Azerbaijan. They [i.e. the Muslim army] should guide them along their journey. They have to provide an entire day’s hospitality. But if military help is rendered, then the jizya will not be taken from them. If military assistance is not taken, then the jizya will be levied upon them.” The witnesses for this agreement were Abdur Rahman bin Rabi‘ah, Salman bin Rabi‘ah and Bukair bin Abdillah. It was written by Mardi bin Muqarrin, who was also a witness. After this, Suraqa began to send armies to the mountains surrounding Armenia. Hence, Bukair bin Abdillah, Habeeb bin Maslamah, Hudhaifa bin Usaid, and Salman bin Rabi‘ah led these forces into the mountains. Bukair bin Abdillah was sent to Mauqan, Habeeb was sent to Tiflis, and Huzayfa bin Usaid was sent to meet with the inhabitants residing in the mountains of La‘n.
Of these forces sent by Suraqa, Bukair bin Abdillah, who was sent to Mauqan saw the greatest victory. He issued a written proclamation of peace to the inhabitants of Mauqan, which was as follows: “In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Ever-Merciful. “This is the settlement issued to the people of Mauqan in the mountains of Qabah, by Bukair bin Abdillah. They are hereby extended protection concerning their persons, wealth, their religion and religious laws, on the condition that every adult pays the jizya of one dinar or its equivalent value […]”. Among all the peace settlements which were formed in these new places, the freedom to profess and practice religion was safeguarded. As for those who allege that Islam was forced upon the masses by the sword – no one from among these people was forcefully converted to Islam. “[…] and that they will act with goodwill, help the Muslims, and incur the expenses of hosting the army for one night. They will enjoy this protection for as long as they are loyal to this agreement and support it, and our responsibility will be to remain loyal to them.
ّٰ َ ْ الل ُہ ال ْ ُم ْس َت َع و ان
“‘And Allah Alone is the Helper.’ If there is any breach in this agreement, or the slightest deception from their side, then they will lose their protection. Rather, anyone witnessing this will hand over the perpetrators of any deception to the Islamic government; otherwise those people will also be considered as their accomplices.” This settlement was also signed and attested for by four or five individuals. (Mir Mahmud Ahmad Nasir, Muqala Tarikh-e-Islam bi-ehd-e-Hazrat Umarra, pp. 180-184)
Then, there is the conquest of Khorasan, which took place in 22 AH. The details of this are as follows: After the Battle of Jalulah, the King of Iran, Yazdegerd, arrived at Rayy. The ruler of Rayy, Aabaan Jaziwiyyah, attacked
25
AL HAKAM | Friday 24 September 2021 Yazdegerd, took his signatory ring, prepared official documents as he pleased, and then returned the ring back to him. Then, Aabaan came to Hazrat Saadra and returned all the agreements that had been decided in writing, i.e. all those documents that had been prepared previously were returned [and thus nullified]. Yazdegerd then left Rayy for Isfahan. Aabaan did not approve of Yazdegerd going there either, and so Yazdegerd had to migrate again to Kerman. He had with him the sacred fire. Because they were fireworshippers, they would carry the sacred fire with them everywhere they went, and he had this with him also. Finally, he decided to go to Khorasan, and stayed in Merv. He lit the sacred fire there and arranged for a temple to be constructed for this purpose along with a garden, which was situated at a distance of two “Farsakh”, i.e. six miles from Merv. Here, he began living in some peace and stability while writing letters of correspondence to non-Arabs living in the regions that were not under Muslim rule. He began to have such influence over these people that they became loyal to him. Furthermore, he also incited the Persians living in [Muslim] occupied lands as well as Hormuzan. Owing to this, they broke their treaties with the Muslims and revolted. The people of Jibaal and Ferozan also followed suit and cut asunder their contractual loyalties with the Muslims and also revolted. Jibaal is the name of a well-known region in Iraq which covers a collection of cities ranging from Asbahan to Zanjan, Qazvin, Hamadan and Rayy etc. Ferozan is the name of a settlement in Asbahan. Anyhow, under these circumstances, Hazrat Umar Farooqra gave permission to the Muslims to advance and infiltrate into Iranian lands. Hence, the people of Kufa and Basra made their way, and upon reaching there, launched powerful attacks against them. Ahnaf bin Qais marched toward Khorasan. On the way, they conquered Mahrjan Qazaq. This is a vast region between the Hulwan and Hamadan mountain range, covering several towns and settlements. After this, when they went a little further toward Asbahan, they found that the people of Kufa had surrounded Jayy. Jayy was also the name of an ancient city in the surrounding regions of Asbahan, which today is almost completely barren. Among the non-Arabs, it is known as Shahristan. Hence, they entered Khorasan from Tabasan, and conquered Herat through powerful attacks. Tabasan is a surrounding state, situated between Nishapur and Asbahan. In Fars, it was referred to in short form as Tabas. Herat is a great and famous city among the renowned cities of Khorasan. They appointed Suhaar bin Fulan Abdi as their deputy and marched forward again towards Merv Shahjahan. Among all the cities and provinces of Khorasan, Merv Shahjahan is the most famous. It is located 210 miles from Nishapur. No skirmishes broke out during the journey. This is why Mutarrif bin Abdillah bin Shikheer was sent toward Nishapur, and Harith bin Hassan was sent toward Sarakhs. Sarakhs is also an ancient and large city in the outskirts of
Khorasan, located between Nishapur and Merv. Nonetheless, when Ahnaf bin Qais approached Merv Shahjahan, Yazdergerd relocated to Merv Al-Rudh. Merv AlRudh is named because Merv refers to the white rock wherein a fire is lit – the stone is neither black, nor red. And “Rudh” is Persian for river. Thus, it means, “the stone of a river.” Merv Al-Rudh is located at a five-day journey from Merv Shahjahan, near a vast river. Ahnaf bin Qais stopped in Merv Shahjahan. After arriving in Merv AlRudh, owing to his fear, Yazdegerd sent envoys to various rulers for support. He sought assistance from Khaqan. He wrote to the leader of Sogdia to send military support. Sogdia is that area which covers Samarkand, Bukhara etc. He also sent for help from the Chinese Emperor. Ahnaf bin Qais left Haritha bin Nu‘man Ba‘li as his deputy in Merv Shahjahan. In the meantime, the armies from Kufa arrived, headed by four commanders and reached Ahnaf bin Qais. When all the armies gathered in Merv Shahjahan, Ahnaf bin Qais ordered the armies to march towards Merv Al-Rudh. When Yazdegerd learnt of this, he fled to Balkh. Balkh was a beautiful city in Khorasan, situated near the Oxus River [Amu Darya]. Subsequently, Ahnaf bin Qais stayed in Merv Al-Rudh. When the armies of Kufa set off for Balkh, Ahnaf bin Qais also departed behind them. Eventually, the armies of Kufa and Yazdegerd met at Balkh and a battle ensued. The outcome of the battle was that through Allah the Almighty’s support, Yazdegerd was defeated, as a result of which he ran towards the [Oxus] river with the Iranians; and having crossed the river, he fled. At this point, Ahnaf bin Qais joined the armies of Kufa. Allah the Almighty granted them victory in Balkh. Balkh is counted among the victories of the people of Kufa. After this, the residents of Khorasan who had fled or took refuge in forts, as well as those living between Nishapur and Tokharistan, all came and agreed upon a settlement. Tokharistan was a region which spanned across many cities and bordered Khorasan. The biggest city was Taloqan. After this, Ahnaf bin Qais returned to Merv Al-Rudh and settled there. He appointed Rabi‘ bin Amir, a nobleman from among the Arabs as his deputy in Tokharistan. Ahnaf bin Qais sent news of the victory of Khorasan to Hazrat Umarra. Upon hearing news of the victory in Khorasan, Hazrat Umarra said, “I did not wish to send an army against them. Instead I wished if there were a river of fire between us and them.” It is usually alleged that Muslims wished to invade lands and conquer countries. Hazrat Umarra did not wish to send an army. Upon hearing the words of Hazrat Umarra, Hazrat Alira stated, “O Leader of the Faithful! Why do you say these words?” Upon this, Hazrat Umarra replied, “The reason is that the people of these areas will revolt three times by breaking the treaties. On the third time they will need to be subdued.”
It is mentioned in a different narration from Hazrat Alira bin Talib that when news of the victory in Khorasan reached Hazrat Umarra, he said, “I wished that there was a river of fire between us and them.” Upon hearing this, Hazrat Alira said to Hazrat Umarra, “O Leader of the Faithful! This is a joyous occasion, what is worrying you?” That is, they had been granted victory, but he wished that there had been a barrier between them. Hazrat Umarra responded, “Indeed, it is an occasion to rejoice, but I am worried that the people there will break the covenant three times.” According to another narration, when Hazrat Umarra learnt that Ahnaf bin Qais had captured both cities of Merv and also Balkh, he stated, “Ahnaf bin Qais is the leader of the Orientals.” He then sent a letter to Ahnaf bin Qais stating, “Do not cross the river whilst you are residing in the area before the river. Always remain
firm upon the principles and morals you brought with you to Khorasan. In this manner, you will gain victory and support at each step. However, do not cross the river, as you will suffer greatly.” (Muhammad Ibn Jarir al-Tabari, Tarikh al-Tabari Translation, Vol. 3, Pt. 1 [Karachi, Pakistan: Dar al-Isha‘at, 2003], pp. 183185) (Muhammad Ibn Jarir al-Tabari, Tarikh al-Tabari, Vol. 2 [Beirut, Lebanon: Dar al-Kutub al-Ilmiyyah, 2012], pp. 546-547) (Yaqut Ibn Abd Allah al-Hamawi, Mu‘jam al-Buldan, Vol. 2 [Beirut, Lebanon: Dar Ihya al-Turath al-Arabi], p. 26, 105) (Ibid., Vol. 3, p. 37, 191, 250, 252, 451) (Ibid., Vol. 4, p. 253, 347, 471)
Initially, when Yazdegerd called upon the neighbouring countries for help, he did not receive any substantial support. However, now Yazdegerd had fled from his own kingdom and went to them in order to gather enough support to recapture his kingdom. Khaqan, the Turk leader supported him and arrived in Balk with his army. Balkh was a beautiful city in Khorasan
26 near the Oxus river, where the Muslims were present with a force of 20,000. Ahnaf killed three Turk horsemen and thinking this to be a bad omen, Khaqan turned back and left. After listening to the conditions of the Muslims from Yazdegerd’s envoy, the Chinese Emperor wrote back to him saying: “After listening to the qualities of the Muslims as mentioned by your emissary, I believe that if the Muslims came up against a mountain, they would reduce it to dust. If I send assistance to you, so long as they remain established upon the principles mentioned by your emissary” i.e. the qualities of the Muslims mentioned by the emissary, “they will take my throne away from me too and I will have no power to stop them. Therefore, you ought to form a treaty with them.” Subsequently, Yazdegerd moved from city to city. He was killed in the Khilafat of Hazrat Uthmanra. (Ali Muhammad al-Sallabi, Sirat Ameerul Momineen Umar bin Khattab, [Beirut, Lebanon: Dar al-Ma‘rifah, 2007], pp. 433-435) (Muhammad Ibn Jarir al-Tabari, Tarikh al-Tabari, Vol. 2 [Beirut, Lebanon: Dar al-Kutub al-Ilmiyyah, 2012], p. 548)
Ahnaf bin Qais sent news about the victory and also the spoils of war to Hazrat Umarra. Hazrat Umarra gathered the Muslims and delivered an address. Upon the instructions of Hazrat Umarra, the letter containing the details about the victory was read out. Hazrat Umarra then said, “Verily Allah the Almighty reminds you about His Messengersa and also the guidance he was sent with. Allah the Almighty has promised to grant reward swiftly to those who follow the Holy Prophetsa and to be granted good in this life as well as in the hereafter.” Hazrat Umarra then recited the following verse of the Holy Quran:
ّ ُ ّ َ َ ٗ َ ْ ُ ّ َ ْ ْ َ ٰ ُ ْ ٗ َ ْ ُ َ َ َ ْ َ ْٓ َّ َ ُ الدیْ ِن ک ِل ٖہ ِ ہو ال ِذی ارسل رسولہ ِبالہدى و ِدی ِن الح ِق ل ِیظ ِہرہ على ُ ْ ْ َ َو لَوْ ک ِر َہ ال ُمش ِرکوْ َن
“He it is Who sent His Messenger with guidance and the Religion of Truth, that He may make it prevail over every [other] religion, even though the idolaters may dislike [it].” (Surah al-Taubah, Ch.9: V.33]
Hazrat Umarra then stated: “All praise belongs to Allah, Who has fulfilled His promise by assisting His army. Hearken! Allah the Almighty has destroyed the Magian Empire and broken their strength and unity. Now they do not own even an inch of land in their former occupied territory and will not be able to harm the Muslims anymore. “Hearken! Allah had granted you their land, their homes, their wealth and made you heirs of their future generations, so that they can see how you conduct yourselves. Remember this well, many nations in the past also had military strength like you.” Hazrat Umarra is advising the Muslims. “Remember this well, many nations in the past also had military strength like you and in the past, many civilised nations occupied far off lands. Allah the Almighty is soon to establish His law and will fulfil His promise and will cause one nation to rise up after another. In order to obey the commands of Allah, follow that individual who will fulfil these promises and will uphold the promises made by God. Do not change your conditions, lest
Friday 24 September 2021 | AL HAKAM Allah the Almighty replaces you with another nation.” That is, if you change your conditions, abandon the faith and not act upon the commandments, then Allah the Almighty will replace you with another nation. Hazrat Umarra then said: “The only thing I fear that can destroy the Muslim ummah is you yourselves. I am not worried whether the enemy can destroy the Muslim ummah; in fact, I only fear that the Muslims themselves will be responsible for annihilating the ummah.” (Muhammad Ibn Jarir al-Tabari, Tarikh al-Tabari, Vol. 2 [Beirut, Lebanon: Dar al-Kutub al-Ilmiyyah, 2012], p. 549) (Muhammad Ibn Jarir al-Tabari, Tarikh al-Tabari Translation, Vol. 3, Pt. 1 [Karachi, Pakistan: Dar alIsha‘at, 2003], p. 190)
We can see that this statement was very true, for Muslims today are striking the necks of fellow Muslims and intent on killing each other. Muslim countries are attacking one another. It is claimed that this is Jihad, whereas Muslims are killing each other. The conquest of Istakhr: Istakhr was the capital of Fars and was an ancient holy centre for the Sasanians. The ancient fire temple was situated here and was under the direct control of the Persian King. Hazrat Uthman bin Abi Al-Aasra decided to march towards Istakhr and a battle ensued between the people of Istakhr at a place called Jaur. A fierce battle took place with the people of Jaur after which Allah the Almighty granted them victory and the Muslims were able to conquer Istakhr as well. Many people were killed and many people fled. Hazrat Uthman bin Abi al-Aasra invited the non-Muslims to pay the jizya and to live as a subject of the Muslim government [dhimmi]. He sent them letters and kept in correspondence with them. Eventually, their leader Hormuz accepted the offer and agreed to pay the jizya. Those people who fled during the conquest of Istakhr or migrated, all agreed to pay the jizya and returned home to a peaceful resolution. After the enemy had been defeated, Hazrat Uthman bin Abi al-Aasra gathered the spoils of war and set aside one fifth and sent it to Hazrat Umarra. The remaining spoils were kept to distribute between the Muslims. He prevented the Muslim army from any kind of looting and there was an order to return anything that was snatched away [from the people]. The commanderin-chief ordered to return anything that had been taken away from the people. Then, Hazrat Uthman bin Abi Al-Aasra gathered everyone and said, “We will continue to scale new heights and be safeguarded from all trials as long as we do not carry out theft or be dishonest. If we are dishonest in the spoils of war, then these immoral acts will become prevalent among us. These evil deeds will bring everyone down.” That is, if they become dishonest and start stealing things, then this will be their downfall. Nowadays, these habits have become prevalent amongst Muslims; they are stealing from each other, wherever the opportunity arises they steal, they are dishonest [in dealings] and it is these immoral traits that are leading to their ruin. They are vilified everywhere in the world. On the day of the conquest, Hazrat Uthman bin Abi Al-Aasra said, “When
Allah the Almighty wishes good for a people, He saves them from every form of evil and immorality. He instils within them the qualities of honesty and truthfulness. Therefore, safeguard the trusts handed over to you because the aspect of faith that is the first to vanish is honouring of a trust. And when you lose your integrity and honesty in this regard, with the passing of each day, you will lose another virtue.” Meaning, when one overlooks honesty, one will stop upholding other virtues as well. In the latter years of Hazrat Umar Farooq’sra khilafat and in the first year of Hazrat Uthman’sra Khilafat, Shariq instigated a revolt and incited the Persians. As a result of this, they broke their treaty. Hazrat Uthman bin Abi Al-Aasra was sent again to crush the revolt. Similarly, reinforcements were sent with Hazrat Abdullah bin Ma‘mar and Shibl bin Ma‘bad Bajali. They encountered the enemy at Fars and a fierce encounter took place, in which Shariq and his son were killed. Many other people also died. Shariq was killed by Hakam bin Abi Al-Aas, the brother of Hazrat Uthman bin Abi Al-Aasra. (Muhammad Ibn Jarir al-Tabari, Tarikh al-Tabari Translation, Vol. 3, Pt. 1 [Karachi, Pakistan: Dar alIsha‘at, 2003], pp. 192-193)
According to one narration, Hazrat Ala bin Hadramira conquered Istakhr for the first time in 17 AH during the era of Hazrat Umar’sra Khilafat. After agreeing to a treaty, the residents broke off the agreement and a rebellion followed suit. In order to put down this rebellion, Hazrat Uthman bin Abi Al-Aasra sent his brother and son. They succeeded in crushing the rebellion. They killed Shariq, the governor of Istakhr. (Ali Muhammad as-Sallabi, Sirat Ameerul Momineen Umar bin Khattab, [Beirut, Lebanon: Dar al-Ma‘rifah, 2007], p. 432) (Ali Ibn al-Athir, Al-Kamil fi al-Tarikh, Vol. 2, [Beirut, Lebanon: Dar al-Kutub al-Ilmiyyah, 2006], pp. 382-383)
Fasa and Darabgerd: In 23 AH, Hazrat Umarra commissioned Hazrat Sariyahh bin Zunaimra toward Fasa and Darabgerd. Fasa was an ancient city in Fars, located at a distance of 216 miles from Shiraz. Darabgerd was a vast region in Fars, comprising of many cities including Fasa. There is a narration documented in Dala‘il Al-Nabuwwah in which Hazrat Ibn Umarra narrates that Hazrat Umarra once sent out an army under the leadership of Hazrat Sariyahra. One day, whilst delivering a sermon, Hazrat Umarra suddenly said aloud: َ ْ یَا َسا ِر َی الجَ َبل That is, “O Sariyahh, go toward the mountain.” Tarikh Al-Tabari also mentions that Hazrat Umarra sent Hazrat Sariyahh bin Zunaimra to Fasa and Darabgerd. When he arrived there, he besieged the area. Upon this, they called their allies for reinforcements who gathered in the desert to combat the Muslim army. When their numbers increased, they advanced to surround the Muslims from every direction. It was a Friday and Hazrat Umarra was delivering the Friday Sermon when he said ْ َْ َ ُ َ یَا َسا ِریَۃ بِ ْن زن ْیم! الجَ َبل الجَ َبل That is, “O Sariyah bin Zunaim, the mountain, the mountain!” There was a mountain situated close to the Muslim encampment. Taking refuge on that
mountain would contain the enemy attack to a single front. Thus, they took to the mountain and fought the enemy, ultimately defeating them and collecting large amounts of the spoils of war. Among the spoils of war was a small chest of precious gems, and the Muslim army, in unanimity, decided to present it as a gift to Hazrat Umarra. Hazrat Sariyahra sent a messenger with news of the victory, along with the chest of gems to Hazrat Umarra. When the messenger reached Medina, Hazrat Umarra was serving food to the people and was holding a staff which he would use to direct the camels. When the messenger approached to speak to Hazrat Umarra, Hazrat Umarra sat him down for food, and so he sat down to eat. When he finished eating, Hazrat Umarra was departing. He got up to follow Hazrat Umarra and when Hazrat Umarra noticed that he was being followed, he thought that the man was still hungry and so upon reaching his home he invited the man in and instructed the bread maker to arrange for food which consisted of bread, olives and salt. Hazrat Umarra told the man to eat, and after completing his meal he addressed Hazrat Umarra saying, “O Leader of the Faithful! I am a messenger from Sariyahh bin Zunaim.” Hazrat Umarra replied, “Welcome!” He then moved closer to Hazrat Umarra, to the extent that his knees touched against the knees of Hazrat Umarra. Hazrat Umarra asked about the Muslims and about Sariyahh. The messenger then informed him about the chest of jewels. Hazrat Umarra looked towards him and in a loud voice proclaimed, “No! There is no honour in this. Return to the army and distribute these among them.” In other words, the gems that had been sent for him should be distributed amongst the army. The messenger submitted, “O leader of the faithful! My camel has become weak, and I also took a loan in hope of being rewarded, so please grant me enough that I may be compensated for what I have incurred.” He insisted until Hazrat Umarra granted him a camel from the camels given in alms and included his camel in the alms instead. The messenger was rebuked and returned to Basra where he implemented the instructions of Hazrat Umarra. It is also mentioned in a narration that when the messenger brought news of victory to Medina, many people enquired about the battle and about Sariyahh, and also asked if they heard a voice on the day of the battle. He replied, “Yes we heard: َ ْ یَا َسا ِر َی الجَ َبل That is, “O Sariyah! Retreat to the mountain”. He continued, “We were very close to being destroyed, but when we took the mountain as refuge, Allah Almighty granted us victory.” (Muhammad Ibn Jarir alTabari, Tarikh al-Tabari Translation, Vol. 3, Pt. 1 [Karachi, Pakistan: Dar al-Isha‘at, 2003], pp. 194-196) (Muhammad Ibn Jarir al-Tabari, Tarikh al-Tabari, Vol. 2 [Beirut, Lebanon: Dar al-Kutub al-Ilmiyyah, 2012], pp. 553-554)

Hazrat Musleh-e-Maudra narrates this incident in the following manner: “There is an incident of Hazrat Umarra recorded from during the time of his Khilafat. He was once standing at the pulpit and delivering a sermon when he spontaneously said: َ ْ یَا َسا ِر َی الجَ َبل َ ْ یَا َسا ِر َی الجَ َبل “That is, ‘O Sariyah, climb the mountain! O Sariyah, climb the mountain!’ Because these words were unrelated to the subject matter, the people enquired as to what was said. Hazrat Umarra explained that he was shown the place where Sariyah was sent as the general of the Muslim army, and that the enemy was about to launch an attack from the rear which would most likely have destroyed the Muslim army. He also saw a mountain in the near vicinity which could save them from such an attack and so he called to them to climb the mountain. Only a few days had passed and Sariyah also reported the exact same occurrence, also writing that the voice that warned them of the danger and guided them to climb the mountain to evade the enemy attack was very similar to the voice of Hazrat Umarra.” Hazrat Musleh-e-Maudra continues: “From this incident, we learn that Hazrat Umar’sra tongue was not in his control at the time, but was rather in the control of the All-Powerful God, for Whom distances and separation is no matter.” (Taqdir-e-Ilahi, Anwar-ul-Ulum, Vol. 4, p. 575)
The Promised Messiahas writes in this regard: “I would also like to add that it is completely baseless and wrong to allege that there is no proof that the revered Companions received such divine revelations. For, according to authentic ahadith, there is ample proof of the great number of revelations and miracles experienced by the revered Companions, Allah be pleased with them. Hazrat Umar’s, Allah be pleased with him, learning of the perilous state of Sariyah’s troops through divine communication has been recorded by al-Baihaqi on the authority of Ibn-eUmar. What was it, if not divine revelation! Moreover, Hazrat Umar’s words: یا سارية الجبل الجبل “[‘O Sariyah! The mountain, the mountain!’] were uttered in Medina, but were heard by Sariyah and his troops in a far off land through the grace of divine providence. What was it, if not a miraculous Sign!” (Barahin-e-Ahmadiyya Pt. 4, Ruhani Khaza‘in,
Vol. 1, pp. 653-654, footnote of footnote 4)
Then comes mention of the conquest of Kerman, which took place in 23 AH. Kerman was conquered by Hazrat Sohailra bin Adi. It is also recorded that it was conquered by Abdullah bin Budail. (Ali Muhammad as-Sallabi, Sirat Ameerul Momineen Umar bin Khattab, [Beirut, Lebanon: Dar al-Ma‘rifah, 2007], p. 436)
Nusair bin Amr Bajali was appointed commander of the vanguard of Hazrat Sohail’sra army. The people of Kerman gathered to battle against them and they began to wage war near their homeland. Ultimately, Allah the Almighty caused them to disperse and the Muslims took
control of their routes. Nusair killed many of their prominent leaders. Similarly, Hazrat Sohailra bin Adi lead a battalion of villagers and took control of the route until Jairuf. Hazrat Abdullahra took to Sher and, as expected, found many camels, goats and sheep. He began to set prices for animals, and because they were larger than typical Arabian breeds, they began to differ about the pricing. To solve this conflict, a letter was written to Hazrat Umarra. Hazrat Umarra replied, “An Arabian camel is priced according to its meat and these camels are similar. If these camels are greater in your opinion, then the price may be increased.” The animals were being priced according to the wealth that was acquired. In a narration, it is mentioned that during the Khilafat of Hazrat Umarra, Hazrat Abdullahra bin Budail bin Waraqa Khaza‘i conquered Kerman. Following that, he went on to conquer Tabasain. He went to Hazrat Umarra and asked if the two conquered lands could be rewarded to him as his property. When Hazrat Umarra decided to grant him the two conquered lands, someone advised that these two lands are very vast districts and are considered gateways to Khorasan. Upon hearing this, Hazrat Umarra changed his decision of giving this land as a reward. (Muhammad Ibn Jarir al-Tabari, Tarikh al-Tabari Translation, Vol. 3, Pt. 1 [Karachi, Pakistan: Dar al-Isha‘at, 2003], pp.196-197)
The conquest of Sijistan [Sistan] also took place in 23 AH. Sijistan is vaster than Khorasan and its borders are spread far and wide. This region was situated between the Sindh province and the Balkh River. The terrain on its borders was very challenging and the area had a large population. Sijistan is also called Sistan by the Iranians. The famous Iranian commander Rostam also lived here. It was situated north of Kerman, and its central headquarters were in Zaranj. In ancient times, this was a very vast region and was very important during the time of Hazrat Muawaiyahra. The people of this region were always at war against Kundhar Turks and other nations. Asim bin Amr aimed to conquer Sijistan and Abdullah bin Umair also joined him with his army. The battle against the people of Sistan took place in a nearby area and the Muslims attained victory while the enemy fled. The Muslims gave chase until they were able to surround the fleeing army in Zaranj. On their way, the Muslims conquered different areas where possible. Eventually, the people of Sistan became willing to reconcile and negotiate about Zaranj and other conquered territories and agreed to a treaty with the Muslims. In their treaty, they stipulated the condition that their forests would be considered as protected pastures. For this reason, Muslims were always wary of the forests when passing by, lest they cause damage and break their covenant. This is the extent to which Muslims would be considerate. Thus, the people of Sistan agreed to pay taxes and the Muslims accepted the responsibility of their safety and security. (Muhammad Ibn Jarir al-Tabari,
Tarikh al-Tabari Translation, Vol. 3, Pt. 1 [Karachi, Pakistan: Dar al-Isha‘at, 2003], p. 197)
The conquest of Mukran also took place in 23 AH at the hands of Hakam bin Amr. Today, it is called Makran whereas in history, it was referred to as Mukran. It was conquered by Shihaab bin Mukhaariq, Sohail bin Adi and Abdullah bin Abdillah who joined them with their armies. The Muslims united to fight against the king of Sindh and were victorious. Hakam bin Amr sent news of this victory and the spoils of war with Suhar Abdi, and sought guidance about the elephants that were seized in the spoils. When glad tidings of the victory reached Hazrat Umarra, he enquired about the land of Mukran. He replied, “O Leader of the Faithful, its soft plains are as hard as the mountains, there is a severe shortage of water, the fruits are inedible, the enemy there is very courageous and the evil there greatly outweighs the good. Whatever abundance there is seems to be very little, and what is scarce goes to waste. Furthermore, what is beyond that is even worse.” Having heard his manner of speaking, Hazrat Umarra asked, “Are you reciting couplets of a poem or really describing the situation there?” He answered, “I am conveying to you the true state of affairs there.” Hazrat Umarra then said, “If you speak the truth, by God, my army shall not attack there.” Therefore, he wrote to Hakam bin Amr and Hazrat Suhailra stating, “Neither army is to advance beyond Mukran and to remain in the area before the river.” He also instructed that the elephants be sold in the Muslim lands, and that wealth be distributed among the Muslim army. (Muhammad Ibn Jarir al-Tabari, Tarikh al-Tabari Translation, Vol. 3, Pt. 1 [Karachi, Pakistan: Dar alIsha’at, 2003], pp. 198-199) (Muhammad Ibn Jarir alTabari, Tarikh al-Tabari, Vol. 2 [Beirut, Lebanon: Dar al-Kutub al-Ilmiyyah, 2012], p. 555)
The details of this battle that have been mentioned have been taken from Tabari. In relation to this battle, Allamah Shibli has written a note stating that the final victory in the time of Hazrat Umarra was in Mukran. However, this is the narration of Tabari. The historian, Baladhuri narrates that the armies reached the lowland areas of Debal and Thana. If this is correct, then during the era of Hazrat Umarra, Islam had reached Sindh and India. He writes in the footnote that half of Mukran is now Baluchistan. Even though Baladhuri states that the victories in the time of Hazrat Umarra reached the city Debal in Sindh; however, Tabari has stated that Mukran was the final victory. (Shibli Nu‘mani, al-Farooq, [Karachi, Pakistan: Dar al-Isha‘at, 2004], p. 157)
In any case, these were details of the era of Hazrat Umarra, which shall continue in the future. After the Friday prayers, I will launch a Turkish Internet Radio [channel], called “Islam Ahmediyet’in Sesi” meaning the “Voice of Islam Ahmadiyyat.” By the grace of Allah, it is ready to be broadcast 24 hours a day. This radio [channel] can be accessed via a link on a tablet, smartphone and laptop etc. A fourhour broadcast will be repeated six times in the day; this package will include tilawat [of the Holy Quran] for one hour with Turkish
translation, Hadith of the Holy Prophetsa, sayings of the Promised Messiahas, Turkish translations of my Friday Sermons. In addition to this, there will be a question and answer session as well. More than 20 countries around the world will be able to benefit from this for the purpose of tabligh and tarbiyat. More than 20 countries will derive benefit in terms of propagating the faith and also for moral training; for example, it can be accessed in Azerbaijan, Georgia – where Turkish is spoken – there are many former Soviet states where Turkish is spoken. Similarly, within Turkey, as well as those countries of Europe where Turkish people have settled, people can benefit from the broadcast. The preparations of this radio [channel] were made by the tabligh department of Germany. May Allah the Almighty reward them and bless this initiative in every regard. I will launch this radio channel after the Friday prayers. There are some funeral prayers inabsentia which I shall lead after the Friday prayer. I would also like to mention that the body of our dear and beloved Taalay has not yet arrived, and it may take a few days. When it arrives I shall lead the funeral prayer, insha-allah, and also speak about him. The first of the funeral prayers inabsentia I shall lead today is of respected Muhammad al-Muhktar Qibta Sahib of Morocco. He passed away at the age of 73.

[“Surely, to Allah we belong and to Him shall we return.”] He pledged his allegiance in 2009. He was a very sincere Ahmadi. After taking the oath of allegiance, he spent all his time in service to the Community and in preaching Ahmadiyyat. He played a vital role in correcting the erroneous notions within society. The sadr of West Morocco, where he resided, writes: “He was a retired soldier. He was well-educated. Aside from Arabic, he was fluent in French and Spanish. Having read Hamamatul Bushra, he took the oath of allegiance right away. Then, he would read the books of the Promised Messiahas with great zeal and love at least twice. He then studied Tafsir-e-Kabir, made copies of it and would distribute them among the Ahmadis. “When the Jamaat was established in our area, he dedicated his life for the service of the Jamaat and went on to visit many of the local jamaats. He was at the forefront of making financial sacrifices. He never said that he was too busy or unable to render any service. He possessed great determination which is seldom seen even among the youth. His obedience to Khilafat was complete and immediate. He had a great zeal for preaching and would preach in the car, train and in the markets to the young and old alike. He conveyed the message to all his family members. He was regular in offering the Tahajud [pre-dawn voluntary] prayers; he would fast every Monday and Thursday, and he would always recite the Jubilee prayers I spoke of. Every day he would recite five to 10 ahzab of the Holy Quran. He would

memorise and repeat portions of the Holy Quran as he walked. At times, he would be so engulfed in the recitation of the Holy Quran whilst walking that he would become unaware of his surroundings – he was filled with the love of the Holy Quran. “Some have even said that even as he slept at night, they could hear him reading and reciting verses of the Holy Quran. He served for nine years as the naib sadr of West Morocco, and also served as the sadr of Ansarullah and finance secretary.” He was a musi [part of the scheme of Wasiyyat] and his wife too is very sincere and is a musia. The next funeral is of Mahmud Ahmad Sahib, former worker in Masjid Aqsa and Masjid Mubarak in Qadian, who passed away at the age of 74 in the last few days.

He continued serving as a worker in Masjid Aqsa and Masjid Mubarak for 28 years. He was a musi. He was regular in fasting and in offering prayers as well as the Tahajud prayers, and he would always supplicate. He had a special affinity with the mosque. He is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter. The next funeral is of Sauda Sahiba, wife of Abdur Rahman Sahib of Kerala, India. She passed away on 22 July at the age of 76.

[“Surely, to Allah we belong and to Him shall we return.”] She was the mother of Shamsuddin Sahib Malabari, Missionary In-Charge of Kababir. Shamsuddin Sahib says: “My mother was the daughter of the late VT Muhammad Sahib, who was the first Ahmadi in the Palakkad district and the surrounding areas, as he took the oath of allegiance in 1937. For a long period of time, he had to endure severe persecution from the opponents. During this boycott, my grandmother and her elder daughter passed away.” This is when his mother was one and a half years old. “After her demise, the opponents would not allow my grandmother to be buried, and so they had to bury her in a cemetery in a city 40 kilometres away. My grandfather migrated with his young daughter, and so my mother went through all kinds of trials from her very childhood.” She was regular in offering her prayers and was a musia. She was filled with compassion for mankind. She had a habit of always praying for those who had troubles, and helping them if they were in her presence. She is survived by her husband, four sons and two daughters. Some of her grandchildren are life devotees and one son is a missionary. They were abroad and so were not able to be at the funeral. May Allah the Almighty elevate her in rank. The next funeral is of Saeeda Majeed Sahiba, wife of Sheikh Abdul Majeed Sahib of Faisalabad. She passed away in the last few days at the age of 86.

To read this article, visit: www.alhakam.org/ [“Surely, to Allah we belong and to Him shall we return.”] Her son, Sheikh Waheed Sahib says that Ahmadiyyat was introduced to the family through his paternal grandfather, Hazrat Barkat Ali Qadiani Sahibra. He has the honour of having both his paternal grandparents as companions of the Promised Messiahas. Saeeda Majeed Sahiba served the Jamaat for a long period of time. In the beginning, she served as the local sadr and finance secretary. Then, in 1982, when Lajna Imaillah Faisalabad was formed, she served as the finance secretary there for seven years. She worked with great effort as she regularly visited 82 local communities in order to oversee the work carried out by the office-bearers in each one.
She kept a close eye on the financial records, timely collection of chanda and its sending off. Her former sadr, Bushra Samee Sahiba, says: “Once, as we were returning from an official visit, some robbers stopped our vehicle. She immediately took the purse which contained chanda money and placed it at her feet to safeguard it, yet she showed no concern for jewellery to be stolen. The rest of the jewellery was taken away, but the alms money was saved and she expressed so much joy over this. A few months prior to her demise, she presented all of her jewellery towards Jamaat initiatives.” She read the writings of the Promised Messiahas many times over. She possessed many wonderful qualities. She had great
love for God Almighty; she was devoted to her prayers and had trust in God. She had wonderful love and affection for Khilafat. She always advised her children, daughters-in-law and grandchildren to remain attached to Khilafat, to pray for the Khalifa of the time and to listen to his sermons. She was a musia. She is survived by her husband, eight sons and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. May Allah the Almighty grant forgiveness and mercy to all the deceased and elevate them in their rank. As I mentioned, I shall lead their funeral prayers in-absentia after the Friday prayer. (Original Urdu transcript published in Al Fazl International, 17 September 2021, pp. 5-10.
