alida lifestyle photographer Beth Johnston created her sweet little 150 square foot gallery, The Studio, with the vision of featuring local artists’ smaller bodies of work. After eight years as a photographer in the valley, Beth aimed, “to create a flexible space, one that could change and grow as new ideas and my own work evolves.” Her studio connects her with other artists, allowing

her to be more present in the community. Each month, Beth donates 20% of the proceeds to a non-profit of the current featured artist’s choice. ate and Diana Porter knew they wanted to put down roots and raise their daughter in the Upper Arkansas Valley; this became one of the catalysts for opening Salida Mountain Sports at 110 F Street in 2007. Not your typical cookie cutter outdoor gear shop, SMS is unique in terms of product selection, and has a staff made up of locals who

Ark Valley Humane Society is building a better future for our animals. Over the last 26 years, AVHS has helped thousands of animals. They maintain a compassionate shelter for all homeless, lost and unwanted pets. Their community assistance programs have provided hundreds of animals in Chaffee County with free or low cost spay/neuter surgeries, thus reducing the number of unwanted pets. The Alliance’s mission is to eliminate domestic violence and sexual assault and to empower victims through education, services and social change. The Alliance provides 24-hour crisis intervention, emergency shelter, transitional and long term housing, financial assistance, support groups, legal advocacy, assistance with restraining orders and divorce papers, children’s services, community education, prevention efforts, and more. All services are free, confidential and completely funded by government grants as well as community fundraising events and donations.
The Salida Boys & Girls Club program promotes and enhances the development of boys and girls by instilling a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging and influence. The Club is a safe place to learn and grow, all while having fun. It’s the place where great futures are started every day. Led by professionally trained staff, programs such as Power Hour (homework help), Fiber Arts, the Social Action Project, Arduino and Spark Fitness inspire and enable kids to realize their full potential as caring, productive and responsible citizens.
