216 FERRARO’S

G

ood food, good friends, and something with garlic!” That’s the tagline for 216 Ferraro’s and it’s spot on. Every meal at Art Ferraro’s intimate, upscale Italian restaurant is a delightful culinary experience.

4

EAT In addition to specializing in fresh, in-house crafted pastas, dry aged beef, fresh seafood, and oysters to die for, Ferraro’s offers a full bar (Peroni is on tap here) and house made Limoncello. Don’t miss the polenta with wild mushrooms —

ART

L

otic is not a traditional art gallery — nor is it a traditional hair salon. Artist Reed Govert opened the space with his sister Rachel in the summer of 2018 intent of showing quality driven artwork while bringing a fresh, minimalistic, design-forward concept to Salida. While you may be familiar with oil as a medium, you’ll likely be surprised by Reed’s wide brush strokes (he

often uses industrial masonry tools), the thick textures left on the surface and the wildly brilliant conceptual ideas spread across vast canvasses. When it comes to workmanship in both art and hair in Salida, Lotic is setting the bar high. Located at 129 W. First Street and open Tuesday-Saturday, be sure Reed is in the gallery when you stop by and call (513) 240-9290. For hair bookings text (719) 207-4419.

SHOP

K

ids of all ages will find something to play with at Kaleidoscope. Owner Donna Cole has been bringing whimsy to our favorite neighborhood toy store for the past 16 years. It’s also become a bit of a Salida gathering place; spend even five minutes in Kaleidoscope and you’ll run into a dozen locals browsing and playing. Cole, and the other friendly face in the shop, manager Stephanie

Perko, delight in getting to know Salida’s children and in assisting people with selecting gifts. This fun-filled retail space is packed with games, puzzles, infant toys and educational learning tools. Kaleidoscope offers a registry for birthdays and holidays, and gift wrapping is available year-round. The shop is at 116 F Street and is open seven days a week. Pinon Personalities Rich Edgington (719) 539-0200 | redgington@pinonrealestate.com I’m a founding partner and Chief Financial Officer of Pinon Real Estate Group. Born in Montana and growing up in the small town of Black Forest, Colo., I moved to the Dallas/Ft. Worth area in my twenties to start a business and family. After twenty years of Texas traffic and heat, I longed to return to Colorado. Salida provided the ideal combination of climate, scenery, recreation, and small town values for my wife and I to raise our four children. I love fly fishing, enjoying outdoor time with my family, and driving vintage Porsche sports cars.

Janet Franz (719) 239-0204 | jfranz@pinonrealestate.com I’ve been a Broker Associate in the Chaffee County and surrounding area for over 14 years. In 2004, my husband David and I moved to the Arkansas Valley because of our love of the outdoors — especially fly fishing. I also enjoy hiking and have climbed 18 of the 54 fourteenthousand-foot peaks in Colorado. I’ve served our community with the Salida Rotary Club, the Salida Sunrise Rotary Club, the Chaffee People’s Clinic, Neighbor to Neighbor Volunteers, and Trout Unlimited. I was also honored by my peers in 2006 by being named Realtor of the Year.

LOVE SAMPLING SMALL PLATES AT THE FRITZ, RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET FROM RIVERSIDE PARK.

(719) 539-0200 | jkane@pinonrealestate.com I’ve been with Pinon almost since the very beginning. The year 2006 was very busy for me; I moved, got married, and started my new job here as Office Manager. In 2013 I decided to get my Real Estate License and when the opportunity to take on the role of General Manager arose, I readily accepted. Born and raised in the Meeker area, I fell in love with Salida during multiple visits and after meeting my husband Shawn, a third-generation native. In my spare time I co-founded and teach at Salida Dance Studio, hosting dance classes for young and old alike.

(719) 221-0682 | slowe@pinonrealestate.com I’m all about making things happen, so to say I don’t waste time is an understatement. Salida has been my home since 2000, and I actually spent most of my summers here while growing up. I was born in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin and graduated from the University of Colorado in Boulder. I am both a Broker Associate and the long-term Property Manager for Pinon. A typical day? I return dozens of phone calls, show rental homes, and coordinate repairs. I shoot out hundreds of emails each week, soothe nerves, distribute information, hold hands and listen.

Pinon Personalities Janine Marr (719) 221-1838 | jmarr@pinonrealestate.com While I’m new to real estate, I’m not new to Salida. Living and working here as the owner of Bangs! Hair Salon for more than 16 years has given me a deep understanding of the community and it’s unique culture. People who know me say my compassion and strong connection to clients will translate perfectly to the real estate industry. They also say I’m a pro at getting things done. While not working, I love spending time with my husband Mike and daughter Jamison on Salida’s beautiful nine-hole golf course.

Hayden Mellsop (719) 530-8333 | hmellsop@pinonrealestate.com I was born in New Zealand, first came to the area in 1990, and soon after met my wife Kym. I’ve been with Pinon since 2006 and have guided fly fishermen extensively in both New Zealand and Colorado for over twenty years. I write for High Country Angler and my own blog at flyfishsalida.com. In addition to fly fishing, other interests include helping raise two daughters, snowboarding and mountain biking. I have a strong conservation ethic, am currently board president of the Land Trust of the Upper Arkansas, and am a member of Trout Unlimited.

FAVORITE DISH IS A BREAKFAST BURRITO AT THE PATIO. FAVORITE DRINK IS THE MO’GARITA.

(719) 207-3077 | kmellsop@pinonrealestate.com I discovered Salida when I stopped here to visit my brother back in 1994 and never left. I bring to Pinon a love of the land, the river and the people that make up the Salida community. When not working in real estate I volunteer with Heart of the Rockies Hospice, am curator for the Pinon office gallery, hike with my high energy dog, patronize the arts, participate in Salida’s growing Sangha, and enjoy spending time with friends and family. Salida is the ideal place to raise my two daughters, Sophia and Beatrice, with my husband Hayden.

(719) 207-0466 | lpeuser@pinonrealestate.com I’ve made my home in the Arkansas Valley since 1979 and have been engaged in real estate for the past 31 years. I have deep roots in the Salida community and enjoy sharing my enthusiasm for the many amenities that make this area special. I know you have choices when you seek a relationship with a real estate professional and invite you to consider the following as you make this important decision: I believe in personal communication and will begin by listening to your story and asking questions to help me best respond to your real estate needs.

Pinon Personalities Leah Rathbun (719) 539-0200 | lrathbun@pinonrealestate.com After graduating from Michigan State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Studio Art — nearly debt free thanks to the Kalamazoo Promise — I craved a change in scenery. My boyfriend and I moved to Salida in 2017 and fell in love with the mountains and constant sunshine. I then stumbled into the perfect job at Pinon which challenges my creative side and keen attention to detail. I enjoy photography, cats, and tending to my plants.

Wendy Rombold (719) 221-4662 | wrombold@pinonrealestate.com I came to this valley to raft on the Arkansas back in 1995, which led to hiking, skiing, and snowmobiling on the incredible Collegiate Peaks Mountains. I currently serve on the Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area Citizen Task Force and the Chaffee County Transporation Advisory Board. I’ve been involved in real estate and mortgage lending for 23 years and was recently awarded a Certified Residential Specialist designation. I’m also a certified Resort and Second-Home Property Specialist, a unique niche important to many homeowners.

DEPENDING ON SEASON: NACHOS AT MONARCH MOUNTAIN, WALLBANGERS OR THE SALIDA GOLF CLUB.

(719) 539-0400 | judys@pinonrealestate.com I know this valley, I’m hard working, friendly, and love helping people find the pesrfect piece of real estate. I know the right questions to ask and think outside the box to get deals done. If you’re looking for something special, I’ll dig until we find it. Connecting with people and listening is key for a smooth real estate transaction. With over 30 years of real estate experience, as well as mortgage brokering, appraisals and real estate investing, I’m always ready to share my passion for Salida, it’s amazing sense of community and pristine outdoor spaces.

(719) 221-9179 | pwilken@pinonrealestate.com Originally from the Midwest, I’ve been happy to call Colorado home for more than 20 years. My husband Keith and I knew Salida was where we wanted to live after our very first visit. We’ve raised two children here and can’t imagine a better place to raise a family. I’m in my second term as a Salida school board member, and I helped start the Chaffee County Boys & Girls Clubs. My passion for Salida and love of real estate make me a natural choice when looking for an agent. When not working, I enjoy hiking and camping with my husband and two dogs.

CENTRAL COLORADO CONSERVANCY

SALIDA SOUP

(719) 539-7700 CentralColoradoConservancy.org

Salida Soup is a monthly community-based potluck where participants propose a variety of projects. Bring a potluck item and a $5 donation. As a diner, you will hear five-minute pitches from locals who need funding for projects beneficial to the community. Enjoy food, drink, art and music, then choose the winning proposal to receive the evening’s donations.

In Colorado we enjoy an unmatched quality of life: wide open spaces, clean water, freeroaming wildlife, and quiet time on trails and rivers. But the demand for additional space and water is growing and our Western heritage could disappear. Central Colorado Conservancy helps conserve the region’s land, water and wildlife to protect the values that make Central Colorado special.
