Rationale I am going to do a set of briefs to fit in with my practice, which i am focusing on Children's books and education and creating paper illustrations, both 2D & 3D. Within these briefs i would like to focus on character development, children's illustrations and paper illustrations. I am doing this so i can develop my skills within my practice and spend time to develop each of these skills within different briefs which have different time scales so i can use them to constantly practice and further my skills to deadlines.
Themes / Subjects Children's book and education Character development Paper illustrations All these will help my practice and i've chosen briefs that i can focus on each of these themes to progress my practice.

Practical Skills / Media / Formats
For Inktober, i will be using ink but I will be using this quick, one-a-day brief to practice and further my skills in character development. My One-a-week brief will be used to develop 6 of the characters from Inktober further, so this will be a mixture of different process and media. For my substantial brief, i will be designing a book cover for a children's book, i might create a paper illustration but i cant be more precise until i read the book and see what medium would be best. My personal interest brief will be focused on paper illustration, both 2D & 3D, experimenting with different techniques and skills each week. i.e. quilling, paper cut, 3D images etc. Brief 1: Inktober
Deadline 1st Novemeber
Rationale: In this brief i am doing a drawing a day in ink, each drawing is a character to make
an epic fairytale. I am using this brief to further my skills in character development as it is daily it is useful for constant practice and there's room for errors. The character development will also come in useful for bigger briefs within my practice.
Brief 2: One-a-week Character Development
Deadline Start - 7th Nov.
Deadline - 18th Dec
Rationale: In this brief i will be taking 6 of the characters i have created from Inktober and
develop them further, one character per week. I am doing this to develop characters fully, using different process and media, this will be really helpful when doing larger briefs, especially for children's book illustrations.
Brief 3: Penguin Random House Design Award
The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13 3/4
Deadline 18th January
Rationale: For this brief I will be designing a children's book cover for Penguin Random House,
but to make this substantial, I will be designing products and advertising to go along with it. I am choosing this brief as i am really interested in children's book illustration and it will be useful as it will show that i can work to deadlines and certain requirements etc. Brief 4: Personal Interest brief - Paper Illustration Deadline Ongoing Rationale: I will be using this brief to develop my skills within paper illustration, both 2D & 3D.
Each week i will use a different skill or technique to gain confidence within the medium. I am choosing to do this as i am really interested in it and would love to be more knowledgable about the different processes.
