Brief
Cockburn school A group of us attended a teacher training day for heads of art departments from various schools, to give a creative workshop showing the teachers how to incorporate literacy into their art class.
design a workshop that can be used by art teachers to introduce literacy into the classroom. bare in mind students that might not have english as their first language Lesson Plan – 45 mins - Give each person 2 x A3 sheets of paper - Divide 1 sheet into 6 (12 pieces when using front and back) - We will pull a verb and a noun out of separate bags and they have 1 minute to draw what has been called out i.e. jumping sock - Do 12 times overall - Divide the next sheet of paper into 4 pieces to make a storyboard (show example of what a storyboard is) - Choose at least 2 of the 12 illustrations to make a short story which is written in 4 parts as a storyboard - Pass on to your neighbour - Now draw the story you have been given - Share with the class Reason for this task – it has been found that if a child draws from a story they’ve read, it increases understanding, motivation and improves reading comprehension

Roles that I played within this project - Pitched the idea to different year groups at the front of the classroom explaining the great opportunity - Communicated almost daily with the students wanting to participate and found out how they work best and organized the project to fit well within their student life - Organized the brief, including the deadline and the timeline for when things would need to be completed - Posted messages on the student noticeboard to remind students of important dates - Kept the brief professional to keep the students working at the standard as the professional world - Looked into funding for the project with the students union - Organized it for different years so the students can gain skills from one another.
