For my major brief, I would like to produce something educational/informative for young adults. I would like to produce something that is creative and a functional tool. I want to do this as I am really passionate about education, but also creating fun ways of doing this. I like to focus in on topics that are not necessarily taught a lot in schools and I like to research in depth and produce something that will inspire further learning or in case of a non-educational topic, such as informing someone on something, I would like to encourage change.

Themes / Subjects Education – Core Modules Serious topics, such as mental health and suicide Young Adults from 12-25

Professional Context & Contextual References Professional Context would be creative tools that could be bought, given out or taught. Books, games, apps etc. Contextual References - - Shelley Li Wen Chen - Christopher Corr - Craig Foster - Heather Landis - Steve Evans (LinkedIn) - Hannah and Molly (LinkedIn)

BA (Hons) Illustration - Level 06 OUIL603 Extended Practice – Major Brief BRIEF TITLE Adapted Papyrus Brief – Prevention of Suicide in Young People Brief To create a set of informative tools to help prevent suicide in young adults. These will focus on how to deal with Mental Illness, strategies to help improve mental state and information on how to get better.

Products & Proposals

Function & Context

Consetina colouring book – Big city scape illustration, including activities that can help improve depression and being active to improve health. Book – A book describing how you will feel in this state, reassuring that it’s okay, and how to get better. Including information on NHS services, charities to help etc. App – An app that randomly gives actions to the audience that will influence them to take steps to improve mental health and seek help.

The function of these products will be to inform and ensure the audience. The colouring book will hint at activities that will be useful to get healthy, whilst also being a tool of relaxation. The book will inform on facts and reassure the person suffering. The app will be something that could influence productivity to someone who feels unmotivated, as a lot of counselling available only listens to the patient, instead of giving them helpful tools to help change for themselves, instead of medication, this is an app so can be private to the person using it, compared to other functional tools of educating and informing, as self-isolation is common.

Context & Distribution

Audience & Tone of Voice

These tools of education can be used by hospitals, clinics, doctors and charities. The colouring book could be sold in shops, or if created using illustrator, it could be enlarged and printed as a wall sticker in charity buildings and hospitals etc. The book can be sold in shops etc. The app could be in any app store, available to anyone, so it can be easy to access to someone in need. I would want this to be a free product so that people in need could purchase it without money holding them back if in need.

Audience would be young adults, as the charity specifically works towards the prevention of suicide in young adults, but with suicide being a problem with younger children as well the audience will 12-25. The information will be serious as is the topic, but helpful to all young ages.

Additional information/Considerations I could work with the charity, asking for information that is key for my research, possibly getting a lot of primary research from people that are specialised in the subject.

Deliverables Consetina book, Book, App Design (Proposed)

ACTION PLAN – use this section to identify specific tasks that you need to complete in order to resolve the brief. Week What do you need to do? Research Activities that help Mental Health for colouring book and facts for the book and figure out what should be in it. For example, should it discuss biology of depression? 1 Should it have first hand knowledge of what people go through? What charities/helplines that can help? Talk to the charity for advice on the content that is most useful for the prevention of suicide 2
