Appeal to All Pilot Members to Participate in PI Leadership Nomination Process Dear Pilot Friends, To be successful as an international organization, Pilot International must have a diverse slate of talented, qualified and committed nominees from which to choose next year’s leaders. All Pilots, by joining their clubs and enthusiastically giving of their time and energy to participate in club activities, have shown their willingness to serve their communities. The next logical step is serving in leadership positions at the club, district and international levels. Remember that many Pilots may be willing to serve, but simply have not been asked. Serving as a Pilot leader has benefits beyond a stronger and more effective organization - it also benefits the individual Pilot. Pilot leaders gain new skills and experience personal growth, opportunities to meet new people and more. There’s no better training ground for management than elected office, where people have to be motivated and strong leadership is key. And taking part in the decisions that shape the Pilot organization is a reward in and of itself.
Today I am asking each club to commit to making a nomination for the International level. I ask that each of you take this process seriously and give careful consideration to nominating qualified candidates for each office... and to accepting nomination if you are asked. Detailed job descriptions and requirements for each office can be found in Article XXV of the Pilot International Bylaws: http://www.pilotinternational.org/members/governance/ pilot-international-bylaws/. As a reminder, we will be electing the following officers in July at the Pilot International Annual Convention and Leadership Conference in New Orleans: • Vice President (2 nominations, 1 accepted as of 3/31/13) • Secretary (3 nominations, 2 accepted as of 3/31/13) • Treasurer (2 nominations, 2 accepted as of 3/31/13) • Director - 3 Positions Available (6 nominations, 3 accepted as of 3/31/13) Nominations for the office of President and President Elect are not necessary as President Elect Judy Langley automatically becomes President at the close of the International Conference in New Orleans, and Vice President Sherry Johnson will become President Elect. Bonnie Turner will serve the second year of her term in 2013-2014 as Director. Please also consider this your personal invitation to attend the 2013 Pilot International Annual Convention and Leadership Confererence in New Orleans in July - we have many exciting and educational activities planned for you. I hope to see you there! In Pilot,
2012 - 2013 Pilot International President

Club & District Manual Update Information:
• In preparation for the upcoming District Conventions, updated Club and District Manuals are now availalble for download from the PIlot International website at the following links: Club Manual: http://www.pilotinternational.org/members/managing-a-club/club-manual/ District Manual (download all sections): http://www.pilotinternational.org/members/managing-a-district/district-manual/ Several of our districts have written into PIHQ encouraging other districts and clubs to consider downloading the updated manuals and having them printed locally versus ordering printed copies to be mailed from PIHQ. This saves districts and clubs on shipping and handling costs and some districts and clubs have been able to have their printing costs offset by using local vendors with ties to Pilot. Midwest District Governor Elect Holly Baker wrote to us and said, For years the Midwest District has adopted a pro-active approach to reducing our printing and copying costs for district meetings, workshops and conventions. How do we do it, you ask? It is a team effort! We have a very generous Pilot who has written a grant for many years to her former employer. This grant provides us with a professionally printed, COLOR, Annual Convention program. The savings - we have estimated - would total over $600.00. Another thrifty Pilot has been able to utilize a gracious family member’s business copier for items like manuals, handouts and other meeting materials. Some of our Pilots have communicated with their employers to utilize their company marketing departments or office equipment. These acts have provided us with a healthy bottom line which enables our district to give back to clubs via reduced registration fees, quality programs and on occasion district grants. With our 501(c) 3 status, we anticipate many new opportunities to further reduce these types of costs in the future. There are many other ways to reduce printing costs. For example, printing on thinner paper, printing two pages per sheet, or printing on both sides of the sheet. You can also reduce the size of the paper or opt to send files electronically and have recipients print their own copies. See other helpful hints at http://lifehacker.com/5031086/smart-and-easy-ways-to-reduce-printing-costs. Holly Baker- Governor-Elect, Midwest District
Thank you so much for your district’s resourcefulness, Holly, and for sharing your ideas with fellow Pilots! • If your club or district has any similar useful and resourceful ideas that you would like to share through the News From PIHQ, please email communication@pilothq.org.
