Past PI President'sMessage Pilots, I want to thank you for a Most Memorable Year! My journey has been truly amazing and I have made new friends who have touched my life forever. What a joy it has been to serve as an ambassador for Pilot International in different parts of the world. Kevin Hall’s words truly speak of the impact this year has made on my life, and I hope on yours, as well. “A life of significance is about serving those who need your gifts, your leadership, your purpose.” You have displayed the brilliance of service and the gift of self in countless ways to make the world a better place. We all serve in different ways to different people in different parts of the world, but we are united in our noble purpose. Pilots and Anchors are all about doing more, caring more, and being more. Together, we have achieved many accomplishments this year. It has been exciting to see how our Clubs and members have embraced the ABC’s of Pilot…Anchor --Youth Development and Leadership, Brain Safety & Fitness, & Caring for Families in Times of Need. The first annual International Care & Kindness Week began a new tradition for us, and it was rewarding to celebrate these and many other accomplishments with you the 2014 international convention. The spirit of Pilot Friendship I have witnessed this year has been been truly rewarding. Like you, I have many special Pilot friends who have helped me to grow as a leader and who have offered encouragement and support at every turn in the road. To every Pilot and Anchor, I say thank you for the honor of serving as your President this past year. I love you all. Thank you for sharing your gifts throughout this year, and for allowing us to highlight many of your gifts at this year’s convention. Wherever you serve in your communities as Pilots and Anchors, you cannot help but shine, and in doing so, you share your light with others. You make pathways in life brighter; you lighten the load of others, and you enlighten lives with knowledge. As Marion Williamson so eloquently stated, “…As we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.” Thank you for the light you have spread in the name of Pilot all over the world this year. May you continue to shine your light in years to come as you find new ways to “Do More. Care More. Be More.” Thank you! Because I Care,
Judy Langley 2013-2014 Pilot International President

PilotPoints Calling ALL PILOT CLUBS AND DISTRICTS Pilot International encourages you to submit professional quality, “webworthy” photography for use on the Pilot International website and in various Pilot International media campaigns. Photographs should be sent in jpg format, 300 dpi at 2550x3300 pixels (at least, preferably), to the Pilot International Communications Department at communication@pilothq.org. Photographs should not be date-stamped OR cropped in any way. As Pilots, we strive to Do More. Care More and Be More every day. No matter whether it was five months or fifty years ago, each Pilot remembers who invited them to their first Club meeting. Each and every Pilot from all walks of life entered that room with different talents, different interests and different experiences, but each remembers the joy and friendship they felt at that first gathering. They remember the exhilaration that came with their first opportunity to serve, and they remember just WHY they joined Pilot. Each member’s unique journey through the months and years that followed are the sparkling threads that knit their personal Pilot tale. Every Pilot has a story. We want to hear yours, and we want to share it. Because your story is part of Pilot’s story. Because YOU are a PILOT. Pilot International invites you to be a part of the I AM A PILOT campaign. New marketing and new membership materials are being designed to introduce the world to Pilot by introducing our amazing members. Pilot is all about its people. Pilot International is honored that you are a part of our organization, and want to share you with the world!
Please note that submitted photographs may be chosen for use in a variety of publications and without advance notice. Clubs and Districts are encouraged to employ the Pilot International Photo Release Form found on the Pilot International website at all events and projects where photos are taken.

PilotPoints Electronic Communications From Pilot International are Like Little Gifts in Your Inbox... Are You OPENING YOURS? According to the most recent statistics provided by Constant Contact...maybe not? Pilot International works very hard to provide our membership with informative and timely communications including the Pilot International News, The Anchor Newsletter and numerous electronic communications designed to keep you up to speed with all of the exciting things happening with Pilot like general announcements or partnership opportunities. But, according to the most recent data provided by Constant Contact, of the 8535 members listed in our email database, only 1600 are actually opening your messages from Pilot International, and of those 1600, only about 120 are reading the messages and clicking on the links to additional information. This action is vital to receive items such as the Pilot International News which comes to you via a clickable link from Constant Contact. Don't let these good gifts go to waste! As a Pilot, it is your responsibility to remain engaged and informed, and Pilot International Headquarters strives to provide continual communication to you, our valued members. But, in order to "be in the know," you have to take that quick, easy step and open the message. Do you think you should be receiving our communications but you haven't seen one in your inbox? In order to ensure that you continue to receive our communications in a timely fashion, please make sure that your email client is set to recognize and receive messages from "pilot@pilothq.org" and "communication@pilothq.org." We have had numerous reports from members who had not received any of the communications only to discover that their email platform was rejecting the incoming messages entirely. Pilot International sends out information via Constant Contact at least once a month, and usually more often than that. If you believe that you are not receiving our information, please check to make sure that your email recognizes our email addresses as "safe." There's such great stuff happening with Pilot these days, we wouldn't want you to miss a THING!

Does that person contribute to his or her society outside of the club in a way you feel is especially important? Do you have a member in your club with a unique career or someone who has made a name for themselves in a singular and positive way outside of their work with Pilot or Anchor? Then tell us! To nominate a club member as an Outstanding Pilot or Outstanding Anchor, write to us and tell us in 500 words or less why you think your nominee should be honored. To submit your entry (with photographs of your nominee if possible), please visit the I’m A Pilot > Outstanding Pilot page on the Pilot International Website or email the PI Communications Department at communication@ pilothq.org. PilotPoints Dear Pilots, Please know how honored and humbled I am to be selected to serve as the Pilot International Executive Director. I appreciate and have the utmost respect for the time, effort and thought that was put into the hiring process by the members of the Pilot International search committee. I am extremely fortunate and impressed the staff is so dedicated in carrying out the mission of Pilot International. We do have a brand new member to our team, Ms. Teresa Ramirez. She will be assuming the position of Pilot International Director of Communications. Alison Coons has decided to pursue new career opportunities at this time. We wish her well and much success with her new endeavors. Like the other members of our team, you will find that Teresa is competent, energetic and eager to serve you. I am equally fortunate and impressed with Pilot International’s Administrative Council, and have already learned so much from each of them. I am extremely excited and fortunate to come on board at this time and begin working with all of the levels of leadership to make Pilot International the most talked about and popular service organization. There are so many great opportunities to be taken advantage of particularly the arenas of development and promotion of Anchor Clubs. If your travels bring you through Macon, Georgia, we would love for you to stop by Pilot International Headquarters for a visit! Respectfully yours,

T
raveling across continents to visit Japanese Pilots and Anchors was an opportunity of a lifetime! I found the Japan Pilots to be warm, friendly, and eager to share their respect and passion for Pilot and love of their beautiful country. at the time of the visit, Japan’s Pilot membership was 558, with 38 clubs and 205 Anchors in 9 clubs. And what a privilege it was to meet with the Japan District Leadership and with the Anchors, as well! While in Hiroshima, we had tea with the Honorable Mayor Matsui Kazumi, shared information about Pilot International, and learned much about the efforts towards world peace. This visit was covered in the local newspaper. We also visited the Hiroshima Memorial Site and Museum and were treated to a special tour of the museum by the curator, Noriyuki Masuda. We saw many school children at the Memorial Site presenting leis of a thousand cranes in memory of a young girl who survived the atomic bomb for a short period and promoted world peace through the cranes. We were also able to visit the Hiroshima Castle and the Hiroshima Garden. The Japan District convention was well attended and well run, with Governor Kyoko Ito presiding. I presented a workshop on how other districts are presenting Pick Me Ups, and the Japanese presented an outstanding workshop on their own successful Pick Me Ups. I was especially touched by the group of mothers of children who participate in Special Olympics. These mothers performed hula dances with the biggest smiles you have ever seen. What a great Pick Me Up for these mothers to share

among themselves and turn this into a Pick Me Up for those who were uplifted by witnessing their performance! The Hiroshima Junior Marimba Concert was also great entertainment, and keynote speaker, Akiko Domoto, Ex-Governor of Yukyu-no-ma Chiba Prefecture, spoke on the empowerment of women. Having a real box-lunch with the Past Governors of Japan provided a special time to learn much of the Japan District’s history. The Installation ceremony was a beautiful event, with many special dignitaries as guests, and I was thrilled to be dressed in a beautifully handmade kimono by Japan Pilot Kazumi Kawahara of the Satsuma Pilot Club. I was honored to give the toast for the evening and accept generous donations to Pilot International Founders Fund on behalf of several clubs and the district. It was wonderful to participate with Japanese Pilots on their post-convention tour. We visited the Shukkeien Gardens and the Hiroshima Prefectural Museum. It was an honor and a privilege to be with Pilots in countries outside of the United States. It was an amazing opportunity to serve as an Ambassador for Pilot in the Bahamas and Japan! The Bahamas District Pilots celebrated their 10th Annual Bahamas District Convention in beautiful Nassau. As I enjoyed their wonderful hospitality, it became clear why Bahamians say, “It is better in the Bahamas.” On May 2, 2014, I joined a group of Pilots to make a courtesy call on His Excellency, Sir Arthur Foulkes, Governor General of The Bahamas. Discussion with His Excellency allowed Pilots the opportunity to promote the noble purpose of Pilot International and the impact that Pilots and Anchors are making in the Bahamas. We also visited with the Minister of Education, Science and Technology, Jerome Fitzgerald, where Governor Elect Emily Glass

promoted BrainMinders in the school system. We then visited the Ranfurly Home for Children and presented Mr. Alexander Roberts, Administrator, with items donated by Pilots as a district project. Friday evening’s fundraiser, the "Denim & Diamond, Mix & Mingling Dance," was well attended by Pilots and friends. The Bahamas District Convention, with Governor Carolyn Deleveaux presiding, began Saturday morning with a beautiful parade of club banners from all six of the clubs in the district. Comparatively small in geographical size, the Bahamian District membership of 139 stands tall and proud to be Pilots. Their business meetings were streamlined, and their workshops were very interesting and informative. Each division provided a report on the year’s activities. It was a pleasure to lead a Brainstorming Session on Membership entitled, "How to Encourage New/Younger Members to Join/Become More Involved & Take On Leadership Roles." It was great to hear the ideas shared by these Pilots! They are very open to making things work better, allowing changes while maintaining our wonderful traditions of Pilot. They question “Why” and ask “Why not?” Other workshops included topics of how to conduct fantastic meetings, leading with excellence, and commitment to serve. Guest speaker Angel Lowe,
from the Pilot Club of Abaco, spoke about her challenging journey. After convention, my traveling Pilot friend, Billie Stoudemire, and I enjoyed several days on our own, visiting with Past International President Debbie Archer in Freeport, Grand Bahama. Debbie was an excellent hostess, and we had the opportunity to explore the island and visit with Debbie’s family, Sir Albert and Lady Laurie Miller. Thank you so much for your gracious hospitality, Debbie! And although I was unable to physically attend the chartering ceremony of our newest international clubs, the Pilot Club of Pretoria, South Africa and the Anchor Club of the Good Hope, on November 7, 2013, I was thrilled to share in this historic event with them via Skype! It was the next best thing to being able to travel there myself! We were fortunate that Pat Garner of the Georgia District was in South Africa on business at the time and was able to participate in the charter ceremony in person. My journey this year has strengthened my belief that all Pilots, everywhere share our common dedication to Friendship and Service. I am so very proud of each and every one of you and of our amazing organization! Thank you for your kindness to me and for your continued commitment to Do More, Care More and Be More every day!

The 2014 Anchor Leadership Summit was an Amazing Experience...
F
or our Anchors and Pilots alike. We began our days with service projects - painting murals for Illinois Hospitals and packing goodie bags for the IMD House. Anchors from around the world came together to learn more about what it means to be a leader, how to build a team that can conquer any task, and brainstorm about their own Anchor Clubs.
By sharing ideas about community service projects and fundraisers, as well as club organization and initiations, Anchors in attendance are returning home ready to lead their clubs to a higher level of service and are able to share these wonderful ideas and activities with their local club. Anchors had the privilege of hearing from motivational speaker Jacqueline Cornaby, learning about our military heroes and how to work as a team from Freedom’s Foundation VP of Education, Jason Raia, and more. They were able to exchange fun facts about their home state in the annual cultural event, and even spent time exploring the city of Chicago. One of the most exciting parts of the Summit was the friendships that were made among Anchors living hundreds and even thousands of miles away from each other. It was an honor and a privilege to work with these incredible youth. In our current society, it is easy to assume that all young people are self-absorbed, lack leadership skills and a good work ethic, and have little hope for a positive future. After meeting and working with the Anchors at this year’s Leadership Summit, I can say that there is a hope for an absolutely amazing future, being led by young adults who are kind, compassionate, strong, hard-working and uplifting. I would like to extend a very special thanks to all of our Pilots who support these incredible youngsters. Without the help, guidance, and encouragement of the Pilots who sponsor them and the Advisors who lead them, our program would not be what it is today. We have a wonderful opportunity to change the world through the Anchor program with members who are ready and willing to extend their hearts and hands to everyone around them. Let’s get ready for an even bigger and better year! Anchors Aweigh!

2013-2014 Anchor Advisor of the Year Award Winners
Congratulations, Amazing Advisors!
Janell Abbott 1st Place
Mineola High School Mineola, TX "It is indeed an honor for me to accept this award and I thank Pilot International for choosing me to receive it, however I could not have accomplished this without the help and support of a lot of others. I joined the Pilot Club of Mineola in 1991. In 1994, they asked me to sponsor the Mineola High School Anchor Club. This is when my passion in Pilot began. Their excitement and the enthusiasm the Anchors have with each project amazes me. Some of our projects are things we have been doing for 20 years, but with each new group, they get just as excited about it as the ones before them.
Janell Abbott receiving the 2013-2014 1st Place Anchor Advisor of the Year Award from 2013-2014 PI President Judy Langley at 2013 international convention in Chicago.
We always say, “Anchors are our future," but they are also our present. They want to make their communities a better place in which to live – now and in the future. They care more and do more through their work. I also owe gratitude to my Mineola Pilot Club. Their support both physically and financially make it possible to do the projects that my Anchors do. A quote by Harry Strunk sums up my feeling about giving back through community service. My Anchors have heard this over and over. He said, “Service is the rent we pay for the space we occupy on earth”.

I love what I do with my Anchors. Watching them mature into young adults who want to help others – who want to be more—is reward enough – but this award is extra special!! Thank you again.

2014 Anchor Leadership Summit - Chicago, IL - July 2-6, 2014
Look for more Anchor Leadership Summit Highlights and Info About the 2015 Event - COMING SOON! Where has the time gone? For the past two years I have had an exciting journey as your International Anchor Coordinator. Along the way I have had the opportunity to meet many wonderful Anchors and Pilots in person, on the phone, via Facebook and through email. We have traveled down some long roads and some over bumpy roads but together we have worked through many obstacles to enrich the lives our wonderful Anchors everywhere. This is a journey I will treasure always and not soon forget. For those that don’t know me personally, I eat, sleep and drink Anchor and have recently been told that my heart is in the shape of an Anchor – and who knows, it just might be!! I encourage everyone to get involved with an Anchor Club and support them in all ways possible. If you don’t have a local Anchor Club, then by all means support the Anchor Clubs in your District or on the International level. Anchors are the future of Pilot and if we want our organization to continue to grow so we can help those around us, then we need to start mentoring our younger generations now so they see the importance of growing up with a heart of service for others.
Missy Ridgway receives the Outstanding Pilot Support of Anchor Award, Gold Level, from 2013-2014 PI President Judy Langley at 2014 international convention.
I hope I have been of encouragement to all of you as you work with existing Anchor Clubs or think about starting new ones. There are so many opportunities for our Anchors, we need to just encourage them and be that hands on support they desire and it is our lives that will be truly blessed the most. I hope you know that I am always open for any questions you may have about Anchor. The Anchor Coordinator Title may only belong to me for a certain period of time, but the love of being that support and help when needed is an endless job that I hope to continue from this day forward.
To all of you out there that love Anchors as much as I do, please keep doing what you do, work with these young people, mentor them, guide them in new directions but most of all love them unconditionally and show them the importance of service to others – that is what Pilot and Anchor is all about! Carrollton member Martha Sanders (r) welcomed her friend and neighbor Mary Ellen Newsom (l) to the Pilot Club's January meeting and recognized her as a special Caregiver. The Pilot Club of Carrollton has been recognizing one or more Caregivers at each meeting this year by treating them to the dinner meal and giving them a gift basket. Club President Angie Hall has chosen the caregiver recognition as her focus project this year. Recognizing caregivers in the community is a part of Pilot International's signature Pick Me Ups

program. Mary Ellen's husband Mickey has Alzheimer's and was admitted to The Oaks, a care facility, several years ago when she could no longer manage his care at home. Most of her days are centered around being with him. Pilot Martha Sanders spoke to her club about Mary Ellen, "She is usually with her husband for his evening meal, so it's a treat for us to have her here tonight. She is constantly doing good things for others, but she goes about it quietly and humbly. I admire her courage and her faithfulness, and I'm grateful for her friendship."

the club's February meeting where Louise was the club's dinner guest. Louise cared for a brain injured young woman for over 20 years and cautioned the group to remember that just because a patient is brain injured, she is not brain dead. She emphasized communicating with the person as you would another colleague or friend. The Pilot Club of Carrollton has recognized one or more caregivers each month at their meetings and will be recognizing a group of 25 caregivers at it's May meeting, providing an evening of dinner and entertainment.
PC Roanoke Valley
▶ The Pilot Club of Roanoke Valley, NC District, had a community project for Interna-
tional Care and Kindness Week. As a club we purchased food and prepared 44 bag lunches for the week end after Thanksgiving for Meals on Wheels. The program was not providing food for the 44 people receiving meals that weekend, and the Pilot Club was asked if we would like to take on the project. Each bag consisted of canned chicken and tuna, instant oatmeal and grits, 2 cans of soup, crackers, cookies, pudding, applesauce, and pork and beans for a total cost of approximately $7.50 per bag. The total cost of the entire project was approximately $300 which Pilots gave to provide the food. The food was purchased and bags were fixed and delivered to the Jo Storey Senior Citizens Center in order to be carried with the meals to the recipients. This was a very needed project and helped the community to be sure the citizens had food during the holidays.

PilotCares South Carolina PC Bishopville
▶ The Pilot Club of Bishopville. SC, awarded its first ever “Care-
giver of the Year” award to a very special caregiver, Roy Atkinson. Roy was recognized during a Pilot Club fund-raiser. Roy’s son, Derrick, suffered a traumatic brain injury in an automobile accident in 1984 when he was seven years old. He was not expected to live and could do nothing but swallow following the accident, but his father never gave up. Derrick has come a long way, but has used a wheelchair ever since the accident. Before presenting Roy with a plaque, Pilot Club President Elizabeth Kremer said Atkinson is the “...epitome of a caregiver. He has cared for Derrick and done so many things that have helped not only Derrick, but also other children with special needs as well.” Kremer said the award is consistent with the club’s primary focus, which is helping people with brain-related disorders. “And we recognize that almost everyone in this gym tonight has been a caregiver at some point in their life,” said Kremer. “Whether it’s to a special needs child, an elderly relative or whether it’s your profession. This award was created to recognize those very special caregivers.” While Roy is not his son’s only caregiver, he has done “extraordinary” things to help Derrick live a fuller life, “...and all that Roy has done has also benefited so many others,” Kremer said. In 2008 the Pilot Club of Bishopville donated an aquatic lift for the swimming pool at Camp Burnt Gin with a matching grant from Pilot International. The camp is a summer camp for children with special needs from all over the state of South Carolina. Derrick attended the camp for fifteen years, and Roy and Derrick were the club’s inspiration for that donation. Roy also invented the “Washtar” a few years ago. Derrick wanted to play the guitar like his father, so Roy invented a washboard guitar on which Derrick can make music. They formed a group, C & D Gospel Ministry, featuring Roy, Derrick and Charley Whiteaker, Derrick’s friend who suffers from Down Syndrome. Derrick wanted to play more than just the harmonica in the group’s band. Playing the harmonica began as therapy for Derrick, through which he

developed a love for music. Roy patented his ‘Washtar’ invention, and the Pilots donated five Washtars to Camp Burnt Gin for the campers to make their own music. Roy says the Washtar can be played with either hand, is always in tune, and may be in rhythm. “His invention is helping children all across this state,” Kremer said. “The most recent thing Roy has done is create a transfer unit to help Derrick go from his wheelchair to basically anywhere he wants.” He has a Hoyer lift at home but making public appearances with his group is difficult because of access to public and private restrooms and other areas. The Pilots’ motto ”Do More, Care More, Be More” defines Atkinson. This well deserved honor was given to Roy appropriately at a fund raiser for the SC District Project, Camp Burnt Gin. Roy visits the camp every summer to entertain. Roy’s wife, Sally, served as the camp nurse for several years and his other son, John, served as a counselor. The Pilot Club of Bishopville was proud to honor this special caregiver. An emotional Atkinson thanked the Pilot Club for the honor. “Derrick is my inspiration,” he said. “He is the one who has been 'tried and tested.'"

Riverview Pilot Club President Robin Porta said, “This event was a huge success for a first time event, and everyone had a great time. Participants uncorked their artistic talents and inner creativity, painting some beautiful masterpieces.” The Riverview Club raised $5,000 from the event, the 50/50 raffle and wine chance drawing. Proceeds will benefit future Riverview Pilot Club projects. The event was so popular and well attended that the Club is considering making this an annual event.

Pilot Walk." In Japan, we hold our Pilot walk on the second Sunday of October every year. Last year, five clubs from the Tokyo area got together and held a joint Pilot walk entitled the “Friendly Tokyo Pilot Walk” at Tokyo Kitanomaru Park. The clubs invited 200 physically disabled and mentally challenged people including some in wheel chairs. They had a clown and other characters performing for them at the event. Everyone seemed to have very good time. The past governor Chizuru Kawabata was the Walk Committee Chairperson.
▶ Three years have passed since the Great
Earthquake and Tsunami hit the eastern part of Japan, yet the investigation of missing persons and of destruction of buildings still continues. The number of temporary housing units remains the same, and the media reports radioactive concentrations every day as routine matters, such as weather forecasts, especially in Fukushima, where the damaged nuclear power plant is located. A facility for disabled persons located in the area had to relocate elsewhere. Removal of debris and decontamination efforts are slowly progressing, and the disabled are forced to stay in makeshift temporary housing. The Fukushima Pilot Club is continuing to support the disabled and their families, hoping for the day when they can go back to stable and safe living. When we go outside of the prefecture, we sometimes feel that people have forgotten that we experienced such a disaster and life goes on as if nothing had happened… Yet, the people in Fukushima are forced to live with the problems associated with radioactivity for the foreseeable future, perhaps tens of years. We hope that all the people in Japan feel and recognize the need to protect children and their future together.

However, there were only a few women at first so others were invited to join the group. This project has become an ecumenical community project with ladies from the Presbyterian Church, Methodist Church, Roman Catholic Church, and the Episcopal Church. One gentleman is a regular participant in the group. Judy McWhorter, KY-OH-WV District Member is an original member of this group. Marie Gravely, Pilot Club of Danville, VA joined the group shortly after its inception. To date we have made and sent either to Michigan for distribution or to the Rev. Participants meet once a month at Christ Church for an 8:30 AM breakfast followed by two hours of sewing and fellowship. A small toy and pair of underwear is placed in the pocket of each dress/shorts. The project is funded through donations and two fundraisers – a chili dinner and a raffle of items. The church has held “Undies Sundays” in order to get underwear. Individual donations of pillowcases as well as support from civic groups such as Delta Kappa Gamma and KY-OH-WV District Pilot Clubs and the Hampton Inn have enabled this project to flourish. Pillowcases donated by the Hampton Inn are tie-dyed by the Girl Scout troop sponsored by Christ Episcopal Church. Recently the group has added a tote bag as part of our outreach. The tote bags contain personal care items and are distributed to homeless shelters and safe houses for victims of domestic violence or rape.

The club celebrates special occasions by purchasing dog toys, treats and daily cleaning supplies. After several visits to the facility, the Dayton Club decided to purchase a much needed TonoVet Tonometer pen used to measure dogs for glaucoma. This device makes it possible to do the procedure on site rather than incurring veterinarian fees, All members worked hard selling caramel corn and hair bows to meet the goal. They speak frankly about the circumstances and choices that Sean made which placed him in a wheelchair, now unable to talk or walk. Even though Sean’s voice is silent, his message can be heard loud and clear! But their story doesn't stop there. They share the life they lead now, and the faith and purpose that have allowed them to move from victims to victors! What Would You Do??? What do you do when your brain no longer tells your body how to walk or talk, when even the simple act of swallowing is forgotten? What do you do when you can no longer control your body and do such basic things as telling it to take a deep breath? If you are Sean Carter, you take the opportunity to tell others about the dangers of risky behavior. You tell others that there is Life After Brain Injury. You tell others, never, ever, ever, give up! Sean and Jenny have been giving powerful presentations to groups since 2007. For more information about Sean Carter see www.whenseanspeaks.com.

mhridgway@gmail.com
Well the time has come for me to hang up my hat as your official International Anchor Coordinator, but that by no means says that I am no longer available as a source of reference on our Anchor Organization – my love for the Anchors will live on forever!! I have enjoyed the past two years working with our Anchors and many Pilots who have the same love for our Anchors as I do, those memories will bring a smile to my heart for years to come. As I close this chapter in my life, I wanted to remind you of a few important things regarding the Anchors. They are the future of Pilot and we need to support them today – have you heard that recently? There are many ways that Pilots can support the Anchors – both hands on and financially – the choice is yours. One important thing for us to do is get them more involved in our Organization as a whole. This means getting them to the District Pilot Conventions, the District Anchor Conventions and International Anchor Summit. I know the costs can add up, but fund raising is what Pilots do best; so why not raise some funds to support our Anchors. Ask your Pilots at a District Convention to donate a few dollars each, allow your District Anchors to sell tickets for a 50/50 raffle at your Fall Council and District Convention, ask your Club to put a line item in the Club Budget to support the Anchors – every dollar makes a difference! When sending an Anchor to the International Anchor Summit, make sure to take advantage of the FREE money offered by Pilot International. There is a Leadership Grant per Pilot District for $500 that can be used for expenses to attend the International Anchor Summit. PI will also pay the registration for one Anchor to attend the International Anchor Summit as your District Representative and cover up to $250 of travel expenses as well. These two items can be used for the same person or a couple of Anchors. If you need more details on these items, please get with Jennifer Whitehead the Anchor Specialist at PIHQ for the details – it is FREE money that helps cover the expenses, please don’t let it go to waste!!! The other big expense is the hotel room, so maybe Jennifer can help find other Anchors to room with or have your Anchor room with you; this will be a great opportunity for you to mentor an Anchor for the week. Also talk with Jennifer about starting an Anchor District within your Pilot District if you don’t already have one. Per PI Policy #405 there are no limitations as to the number of Anchor Clubs or Anchor Members needed in order to form an Anchor District – your DAC/DEC simply needs to vote to make it happen. Jennifer will be happy to walk you through this process, so make sure to reach out to her.

Fundraising Coordinator Cathy Gore,
cathypilot@gmail.com Chicago was a BLAST! Thank you for all your donations and support of the PI fundraisers. I have enjoyed serving as PI Fundraising Coordinator this year and hope you were able to pick up some tips and ideas to help your clubs and Districts in your fundraising activities through PI publications and information. I would like to highlight a few
tips: 1. Fundraising should be FUN! Fun for your members and fun for your supporters. 2. Your fundraising activity should be appropriate for your club membership, time commitment needed and profitability. 3. Get your Pilot members involved. Everyone should be involved and everyone can do something to support the club. My club’s successful fundraiser is the People, Pets and Pilot Event. Our club has 17 members, our community population is around 100,000 people, and we raised $6,580 this year. People, Pets and Pilot consists of three phases. The first phase is Sponsorships. We have developed a sponsorship menu with donations ranging from one-thousand dollars to one-hundred dollars and at each level the sponsor will receive more prominent ad placement in our marketing materials and newspaper advertising. The second phase consists of participants registering their pets for a photo session with a local photographer for a fee of $15. If you don’t have a pet we offer sponsorships of Humane Society pets. These photos assist the Humane Society in pet adoption. The photographer received the $15 and schedules the photo session. The participants will receive an 11 x 14 portrait. And finally, the third phase is a two-week photo display at a local bank of all the pets’ photos and monetary donations are collected for the favorite photo. During this time, the community will vote in cash and checks on the best photo. During the Fundraising Workshop Lynne Glair (lynneglair@aol.com) of North Myrtle Beach Pilot Club, South Carolina District, shared tips on their successful fashion show fundraiser, Angela Rahming (angeerah@hotmail.com) of the Pilot Club of pilotinternational.org

ARE YOU PASSIONATE? DO YOU LOVE WHAT YOU DO?
Of all the qualities a leader can have, passion is one of the most important. Passion is something you cannot fake. It starts in the soul and is fueled by the belief that what you are doing is important. You need to love what you do. You have to lie in bed dreaming about it and wake up ready to throw yourself into it. President Lyndon B. Johnson asserted," What convinces is conviction. Believe in the argument you're advancing. If you don't, you're as good as dead. The other person will sense that something isn't there, and no chain of reasoning, no matter how logical or elegant or brilliant, will win your case for you." Passion needs the partner courage. You need both at the starting point of your journey -- passion to find the idea and courage to start. Passion also gives you staying power, and that is critical because sustaining is more difficult that starting. Passion also helps you become an effective promoter of Pilot. In your voice there will be excitement, your eyes will blaze with enthusiasm, and your hands gesture with emphasis. As a leader, you must believe in Pilot, so much that you feel compelled to talk about it. That your passion will sizzle with words and convince others to join our cause. So find your passion, as to "WHY" you LOVE Pilot.
