with origins well before that year. Learn to use all the categories of information recorded in every column of the 1880 census to your full advantage. FINDING FAMILY IN PRE-1850 CENSUS RECORDS AND CENSUS SUBSTITUTES Thursday, March 5, 10:00 am Meeting Room A | Sara Allen
Don’t let pre-1850 census records intimidate you! Learn how to evaluate the household data and narrow down results by age, sex, and location. If no census is available, census substitutes such as tax records, petitions, and militia lists can be used. Use these sources to successfully track ancestors through the decades when other genealogical records are scarce. WE ALL DESERVE A SECOND CHANCE! TAKING ANOTHER LOOK AT THE EARLY RECORDS IN OUR FILES Friday, March 6, 10:00 am Meeting Room A | Dawne Slater
In the early days of our research – and in our late-night Internet research marathon sessions – we might not have gleaned every clue we could from the records we gathered. This session will begin with a presentation on re-examining records to identify all of the clues they can provide, and continue with audience participation – suggestions of ways early records, particularly those generated pre-1850, can help us with our research. Come ready to share your success stories! HISTORY AND RECORDS OF INDIANA’S ‘GORE’ Saturday, March 7, 10:00 am Meeting Room A | Tina Lyons
