SYMPOSIUM OVERVIEW We invite you to support the 2020 Spring Regional Collegiate Symposiums, which will take place in key cities. The symposiums will bring together Latino students in all career majors for a day of insight, guidance, leadership skills and professional development opportunities, which will provide an edge in today’s competitive job market. The objective of this year’s symposiums is to have students take a proactive approach to defining and plotting their career paths, while developing flexible skillsets adaptable to various industries. Through a series of interactive sessions, participants will learn how to discover their potential, find their niche, market themselves, and secure an internship or job offer. This is a great opportunity for your company to engage with the next generation of Latino professionals, showcase your company, and build brand awareness. The symposium will provide ample opportunity to network with high caliber students and discover the faces of tomorrow’s Latino leaders. Sponsors will have direct access to top ALPFA student leaders, representing universities in the region.

STUDENT CRITERIA • Classification: freshmen-seniors from 4-year universities/colleges; community college students (with intent to transfer to a 4-year University); full-time first-year graduate students; and select groups of high school students (5-10% of the total attendees will be in this group)

OVERVIEW ALPFA’s Leadership Development Program is ALPFA’s premier emerging leaders training program. Based on it’s proprietary Leadership, Engagement, Advancement and Development Value Circle (L.E.A.D. VC) framework, it offers a holistic approach to personal and professional growth revolving around 6 Pillars: Domain Competency, Social Engagement, Community Engagement, Wealth Creation, Health & Wellness, and Entrepreneurship/Intrapreneurship. Students will learn from your industry experts, interact with other emerging student leaders, engage in thought provoking discussions, benefit from group coaching sessions, and enhance their skills in multiple areas of life and career domains from your workshop presentations.

DESCRIPTIONS OF L.E.A.D. CATEGORY SEGMENTS
Domain Competency – Building expertise in your field Skills, abilities, and knowledge required by an individual to succeed in particular areas of their professional career. For students, these “hard skills” may be in functional and technical knowledge, business acumen, product and application mastery, methodology and framework proficiency, certifications. Workshops that develop expertise in Six Sigma, MS Excel, Programming, Statistical Analysis or other proficiencies are included here. Social Engagement – Creating social awareness for better communication Personal attributes necessary to succeed when working with others. These are usually referred to as “soft skills” and for students would include, to name a few, communications, meal etiquette, self-branding, authenticity in the workplace. Community Engagement – Giving back to your community Develop, support, and enable our members to effectively engage with the community in order to make a difference and achieve long-term goals. Adding value to the community can be achieved in many different ways: individual contribution, team engagement, partnerships with other entities, and organization commitment at the local, regional, and national level. For students, workshops that help identify an organization that matches your passion, or how to advocate for your community are included here. Wealth Creation – Building long-term wealth and managing debt Strategic and tactical efforts to educate, support, and provide the necessary knowledge and tools to enable students in their journey to financial freedom. Wealth creation spans across strategies and actions leading to stable positions in savings, retirement, and investments. Workshops that develop skills in saving and budgeting, building a credit score, modelling a credit card or loan, and insurance basics would be included here. Health & Wellness – Optimizing your well-being Personal wellbeing via the active process of becoming aware of and making choices toward a healthy and fulfilling life. This can be achieved through strategies and techniques such as nutrition, exercise, mental wellness, healthy living, and preventive care. Workshops that discuss leveraging tech to improve wellness, how to manage cultural expectations that conflict with wellness lifestyles, and understanding the benefits of a healthy body and mind would be included here. Entrepreneurs/Intrapreneurs – Empowering the next generation of innovative business leaders Educate, encourage, enable, and support the entrepreneurial and intrapreneurial mindsets by providing the necessary knowledge, tools, and role models to accelerate their progress, minimize risks, and reach their goals. Providing the “know-how” to manage the financial, operational, legal, contractual, human resources, and marketing aspects of a business. Workshops that discuss crowdfunding, access to capital, and tax and legal obligations would be included here, as well as maintaining an entrepreneurial mindset in a corporate environment.
