tackle your outcome You’ve decided to follow your bliss and unlock your full potential. You can’t wait to share it with the world. You’ve made your list of outcomes and broken down the steps you need to take to get you to your goal. But after the newness wears off of your initial excitement and the real work begins, it’s easy to begin allowing the tasks you need to take to change your life slide off the radar. Reaching your full potential takes consistent effort. Here are some ways you can be more successful at effectively tackling your outcomes to live the life you want.
Beware old habits You may find yourself going on autopilot and not making much headway towards your new goals once the initial excitement is over. This is the time when old habits can hold you back. You will need to be conscious of old ways of thinking and doing things so you can change those habits to align with your ideal outcomes.
Remind yourself continually When life gets busy, it’s easy to forget about those important action items you have on your list to complete this week. Find ways to remind yourself throughout your day to those tasks so they don’t get overlooked. This is one of the ways you will build new habits for yourself. Set up reminders on your phone and put your list of tasks where you see it several times a day, like on your computer wallpaper on even on a sticky note. Use one of the task tracker apps available and check into it at set times during the day.
Change your schedule You are probably going to need to make some time in your schedule for working through your outcome tasks. That means a change is needed to ensure the items get checked off your list. Find ways to utilize the downtime you have to make your dream life a reality. Remove some of the ways you used to spend your time to make room for the important tasks that will bring about the changes you want in your life.
Track your success If you don’t track the actions you take and the strategies you use, it’s going to be much more difficult to reach your goal. You’ll find you lose focus when you aren’t measuring your efforts against how much return you are getting on your investment. It doesn’t matter if you track your action steps on an app, a spreadsheet or a spiral notebook, as long as you’re doing it.

INTERVIEW WITH
Kathryn Starke TELL US YOUR STORY: I have been teaching for as long as I can remember. When I was nine-years-old, I started a tutoring business teaching preschool and kindergarten children in my neighborhood early literacy skills. I went to Longwood University, known for its school of education, and after graduation accepted my first teaching job in an inner-city elementary school in Richmond, Virginia. I realized very quickly that over half of my second grade students read significantly below grade level, which sadly is not unusual in low-income areas. While teaching full time, I went back to school to earn my master's degree in literacy and culture to become an elementary school reading specialist. During my educational journey from classroom teacher to reading specialist, and district literacy coach, I wrote my first children's book and started Creative Minds Publications, an educational publishing company.
I wrote Amy's Travels to fill a hole; it became the first children's picture book to teach the seven continents. The example of Latina children's literature was selected as a recommended title by the California Department of Education, implemented in classrooms and events in over 26 countries on 6 continents, and was turned into a musical by the Latin Ballet of Virginia. As an author, I started speaking at educational conferences and elementary school literacy nights, which led to literacy consulting opportunities. I became the guest author and literacy advocate for the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation and wrote my second book, Tackle Reading. This educational resource is part of an annual literacy event supported by the NFL and NFL Alumni. Today, through my company, I help fellow teacher authors publish engaging and educational children's books and materials. I travel around the country helping challenge and failing schools become fully accredited in reading and achieve literacy success, often in one school year. As a freelance educational writer, consultant, and adjunct professor, I am able to expand my reach beyond the classroom and teach the world to read. We have so much work to do!

CREATIVE MINDS PUBLICATIONS Has it been easy? I believe that challenges and failures are a necessary part of an entrepreneur's journey. When I first started out in publishing, many people in the industry called my book and company "cute" and didn't take my mission very seriously. Fifteen years ago, independent publishing was not as commonplace as it is today, especially in children's books. When I began my educational speaking career, many veterans in the field suggested I was too young to be taken seriously. One thing I have learned is that people can't argue with results. I continued to press forward and help as many children, teachers, and schools that would work with me. All of these individuals, in one form or another, have made an impact on where I am today.
Tell Us about your business: Creative Minds Publications is a literacy based educational company. We create engaging and educational children's books and materials to motivate, support, and inspire students, teachers, families, and schools. Outside of our award winning books, we are known as a leader in urban literacy education. We help challenge and failing elementary schools across the country achieve reading success. We create personalized professional development and side-by-side consulting opportunities to support the literacy needs of any school or nonprofit organization. We have helped increase literacy rates and teacher retention by helping educators become more confident and competent in teaching reading.

advice for aspiring entrepreneurs?
Everyone has a story to tell and a gift to give. It's up to you to determine how it should be shared. If you can visualize your business in action, put it in the work and don't give up. You are the most important person in bringing your business to life.
Any Future Plans? We have so much work to do in literacy not only in our country, but also around the world. I am currently working on some new books as an author and publisher. I love helping new authors bring their story to life. Our fourth annual Tackle Reading event to Read Across America kicks off March 2020 and continues to grow. We have also added EdTech to expand our company's educational mission ; we have created the first literacy application to simulate the one-onone reading experience between student and teacher.

4 SIGNS THAT IT IS TIME TO ADJUST YOUR MINDSET
Ultimately, how you look at your life, is what will make you happy or unhappy. When you are consumed with negative thoughts and beliefs, you will discover that you are unhappy with your life. Eventually, your perception of the world will become your reality. This is why changing your mindset is so important because it will make a substantial difference in your life. Here are four signs that it’s time for you to change your mindset. You Focus on Everything That’s Wrong A sure indication that you need to shift your mindset is when you continuously fix your attention on the disappointments and worry in your life. To change this mindset, you need to take some time to think about the things you are thankful for in your life. This will help to keep the negative thoughts from overwhelming your perspective.
You Refuse to Face the Truth Complaining all the time about reality won't change anything. Always complaining about your life is your refusal to acknowledge and accept the truth. There are things in your life that you just won't be able to change, and refusing to see reality, will result in you no longer being able to separate fact from fiction. To change this, you have to take action and change those things that you can change and accept those things that you can't change. You Become Angry When Your Expectations Aren’t Met A large part of your mindset consists of your expectations. These are what you believe to be possible and necessary. If you are always angry with the people in your life because they aren't meeting your expectations, it means that you have unrealistic expectations to start with. It is our expectations that lay the groundwork for our experiences, but if you have unrealistic expectations for yourself and those around you, you will never be satisfied with your life. Always Seeing Yourself as the Victim When you always see yourself as the victim, you are hindering your ability to change things and create a better life for yourself. A victim mentality is typically a by-product of low self-esteem. If you want to change your mindset, you have to reject the victim role and start building something better for your life.
Changing your mindset isn’t always easy, but it is one of the most powerful things that you can do for yourself. Learn how to recognize when you have a negative mindset and make the necessary changes to become more positive.

Sometimes it’s better to be a master of one discipline than a jack of all trades. Admittedly, multiple revenue streams do spread your risk: if one falters, others can take up the slack. Nevertheless, consumers often associate ‘specialists’ with higher quality products or services than generalists. And with good reason, too: specialists typically invest all their resources into perfecting a single product or service. So what should you specialize in? To state the obvious, it should be something in which you excel. You could also pick something with rising or recession-proof demand which is resilient to technological change in which you possess a competitive advantage over your rivals or where there’s an obvious gap in your local market. Own it, whatever you do.
