The federal gun control law passed in 1993 known as the Brady Bill mandates federal background checks on gun buyers, but around 40 percent of all gun sales in the U.S. are estimated to be private transactions that don’t require background checks. The “gun show loophole” allows people to buy guns from unlicensed dealers at a gun show or elsewhere without universal background checks.

In February, 2016 several leading health associations issued a call to action asking Congress to develop policies that would reduce the incidences of gun violence. Many of the recommendations look similar to those proposed by gun-control advocates – including limiting the availability of assault weapons and closing loopholes that exist in background checks for those who buy guns at gun shows or from dealers.

In only about five years since the Sandy Hook Elementary school shooting which occurred on December 14, 2012 and until the massacre of Orlando, Florida; in June 2016, gun violence has claimed the lives of more than 95,000 American based on recent studies.

Enough is Enough: Congress must take reasonable commonsense steps to make our communities safe. Until then, we are staying under the horror of GUN VIOLENCE.

The United States presidential elections have brought about an intense struggle among the two major political party candidates: Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.

While the mainstream national media has the spotlight on these two candidates, they have failed to mention other candidates who are also in the race for president such as Independent Presidential Candidate Souraya Faas.

Souraya Faas is the first woman of Arab origin to be running for president of the United States. In an exclusive interview with Alwaseat Magazine Miss Faas stated that the American Citizens have lost faith and trust in their politicians. Everyone makes empty promises in order to get elected and in the end they only push their own agenda. According to Miss Faas Americans are tired of the two-party system which divide our nation rather than creating solutions. "America is in need of a president who will unite our great nation not divide it." Running as an independent Souraya explains that she is able to take the best of what each party has to offer along with her knowledge to bring forth a new approach and ideas in order to find solutions both domestically and internationally.

"It’s the situations in which we are living in today is what inspired me to run for president", Miss Faas told Alwaseat Magazine "It is the few with their own intrests that are dictating the faith of the majority". The two party system is not working for the people, it is working only for politicians and corporations that keep them in power. Souraya hopes to foster a sense of peace and harmony not just in the hearts of the American Citizens but throughout the world.

Souraya Faas message is a message of Unity, according to Miss Faas this country needs to be reunited with the principals in which it was founded by the father President George Washington.

That is why my campaign is a campaign “By The People, For The People” because in the end it’s about 'The People'.”

When asked if being of arab origin has had any negative impact on her campaign, Miss Faas stated no on the contrary that her diverse culture and understanding of various languages has given her the ability to reach a large number of support from the most liberal of the Democrats to the most conservative of the Republicans who are comprising on key issues and working together to help her in her race to become the first woman president of the United States.

Biography Souray Faas was born on December 19, 1981 in New York city to a middle-class family from Aleppo, Syria . She lived the first years of her life in Brooklyn, New York and then moved to Miami, Florida.

While working in the field of education for 16 years; she won numerous awards and recognitions at an early age due to her superiority as public speaker and researcher in addition to her participation in many of the service based activities in the region.

She received a Bachelor Degree in Political Science from Florida International University: minor in International Relations & Certified in European studies in 2001. She continued her education and received a Graduate Certification in Regional Studies specializing in Middle East & Latin American Comparative Politics in 2003 , and another Graduate Certification in Asian studies specializing in Middle Eastern studies in 2005 She received a Master's degree in Political Sciences and Sociology in 2006.

Souraya is fluent in English, Arabic, and Spanish languages and also understands French and Italian.
