PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti _ Haitian electoral authorities say they expect to hold a late December presidential runoff as scheduled even though there’s been deep public suspicion of first-round results here and abroad. Mosler Georges is executive director of Haiti’s Provisional Electoral Council. He tells reporters that “everything is ready’’ for the Dec. 27 runoff between leading presidential candidate Jovenel Moise and No. 2 finisher Jude Celestin. But Haitian rights groups, independent observers and nearly every political faction except the one led by outgoing President Michel Martelly has alleged rampant fraud. Celestin has dismissed the results as a “ridiculous farce.’’ The council has brushed off the criticism. Georges also said Monday that overdue final results in legislative elections will be announced Thursday. Those runoffs are also scheduled for Dec. 27. The Associated Press

Jamaica activist files rare legal challenge to island laws criminalizing sex between men
Toronto city councillor and Twitter phenomenon Norm Kelly has been named Canada’s Most Valuable Tweeter. Kelly beat runner-up Justin Bieber by a margin of two-to-one, garnering more than 34,000 votes. He also beat Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, teen idol Shawn Mendes and Montreal Canadiens player P.K. Subban in the official Twitter Canada poll. The long-time councillor once served as a Liberal MP under former prime minister Pierre Trudeau _ Justin’s father _ and as deputy mayor under Rob Ford. But now, he’s better known among millenials for his Twitter presence. Most famously, the 74-year-old involved himself in a feud between hip hop artist Meek Mill and Toronto rapper Drake, when he told Meek Mill that he was no longer welcome in Toronto. That tweet was shared more than 130,000 times. Kelly now has more than 200,000 followers on Twitter. The Canadian Press

Neither leader had issued a statement early Thursday. The ULP has touted construction of the island’s first large international airport, as well as developments in education and housing. The NDP, meanwhile, has criticized government spending and pledged to improve infrastructure and create jobs for the youth.

CONAKRY, Guinea _ Guinea’s President Alpha Conde has been sworn in for a second five-year term in a ceremony under heavy military and police security. Conde’s second term begins weeks before the West African country hopes to mark itself free from Ebola transmission. The deadly disease killed more than 2,500 people in Guinea. Conde on Monday, before 1,500 people including dignitaries and politicians, dedicated his second term to helping women and children, and fighting corruption. Rights groups have called on Conde to use his second term to intensify the fight against the impunity of security forces who are accused of abuses. Conde was re-elected in October in only the second democratic presidential contest since Guinea gained independence from France in 1958. Violence marked the run-up to the poll but eventually subsided.

“USE YOUR VOTE TO EFFECT CHANGE & HOLD GOV’T TO ACCOUNT” – HOLNESS SAYS TO YOUNG VOTERS

JLP ACCEPTS JULIET HOLNESS AS CANDIDATE
of our youth and those in the ranks of the uncommitted believe that it is a legitimate protest not to vote. Some believe it is their civic duty no to vote. But in doing that, what they do is to condemn Jamaica to a future of no progress, no growth and no change for the better.”
Speaking at the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) constituency conference at the Stony Hill Primary School in West Rural St. Andrew on Sunday, Opposition Leader Andrew Holness appealed to young people to be agents of change and participate in the political process by exercising their right to vote. He encouraged young voters to look to the JLP for governance that is accountable, effective and responsive to the needs of the nation’s youth where employment, access to credit for entrepreneurship, skills training and education opportunities are concerned.
Mr. Holness says participating in the political process and taking an active interest in the governance of the country is the attitude the Jamaican youth must adopt. Mr. Holness said: “Sometimes the promises have not been delivered. Many times you have been disappointed, but our democracy cannot work if you decide not to vote. Not voting doesn’t change anything. What not voting does is to allow those who are in power [and] not doing anything to remain in power and continue to do nothing.” The Opposition Leader remarked: “Unfortunately, some
Holness continued: “The only way that we are going to change Jamaica; the only way that better will come; the only way that your life is going to get better is when the leaders know that you [the electorate] are going to hold them to account. When the leaders know that you are going to get up and walk to that polling station and mark your ‘X’ on that ballot and drop it in the box, that’s the only way change is going to come.” Mr. Holness went on to emphasize that he wants young voters to look to the JLP and entrust the leadership of the country to him, not merely out of discontent for the present government, but more so because the JLP has presented a vision and a plan for Jamaica’s development that is “bankable, actionable and credible”.
Dr. Horace Chang, General Secretary of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has reported that Juliet Holness, wife of Andrew Holness, former PM and Opposition Leader. has been tipped to oppose the PNP candidate for the Constituency of East Rural St. Andrew which is a marginal seat. It is one of 22 seats which will decide the outcome of the next General Election. Juliet Holness is an Accountant/Real Estate Developer. She has two boys and has been described as a "political animal". Her astute qualities, and affable personality makes her an attractive choice. In a Vision Exclusive, outgoing candidate Senator Alexander Williams broke his silence and
told Vision's SIC that he did not "get the traction he needed, hence resigning". He was leaving the Senate when we caught up with him. "I endorse Juliet Holness and think she will do well". PM said she will be beaten by PNP candidate. Marginal Seat Ten times that seat was contested JLP won 4 times. This is a predominantly farming area with strong JLP support. It could swing any way. JLP GENERAL SECRETARY LODGES FORMAL COMPLAINT WITH POLITICAL OMBUDSMAN AGAINST MP DWAYNE VAZ FOR “LOAD UP DI GUN” COMMENT. people against each other and tears communities apart. We are gravely concerned therefore that an elected representative could even think to say such a thing on an advertised public political platform, let alone say it, and in the wake of such an utterance, there is no immediate public rebuke or dissociation from the PNP with which he is affiliated.”
General Secretary of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), Dr. Horace Chang, has lodged a formal complaint with the Political Ombudsman following a call by Central Westmoreland Member of Parliament, Dwayne Vaz, during his address at a mass meeting in St. James on Thursday, for supporters of the people’s National Party (PNP) to “load up di gun dem”, which he says is a clear breach of the political code of conduct which could serve to incite political violence. The JLP General Secretary is also calling on the PNP hierarchy to rein in its members and to discipline Mr. Dwayne Vaz in particular for his reckless and irresponsible utterance. Dr. Chang said: "I was shocked when I head the comment. I cannot believe a Member of Parliament would instruct his supporters to ‘load up di gun’.” These are the inflammatory words spoken by Mr. Dwayne Vaz: “Mi hear a
likkle ting guh dung roun’ a Granville tonight. I don’t get di full story suh I don’t really waah seh nutten. But mi hear some Labourite roun’ di corna a laugh an’ a talk seh how PNP office bun dung. Girl strength alone dem have. Eh? U see wah gwaan today? Unooh see wah gwaan today? Montego Bay, load up di gun!” In his letter to the Political Ombudsman, Dr. Chang said: “Our Party Leader, Andrew Holness, is leading by example and has set the tone that will guide our campaign and political activities in general. Violence or conduct that could incite people to violence is not part of the JLP’s political strategy. It is something we must never condone as it pits our
Chang’s letter continued: “Dwayne Vaz’s conduct represents a clear breach of the political code of conduct to which both the JLP and the PNP subscribe. We invite you to take an active interest in the matter as Political Ombudsman as incitement to violence, especially gun violence, cannot be part of political life in modern Jamaica. For MP Vaz to have so conducted himself, it is evident that there is need for a further maturing of our politics and the level of respect for each other that would see us conducting our affairs in a dignified and incident-free manner.” Dr. Chang called on all political actors to be conscious of their action and words to ensure that the election campaign is peaceful. He says the Opposition Leader will be writing to Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller to express his concern and restate his call for a joint symbolic walk of communities to promote peace and political maturity.

Kingston, Jamaica: December 11, 2015 – State Minister in the Ministry of Tourism and Entertainment Hon. Damion Crawford has welcomed news that the push to have Kingston designated a Creative City of Music by UNESCO has yielded significant success. This comes on the heels of the official announcement by UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova, that Kingston was among 10 creative music cities which were designated this year. The designation resulted from a strategic partnership between the Ministry of Tourism and Entertainment through the Entertainment Advisory Board (EAB), the Tourism Enhancement
Fund (TEF) and the Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation (KSAC) and other stakeholders. The Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF) has provided over $ 3.4 million to date to support the venture. The process was initiated by the Ministry’s Entertainment Advisory Board in 2013 and was aimed at ensuring that Kingston becomes a member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, which focuses on resuscitating the economic viability of cities through arts, culture and community. The venture then received overwhelming support from the KSAC, which played a pivotal role in facilitating the successful submission of a formal application to
The detailed application was submitted on July 15, 2015 after several consultations spearheaded by the EAB and the KSAC with partners such as the Urban Development Corporation, University of the West Indies, Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts, Institute of Jamaica (IOJ) and the Planning Institute of Jamaica.

I am convinced that the designation will help to boost our efforts to position Kingston as a cultural city and will also enhance the appeal of Jamaica to travellers with a special interest in culture,” Minister Crawford expressed. Kendrick the King: Rapper leads Grammys with 11 nominations; Taylor Swift, Weeknd earn 7 nods Alabama Shakes, fronted by singer Brittany Howard, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard charts with “Sound & Color'' earlier this year, and the album was met with critical acclaim _ much like the band's 2012 debut, “Boys & Girls.'' Their four nominations include best alternative music album as well as best rock performance and song for “Don't Wanna Fight.'' Pharrell and West are also nominated for four awards, including album of the year for producing songs on Lamar's album. West's nominations include best rap song and rap performance for “All Day,'' which featured Paul McCartney and earned the icon two rap nominations.
NEW YORK _ Kendrick Lamar is the king of the Grammys: The rapper is the leading nominee for the 2016 awards with 11, including album of the year for “To Pimp a Butterfly'' and song of the year for ``Alright.'' Lamar, who won two Grammys earlier this year, is followed by Taylor Swift and the Weeknd, who each earned seven nominations, including album of the year. ”Butterfly,'' ''1989” and ''Beauty Behind the Madness” will battle country singer-songwriter Chris Stapleton's ''Traveller” and rock group Alabama Shakes' ''Sound & Color`` for the top prize. Lamar's “Alright'' and Swift's “Blank Space'' are nominated for song of the year, a songwriter's award. Other nominees include Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth's tribute to actor Paul Walker, “See You Again,'' Ed Sheeran's slow burner “Thinking out Loud'' and Little Big Town's semi-controversial hit, “Girl Crush,'' written by Lori McKenna, Hillary Lindsey and Liz Rose. “Thinking out Loud'' and “Blank Space,'' which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, are also nominated for record of the year, pitting the songs against No.1 hits that include Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars' “Uptown Funk'' and the Weeknd's “Can't Feel My Face,'' as well as a wild card: “Really Love'' from R&B singer D'Angelo and the Vanguard. “There's a broad spectrum and certainly it shows there's been quite a bit of wonderful and excellent recordings in
the last year,'' Recording Academy CEO Neil Portow said in an interview with The Associated Press. Lamar's other nominations include best rap album for “Butterfly,'' rap performance for “Alright,'' pop duo/group performance for “Bad Blood'' with Swift and dance recording “Never Catch Me'' with Flying Lotus. He's nominated twice for both best rap song with “Alright'' and for co-writing Kanye West's “All Day,'' as well as best music video for “Alright'' and “Bad Blood.'' “It's a testimony to his artistry,'' Portnow said of Lamar. “He's someone that's very serious about his art and about his craft, and has been working it for quite some time. And this is one of those instances where the work pays off.'' Swift, who won album of the year with “Fearless'' in 2010 and earned a nomination in the top category with “Red,'' is also up for best pop vocal album for her top-selling “1989'' and pop solo performance for “Blank Space.'' The Weeknd's nominations include best pop solo performance for “Can't Feel My Face'' and urban contemporary album for ``Beauty.'' His hit from the “Fifty Shades of Grey'' soundtrack _ “Earned It'' _ garnered nominations for best R&B performance, R&B song and song written for visual media. The film's soundtrack, which also featured the Ellie Goulding hit “Love Me Like You Do,'' is up for best compilation soundtrack for visual media along with “Empire: Season 1,'' which debuted at No.
1 on the Billboard charts earlier this year. More than 21,000 submissions were entered for the 83 Grammy categories, with the first round of votes due by Nov. 4 _ the day the Country Music Association Awards aired and Stapleton cleaned house and turned in a memorable performance alongside Justin Timberlake. In addition to album of the year, Stapleton's “Traveller'' is nominated for best country album, country song and country solo performance. Garth Brooks, who marked a comeback after 13 years last year, was surprisingly shut out of the country categories. Despite success with tours, albums and singles, Luke Bryan was also snubbed and has yet to earn a Grammy nomination. This year's best country album contenders include Little Big Town's “Pain Killer,'' Kacey Musgraves' “Pageant Material,'' Ashley Monroe's “The Blade'' and “Montevallo'' by singer-songwriter Sam Hunt, who is also nominated for best new artist. Other nominees include “All About That Bass'' performer Meghan Trainor, big-voiced singer Tori Kelly, Australian singer-songwriter Courtney Barnett and rock musician James Bay, who is also nominated for best rock album and rock song. Rapper Drake scored five nominations, including best rap album for “If You're Reading This It's Too Late,'' pitting him against Lamar, Dr. Dre's “Compton,'' Nicki Minaj's “The Pinkprint'' and J. Cole's “2014 Forest Hills Drive.''
Justin Bieber _ who marked a comeback this year with the hits “Sorry'' and “What Do You Mean'' _ is nominated for best dance recording for his other hit, “Where Are U Now'' with Skrillex and Diplo. Both Bieber and Adele's new albums will qualify for Grammy nominations next year since they were released after Sept. 30 _ the final day for eligibility this year. Other notable nominees include married duo Joey + Rory for best country duo/ group performance (they recently announced Joey is ending her cancer treatment after a recurrence of tumors); actress Amy Poehler with her first Grammy nomination for best spoken word album for “Yes Please''; and actor Seth MacFarlane for best traditional pop vocal album, competing with albums from Bob Dylan, Tony Bennett, Barry Manilow and Josh Groban. Saxophonist Jimmy Greene, the father of one of the children killed in the Sandy Hook school shooting, earned two nominations for an album inspired by his late daughter Ana Marquez-Greene. The 58th Grammys will air live on February 15, 2016, from the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Voting for the second round, completed by mail and starting next week, ends on January 15, 2016. Abby Dallas Dazzles at Weddy Weddy followed up From My Heart with her thought-provoking lovers rock hits He’s Just Not Into You and Nuh House Mouse, before launching into her dancehall catalogue with Extraordinary (I am that Girl), which earned her another round of forwards. On the strength of her performance at WeddyWeddy, she was invited to the Hitz 92FM Road Show in Bog Walk on December 5 by DJ Roderick Howell. She justified the Hitz Family’s confidence in her ability by again delivering another outstanding performance punctuated by many genuine forwards. Kingston, Jamaica (MPR Consulting) - One Jam Music’s recording artiste Abby Dallas showed why she is most deserving of her invite to Sting 2015 when she delivered a scintillating set at the Weddy Weddy leg of the RJR Communication’s Group Kingston Music Week on December 2. The emerging star, fresh off the Welcome to Jamrock Cruise earlier in the day, started her performance with a bit of wit, assuring Stone Love’s founder and Weddy Weddy host Father Pow that even if she had to jump off the ship and swim to the location, she would not have missed the opportunity to perform at this special edition of Weddy Weddy. She eased into the musical portion of her set with her hit reggae ballad From My Heart, which she dedicated to Father Pow. The Versatile Diva then
The artiste credits her rising popularity in town and country to her growing comfort and confidence that enable her to connect better with her audiences. Abby shared, “I think I'm now understanding my craft much better and getting into my comfort zone, so I'm now able to communicate better with my audience. I know I still have a way to go, so I work each day striving to do better. Folks should come out to Sting 2015, as I plan to put on a treat for my fans.” Those interested in learning what the buzz around Abby Dallas is about can check out another of her musical treats: her recently released DESTINED MIXTAPE, hosted by DJ Kurt Riley, is available for free download on her facebook fanpage, www.facebook. com/AbbyDallasMusic

Kelly Rowland goes on quest to discover superstar girl group in upcoming BET series
ATLANTA _ If fans are anticipating a Destiny's Child reunion album, Kelly Rowland says don't expect one anytime soon. These days, Rowland is focused on recording solo music and filming a documentary series called ”Chasing Destiny,'' which premieres on BET in April. She completed a three-city quest in New York, Atlanta and Los Angeles with veteran choreographer Frank Gatson _ who serves as Beyonce and Rowland's creative director _ auditioning talent in
hopes of finding the next superstar girl group. “I don't care where they are, where they live, where they're from, their background _ I just want to make sure that I have girls in the group who are not afraid to work, who are excited about a great opportunity, who have goals and think, and breathe, and sleep music,'' Rowland said in an interview last week. The Grammy winner said she
wants to create a girl group for this generation of music fans. The pop charts currently include Fifth Harmony, who had a major hit this year with “Worth It,'' and British group Little Mix, who won “The X Factor'' in 2011 and released their third album last month. But Rowland believes there's room for more. “When Destiny's Child was around I remember there was Xscape, there was SWV, there

Rowland said she and Gatson aren't sure how many girls will be selected for the group. Gatson said he already held two secret audition sessions in New Orleans and New York without Rowland, in hopes of finding more candidates. More than 70 prospects auditioned for them in each city.
“It takes me back to those days when we were grinding and being moulded,'' said Rowland, who will release a solo album next year. “I think this is the most beautiful moments. The fun part is getting to know these girls (and) being able to share my stories.''
“We have to search under every rock,'' said Gaston, who groomed Destiny's Child and also choreographed routines for Michael Jackson and Jennifer Lopez. “There has to be another Michael Jackson out there. Theater review: Cynthia Erivo and Jennifer Hudson blow the roof off in 'The Color Purple'
NEW YORK _ To those who question why a revival of ``The Color Purple'' is back on Broadway after its predecessor closed there only in 2008, the answer is two words, and it may not be the two words you expect. Cynthia Erivo. She is an absolute marvel in the lead role of Celie, playing her at first with defeated deference, then indignation and then righteous might. Her voice lifts the roof off the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre. There are times you forget Jennifer Hudson also is onstage. The musical adaptation of Alice Walker's Pulitzer Prize-winning tale of female empowerment opened Thursday. It's the John Doyle-directed revival that premiered at London's Menier Chocolate Factory in 2013.
and much more.
Doyle is known for his minimalist techniques, stripping away production elements and cutting bloat. True to form, the set here consists mostly of wooden chairs, which are used to create a bathtub, a juke joint, a jail
The cleverness of the ploy wears a little thin toward the end. Another effect that's also decidedly lowtech does not: the use of sheets to represent Africa and, in one marvelous moment, one of Celie's newborns. The musical primarily focuses on Celie's journey from abuse to independence and self-esteem, an arduous trek that takes some four decades, from 1909 to 1949. She laments: ``If God ever listened to a poor colored woman the world would be a different place.'' Doyle's pacing in the first act is so swift that there's little time to breathe as misery seems to visit Celie without release _ losing a sister, marrying a monster, endless work, beatings, abandoning her kids. Things loosen up in a more airy
second act, and costume designer Ann Hould-Ward starts adding bursts of colour.

'The 6' makes a fashionable footprint with new Nike shoes inspired by Toronto
Hudson as the hedonistic Shug Avery rushes her lines a tad but no one will care when she opens her mouth to deliver the title song or wiggle in the slinky, memorable group dance number ``Push da Button.'' There is purity and astounding horse power in her voice. Danielle Brooks, from ``Orange Is the New Black,'' makes a strong Sofia, one whose spirit of mirth never gets lost. Isaiah Johnson is an effectively cruel Mister, though his redemption in the second half is a little abrupt. Marsha Norman, author of ``'night, Mother,'' adapted Walker's book for the stage. The score by Brenda Russell, Allee Willis and Stephen Bray, is a happy melting pot of melodies, from gospel to jazz and R&B. Doyle and this company are best just letting Erivo and Hudson sing and the memorable renditions keep coming: Celie and Shug with ``What About Love?'' Celie singing the roof-raising ``I'm Here.'' And the triumphant ``Miss Celie's Pants.'' Listening to them is a rare treat. It takes you to a different place. The Associated Press
TORONTO - ``The 6'' is getting its own shoe. The nickname assigned to Toronto by hometown hip-hop star Drake has been stamped on new Nike shoes designed by Canadian Erin Cochrane. Many believe ``The 6'' is a reference to Toronto's 416 and 647 area codes, but the footwear giant says the name of the Air Max 1 shoes refers to Toronto's six pre-amalgamation boroughs.
