ife in Delhi University (DU) promises not just ‘padhai’ but endless ‘masti’ and even the opportunity to find the love of your life. For these blossoming love affairs in college, former students of the University have made special zones in the premises and even given them fancy names. These love-spots constitute a shared legacy of experiences across generations of students, who have been a part of DU. Here’s a look at some love addas for those looking to spend some quality time with their special one. n

LOVERS’ POINT, DESHBANDHU COLLEGE

ROMEO LANE, SHRI VENKATESWARA COLLEGE

Located behind the campus building, the Lovers’ Point of Deshbandhu College is a space reserved for couples. Sheltered from the piercing glares of strangers, this hub is perfect for lovers to steal some moments of romance. “In the first semester, I was warned by the seniors that in order to be able to venture to the Lovers’ Point, it’s mandatory to be accompanied by a partner,” says Hardik Sharma, a second year student at Deshbandhu College.

The passage which connects the canteen to the college building of Venkateswara College has been christened as the ‘Romeo Lane’ — the perfect spot for college sweethearts to strike up a conversation. With patches of green lining the way, this passage sees couples walking hand in hand all day. “You can spot couples in the lane after 2pm, since that’s when the classes end,” says Nikita Narula, a second year student of Venkateswara College.

FACULTY OF ARTS, NORTH CAMPUS

LOVERS’ POINT, HANRAJ COLLEGE

The lawns of Faculty of Arts, located centrally in the North Campus, beckon couples from all sections of the University. The vast green pastures witness couples cozying up to each other, especially in the amber glow of sunsets. “Couples looking for a intimate setting flock to the gardens of the Faculty of Arts. The pull of the vast open cannot be resisted by college sweethearts,” says Radhika Mehrotra, student of Faculty of Arts.

Situated in the heart of the college campus, lined with eateries, resides the famous Lovers’ Point of Hansraj College. Contrary to what one would expect, the Lovers’ Point is always buzzing with activities and is a popular ‘chill out’ spot. Couples romancing each other is a common sight. “The college grapevine says that actor Shah Rukh Khan had proposed to wife Gauri Khan at this very spot,” says Shivam Jangra, student of Hansraj College.

The fact that it is a popular hangout spot for the entire college does not deter the couples from flocking the Lovers’ Point to enjoy coffee and grilled cheese sandwiches over long conversations SHIVAM JANGRA, STUDENT

BONTA PARK, KAMALA NEHRU RIDGE The lush green Bonta Park is situated at the Kamala Nehru Ridge of North Campus, away from the unending drone of the city. It is a favourite haven for couples, who enjoy spending some quiet time in the nature’s lap and don’t mind the

company of the notorious monkeys inhabiting the park. “I have been to Bonta Park with my girlfriend a couple of times. It’s a great place for a quick getaway, where you can escape the pressures of academics and lose yourself to the company of your special someone,” says Pankaj Sharma, a second year student of Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College.

You can spot couples in the lane after 2pm, since that’s when classes end. Ask any Venky pass out as to what sets the college apart, and Romeo Lane will be on the list NIKITA NARULA, STUDENT
