AT H O M E W I T H G OV I E R S T H I S C H R I S T M A S We have been delighted at the reaction to the first At Home catalogue and hope that the second edition has a few more things to tempt you. Janet has taken you on a journey: decorating the house; preparing and eating the food and arriving at our destination, the eating of Christmas lunch. I know that this year things are likely to be very different for many of us but certainly in the Willis household we plan to do whatever we can to make the day something special for whoever we are allowed to be with. Janet loves Christmas and all the preparations that go in to making the house look and smell wonderful. The Jormaepourri wreath and tree from last year will have a reviving spray of scented oil and the many decorations we have amassed over the years, and a few new ones no doubt, will make the house look fully festive. The office is currently wonderfully fragranced by the Spode Noel reed diffuser and even I have been feeling festive! With a birthday in mid-December I always felt that Christmas should not really start until after my birthday. We are very lucky in what we do that we work with some wonderful brands and some amazing people. What we offer you is always of the highest quality but when it comes to functional items, we do like to test them so that we can personally vouch for the fact that they are as good as we say. That is certainly true of the Mermaid range. My Yorkshire puddings cooked in the 4-hole tin may not be as elegant as Auntie Bessie’s but they were very large and did not stick. Result! Janet has already made one Christmas cake in the loose bottom tin and it will be my job to feed it over the next few weeks. The full range of tins will be in action in our kitchen over the next few weeks as the freezer fills up with all manner of things I really shouldn’t eat!
On our table will no doubt be one of the many patterns of tableware we have collected over the years but with it will be our Villeroy & Boch and Mepra cutlery which we have proven is dishwasher safe over many months of use. Our Mepra Appetiser forks will certainly be in use for a few pre-dinner nibbles and a glass of something sparkling. Delia’s Christmas cook book will never be far away, I have already made the Cheese Palmiers! It seems from the reaction last time that many of your love the Selbrae House range as much as we do. A really lovely company who have the most incredible hand-crafted products. I certainly much prefer the feel of linen table napkins to paper and knowing that they came from Scotland’s last linen maker is a bonus. I love cheese and all things cheese so no meal would be complete without it. A nice selection will no doubt be taking its place on my slate cheeseboard for eating at some point in the day, even if after Janet’s home-made Christmas pudding and Delia’s rum sauce it might not be at lunch time! Obviously, I will have to leave a little room to taste a very well-fed Christmas cake at some point in the day. I am feeling full just writing about it! Whatever we are able to do on Christmas day you can certainly do it in style with Goviers.
