HELLO OCTOBER It’s my birthday month and the big 5-0 for me!!! But I am feeling fitter and younger than ever and it’s thanks to my fabulous fitness trainer, Georgina Bell. Her classes are exceptional and I plan my entire day around her classes. It’s important to be consistent to see results, not just in weightloss and fitness but in all aspects of your life. Take this magazine, for example. Launched at the start of the pandemic, who could have predicted that?! But despite this challenge, we have consistently printed every month and now we’re expanding into Limassol which is incredibly exciting. I mean, if we survived and thrived during there last 18 months, can you imagine what we can achieve in the coming year?
I see businesses all around embracing this optimism and to celebrate this, Lifestyle magazine is offering exceptional annual advertising rates to help grow your business. Did you know that more people are turning away from social media to advertise? Because how may times do you have to swipe across an advert standing in the way of what you really want to read? That advertiser doesn’t stand a chance of being memorable, their ad will resonate for just 3 seconds compared to an ad in print which will stick around in your brain for 56 seconds, Print media is far from dead, it is thriving, and it’s been around a few thousand years longer than the internet. Can you honestly remember the last online advert you saw? Comapred to, say,
a billboard you drove past or an advert in a magazine you read? I love October, in the UK Halloween is such a big, adopted event now, and although not celebrated widely in Cyprus it’s still fun. Cyherbia are holding their annual pumpkin carving festival. I went along to visit this beautiful park and met up with inspirational owner Miranda Tringis. Read her interview and many more in this month’s issue. Enjoy and as always, stay fabulous.

Secure Corporate and Domestic Storage in Cyprus
C
hange is bound to happen. Renovation, relocation, remodelling. All these rank as one of the most stressful life events. Your life and work are disrupted as you make adjustments and changes to your daily routine. Additionally, organising, packing and keeping track of your belongings is a hassle. Then, once you move, you have to figure out where to put all your items. Luckily, you can take away some of that stress by storing your possessions
6
at Peter Morton Removals storage facilities! At PMR, one of the core values is to make customers life as stress-free as possible. Renovation, Relocation and Remodelling, do not have to be stressful life events. Due to increased demand a few years ago, Peter Morton made a considerable investment and sourced a dedicated, massive storage facility on a 7,500 square meter site. Right now, it is ranked as the largest and safest storage facility in Cyprus. At PMR, the storage crates are made of wood and are 250 cubic ft each in size. The storage facilities are approved by BAR (British Association of Removers) and all crates are manufactured and imported from the UK. It’s easy to store items anywhere, but our warehouse is both convenient and protected. Considering
your belongings’ safety ahead of time will save you the stress of having to replace something later or potentially losing something irreplaceable, expensive or dear to your heart. Additionally, the warehouse itself and all goods that are in the store are fully insured! With the recent increase in Cyprus crime rates, storing valuable goods at home doesn’t seem like a safe option any longer. Unlike houses, storage facilities offer more security to stored items. At Peter Morton Removals, the whole facility is covered by a state-of-the-art security system monitored 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Three freerunning guard dogs also patrol the premises. It is, therefore, wiser to store valuable items in a
storage unit rather than in the garage or basement of our houses. Peter Morton Removals domestic storage crates are all individually numbered. They are loaded on to purposebuilt vehicles and brought to your house, ready to be loaded by the PMR team. Upon loading of each crate, with a full inventory, the doors will be secured. On arrival of the PMR vehicle back at a secure warehouse, your numbered crate will be placed back in its specific row by a forklift. This means your goods are not handled anymore from when collected. The redelivery process works exactly the same but in
reverse. Every crate that arrives at the warehouse is logged on to the computer system. You can access your domestic storage crates at any time by appointment with the office.
of where they going and what conditions they will be stored in. We welcome potential customers to come and view our facility, so you can see for yourself and be confident in your decision to use us.
At PMR, we always suggest to our clients that they come and look at the storage facility. If you want to store your goods, you need to be very sure For more information, please visit their website www.petermortonremoval.com or give them a call on 26923588 - Paphos office or 25722180 - Limassol office. 7

BACK TO NATURE
Lifestyle chats to botanical garden Cyherbia founder MIRANDA TRINGIS
In an interview by Amanda Moss
C
yherbia is situated in Avgorou and opened in 2012 and is set in 32000 square metres and was born from an idea after she brought the land with her husband as an investment. She said, “about six months after we got the land, my husband had the crazy idea to create a park for people to learn about the benefits of herbs for health and well-being and at the same time spend a nice day in the natural surroundings. I was dabbling in herbalism for years as a stay at home mum, using herbal remedies for my family, and I knew how powerful the herbs of Cyprus are in their therapeutic actions. When he had the idea for the park, after my initial fear of such a big project, I decided to study for a degree in herbal medicine. The park took 8 years to create, during those years I got my degree and some years of
10
working as a herbal practitioner. There are 9 themed herb gardens, 2 lavender gardens, a woodland planted in the shape of Cyprus where you can walk around the island and also see the fairy village, there is the famous 2000 sq.m hedge maze, and on site you can enjoy healthy dishes and herbal tea in the tea room, and find herbal products in the shop. Guests get a printed guide to read whilst they walk around the gardens. Cyherbia is currently expanding by building a new herbal apothecary for blending teas and making other products, a new reception and storage area. One of the most anticipated events on the calendar at Cyherbia is Halloween, with their
tradition of pumpkin carving weekends throughout October, and the big family Halloween event on the last weekend of October. Miranda said: “Although Halloween is not that big on the island, many people love the spooky family fun we offer at the park, and the pumpkin carving has become a very popular activity for young and old. Last year as many as 1500 pumpkins were carved over 3 weekends! There wasn’t a pumpkin to be found anywhere on the island! The pumpkins are grown especially for us in other parts of the
island, and as many as we buy in, we are always short of them at the end of October!” Sipping herbal tea in the cafe, Miranda is the picture of contentment, which is hardly surprising in the beautiful, tranquil environment she has created with her family. She said: “What I love most about Cyherbia is how privileged I feel working alongside mother Nature in providing wellness to people. I never cease to marvel at how much healing there
is in nature, not only in her gifts in the form of teas and medicines, but also just to spend time in nature, interact with the trees and plants. Often just to sit here in these natural surroundings is everything. I live and breathe this place.” Enjoy a relaxing walk and have fun whilst learning about the herbs of Cyprus. Children get a game sheet with educational activities to do in all areas of the park. After your walk you can sit back and relax in the
tea room overlooking the gardens and enjoy a freshly prepared healthy meal or cakes. With your entrance ticket you get a cup of complimentary herbal tea. Cyherbia’s pumpkin festival will run for 3 weekends starting on October 16th, with pumpkin carving workshops and ending with the family Halloween on the last weekend of October. Opening hours 9am – 6pm. Info and booking: www.cyherbia.com. Tel. 99915443.

RECIPE
It’s the ultimate autumnal recipe pumpkin soup….It’s super creamy (thanks mostly to the pumpkin, with a little help from coconut milk yet healthy, too. It’s easy to make and the leftovers taste even better the next day! •
4 tablespoons olive oil, divided
•
One 4-pound sugar pie pumpkin
•
1 large yellow onion, chopped
•
4 large or 6 medium garlic cloves, pressed or minced
•
½ teaspoon sea salt
•
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
•
½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
•
1/8 teaspoon cloves
•
Tiny dash of cayenne pepper (optional, if you like spice)
•
Freshly ground black pepper
•
4 cups (32 ounces) vegetable broth
•
½ cup full fat coconut milk
•
2 tablespoons maple syrup or honeyPreheat oven to 425 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Carefully halve the pumpkin and scoop out the seeds
12
P
reheat oven to 425 degrees F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup. Carefully halve the pumpkin and scoop out the seeds. Slice each pumpkin halve in half to make quarters. Brush or rub 1 tablespoon olive oil over the flesh of the pumpkin and place the quarters, cut sides down, onto the baking sheet. Roast for 35 minutes or longer, until the orange flesh is easily pierced through with a fork. Heat the remaining 3 tablespoons olive oil in a pot over medium heat. Once the oil is shimmering, add onion, garlic and salt to the skillet. Stir to combine. Cook, stirring occasionally, until onion is translucent, about 8 to 10 minutes. Peel the pumpkin skin off
the pumpkins and discard the skin. Add the pumpkin flesh, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, cayenne pepper and a few twists of freshly ground black pepper. Use your stirring spoon to break up the pumpkin a bit. Pour in the broth. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 15 minutes, to give the flavours time to fuse. While the soup is cooking, toast the pepitas in a medium skillet over medium-low heat, stirring frequently, until fragrant, golden and making little popping noises. You want them to be nice and toasty, but not burnt. Stir in the coconut milk and maple syrup. Remove the soup from heat and let it cool slightly. Ladle the soup into bowls. Sprinkle pepitas over the soup and serve. Let leftover soup cool completely before transferring it to a proper storage container and refrigerating it for up to 4 days. Or freeze for up to 3 months.

“Our restaurant, our life’’
Our dream was to one day create good service for tourists that would make their holidays here in Cyprus, even more special. This dream came true in 1989, where we established a small family business in Ayia Napa, a restaurant, as I (Theo) am a trained chef and my brother (Peter) is a trained waiter. Since then we have tried our best to provide as much satisfaction as possible to our customers.
There’s a reason why Flames Restaurant is listed as one of Trip Avisor’s top ten restaurants in Ayia Napa. Dedicated to providing an excellent service, its winning mix of friendly staff, a great atmosphere and delicious food has delighted diners since it was established 1989. If traditional Cypriot dishes are what your after, Flames is the place to go. You’ll find House Specialities, Steak, Grills, Fish, Pasta Vegan and Vegetarian Dishes on the Menu. Not to mention its fabulous Wine list and homemade desserts - all chosen to complement your meal perfectly.

HEARING
Hear better — age better
with Economou Hearing
W
e all want to stay healthy and happy as we age, don’t we? And we all know many of the obvious ways to do it — like exercising, eating right, not smoking and getting enough sleep. But did you know our hearing plays a role in healthy aging, too? Since September is Healthy Aging Month (bet you didn’t know that?), we thought we’d share four ways hearing better can help us age better. 1. Hearing better helps keep us social and active When we hear clearly and with minimal effort, it’s easier to be engaged, maintain connections, feel a part of conversations, and stay socially active. On the other hand, people who struggle hearing often decide it’s easier to avoid social situations. They might turn down invitations, limit interactions, and become more withdrawn and isolated. Research proves that people who enjoy social relationships are more likely to live longer than those who are isolated and lonely. 2. Hearing better helps keep us alert and independent Our sense of hearing plays a huge role in how confident and independent we are, and how safe we feel when we’re out and about. When we hear clearly, our spatial awareness opens up and we’re able to distinguish and react to audible cues that warn us of safety issues. When we hear without effort, we can feel less reliant on
18
others to “translate” or clarify what we heard, resulting in a greater sense of freedom and independence. People who can’t hear like they once could are more likely to miss warning cues, feel less confident in surroundings outside their home, and are more at risk of accidents, injuries or mishearing important information. Individuals with good hearing are two times less likely to experience accidental injuries and three times less likely to have a history of falling than those with hearing loss. 3. Hearing better can help keep us mentally sharp Numerous studies have linked hearing loss to dementia, a mental health challenge the World Health Organization predicts will triple by 2050. Experts attribute the connection to the fact that hearing loss leads to social isolation (a known risk factor for dementia), that it accelerates brain shrinkage, and that it forces the brain to “steal” energy needed for memory and thinking. An international commission on dementia prevention has
confirmed that treating hearing loss in midlife is the single biggest risk factor you can modify to help prevent dementia. 4. Hearing better brings us joy Maybe more than anything, hearing our best helps keep us positive and vibrant. Whether it’s listening to the laughter of friends, the sound of a symphony, a child’s first words, ocean waves lapping, or a bird singing outside the window, hearing keeps us engaged, active, and connected to the world around us. According to a Yale study, optimism and a positive outlook adds 7.5 years to our life, while other research has shown it may reduce the risk of depression, heart disease and other chronic illnesses. If you’ve got hearing loss and want to be proactive about potential brain health issues, we can help. Simply call at 77772627 and book a free hearing consultation with one of our hearing healthcare professionals in your area, who can test your hearing and consult with you about treatment options available to you.

HEALTH NEWS MEN ARE MORE OPEN ABOUT THEIR MEDICAL CONDITIONS THAN WOMEN
A
LTHOUGH THE majority of men are still not confident talking about their health, new research reveals that men are actually more open than women when it comes to talking about their existing medical conditions. A survey of 2,006 adults by medical ID charity MedicAlert, has revealed that 40% of men are open with others about their conditions, compared to only 25% of women. In addition, the research found that men actually feel less worried, uncomfortable, or stressed when talking about new or pre-existing conditions than women, showing that positive change is happening, and some feel more comfortable speaking up. Whilst this is great news, it does mean that 60% of men with underlying conditions are still struggling to open up to others about their conditions.
The research reveals 24% don’t like to explain their condition to every person they meet, while 16% don’t discuss their health as they want to ease the burden on friends and family. 20
It’s clear from the research that many of us still struggle for varying reasons. However, hopefully more and more men - and women - will realise that they’re not alone and can find confidence in the fact that their peers will be open to what they have to say, with many having trodden the path of sharing already. It’s critical that people are being encouraged to be open about their underlying conditions, as this could help save their life in an emergency. Unfortunately, whether an individual has or hasn’t shared their details with those closest to them may not be enough - if they are with unfamiliar people, alone or in an emergency, such as a car crash, they may be unable to speak for themselves when it matters most. Something more people are doing is wearing a medical ID which communicates their vital medical information to emergency responders, helping to save their life. “No matter how confident you are speaking to others about your condition, you never know what may happen in an accident
- you may be all alone, not able to speak due to being unconscious or in shock, or even not able to speak the local language. I am always telling friends who have allergies or illnesses to get a medical ID - everyone should be protecting themselves, just in case,” said Ian Fleming of MedicAlert Kirsten Giles, CEO at MedicAlert added “Historically, men have been perceived as less likely to talk about anything that makes them feel uncomfortable or vulnerable. It is great that we are now seeing men becoming comfortable with being open about their medical needs. However, in an emergency, you can’t always talk for yourself. “At MedicAlert, we’re seeing more men joining the charity, protecting themselves with our medical IDs and service. Having previously been encouraged by the women in their lives, we are now seeing them initiate the process themselves. “We encourage every man - and woman - who lives with a condition that would make them vulnerable in an emergency to take proactive steps to protect themselves.” For more information please visit: https://www. medicalert.org.uk/

EXERCISE
Georgina Bell, Fitness Trainer and Les Mills instructor
O
ne of the most overlooked aspects of exercise is stretching after a strenuous workout. Stretching tired and sore muscles after a workout is essential as it enhances flexibility and reduces muscle tension after a workout. Stretching should be a part of your well-balanced workout routine, given the same importance as strength and cardiovascular training. We always carry out a warm up to loosen joints and then spend 5-10 minutes after each workout class on stretches. The benefits of stretching before a workout are obviously injury prevention. When you stretch after a workout, you benefit from both physiological and psychological effects. Benefits of Post Workout Stretches: Increased Flexibility One of the foremost benefits of stretching is increased and enhanced flexibility of the different muscle groups. It helps constricted and contracted
muscles release back to their more comfortable state and your body will eventually become more flexible, which can help prevent injuries With consistent post -workout stretching, the body becomes more flexible. You will find it easier to bend, stand, squat and do a host of other flexibility related exercises, which would have otherwise not been possible. It has been seen that leg stretches done after a long run increases muscular power and endurance especially for runners. Improved Blood circulation When you indulge in an intense workout, the body pumps blood faster to the heart making it beat at a rapid rate. Stretching allows the body to cool down and also helps the heart beat to return to normalcy.
The release of lactic acid during an intense workout is broken with stretching. This allows muscle recovery and repair. The blood circulation to the muscles is once again resumed with stretching. This also allows the heart rate to come back to its original resting rate. Eliminates Lactic Acid The moment you workout muscles, the body produces lactic acid which makes the muscles fatigued and sore. Hence, it is important to stretch as stretching eliminates the lactic acid that has accumulated inside the body and also relaxes the muscles. Boost your energy If you stretch properly, you’ll likely notice that your energy level is steady and consistent. When the body cools down, the brain releases endorphins, a natural and healthy feel-good chemical. After a good post-workout stretch, you’ll be energized and ready to meet any challenge.

E LOVE FOOD HATE WAST
How your fridge temperature can help save the planet For food’s sake – stay cool!
T
he ultimate heartbreak: going to put milk in your tea and finding it’s gone off.
For a nation of tea (and coffee!) lovers, there’s nothing worse than having your brew ruined by sour milk. And it might shock you to hear that, in our homes, we waste the equivalent of 3.1 million glasses of milk every single day! The main reason? We simply don’t use it in time. Luckily, there is a quick and easy thing we can all do to keep our milk fresher for a little longer, as well as all our other chilled foods. All you need to do is chill the fridge out! Food survives at under 5. When was the last time you checked your fridge temperature? It’s not number one on most people’s to-do lists, but it can prevent food from being wasted – saving you money as well! Less than half of UK adults know the best temperature to keep the fridge at, so at Love Food Hate Waste we’re on a mission to help you all keep your cool. Millions of UK fridges are set too warm for all of our fresh foods. Dialling down to below 5⁰C means your food stays safe and fresher for longer, giving you more time to enjoy your milk, veggies, yoghurts, apples, smoothies, cream cakes, and tomatoes. One of the main reasons why we waste food is because we don’t use it in time. Making this small but simple change can extend the life of your food by stopping it spoiling too quickly!
Many of us also keep some foods at room temperature, when they will actually last longer in the fridge. Apples and tomatoes are key examples – these both last longer when they are nice and chilled! Just remember to bring your tomatoes out a few minutes before eating to enjoy them at their best. Our food storage A–Z has plenty of information on where’s best for all your different foods. Not sure how to check or adjust your fridge thermometer? You’re in luck – we can help! Our handy Chill The Fridge Out tool can show you how to master your fridge temperature in seconds.
as bad for the planet? According to our research, it’s actually still a good move, so long as all your fruits and veggies are stored correctly. The reduction in food waste and emissions from chilling your fridge out – and perfecting your food storage game! – more than offsets any increase in energy and emissions. Saving money and doing your bit for the planet – win-win! Relevant stats: •
UK homes waste the equivalent of 3.1 million glasses of milk every day.
•
290,000 tonnes of milk are wasted in homes every year – mostly because it’s not used in time.
•
Millions of UK fridges are at least 2C too warm, milk will last three days longer if kept at 4C.
•
Lowering your fridge temperature to 4C is estimated to save 70,000 tonnes of food from being wasted – this is worth £160m, and generates roughly 270,000 tonnes of C02 emissions annually.
•
4.5 million tonnes of edible food is wasted every year in UK homes. (We generate 6.6 million tonnes of food waste.)
•
Only 48% of UK adults know that apples will last longer in the fridge than at room temperature, and only 45% know that their fridge should be kept to under 5C.
Good for your pocket and the planet. Checking and changing your fridge temperature to below 5°C – and storing everything in the fridge that should be in there – could stop up to 70,000 tonnes of food from ending up in the bin every year. But it’s not just the food you’ll be saving. Those 70,000 tonnes of food are worth £160 million, meaning every household has money to save by chilling the fridge out! On top of that, saving all this food from the bin would stop roughly 270,000 tonnes of C02e being emitted every year. So, by keeping an eye on your fridge temperature, you’re really taking action against climate change. Globally, wasting food creates six times more greenhouse gas emissions than aviation, so wasting less by keeping your fridge cool is a big positive act for the planet. But, does running your fridge at a lower temperature have an impact on energy use, which could be just
Snippet: Keeping your fridge at under 5C: •
Prevents food going in the bin – food stays safe and fresher for longer!
•
Saves money by helping you waste less food.
•
Is an easy thing we can all do to prevent climate change.
Not sure how? Love Food Hate Waste can help you check and change your fridge temperature.

only your life but the health of your body. A spiritual coach will help you connect to who you truly are. They work with you to change, redirect your life, take the right steps towards your goals, remove limiting beliefs, dissolve negative emotions and take steps to achieve your goals.
They will work with root causes instead of treating symptoms. Do you want to consciously create? Do you want to own your power? Do you desire growth, progress, abundance, love and deep satisfaction from your life? The growth that is accomplished with a spiritual health coach
includes connection to the Divine, working with the universe, taking control of your happiness, stepping into your power, shifting your subconscious and much much more… It’s about awakening human beings to the universal consciousness. There are many techniques you will learn in your one on one consultation to work on yourself and transform your energy and connect to the universal field as others would call it. Unfortunately people need to unlearn the programming society has given from birth otherwise life will always be a struggle. Trauma is stored for instance in the subconscious mind. We try not to think about the trauma but it’s still there. For instance, no one makes you angry. Your anger is there within you and has not been dealt with. Disasters, disease and everyday problems cannot penetrate consciousness!
Join me at the Tree of Life and have a private one on one and let’s see what issue your facing. People don’t realise once they start moving beyond emotions and feelings that’s when they’ll start to see magic in their lives. Almost 90% of what takes people to the doctors is stress related illness and diseases. And almost 70% of the population is falsely medicated to keep up with life. READING
The Summer Will Come by Soulla Christodoulou
28
B
orn in London to Greek Cypriot parents, author Soulla Christodoulou was the first in her family to go to university. The Summer Will Come was selected by Barnet Libraries as a book club read in the Year of Learning Festival 2019. Her poetry has won various competitions and has been featured in e-magazines and on literary websites. The Summer Will Come is currently under contract to be translated into Greek and has been earmarked as a book to movie project. It is a historical fiction novel whose title has been taken from one of Evagoras Pallikarides’ most famous poems and who was also one of the EOKA heroes of the time. “It’s one of those stories which matters because it will touch the true experiences of many families and reminds us of our family roots and homeland’s history. With immigration and the plight of refugees still very much in the fore of people’s minds, this narrative is still all too painfully familiar. It is so important we continue to create imagery, stories and have conversations
about this,” says Christodoulou. The story, written over a two year period and after conducting many face-toface interviews with family and friends, begins in 1950s Cyprus in the villages of Ayios Tychonas, Limassol and Kato Lefkara, Larnaca; the origins of Christodoulou’s parents’ families. “Writing a story around my own family’s villages and homes in Cyprus was emotional and I have been deeply touched by the sacrifices made by my grandparents to start all over again in a new country. The same sacrifices made by thousands of families at the time.” EOKA, British rule, and the fight for Enosis (unity) disrupt the world of two Greek Cypriot families, living in different villages on the island. They are desperately trying to cope with the unpredictability of this fractious time. Circumstances over a five-year period push both families to escape to London where, as immigrants, they struggle to settle, face new challenges, deal with trauma and find a way to cope with missing their homeland's traditions
and culture. Both families' lives cross paths in London and it seems that happier beginnings could be theirs. But at what cost? A story of passion for a country in turmoil, family love, loyalty and treachery and how, sometimes, starting over isn't always as imagined. “As first generation UK Cypriots we have heard these stories from our parents and grandparents. As time goes on they are fast becoming the only tangible links to a past which has coloured our own lives and brought us to where we are. Finding a way to connect with and honour those stories is something we should all be mindful of; the connection will not always be there, especially for second and third generation members of our families. Identity is not only the product of traditions and culture but of time and place. It is the key to everything including feelings of security and belonging and provides a place to share our values and beliefs,” she says. Readers have described the book as “an incredibly rich read with compelling characters and an involving story” and “a great read that is part of the history of Cyprus and London”. 29

Andreas Olympus, owner of Woody’s
in Protaras and part of a family chain of restaurants throughout the area Tell us about your family My father after working three jobs to support his family, came up with the idea to open a restaurant. The first one was in Ayia Napa by Landa beach and then he opened a second one in the centre called The Good Fortune which was very very busy until the mid 90s. Then he found a restaurant on Protaras and opened that. We used to cater for 600 people at la carte every night. I was 18 years old and I was the manager looking after 26 waiters. That’s how busy we were. I was in the army and coming back to help my family business and that is how I learnt my trade. When did you open Woody’s? I opened in 2016 and it was me and my brother. I was also a

lifeguard (9 years as a life guard) and was working two jobs, working from 9am until 7pm on the beach and then coming straight here until 4am in the morning. I did it for a couple of weeks and then I gave up being a lifeguard because I couldn’t do both. I went to the town hall who managed the lifeguards and asked for two years off so I could dedicate my time to my business. Do you miss being a lifeguard? Very much so, I loved it but the money
was very bad. It was hard to leave as I was very good at my job, with excellent reviews. It is very important to me that whatever I do I always put the customer first and make sure they are happy. This applies to Woody’s too, everyone who comes here is my family, not guests. It is my passion, my life and respect goes a long way, whatever I do. What makes Woodys so special? There are no clubs in Protaras, and bar and restaraunt owners come here after they finish work. There is a lot of respect for this place, everyone is like
family, I am very happy for everyone to be happy here. We all look out for each other. I found this place because it overlooks the church on the hill and this is what makes people come here. We are on the outskirts of Protaras, we are the first bar or the last bar on
the main road. I always wanted my on place from the age of 19 and this is perfect as I take the good parts of every person. Are you optimistic for the rest of the season? Well with power and good
will I strongly believe we will get through this united and everyone needs to get back to normality. It is paradise here.

ise men and women off all times have a unique set of activities they perform consciously or automatically. These daily rituals give them something more than the ordinary person can attain. So what do successful people do to be successful? Everyone wants to have the secret formula to success. The truth is you already know what it is, you just need the wisdom and the willpower to perform it daily. The formula to success is to consistently do a set of actions that align your mind and emotions to be in your optimal state. The answer is simple, yet deeply complex. Contradiction is the nature of our dualistic reality. Within the contradictions you must find the balance and create harmony. Earth: Spend some minutes standing barefoot on the earth. Take a few deep breaths through your nose and then begin to imagine you are breathing in and out of soles of your feet. Water: Place a glass of high quality drinking water in your hands and whisper positive affirmations into the glass. Something like “I am radiant health in my body now”. Then take a moment to feel gratitude in your heart and drink the water. Air: Find a place that is peaceful for you, ideally with fresh air. Take your time to breathe in as deeply as you can 10 times. Each time counting the in breath and out breath to be longer. Fire: Light a candle or a fire. With open hands feel the warmth of the fire and imagine your inner fire becoming brighter. Turn around feeling the
warmth on your back. Spirit: Take a deep breath and feel your body first. Decide on your favourite method of going within, such as prayer or meditation and with your full feeling practice this. Joy and deep relaxation is also a great way to connect to spirit. I wish you a magical October and deep insight into what makes you show up as your best self each day. With joy, Ekaterina Sophia

MUSIC Wow! October is already here, and cooler evenings filled with acoustic nights and events. I love summer but welcome Autumn and its ambiance. Another thing that makes me feel good and gives me a natural high is the return of many music events around the world and in Cyprus. Ok….. so there are still restrictions to follow but LIVE MUSIC IS BACK…and I hope it’s here to stay …..it’s a fundamental human need!
36
Last month saw numerous music events brighten up the island, including top DJ events, famous Greek singers performing at historic amphitheatres and a few small festivals,
one being The Street Music Project. This great innovation for music awareness, had local artists playing at different outdoor public places for the duration of ten days with the purpose of injecting life and colour into the city’s streets. Music genres included Classical, Tango, Jazz, Rock, film music and more. If you were out and about, then you probably heard this music filling the streets. A great event with purpose was the Soul Dive Weekend, created by Chirokitia Eco-Village. A

two-day music project, set within beautiful natural surroundings with music events, music jams and workshops with the aim of raising funds for waterwell equipment needed for the village. CYPRUS ROCKS FESTIVAL….A big reason why I also love
October. The festival is held annually in Protaras, but due to Covid hasn’t been organized for the past two years. However, because of the growing and amazing Cyprus Rocks family from the UK who love Cyprus and the festival, many still booked their holidays for the week of the festival’s proposed dates. It only seemed right to make a LITE version of the festival naming it ‘CYPRUS ROCKS LITE 21’. Music events including the famous Cyprus Rocks Pool Party at BlueSpice was organized, with three bands, a barbeque and lots of floating ducks in the pool! An amazing day full of music, fun and happy people. Other events arranged included an acoustic night at
Koursaros Rock Bar, a jam night at Knights Bar, and more Live music nights at BlueSpice. Event dates 1 -8 October. Cyprus Rocks is more than just a festival and succeeds in reuniting friends and music lovers. Moving onto a band that I seldomly miss perform, is FUSE. A local band which continuously inject us with pure Rock. FUSE is the perfect name for this group as each show is energetic, electrifying, and powerful. The band emerged on the music scene in 2017 and is led by frontman Francois Micheletto, who in my opinion is the epitome of Rock. He is charismatic and full of a deep passion and mystery when performing the music,
he loves. All the band members are established musicians and blended ….or FUSED, make this band what it is today. GREAT! The band oozes chemistry on stage and succeed in taking you on a magical musical ride. If you want a night of guaranteed pure Rock, whether its hard Rock, classic, Metal Rock, from past til present then this band’s playlist, covers a big spectrum of great tunes… don’t expect to hear any pop from this band though, it’s just not on their agenda. Band members are Francois Micheletto, Antonis Loizidis, Andreas Hadjpandelis, Louis Simon Sirimis and Kypros Karaviotis.

withdrawal from the EU on 31st December 2020, we have been in fluxed with many questions from UK based clients covering aspects such as Immigration, Mortgages, Taxation, Pensions as well as questions regarding purchasing property and what if any impact Brexit will have on their wish to buy that holiday home, investment, or relocation/ retirement. I have visited many clients in the UK to discuss their personal requirements on a “one to one “personal basis to give them piece of mind and that the dream of owning a home in the sun can still be achieved with the right and unbiased professional advice. As we have received so many various questions, we have complied a
“What happens after Brexit “information pack which clients have found useful and provides an indication on the above issues. A copy can be requested by emailing: rob@rjoverseasproperty.com
As we go into autumn do you see any sign of sales slowing down? We
had an increase in enquiries during 2020, but the last quarter saw many UK clients delaying the decision to either purchase or view properties leading up to Brexit. This coupled with the pandemic and the impact on flights and travel saw the market slow which impacted on the Real Estate sector globally. Since the start of 2021 we have seen an increase in enquiries, and we have assisted clients with arranged video viewings and online meetings to answer their questions. From February onwards and throughout the summer months we have seen a 60/70% increase in enquiries and with the ease on travel restrictions many clients are now confirming pre-arranged viewing trips with us, through to the end of 2021 which is highly encouraging. Taking in to account the current climate and the impact over the last 18 months we see the market demand continuing to rise through in to 2022. To cater for client demand we have restructured our team to increase our personal approach, professionally led by our Senior Sales Manager Sue Hough based at our Protaras offices.
