HELLO JULY This is the month I have been waiting for, and probably many of you small business owners as we wait for the planes to arrive with all the Brits on board. And fingers crossed my children will be on one of them as the summer holidays get underway. Let’s hope for a fantastic summer for everyone, last week I was in Ayia Napa and the strip was buzzing for the first time in what seems like forever. Long may it continue! It’s the perfect time of year to kick back your flip
flops with a copy of your favourite magazine. As always there’s plenty of news and features with inspirational, motivated people on the island. So take a sip of your frappe, breathe in the gorgeous air on one of our 112 beautiful beaches and love the lifestyle you’re living I always sign off with “stay stylish” which is rather apt as I am planning a fashion show later in the year. I have produced shows in Los Angeles, London and Liverpool so it was only going to be a better of time before
I could stage one here. If you are a boutique owner or fashion designer, please get in touch for some incredible opportunities to see your brand elevated to new heights. As always, be original and unapologetic,

PET HEALTH
Meet Dr Panagiotis Tsoukka DVM, MRCVS, owner of Furry Friends Veterinary Clinic
I
opened the practice on 11th January 2021. Prior to this I had spent two years in the UK. Then I wanted to come back to Cyprus as the pandemic hit and I was sick of the weather in the UK. I started doing some home visits last year some home visits but it was always my plan to open a practice and now I have one.
think Cyprus is ready for it, in the UK animal hospitals are open 24 hours and prices are 10 - 15 x more than here. But the quality of service is a lot higher; imagine a 24 hour hospital with 10 nurses round the clock looking after animals, it is going to be exceptional. And it is my dream to open something similar here.
There are two vets in here, myself and Panagiota Mousikou.
Here are Furry Friends we have all the equipment to treat our animals. We have a state of the art x-ray machine and an ultra sound. All our equipment is brand new, we are working to the highest gold standard.
I wasn’t expecting to be that busy when we opened, but we have 500 clients. Clients and not animals because already we treat about 800 pets. We are doing a great job so far. So far so good. We do operations, soft tissue surgery, emergency surgeries, we have a lot of cats neutered and dogs castrated. Not all is off peak surgeries, we accept all cases. We are lucky in Cyprus that vets bills are not as expensive as in the UK and so pet insurance is not necessary. I don’t 6
We are very passionate about what we do. I personally will never be defeated in my life, always trying my best and I work long hours I will do everything to save a patient, I have slept 5-7 days in the clinic to ensure a patient doesn’t die. I wanted to become a vet because I love the challenge. There are not a lot of vets in the area
and it isn’t just my love for animals, it is a profession, you need to be the best that you can be. It is a difficult and hard job. We never turn down a patient and already people come from as far away as Nicosia and Larnaca, we have a very good name. For more details call 23 744494

RADIO
MEET AGAPIOS GEORGIOU
FOUNDER OF ROCK FM CYPRUS WHICH OPERATES FROM PAPHOS How did the radio station start? I was working in radio in the ‘90s, in show production and in and I saw a gap in the market for an English speaking radio station playing good music. No one was doing it and I wanted to. It is called Rock FM but we play all kinds of commercial music. What is so special about Rock FM? We are more tan a radio station, we are a community hub, and we’re in a position to teach people how to do radio shows and carry our audio production and podcasts. This can be organised internally in the studio or through good phone apps. We broadcast 365 day a year, every day for 24 hours. We are completely independent but we do hook up with Rock FM in
Spain and UK for some shows. How does Rock FM operate? We have 8 presenters and 3 over the weekends. The fact that we can respond to our community quickly and send out a positive message to our 100,000 listeners.
What do you love about rock FM? Everything. Especially the fact that people can listen in Ayia Napa or Paralimni, on the other side of the island online from our website.

Cyprus swimming waters are the best in Europe after receiving a 100% quality rating by the EU’s environment watchdog
A
ccording to the European Environment Agency’s rankings for the 2020 swim season, Cyprus received a perfect score of 100% for excellent water quality at 112 swimming spots around the island, tested between May 1 and October 31 last year. Cyprus beat out Austria Greece and Malta which came in second, third and fourth. It is a timely boost for an island trying to woo holidaymakers back after a dismal 2020 summer that saw tourist arrivals plunge more than 84% from the previous, recordsetting year. Agriculture and Environment Minister Costas Kadis welcomed that Cyprus continues to hold first for Bathing Water Quality. “The excellent results are very important not only
10
for the health of bathers and the environment but also the economy of Cyprus, which is linked to the quality of our sea and tourist activity,” said Kadis. Cyprus has 112 beaches that are considered excellent. Virginijus Sinkevičius, Commissioner for the Environment, Fisheries and Oceans, said: “Bathing water quality in Europe remains high, and it’s good news for Europeans, who will be heading to beaches and bathing sites this summer. “This is the result of more than 40 years of Bathing Water Directive, hard work by dedicated
professionals and cooperation. The Zero Pollution Action Plan adopted in May will help to keep the waters healthy and safe and our seas and rivers clean.”

MUSIC
Aka Leo Romero, the official RagnBone man tribute act In an interview with Amanda Moss How did you get into singing? I have always been around singing from an early age as my mother was a huge Michael Bolton fan and we listened to all kinds of music. There was a joke in the family that when I asked her about my dad she would say Michael Bolton was. Whenever my mum had friends over, because I was stick thin she would make me crawl under the rug by the fire and sing Thriller by Michael Jackson and that’s how I discovered I could sing. Growing up in Wales I was in the choir too. When did you become professional? I was in school and getting into trouble with the lads I was hanging out with and my mum’s friends had a singing job and I got a job with them as their roadie so on Fridays and Saturdays I couldn’t be out and about running around.. They found out I could sing and dragged me up on stage 12
and I would get extra and from that point I realised I wanted to get paid for something I enjoyed doing. What was the turning point in your life? I was living in Spain, I had a bar there and was a KissFM presenter and I had a motorcycle accident in 2014, I was technically dead. There were messages on my facebook wall of condolence and people thought I was dead but after my crash I was back in Wales and my mum was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, I couldn’t walk, I was reading all these messages and writing back and there was a message from a girl I had a holiday romance with and I wrote back saying, “hey I’m not dead!” And I married her. Unfortunately we are now seperated. What is your biggest hope for the future? That I find my daughter. She was put up for
adoption 19 years ago and I just want to find her as I never wanted to give her up. I am on all the adoption websites and have been trying for years. But unless her parents tell her she was adopted she will never find out. How did you end up in Cyprus? I was living in Norway recuperating but Covid hit and lockdown was kicking in. I was working on some music I had online and some friends in Cyprus were trying to get me here for years and so I did. With the lockdown I couldn’t obviously get gigs so I through myself into the Helping Hearts charity as a volunteer. How did you become the RagnBone tribute? I have been following Rory since 2013 and following his music. He has done two studio albums and 16
EP’s. I’m really eclectic with my music choice and I like the fact that his music isn’t stuck in 1 genre. I started singing his songs and it kind of blew up from there. When I first started doing his tribute the only song people knew was Human so there would be another 11 songs to do but a lot were too far off the ball for people to understand so I added my own mix. That and trying to get the tracks made was a ballache because item weren’t out there. It’s been great because people have come up to me after my shows and said, “I didn’t know who RagnBone man was” and then they go and follow my music too. They get it now. His life is very similar to mine. What are your plans for the future? I am working with DNA records in Cyprus with Mac & vvs1 from So Solid Crew and a few other talented producers such as C4 and we’re doing a song for John Lennon Memorial Concert. There’s a lot of rap and it’s crossing genres and it’s really good and I have just done a music video for Equlibrium.

HEALTHCARE
Plenty of studies over numerous years have linked untreated hearing loss to an increased risk for dementia And while the reasons for why hearing loss seems to increase the risk of the dementia are still be somewhat tbd, the link between the two is not.
M
en with hearing loss, especially, seem susceptible — as today’s hearing fact confirms. Taken from a 2018 Australian study, it found that “men with hearing loss had a 69 percent greater hazard of developing dementia” than those who did not have a hearing impairment. It’s a hearing fact worth drawing attention to
14
during this Men’s Health Month. First, because both hearing loss and dementia are undeniably health-related issues. And second, because hearing loss is very treatable — and experts have concluded that treating hearing loss is one of several things we can do to help prevent or delay dementia. Men, if you’re ready to treat your hearing loss and be proactive
about potential future cognitive decline, we can help. Simply call 77772627 and a local hearing healthcare professionals will test your hearing and consult with you about treatment options available to you.

RESTAURANT
Lifestyle chats to
Andreas Olympus, owner of Woody’s
in Protaras and part of a family chain of restaurants throughout the area Tell us about your family My father after working three jobs to support his family, came up with the idea to open a restaurant. The first one was in Ayia Napa by Landa beach and then he opened a second one in the centre called The Good Fortune which was very very busy until the mid 90s. Then he found a restaurant on Protaras and opened that. We used to cater for 600 people at la carte every night. I was 18 years old and I was the manager looking after 26 waiters. That’s how busy we were. I was in the army and coming back to help my family business and that is how I learnt my trade. When did you open Woody’s? I opened in 2016 and it was me and my brother. I was also a
20
lifeguard (9 years as a life guard) and was working two jobs, working from 9am until 7pm on the beach and then coming straight here until 4am in the morning. I did it for a couple of weeks and then I gave up being a lifeguard because I couldn’t do both. I went to the town hall who managed the lifeguards and asked for two years off so I could dedicate my time to my business. Do you miss being a lifeguard? Very much so, I loved it but the money
was very bad. It was hard to leave as I was very good at my job, with excellent reviews. It is very important to me that whatever I do I always put the customer first and make sure they are happy. This applies to Woody’s too, everyone who comes here is my family, not guests. It is my passion, my life and respect goes a long way, whatever I do. What makes Woodys so special? There are no clubs in Protaras, and bar and restaraunt owners come here after they finish work. There is a lot of respect for this place, everyone is like family, I am very happy
for everyone to be happy here. We all look out for each other. I found this place because it overlooks the church on the hill and this is what makes people come here. We are on the outskirts of Protaras, we are the first bar or the last bar on the main road. I always
wanted my on place from the age of 19 and this is perfect as I take the good parts of every person. Are you optimistic for the rest of the season? Well with power and good
will I strongly believe we will get through this united and everyone needs to get back to normality. It is paradise here.

CANCER (21 JUNE – 22 JULY)
This is an excellent period for you to get in touch with yourself–what you truly want from life, and just how much power and strength you possess.Take the time to reflect on your life rather than forging forward and putting your foot in your mouth. However, try not to be oversensitive.

magnetism and charm are at a high. You begin to feel like your projects and business activities are moving forward. Opportunities to travel are very likely.

Secure Corporate and Domestic Storage in Cyprus
C
hange is bound to happen. Renovation, relocation, remodelling. All these rank as one of the most stressful life events. Your life and work are disrupted as you make adjustments and changes to your daily routine. Additionally, organising, packing and keeping track of your belongings is a hassle. Then, once you move, you have to figure out where to put all your items. Luckily, you can take away some of that stress by storing your possessions
24
at Peter Morton Removals storage facilities! At PMR, one of the core values is to make customers life as stress-free as possible. Renovation, Relocation and Remodelling, do not have to be stressful life events. Due to increased demand a few years ago, Peter Morton made a considerable investment and sourced a dedicated, massive storage facility on a 7,500 square meter site. Right now, it is ranked as the largest and safest storage facility in Cyprus. At PMR, the storage crates are made of wood and are 250 cubic ft each in size. The storage facilities are approved by BAR (British Association of Removers) and all crates are manufactured and imported from the UK. It’s easy to store items anywhere, but our warehouse is both convenient and protected. Considering
your belongings’ safety ahead of time will save you the stress of having to replace something later or potentially losing something irreplaceable, expensive or dear to your heart. Additionally, the warehouse itself and all goods that are in the store are fully insured! With the recent increase in Cyprus crime rates, storing valuable goods at home doesn’t seem like a safe option any longer. Unlike houses, storage facilities offer more security to stored items. At Peter Morton Removals, the whole facility is covered by a state-of-the-art security system monitored 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Three freerunning guard dogs also patrol the premises. It is, therefore, wiser to store valuable items in a
storage unit rather than in the garage or basement of our houses. Peter Morton Removals domestic storage crates are all individually numbered. They are loaded on to purposebuilt vehicles and brought to your house, ready to be loaded by the PMR team. Upon loading of each crate, with a full inventory, the doors will be secured. On arrival of the PMR vehicle back at a secure warehouse, your numbered crate will be placed back in its specific row by a forklift. This means your goods are not handled anymore from when collected. The redelivery process works exactly the same but in
reverse. Every crate that arrives at the warehouse is logged on to the computer system. You can access your domestic storage crates at any time by appointment with the office.
of where they going and what conditions they will be stored in. We welcome potential customers to come and view our facility, so you can see for yourself and be confident in your decision to use us.
At PMR, we always suggest to our clients that they come and look at the storage facility. If you want to store your goods, you need to be very sure For more information, please visit their website www.petermortonremoval.com or give them a call on 26923588 - Paphos office or 25722180 - Limassol office.25
“Our restaurant, our life’’
Our dream was to one day create good service for tourists that would make their holidays here in Cyprus, even more special. This dream came true in 1989, where we established a small family business in Ayia Napa, a restaurant, as I (Theo) am a trained chef and my brother (Peter) is a trained waiter. Since then we have tried our best to provide as much satisfaction as possible to our customers.
There’s a reason why Flames Restaurant is listed as one of Trip Avisor’s top ten restaurants in Ayia Napa. Dedicated to providing an excellent service, its winning mix of friendly staff, a great atmosphere and delicious food has delighted diners since it was established 1989. If traditional Cypriot dishes are what your after, Flames is the place to go. You’ll find House Specialities, Steak, Grills, Fish, Pasta Vegan and Vegetarian Dishes on the Menu. Not to mention its fabulous Wine list and homemade desserts - all chosen to complement your meal perfectly.

A LIFESTYLE OF WELLN
Heal your Inner Child to be a healthy Adult wellbeing In different surroundings we tend to act in slightly or significantly different ways. At work you may be one way, with friends another and with family yet another personality can arise. It is healthy to be a functional multi dimensional being. Psychology believes that one of the many inner aspects of self we possess is an inner child. It can be our playful aspect, it can also reflect some of our most core wounds and carry ancestral programing. A wounded child from childhood trauma or ancestral programing can rule a lot of havoc in your life if kept unchecked and not healed. Your relationships will often reflect a wonded inner child. Safety and intimacy are deeply linked. Beliefs like I am not good enough, I will be abandoned and not loved will usually find a way to creep up sabotaging your relationships. Our prespective is everything. If you see the world through the eyes of a wounded child you will

continue to experience the same patterns of hurt and disappointment.
Ekaterina Sophia in Larnaca Join Ekaterina for meditations at The Tree of Life in Larnaca, Thursdays 6pm
To know if you have a wounded inner child here are some of the questions you can ask yourself: Did I feel safe as a child, did I feel loved, did I feel like I belonged? What are my relationships like? How do you behave in relationships when something go wrong? Am I controlling? Do I fear abandonment? Do I trust life? Answering these kind questions can help you see yourself more clearly. Knowing yourself allows you to start to take your power back. Become aware of your inner child, start a journey of discovery through a dialogue with this key aspect of yourself. See,
hear and love your inner child and by doing so you will re parent yourself. This will bring healing to your life in so many ways. Take time to awaken a feeling of safety, know you are enough and most important give yourself time to play. With joy, Ekaterina Sophia

ARDA & THE STOLEN MOON Just the title makes you curious and gives you this instant mystical feeling about Arda & The Stolen Moon…..the moon, and Arda seem to have that effect. Arda Guevherian is a singer songwriter based in Nicosia. Her
newly released album, Outside in Perpetual Motion which was released on May 28th, is her second album and has been met with great acclaim worldwide, giving her a welcoming global audience. Her work has caught the attention of music buffs owing to her individuality, brave and original approach to her songs. The album is a combination of mature pop, Indie and clear elements of Rock. The songs display quirkiness and cleverly created tunes - an equation of melodic sounds, guitar riffs, bluesy in parts, folk infused and new wave indie influences. They have powerful catchy choruses and socially conscious lyrics with emphasis on modern day happenings. Listening to her music is like turning back the clock to when songs were organic and simpler. Arda’s sensitive and bashful nature can be
heard in her sweet raw vocals and contribute to making the songs memorable and liked. The album invokes a feeling of 70’s Hippie chill wave sounds, unearthing memories and nostalgia. If I didn’t know Arda, I would imagine her being from arty San Francisco or from the trendy parts of Chelsea in London. I describe her as a mystery train, you don’t know what you’re going to get, until you listen to her music and get that ‘Aha!’ moment. She’s a strong determined talented lady with a message….. a dreamer and a creator and her carefully produced album is proof of that. Outside In Perpetual Motion is available on music platforms and physically from the website ardaandthestolenmoon. com/shop
