Spokesman Domingo Leal from Amalia said, “Embarking on new adventures is part of our Italian passion. By opening the new site inside LIV Organic and Natural Foods market we step out of our main site to make something different and fun. The site consists of an outpost inside the market, where you can have pizza al tagglio while sitting down or take away! did we say we are also baking all types of breads that you can imagine?  In the new addition we will also be catering for many different tastes, including organic and vegan pizzas made with natural products.  We hope to see you all there soon! Come by and say hello,  same family, different site! We have had a lovely summer

and we think everyone has  enjoyed our terrace (maybe more than ever thanks to the lovely weather). now we can’t wait for the upcoming months... With the Italian Awards coming up, we wonder If we’ll win again this year for the fourth year in a row? The popular Liverpool Food and drink

Festival and its Awards  are also something we can’t wait to look forward! And with all the exciting events happening in Liverpool this Autumn, like the visit of the giants and Liverpool Fashion Week, Liverpool is definitely the place to be!“

Kylie will bring her extraordinary  creativity as a live performer  back to the stage this autumn  when she plays a uK and  Ireland ,and is here in Liverpool  on october 3rd Kylie, who  always thrills with her live  performances, promises a brand  new extravaganza for this  production which will be centred  around her new album 'golden',  although of course her amazing  back catalogue will be embraced. golden is the fourteenth studio album  by Australian singer Kylie Minogue. It was  released on 6 April 2018 by BMg Rights  Management.  A large portion of the record was recorded in nashville, Tennessee, where she found new inspiration with its music, and also recorded some material in London and Los Angeles, California.  The album was co-produced by Kylie alongside a variety of producers including Ash Howes, Richard "Biff" Stannard, Sky Adams, Alex Smith, and Mark Taylor, among others. Each track was co-written by Minogue, making it her first album since Impossible Princess (1997) to do so. Musically, golden is a pop record that is heavily influenced by country and dance music. described by Minogue as one of her most personal efforts, the lyrics encompass a wide range of themes including failed relationships, death, dancing and having fun. upon its release, golden received generally positive reviews from music critics, a majority of whom commended Minogue's honesty and personality through her songwriting skills, as well as its catchiness. However, critics were divided by the composition and her experimentation with country music. Commercially, the album entered the top twenty in several markets, including Australia, Belgium, germany, Ireland, new Zealand, Switzerland, and the united Kingdom; it became the singer's first album to peak at number one in both her native Australia and the united Kingdom since Fever in 2001.[2] golden has spawned four singles and one promotional single. "dancing" was released on 19 January 2018 to critical success some highlighting as one of Minogue's best singles to date. 8

A HUMONGOUS PICNIC BLANKET IS GOING TO BE CREATED BY YOUNGSTERS ACROSS LIVERPOOL AND WIRRAL TO FORM PART OF OCTOBER’S GIANT SPECTACULAR Thousands of children from the two areas will become dream Catchers as they prepare for Liverpool’s dream which takes place from 4-7 october.  A brand new participation programme for schools and community groups has been devised to complement the event which is anticipated to be Liverpool’s biggest event of the year.

As well as the picnic blanket, those involved in the participation programme will be invited to capture their dreams by designing their own t-shirts, football shirts or pyjama tops. These tops will be exhibited in a prime position in both Liverpool and new Brighton during the event, and will remain on display until the end of october.  An artist will oversee both the blanket and shirt designs to produce a final, beautiful installation which could also incorporate the children’s voices talking of their dreams.

Students, ranging from the ages of three to 16, will be encouraged to think about their own dreams - what their hopes are for their own future and that of their family and friends, what do they envisage for the place they call home live, and what they dream will be their legacy for future generations.

The giants were created in 1993 and have travelled all over the world taking over cities including Berlin, Barcelona, Santiago, Antwerp, guadalajara, Perth and Montreal.  The giants are manipulated by dozens of Lilliputians, bringing them to life and telling tales using a universal language. Royal de Luxe, the world’s leading street theatre company, is returning to its second home for a free, unmissable show from Thursday 4 to Sunday 7 october 2018.

This will then inspire the design deputy Mayor and cabinet of an enormous picnic blanket member for culture, tourism and which will form part of the show events, Councillor Wendy Simon, when it visits Princes Park and said: “When it comes to our the new Brighton area. major events we want to make Colourful applique, embroidery sure there is a strong and printing will be used to participation element which will depict the dreams and wishes resonate long after the giants of the young people. Those who have finished exploring our have taken part in the creation streets.  will be invited to attend a picnic in october, and they may be “What is great about this giant’s joined by a guest with a giant theme is that young people can appetite… let their imaginations run wild – 12

dreams can be weird and wonderful and we want those taking part to tap into this and really have fun with the project.” Mayor of Liverpool, Joe Anderson, said: “For many, this event will be one of the most highly anticipated events of the year. “Since the giants left us nearly four years ago, we have been approached hundreds of times by people asking when they are going to return.  “We always wanted the giant spectaculars to be a trilogy, but the final instalment had to be at the right time, with the right story – and what better than for it to take place in a year in which we celebrate how culture has transformed the city.

What was your biggest inspiration whilst at university in Liverpool? I had many things and people who inspired me, but I would have to say my biggest inspirarion was my love for Liverpool fc.

Rising fashion star Nadia Mohamed has already made a name for herself in the city. The LJMU graduate has been working with LFC and has been spotted by Vogue. Why did you choose a career in fashion? Fashion has always been something I've been interested in since I can remember, from designing clothes as a child to always styling my family and friends so when the time was right I decided to follow my passion.

14

Describe your designs and who are they aimed at? I designed a modest sports wear collection which was inspired by Liverpool Football club a collection aimed at modest/Muslim women designed to empower women and break down barriers.  Who would you like to dress? I would love to dress model Halima Aden as she's a great inspiration to Muslim women. But I would also love to dress an artist like Lauryn Hill.  You have had some high profile commissions, can you tell us about them? I've been featured in Vogue which was amazing, I've also been featured on BBC, France24 news, Liverpool Echo, Liverpool Football club website released a world wide feature and I had the opportunity to collaborate with them styling a photo shoot for a new collections of caps which was such a great experience I am

very fortunate to have had the opportunity.  What are your predictions for the fashion must have in 2019? Trench coats, chunky trainers and floral print!  Are there any specific textiles or materials you like to work with? I enjoy print as I love the possibilities you can come up with screen printing is fun too. For me as I like to design sportswear alot of my fabrics were stretch fabrics which I have learnt to love working with.  Fashion is very prominent in liverpool, what do you find most endearing about it? I love how fashion is such a big thing in this fantastic city. What's so spectacular about it is how people of all ages like to dress well and no matter what level people are at financially they still find a way to dress well! I feel proud to say I'm from Liverpool, I guess pride is something most Scousers have that's why we take pride in all we do! #weareliverpool  Contact details Email: nadia_atique_88@hotmail.com Instagram: @nadia.atique

YORKSHIRE BASED ARTIST TURNED FASHION DESIGNER CREATES A RANGE OF “PAINT YOUR OWN” JACKETS AS EXPRESSIVE ART THERAPY

GoGairy hand painted leathers is the one of the fastest growing fashion brands in the uK and is the brainchild of artist and mental health campaigner richard Gair He designs bespoke hand painted jackets in either leather or vegan friendly faux leather. Superheroes, rock icons and cartoon characters are his favourite commissions, but he can design almost anything to order and is looking to produce work for the higher end fashion market. Each oneoff piece comes with a certificate and an assurance that it is the only one of its kind. now gogairy Hand Painted Leathers are encouraging their customers to make their own mark, literally. Richard’s thirty-year friendship and association with artist, Pete Jarvis, AKA ‘The doodle Monkey’ has led to a collaboration creating Jackets you can colour yourself. The new range of black and white doodle jackets, which come with all the tools and materials you will need. three primary colours, black and white acrylic paint and

varnish and simple to follow instruction cards. All the paints are ethically sourced and not tested on animals. Richard said, "These jackets are designed for kids and adults alike, I mean, who doesn't like to colour in?” He added, “Working on these very special jackets with others, offers the chance support in communication which leads to confidence building and ultimately opens a door to selfexpression through creativity”. Richard went on to say, “It gives people a sense of ownership of their jacket, will give them some pride in wearing it and at the same time, provide therapy and healing to those who enjoy colouring; learning skills that we are losing slowly but surely.” Colouring in has been widely proven to aid people's mental health, to stimulate their mind in a positive way and enhance their emotions. As someone who has regularly suffered with mental health issues and lack of confidence, Richard and Pete supported each other through

creating artworks and gained a new interest in trying to engage and support others in a similar situation. “gogairy Hand painted leathers has saved me on so many ways and with the support of others allowed me to reach a point in my life where I can really believe that I’m not alone in this and they do understand. That means more than you might think. Hope, at a time when I have been in such a dark place in my own mind.  “I wish that the doodle Jackets will help to support others too. A group environment is often a very scary place for many and the fundamental idea of bringing people together to create something wonderful is a very powerful thing.  The doodle Jacket are also enormous fun. As each one is individually created for every customer, they can offer a certain personality to each colourist. Just get in touch with us at www.gogairy.co.uk and we can have a chat about what you would like to see on your very own doodle Jacket!

the taliban nearly killed hero soldier Andy reid. the St helen’s corporal was blown up by an explosive device whilst on parol and lost an arm and both legs. he is now one of the top inspirational speakers in the uK on the corporate circuit and is nominated for a positive Awards this month. he now runs a bar in St helen’s whilst bringing up his two young children with his wife and actively campaigns for positive mental health. his courage and resilience humbles everyone he meets. In an interview with Amanda Moss

We met at the local coffee shop where he is well known but he doesn’t think of himself as a celebrity even though he classes duncan Ballantyne as a friend. “I may have 10,000 followers on twitter but if that’s what other people see you as then that’s all well and good. doing what I do on a daily basis to be the best person that I can be, be the best dad I can and support people with disabilities is who I am. If people want to put you in a box then that’s up to them.” What keeps him motivated is his colleagues that didn’t come home from Afghanistan. He says, “ultimately what motivates me is thinking of the guys that didn’t come home. Luckily for me I am still here despite my injuries and I can see my kids, they don’t have that so for me that’s my motivation. Secondary to that it is showing other disabled people, other guys with injuries that things can still be achieved if you work hard and set

yourself goals or challenges as well. Realistic goals, small goals. So I set myself an immediate goal and then work towards a middle term goal and then bigger, long term goal so they’re easier to achieve and that’s what gets me through the weeks, the months.” His autobiography, Standing Tall was written in 2012 and was printed in hardback and then paperback. Most recently he has got a job with a big recruitment company in Manchester called Morson who are sponsoring a reprint of the book with a couple of new chapters. “For me it was part of the post traumatic stress disposed speaking in the army 6 guys in the army last years took their own life but for me writing the book kind of offloaded that stress so I am not sat at home dwelling about what has happened. Writing a book and downloading it onto paper out of my mind helped a lot and made it a bit easier for me. Speaking at events and in schools, talking about it once or twice a week has been very helpful. Anyone who has had any adversity in life, a car  crash or a loved one passed away will tell you that writing down your feelings in a journal or bouncing it to other people will help themselves enormously. Mindfulness is also a big thing for me. Living in the moment. going for a walk and not thinking about that day at work or what’s happened in your life. Just looking at the colour of the trees and nature and see what things have changed since yesterday on the same walk is a good thing. Mindfulness is incredibly important.”

people that just get things done.

We all know the people that walk

into a room and the room lights up. We have also met the people that enter a room and a dark cloud of limitations comes in with them. We’ve met people where the glass is half empty ... and we all know people were the glass is half full. We have all met people where everything is a problem. ... yet there are those where everything is an opportunity and a challenge to overcome.

You’ve met the people that believe you get more of what you look for ... and you’ve met people that just believe they have nothing but bad look. You know the people who believe we make our own luck. ... there’s those that believe every silver lining is connected to a dark cloud ... and those that just take the dark cloud in their stride looking for a silver lining. You’ve met people that tell you all the good reasons why something can’t be done ... but you also know

This September in Liverpool we will be celebrating and recognising those people that don’t know the meaning of giving up. This will be the first year of the Positive Awards of Liverpool ... I think this poem should be our beacon ... it’s called don’t Quit. When things go wrong, as they sometimes will, When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill, When the funds are low and the debts are high, And you want to smile, but you have to sigh, When care is pressing you down a bit, Rest, if you must, but don’t you quit. Life is queer with its twists and turns, As every one of us sometimes learns, And many a failure turns about, When he might have won had he stuck it out, Don’t give up though the pace seems slow, You may succeed with another blow. Often the goal is nearer than It seems to a faint and faltering

man, Often the struggler has given up, When he might have captured the victor’s cup, And he learned too late when the night slipped down, How close he was to the golden crown. Success is failure turned inside out, The silver tint of the clouds of doubt, And you never can tell how close you are, It may be near when it seems so far, So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit, It’s when things seem worst that you mustn’t quit. - Author Unknown. We have all met the nay sayers and ‘can’t do’ people.  But I hope you can spot the ‘can do’ people ... the making things happen people ... and that you try to keep these people close to you ... as well as being one yourself. Attitudes are contagious ... VINCENtIuS rEFuND YOu Vincentius Bespoke Tailoring has launched in Liverpool, bringing with it a fresh approach to the traditional art. designed with the successful, modern gentleman in mind, Vincentius combines the highest standards of craftsmanship with a cool, cosmopolitan aesthetic. Behind the brand are two Liverpool brothers. Solicitors by trade, Thomas & Robert Hardwick are used to being surrounded by successful businessmen, sports icons and celebrities. So they were well placed to notice that, amongst men who appreciate the finer things in life was a shared struggle to find modern, quality tailoring. In a bid to fill this omission, they joined forced with luxury menswear experts Rich gregson and Rob Tattan and Vincentius was born. A departure from the 'dark wood and red carpet' gentlemen's lounge environment traditionally synonymous with luxury tailoring, the Vincentius experience has a defined sense of modernity. This cosmopolitan sophistication carries through its clothing range, which includes hand-crafted suits, bespoke shirts,  handmade ties and footwear which can be designed by clients themselves, using a state-of-the-art online platform.  Vincentius will be based at 9 Queens Avenue, dale Street, Liverpool, L2 4TZ in the heart of the central business district and will officially open its doors on 14th September. The team have already made suits for some well known figures in the region with a certain Sir Kenny dalglish being one of the first to have a suit made. Sir Kenny is now booked in to have another suit made for when he actually meets the queen to pick up his knighthood. Liverpool brand Refund You is helping thousands of borrowers to claim against payday loan firms that missold to them using unfair, irresponsible practices. Huge numbers of consumers have struggled with debt after being charged sky high rates on short-term lending and one northwest law firm is helping them to right the wrongdoing. Before a cap was placed on the short-term loan industry in 2014, many people found themselves with spiralling debts after borrowing from payday loan companies. Some borrowers found themselves taking out multiple loans from the likes of Wonga, Quick Quid and others, in order to pay off earlier loans from the same firms. The Financial Conduct Authority has ordered lenders to make amends for this but it is estimated that, four years on, over a million people in the uK alone could still be awaiting compensation. In the wake of this irresponsible lending, Refund You is helping claimants to recoup the monies owed to them. 12 months into the venture it is generating so many successes that they are about to take it international. Refund You Australia is due for an imminent launch, with a uSA office set to follow. Refund You is a consumer trading brand of High Street Solicitors, a law firm based in Liverpool city centre that specialises in financial mis-selling. Sean Rogers, a director of High Street Solicitors, said: “The extent of this mis-selling is staggering. For a period of years, people already struggling financially were sold loans despite being in no position to pay them back, and then charged astronomical rates. Financial checks were minimal. As a result, people ended up in some dire situations. The Financial Conduct Authority now recognises this but many people still haven't received the compensation that they are fully entitled to. That is where Refund You steps in.  “We're generating fantastic successes for borrowers that have been through some really tough times. We're pleased to be able to do this for our clients and excited to be working with international law firms to take the Refund You brand into other territories. We must also give credit to the lenders, some of whom we now have strong, amicable relationships with as we work with them to get compensation to their former clients.” Refund You is a consumer brand controlled by High Street Solicitors, a modern Liverpool law firm that prides itself on innovation, technological advancement and customer satisfaction. www.refundyou.co.uk www.high-street-solicitors.co.uk

YOUNG PEOPLE GET A BLAST FROM THE PAST WITH CITY HERITAGE TRAIL L IVERPooL’s young people are on a

quest to unlock the secrets of some of city’s most iconic buildings as part of an exciting new project to find city’s very own Young Heritage Champions. The youths, aged between 14 and 19 recently took part in a series of workshops, tours and practical sessions all aimed at giving them a greater appreciation of the city’s rich heritage.  The Young Heritage Champions (YHC) project is being spearheaded by Liverpool City Council’s Mayoral Lead for Heritage, Cllr Alice Bennett who has recruited the young people from schools and youth groups. Cllr Bennett said: “This  programme that will take the young people on a journey through the city’s heritage. during the sessions and tours they will be learning about the history of some of our most prestigious buildings. They will be

looking at the architecture and design and learning more about the various artworks on display. We will also be giving them a chance to hone their photography skills by capturing the events on camera as well as their art and design skills.” “The young people will be encouraged to think of the future of the city for the next 100 years and how to preserve its heritage as we move into the future.” The week kicked off at St george’s Hall where the young time travellers will get a grounding on the stunning Minton Tiled Floor. They will also look at buildings at risk across the city to give them an understanding of conservation and preservation. The week will include an introduction to Liverpool’s World Heritage Site, a look inside the town hall, St Luke’s Church and the georgian Wellington Rooms, Mount Pleasant. The young people will be given the chance to contemplate the relevance and importance of heritage to their generation and look at how they would use their new found skills to re-design where they live.  The young people come from all over Liverpool but all share a passion for their city. Heritage Champion Faith McCabe, 17,

from West derby, said: “I am really pleased to be taking part in this event. It’s a chance for us to find out more about some of the wonderful buildings and places in Liverpool. “our heritage is something I think is often overlooked by young people but I think it’s really important that we learn all about it.” At the end of the project they were given a certificate by deputy Lord Mayor of Liverpool Cllr Peter Brennan before being officially hailed as Young Heritage Champions. Cllr Bennett, added: “The reason I started this is because decision makers tend to be older and usually male who at the most come up with 15 year plans. This programme gives a voice to young people to help them think about how they can influence decision making and the shape of the city over the next 100 years. “Heritage is an area that is often overlooked for young people but we believe it is vital that they learn more about it and become passionate about the past. “Young people are the future of the city so it is only right that they become the custodians of its past.” For more information on Liverpool’s World Heritage site visit: www.liverpool.gov.uk/worldheritage

With the new school year starting, new research has found that British parents would like to see subjects such as religious Studies, physical Education and Geography replaced to make way for more life-skill lessons. According to the survey, parents would rather their children were learning how to deal with their finances, how to lead a healthy lifestyle and how to manage their mental health; all subjects they feel are life skills their children will go on to use. Parents want their children to learn things at school that they’ll go on to use after leaving education, or subjects that will encourage them to do great things with their lives, with many feeling that religious studies, physical education and geography not able to provide such a foundation.  The back to school team behind www.myvouchercodes.co.uk/back-toschool-vouchers surveyed 2,414 British parents, all of whom stated that they had at least one child in secondary school. The research looking into the perceptions of the current curriculum and what subjects parents think their children should be learning for their futures.

Initially all respondents were asked what subjects they felt their children were learning that they wouldn’t go on to need and could be replaced by other subjects. The top subjects parents felt could be replaced were found to be ‘religious studies’ (31%), ‘physical education’ (30%) and ‘geography’ (28%). This was followed closely by ‘science’ (25%) and ‘history’ (23%).  All respondents were asked what subjects they would like to see introduced in the upcoming curriculum that they feel their children would most benefit from. When provided with a list of possible subjects - some that may already be available in some schools and throughout certain years, but not available to all - and told to select all that they felt would be a good inclusion, the top subjects were found to be the most popular: Finance, i.e. mortgages, tax and savings accounts - 72% Leading a healthy lifestyle, i.e. how to cook and eat well - 55% Managing your mental health - 51% dIY, i.e. changing a light bulb, changing a fuse, building furniture, etc. - 46% Website coding - 28% A further 11% felt that students should get interview training and an additional 9% felt that ‘self-defence’ is something

their children could do with learning. When asked at what stage these should be introduced to the curriculum, over two fifths felt they should be introduced from as early as Year 7 (42%), whilst a further one in three felt they should be introduced from Year 10 onwards, for the upcoming gCSEs (34%). Following on from this, when respondents were asked why they felt these subjects were more important, parents cited ‘they provide life skills they’ll go on to use’ (48%) and ‘these will encourage children and students to have the best chance in life’ (30%). Anders nilsson, spokesperson at www.myvouchercodes.co.uk/back-toschool-vouchers, said:  “Whilst the curriculum provides a wide variety of subjects for students to learn and grow from, our research has found that some parents feel it needs to be updated with topics more relevant to current society and workplaces. Personal finance and healthy living came top of the parental wish-list perhaps reflecting the current climate of financial uncertainty and rising living costs, as well as the shift in trends towards healthier, active lifestyles and fitness challenges.”

As Scottish singer/songwriter Eddi reader prepares to come to Southport as part of her anticipated tour, she chats exclusively to Lifestyle magazine. her first album with her band Fairground Attraction, First of a million Kisses, reached no 2 in the album chart in 1989 and since then she hasn’t stopped, eventually going solo after the birth of her child. She has released 9 albums and in 2006 won an mBE for outstanding contribution to the arts. her brand new studio album ‘Cavalier’ released worldwide on September 28 by reveal records. Featuring sixteen songs, including recently performed live favourites Wonderful, My Favourite dress, Starlight and Maiden’s Lament, the new album was recorded and produced in glasgow, Scotland by Eddi Reader and John douglas.  Cavalier is a new creative peak in an already prestigious career, just under an hour of new music, incorporating both contemporary and traditional songs. What was it like winning a BrIt award and where do you keep it now? My sister has one and the other one is a bit distorted by me using it to nail up my four honorary

doctorates and a painting I did of my dad Which do you prefer, singing or acting? Right now? in this airport? After a gig in donegal? I prefer any activity that means I get to lie doon. What has been the highlight of your career to date? Reaching high notes that make me fly and going to places on our planet that without singing I would never have seen, but the biggest highlight was discovering that people love songs the way I love them What are your songwriting influences? All eventualities in life - recovery, salvation when nothing feels salvable, at this point it’s: kids growing up, letting go of them, the way all is always well. What do you enjoy about going on tour? Playing with my mates- they are a great bunch of humans the music industry can be very fickle, how do you stay on top of your game? I don’t get involved with “the music industry”. I do gigs, I save up to buy studio time, I ask my friend and manager Tom Rose to help me publish any work I do, I

ask my angel organiser Jane Skinner to help me catch planes and hire buses, hotels, musicians and I’m all set What can the audience in Southport expect from you? I don’t know - I have no set list and rely on the evening to inform me. Clearly I have a back catalogue but I’ve a new album “Cavalier” out in September so I will try out a few of those songs on the Southportitians  And definitely all the old ones will want an airing. how did it feel to be awarded an mBE? It’s a long time ago but I remember my family throwing a big party and my mum getting a new hat. of course the hat is all dusty now and at the end of the party the sister fell out with the brother and everybody ignored me and my medal for singing after that. I get nice wee adverts to buy royal crockery every so often now I’m on their mailing list. Sometimes I’ll buy a wee cup with “ER” on it, they are my initials. Eddi and her band will tour in support of ‘Cavalier’. The  intimate uK october concerts are on sale  this week, details of Scottish and Irish shows to follow soon.  tickets from www.thegigcartel.com/artistsprofiles/eddi-reader.htm and  http://www.eddireader.co.uk/gigs

The Mikhail Hotel and Leisure group is planning to continue its expansion across Southport with the addition of the upmarket 27room hotel. The group is already responsible for  the Bold Hotel on Lord Street,

which underwent a multi-million pound renovation in 2016 and has seen a dramatic increase in popularity. It has played a role in the creation of the town’s northern Quarter through the opening of Irish pub Punch Tarmey’s in 2016 and then the adjacent nightclub Khepri. The new hotel is above Kehpri, which opened in July 2017 as an Egyptian restaurant and nightclub. However, as part of the plans, Khepri has been transformed into an upmarket champagne and wine bar, featuring live music including the likes of saxophonists and pianists. Andrew Mikhail, chairman of the Mikhail Hotel and Leisure group, said: “We are really excited about our latest boutique hotel. “We saw great potential in the town when we first came across the Bold Hotel at the start of 2016. Since acquiring that and bringing it up to the standard that it is now, we have opened another three venues within a very small radius as we know that the customer base is there for the right type of business. “The Bold Hotel is often fully booked and this year has ran at 95% occupancy which says not only are the rooms a high standard but we know that there is a demand for another high quality hotel in the town achieving the same standards as the Bold.

He added: “We worked closely with Sefton Council’s planning department and we believe that what we are doing is truly enhancing a previously neglected part of the town. “What we have created can only add to the investment coming into the town and the number of jobs that the group has created. The new hotel has created another 50 jobs.” www.lordstreethotel.com

PUNCH TARMEY’S LIVERPOOL LAUNCHES

Punch Tarmey’s Liverpool has launched in what is one of the biggest Irish pubs in the industry. Sports-led, including brewery tours, with a family-friendly vibe daytime along with being a destination for party revellers at night, the vast venue will become a tourism hotspot says Andrew Mikhail chairman of Mikhail Leisure. “We’ve invested approaching £2m into Punch Tarmey’s Liverpool and it’s a professional and personal dream come true for me especially because of my Irish roots. My great grandfather was a renowned bareknuckle fighter nicknamed Punch

Tarmey, the name that gave birth to an existing portfolio of bars we own and operate in the region. We’ve already had great initial feedback with many people commenting on the transformation and how stunning the pub looks. “My dear nan was such a hardworking, humble Irish woman who came from nothing and saved every penny to see her family were ok. I know she’d be feeling very proud right now as we all are and we can’t wait to maximise the potential of this development at Cains Brewery. This is the first phase of four and we know people are really excited about us reviving the micro brewery as part of

the second phase that will be ready in March 2019 including many of the old Cain’s favourites including Raisin Ale.” Punch Tarmey’s food and drink menu includes signature dishes such as a Trio of Irish sausages with colcannon and onion gravy, Pogues’ marinated chicken breast burger with all the trimmings, Irish stew with soda bread, Bacon chops, Colcannon mash and cabbage, Steak and guinness pie and Chickpea, sweet potato and spinach curry (vegan).  drinks across a wide artisan range of beers, wines and spirits include rare Irish whiskeys and gin, plus craft and cask beers and classic cocktails.

BARRY CLIMBS SNOWDONIA TO HELP WIN THE FIGHT AGAINST PANCREATIC CANCER Barry grace, 38, from Liverpool, will be climbing Snowdonia to help raise vital funds and awareness for Pancreatic Cancer Action in September. The cause is very close to Barry’s heart as in 2014 he has to make the life changing decision to have his pancreas, gallbladder and spleen removed because there

Pancreatic cancer is the uK’s 5th biggest cancer killer. The survival rate is just 5% which is the lowest of any cancer. Pancreatic Cancer Action is committed to working towards earlier diagnosis of the disease so that surgery, currently the only cure, is made available to the sufferer.  The charity fund research into early diagnosis, provide medical education programmes, and launch awareness campaigns. Ali Stunt, Founder of Pancreatic Cancer Action, said: “Barry has been through so much and we are honoured that he is now taking on this incredible challenge for us.” “We rely solely on donations from the public and thanks to people like Barry that we can continue our vital work. We would like to thank Barry and wish him good luck in his climb.” You can sponsor Barry here: https://www.justgiving.com/fund raising/barry-grace

About pancreatic Cancer Action Pancreatic Cancer Action is a uK based charity whose mission is to improve the survival rate of pancreatic cancer through early diagnosis. The charity’s approach is to raise awareness of pancreatic cancer to the public, the medical community and government, provide education and training on pancreatic cancer to medical professionals and fund research specifically into improving early diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. Pancreatic Cancer Action was founded by Ali Stunt, who is a rare survivor of the disease who wanted to change the low survival rate. Further information about pancreatic cancer • Each year, almost 10,000 people are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in the uK. • Every day, 24 people will die of pancreatic cancer – that’s more than the number who will die in road traffic accidents. • Less than 7% of people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer will survive for more than five years – this is because the cancer is very advanced when diagnosed.  unlike other cancers, this figure has not changed significantly in over 40 years.  If patients are able to have surgery and diagnosed early, 5-year survival increases to 30% • There no early detection test for pancreatic cancer. • The uK has one of the lowest survival rates for pancreatic cancer in the world. • Just under half of patients are diagnosed after admission to A & E.  the six key symptoms include: • unexplained and significant weight loss • Abdominal pain or discomfort that can come and go, which tends to get worse • Indigestion that’s not responding to prescribed medication • Yellowing of the skin and/or eyes, dark urine or very itchy skin (jaundice) • Fatty and pale stools that are smelly and hard to flush • Mid-back pain or discomfort ref: www.panact.org/symptoms

DUTCH JAZZ SENSATION

CARO EMERALD 46

With a brand new uK tour approaching including a stopover in Liverpool, Dutch jazz sensation Caro Emerald talks about her new show, becoming a judge on a tV talent show dutch born singer Caro Emerald studied at the Amsterdam Jazz Conservatory, the largest music academy in the netherlands. But the jazz production of Quincy Jones or sultry vocals of Sarah Vaughan weren’t her earliest musical inspirations. For Caro it was Madonna. “I was 5 or 6 years old when I got my first album on cassette and I would listen to it over and over again and practise in front of the mirror and dress up like her. I think every other girl did that in school but she really was a big influence on me.” Little did a 5 year old Caro know that she would go on to top the dutch charts herself with her debut album ‘deleted Scenes from the Cutting Room Floor’. not only smashing any record Madonna had set, the album broke the record for most weeks consecutively at number one (27 weeks to be precise) beating the previous record of 26 weeks set by Michael Jackson’s Thriller.  Almost 10 years on, Caro is still as blown away by this fact as she was back then. “I still feel the same,” she laughs. “There was so much happening, I came out of nowhere.  I never had made music before and then I was on top of every chart! I didn’t really know anything about numbers and statistics, I didn’t really know how to actually recognise my success!” Talking about breaking Michael Jackson’s record, you can still hear the surprise in her voice. “This is when I realised how phenomenally big it was. It

doesn’t make sense, it still doesn’t for me! It’s Michael Jackson. It shows what a big influence this has had on the dutch music industry. But Michael Jackson is bigger than anyone on the planet, it doesn’t feel like I beat him.”

also a big part of this. We really work as a collective. “We want to give a full experience to each person in the room, both visual and musical. Like you’re inside a movie and you get to dream away about stories that aren’t yours.”

It wasn’t just in the netherlands where Caro made a name for herself. over in the uK ‘deleted Scenes…’ went to number 4 in the uK charts, where it is certified gold, and her second album ‘The Shocking Miss Emerald’ topped the charts with her signature vintage-pop sound and Caro’s name was on the lips of the nation, with numerous national TV and radio appearances. Having released a handful of EPs since then Caro has continued to tour the country, selling out venues that homegrown artists would dream of. “I feel completely blessed to be one of those artists that can continue touring. I have a very loyal audience in the uK and I’m very happy of that. I think the way that we make the show is a full package that apparently my uK audience love.”

Away from her own career Caro has also recently announced she will be a judge on a new televised dutch talent competition called ‘The Talent Project'. “It’s very exciting! I haven’t done much TV apart from promoting my own music. I’ve been asked to be on other celebrity typed shows and I always decline because I feel like it’s not where I want to go. But this really suits me.” Before becoming a global music star, Caro worked as a singing teaching, and with her own experience is keen to “pass it on and work with new talent. It’s a new chapter in my life and career.” Caro doesn’t come across as the brutal Simon Cowell type but tells me the acts’ standards of musicality has to be exceptionally high. “The other big thing that is very important is to see the drive in their eyes. I want to see that they actually live for the music.”

Can returning fans expect any surprises on this brand new tour? “definitely as we are always adding some surprise and some new material and arrangements. I do this with my fantastic (musical) team; david Schreurs and Jan van Wieringen. We all work together when we talk about visuals and creating the right and final set list. our musical director and band leader Stephen Large is

With Caro’s nonstop writing and increasingly ambitious and well received live shows, she’s clearly an artist herself who still has that desire and drive in her eyes. Caro Emerald tours the uK in the autumn. For a full list of dates go to www.caroemerald.com/tour/ She will appear at The Liverpool Philharmonic on 16 october

this year we celebrate women across time, cultures, and industries by chronicling their stories in #100Women #100Stories Book. Through #100Stories we hope to  raise the profiles of  women fighting to empower women  in the battle of equality that rages on and the   future generations to follow their lead.  onE hundred years since Women were first granted the  the right to vote, a new kind of suffragette is rising. #100Women100Stories is an honest endeavour to make Women Stories more #VISIBLE. The campaign  kickstarted on 1st July and has already garnered support from #AndyBurhnma’s office, #Leader of Bolton Council and #Women from across Bolton, gMR, Lancs and northwest. The Book   with a feature and message from deputy Mayor of gMR,  Baroness Hughes.  Marian White Edelman famously said: ““You can’t be what you can’t see.” Countless studies have proven that girls and young women are negatively affected when they cannot see positive role models. Research shows that women managers who lack powerful role models are less likely to be taken seriously by the people who work for them, while governments with significant numbers of women politicians are more likely to pass women-friendly laws. It is clear, then, that seeing and hearing from more women would make a radical difference to gender equality in the uK. given the shocking statistics of under representation of women in positions of power, this is alarming.  And it matters!  Which is why #100Women100Stories, a #LegacyBook  to make Women Stories of courage, compassion and achievement so relevant.

#100WOMEN100STORIES THE NEW SUFFRAGETTES

#100Women100Stories is  brain child of gulnaz Brennan. Founder of Inspire Women Awards, gulnaz has an extensive background of working  with and for Women through various platforms of Women Awards, Publications and Events. In her own words,  “I have been amazed and inspired by remarkable women, their perseverance, tenacity and achievements. Women breaking the glass ceiling in business, politics, public and private sector. Women going above and beyond their call of duty, everyday heroes, positive role models in our communities,  cancer survivors, fundraisers, self employed women entrepreneurs.” To mark # 100years she  decided to chronicle some of these extraordinary stories of courage, passion, sacrifice and success, and   shine a light on  ‘The new Suffragists’ shaping and defining today’s landscape. The Book will be published  and launched to mark International Women’s day in March, next year. An exhibition ‘Faces of Inspiration’ is also planned later in the year. A self- professed techie, gulnaz is also exploring possibilities of using new technology of  ‘augmented reality’ in the Book…where images turn instantly into videos on your iPhone or iPads. A big thanks to the fantastic #Team comprising of Sital Raja-Arjan, John Bentley, Emma Hughes and Farzana Patel, #60Stories have already been recorded and the quest for another 40 continues.  If you have an inspiring story or know someone whose story inspires you, please get in touch 100WomenStories.Inspire@gmail.com  https://m.facebook.com/InsprAwrds/ t @InsprWomen

Love Aesthetics' ethos has always been about providing the highest quality clinical, evidence based procedures at a reasonable price. After dedicating the last five years working fully in aesthetics I have found the best way to do this is by having a purpose built clinic at my home to reduce overheads. Due to the ever growing clientele we have now located to a larger home based premises to accommodate our growing needs. We are still based in West Derby and prices remain the same as does flexibility and the highest clinical care.

I can’t believe we’re hurtling through the year and we’re into a new season already. hello autumn! Everyone’s back to school and work after the summer break, the footie season’s started and everyone's focused on new goals. (pardon the pun) It’s an exciting month for Lifestyle as we launch our first positive Awards, this is destined to be an incredible night of inspirational people from around the country coming together to hear each other’s stories. top goal setting coach Darren Lawrenson will be leading the night’s activities, I am confident that everyone in the room will leave both empowered and humbled. One of our finalists, war veteran Andy reid chats to us about the obstacles he has overcome, his story is incredible. plans are also underway for Liverpool Fashion Week in October at the jaw dropping British music Experience. there’s no better place for it to be held, after all isn’t Liverpool the ultimate destination for music and fashion? tickets are on sale now so don’t delay - www.liverpoolfashionweek.co.uk It’s a big month for Liverpool with the Giants and their long awaited return to the city and pop princess Kylie also flies in to entertain us. Not a week goes by in our fabulous city without something exciting for everyone, it really is the best city in the world to live in, we are so blessed. have a fabulous month and stay positive, there’s a lot to be thankful for

Award winning Buddha Therapies

owner Tracy McMahon has teamed up with partner Terence Kavanagh to create the ultimate holistic nourishing food and wellbeing company for your mind, body and spirit - nutrilabs

“There’s a huge change in the way we eat. There’s a science to the way we serve our food to our bodies, combining East with West” nutrilabs is a product of Buddha Therapies, helping to bring a mindful way to eat, bringing eastern therapies, medicinal herbs and oils and western science together, serving wholesome, nutritious foods which are destined to be a biological and mindful remedy, in concert with organic farming and nutritious food combined with holistic therapies to help heal from the inside out, “When we water a plant we water the root not the leaves, balance starts within”. nutrilabs and Buddha Therapies approach works at the foundations of healing taking into consideration the traditional eastern Asian, medical theory, that there are three things that are essential to life, JIng, QI and SHEn -  “The Three Treasures”, –JIng – Your Essence!!! using an array of eastern and western therapies collated using an individual consultation and prescription treating your symptoms and conditions, we aim to prevent disease rather than cure,  QI -  Your energy!!! With what we ingest being the key as to how our physical and emotional energy is sustained for our overall health, SHEn – Your Spirit!!! With meditation, life coaching, spiritual readings and future yoga classes and workshops to help towards peace and wisdom, the three treasures is a priority in healing for the mind, body and spirit.

At nutrilabs our food tends to be plant based. So the majority of the diet comes from a wide spectrum of quality plant foods including whole grains, legumes (beans, peas, lentils), vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, sea veggies and fresh water algae. In the most reliable studies, a diet of 90% or more whole foods yields far less risk of common degenerative diseases.  The Asian traditions serve as healing guideposts by themselves. In addition we use them as filters to help determine which aspects of nutritional science make the most sense.  ABOut uS Terence Kavanagh, I’m a serial entrepreneur, mentor, speaker and investor. He said, " My passion in life is creating value to every living thing and to show everybody that we can coexist with our beautiful mother earth. I find it extremely satisfying to see my ideas become a reality and actually make a difference to someone’s life.  My investment philosophy is very simple I look for two things. The first is that the start-up is working on making the world a better place and the second is that the founder is a good person with ambition.  I found Buddhism in 2011 leading me to wanting to better my mental and physical condition I
