APRIL ISSUE 97 A NOTE FROM OUR EDITOR…
HELLO
LOVELY LIFESTYLE READERS! Summertime and the living is easy. Festival season is here and the city is ready for one big summertime party, I can’t wait for the next few months. There is something for everyone, from food festivals with local produce created and cooked by local independent eateries that we have been blessed with an abundance of in the city. There are literary festivals, art festivals, and all this before we get to the extravaganza of the Mersey River Festival, Sound City, We Love, Africa Oye and Pride. Phew, lots of partying in the sun to be had, best top up on my sun block and get on to buying those super on trend espadrilles that I have been drooling over the last few weeks. We will be coving as much of these festivals as possible over the next few months, to show and promote all things that our readers and their families can to do and get involved with in and around the city over the next few months. So open the windows, turn the music up, dance with abandon, show your children that you are still a child yourself by running through the water fall in Queens Square with them, but most of all, whatever you and your families get up to, I hope you have the best summer ever!

WHAT MAKES BESPOKE MATCHMAKING DIFFERENT TO OTHER DATING SERVICES? I’m a Certified Matchmaker. This means I successfully completed an accredited training program provided by The Matchmaking Institute, world leaders in this field.: As part of the certification program I trained with some of the world’s most successful matchmakers including Patti Stanger (The Millionaire Matchmaker), Jason Silver (We Just Match), and Lisa Clampitt (VIP Life) to name but a few. As a member of the Matchmaking Institute I’m bound by a code that ensures I behave in a way that is ethical and professional. As a result, my clients can be sure that they are being looked after by a professional. I specialise in Bespoke Matchmaking, which enables me to provide a truly customized and personal service to a select clientele based primarily across the North of England, but with some clients as far afield as the US and Australia. HOW DOES MY SERVICE WORK? Bespoke matchmaking is a highly specialized service that requires a greater depth of knowledge about my client, their motivations, fears, hopes and dreams. Together with my extensive knowledge and understanding of how people behave in relationships I am an expert in my field. This in-depth level of detail enables me to personally hand-select the singles with the greatest likelihood of being a perfect match for each of my individual clients. Unlike many other matchmaking companies, I DON’T use algorithms or computer programs to find matches for my clients. I use a variety of methods to search for, and select, only the best single people. This will include reviewing my ever growing database of amazing singles, each one of whom is screened prior to being accepted, reaching out to my extended professional network, attending singles events and more. 8
My remit is to find that one special person with whom my client can fall in love. I’m in the business of bringing amazing single people together for real love and lasting happiness. WHO HIRES A MATCHMAKER? Many busy, successful professionals hire matchmakers. Some hire a matchmaker because they’re too busy to do the searching themselves, or don’t like online dating sites. The reasons for hiring a matchmaker are as varied as the clients themselves. A bespoke matchmaker like myself takes away all of the hard work. With me, there’s no more guessing whether someone likes you or not, no more time consuming searching and no more wasted money on dates with singles you just aren’t compatible with. That’s just a few of the reasons you should think about hiring a bespoke matchmaker. FREE REGISTRATION – WHAT DOES IT MEAN? Most matchmakers offer two options - Free Registration (Matches) and Paid Membership (Clients). Free registration is how matchmakers build their database of eligible single matches for their paying clients. If you’re smart, attractive and single (male or female) and would like the chance to be matched with one of my clients consider registering on the FREE database. Free Registration with a certified matchmaker is a great way for you to find love! It’s not guaranteed, but it’s a great place to start of you aren’t sure if you want to go ahead and hire a matchmaker yourself. Ready to register? Visit janerapin.com/singlesregister to take the next step. If you’re ready to hire a matchmaker and would like to schedule an appointment to discuss how bespoke matchmaking can help you contact me directly at love@janerapin.com

Luv Bug Marvin HuMes
Marvin HuMes, tHe Multi-talented ex MeMber of worldwide pop sensation Jls, Has turned His Musical talents to different avenues in tHe past few years.
He’s a DJ, Producer, he has been a judge on the Voice and is also a presenter on Capital Radio. But it’s his latest project LuvBug, which he his is the DJ producer of, that is making the biggest waves, and is sending the name Marvin Humes worldwide once again. Over the past 18 months the dance act –LuvBug, have been building up a loyal fan base, including a DJ residency at the iconic Pacha & Café Mambo in Ibiza, DJing with Diplo and David Guetta in Las Vegas, plus UK festivals including Wireless and the dance stage at V Festival, and #Hashtag Friday’s at Level in Liverpool. With two top 20 singles already LuvBug are set for a massive 2016. Our editor Joy Lewis chatted to Marvin about LuvBug’s latest release and if he will be following the Voice over to ITV.
10
In your latest solo project you have taken to producing, with the LuvBug’s Best is Yet to Come being released on 15th April, LuvBug is already a success with last year’s two top 20 hits, does this make you more relaxed about releasing new singles? Nope not any more really. In the past when I was with JLS, there was lot of pressure on chart success, where we were and where we would be next. But the music industry has changed to so much, even in the last few years. For me and LuvBug it’s more about having tunes on the market that are being played regularly in the clubs – club success is the music success that we are looking for now. Our last releases did well and hopefully the latest release Best is Yet to Come will do the same. What made you set up LuvBug? I set up luvbug because I was djig loads, plus I did always have it in the back of my mind even when I was part of JLS. You have working with a few other big names in the music industry with LuvBug, household names like JayK and Craig David being only a few – is this still a solo project or a collaboration with people. Yes LuvBug is my baby, my thing, all mine! I have worked with a few others on this, but this is my own project.
Do you find it easier working by yourself or harder without the comfort of bandmates around you? This way it’s easier, because I only have myself to please, I am the boss of my own projects. But that doesn’t necessarily make it easier, on the flip side you have got to be impartial which is hard, when you have working on a project and you have put everything into it, it’s quite difficult to stand back and criticize it - but it’s what you have to do to make it right. Can you tell me about the new single, Best is Yet to Come? I was inspired by my time in Ibiza last summer. I was listening to the bigger tunes and I wanted to create something more European that would appeal to all the islands and get played in all the clubs in Europe this summer. How do you fit a UK tour around being on Capital FM radio in Manchester? I have a studio in central London that I can go to – I’m used to working every day, and when I stopped working with JLS I had a thirst to work as hard if not harder. I was used to working all day and all night, I already had it in me and I had a really strong urge to continue working within music, and making a success. Music is my no1 passion I love getting up and working within and around it, I can’t see that changing. Mind you, you never know. I ten years’ time everything could be different and I might have other projects on the go. Can’t see me ever releasing a cook book though, I think I will always be in music in some way. But like I said, you never know. Other than a very busy summer, what does the rest of 2016 hold, are you going to follow the Voice to ITV perhaps? Absolutely I would, yes. I loved working on the Voice for 3 years and I loved working with Emma Willis. Of course conversations are happening, we are in talks but nothing concrete yet. But we are in talks, I can say that. 11

Marc Kenny chat’s to our editor Joy Lewis about his hit song, “What’s it Like in Liverpool” and the global response it has achieved.
marc kenny S T A CH
Hi Marc, “What’s it Like in Liverpool” has had a phenomenal response, obviously it’s about our great city - what’s the story behind it? I was gigging in China for 3 months & was away for my girlfriend’s birthday as well as Valentine’s Day. I couldn’t really send her flowers or chocolate so I wrote & recorded her the song, then emailed it to her on her birthday. The track has now been picked up by Liverpool Tourism & Marketing, being used to promote Liverpool all over the world so I’m particularly proud of that! You launched the single over in the states - where did you launch it over there and how did this come about? I launched it in Carraghers Bar in New York. It actually came about from a “tongue in cheek” tweet to Jamie Carragher asking if he’d like me to launch the single in his venue in NYC. A few hours later it was picked up by the management & I’ve been friends with them since. I’ve heard that it’s been picked up by a TV producer in America for a TV show over there? As soon as the track was released, I had various different people contact me about different projects & ideas. One of the messages was from a film maker called Phil Bimpson who has visited all 9 Liverpool’s around the world & made a documentary of it. It’s now due to go on a US cable network & they needed theme music for it. This documentary has been in the making for the last 6 years, so my song just seemed to come along at the right time & capture what it was all about. It’s festival season - are you performing at any here and abroad? if so which ones Yes I have a load of festivals lined up over the summer, including a couple of big ones - the first being ‘We Luv Festival’ at Aintree Saturday 28th May. I’m also doing quite a bit abroad - I’m heading to Germany & Switzerland in June then I’ve a return to New York in September, followed by Philadelphia & Hershey. For all news Marc Kenny, do you have a twitter or Facebook where people can follow you and find out where you gigs are? Yes I do the whole social media thing! You can find further info, gigs & social media links on my website www.marckenny. co.uk & my CD single “What’s it like in Liverpool?” can be ordered direct from www.whatsitlikeinliverpool.com as well as all digital download sites. 16

Wedding Trends e creat You can
Whether you’re looking to have a ‘green wedding’, love the shabby chic trend or simply wanting to save the pennies, a lick of paint and some creative thought can go a long way in creating the perfect wedding. Upcycling expert, editor of All Round Creative Junkie and North East Blogger of the Year Cheryl Lumley shares her tips for adding that extra sparkle to a wedding without breaking the bank. Weddings have changed. We’re no longer constrained by hotel function rooms, roast chicken dinners and traditional wedding planners anymore. We want personal touches that show off our personalities: we want vintage tea parties, rustic country settings, to wear converse with our wedding dresses and to dance in barns with bunting and hay bale seats. We are creating whole weekend events – mini festivals, almost. The traditional wedding rule book has gone and we now do whatever we want, hooray! While everyone wants their wedding to be amazing, we also don’t want to spend our life savings on just one weekend, no matter how magical. A few key trends for 2016 can be easily recreated on a budget with a little forward planning and creativity. A bit of clever upcycling and crafting can create a completely personal theme and save a lot of money in the process – money you can spend on a well-deserved honeymoon instead. Gold Metallics, glitter and gold are opulent, sparkly and perfect for a wedding. A great way to add a touch of gold is through table decorations. Rather than ending up with 10 identical vases or floral centre pieces you’re stuck with afterwards, start early and collect jam jars and tins to upcycle into quirky 22
on
wn Y o ur o
centre pieces. Use Rust-Oleum Metallic Spray Paint in Pure Gold or Aged Copper to turn empty jars into mini vases. You’ll need a couple of coats of paint then once dry you can decorate with ribbons, jute, buttons and even wool to tie in your colour scheme. To add personalised monograms, mix your jars with the cardboard initials you can find in craft shops (or cut them out yourself from card), dip them in glitter and you’ve got your own sparkly scheme for a fraction of the cost. Seating plans and table numbers With a little bit of planning you can create quirky matching or mismatched table numbers really easily with a few paint techniques. Scour charity shops or second hand shops for out-ofdate frames and using textured paint, such as Rust-Oleum Furniture Paint in either Chalky Finish or Gloss paint each of the frames in your own colour scheme. You don’t need to prime them, just paint all the frames in either the same shade or coordinating colours. Make your own bunting Rustic weddings outdoors and in barns are really on trend at the moment and hessian (or burlap) is a big feature of this style. You can buy hessian by the metre from craft stores or haberdasheries, or you could even upcycle old coffee sacks. Using a cardboard template cut out the bunting flags then, using a brush, stencil and a pot of Rust-Oleum Satin Furniture Paint, stencil on initials to create your very own monogrammed bunting. You can also go for hearts, stars or anything you feel would tie in your theme.

THE WARDROBE BOUTIQUE…….. ………SOUTHPORT’S HIDDEN GEM The Wardrobe Boutique offers a creative, imaginative and distinctive fashion, jewellery and accessories. “For women seeking all things different in life….” Joy Lewis chats to entrepreneur owner Denise Wilkinson What was the inspiration behind opening The Wardrobe Boutique? Four years ago I was made redundant. Having always worked for other people I knew I had lots of ambition and passion but wanted to direct it into something of my own.I have always loved fashion and had a flair for putting outfits together on a budget but still managing to turn heads. Six months later The Wardrobe Boutique was born! Situated just out of Southport town centre, in a corner position with FREE parking for customers. Who is this market aimed at? There was a massive gap in the market for ‘middle-aged women’, anyone from 30 – 70, no longer wanting to compete with size zero ‘yummy mummies’ or ready to be OAP’s either. It’s great that you stock clothes that are not designed with size zero bodies in mind, what sizes are available? My range is sized from 8 to 20 plus in some designs and very competitively priced. Everything is handpicked by myself with customer requests always in mind, to celebrate and accentuate the proportions of all sizes and ages.
28
It must be great to dress a customer and see them leaving with more confidence? It’s so satisfying when someone walks in feeling like a wallflower uncertain of her identity, then leaves, often after a couple of hours of personal dressing feeling like a million dollars! You are taking part in Manchester Fashion Week this month? Yes I’m really looking forward to it. We pride ourselves in asking our customers to take part in our Fashion Shows to reflect the various sizes and ages of the typical ‘woman next door’.

In 2015 at New York Fashion Week David & Phillipe Blond were inspired by Egyptian burial practices as well as sand and the pyramids that instantly come to mind when you mention Egypt. This theme was portrayed through adding gold crystals, sequins and embroidered feathers to the garments. Their modern twist on the Egyptian theme was designed with the disco era in mind for a contemporary feel.

This collection is a high fashion handmade ecology with surroundings of lush green lawns, lily ponds and blue skies. However when I look at this collection, my vision is a different perception. I see cultural influences through gold embellishment, neutral lightweight draped fabrics with gathered trimmings, Egyptian inspired eye make-up and diamond encrusted scarab beetle earrings. Others may see a different theme once again or be able to relate a collection to a life event, this to me is a beautiful matter as it shows that fashion holds no boundaries.
Givenchy fall 2016 at Paris Fashion Week offers us Egyptian art & culture prints with a 1970’s twist. This collection includes beautifully tailored officer coats, blouson sleeve dresses, bomber jackets with shimmery trims and metallic details. Mythological iconic prints such as the Eye of Horus are just one of the symbols which occurred throughout the collection as a main element. Their 1970’s touch was noticeable on the inspired knee length chunky boots reimagined in python and strips. walk lIke an egyptIan tHIs upcomIng wInter’
Jennifer ellison set up her fame academy so young adults could follow their dreams and train for a career in show business, without having to move all the way to london to do it.
Our editor Joy Lewis chatted to Jennifer Ellison about the inspiration to setting up this college and the summer school. Can you tell me about the college? It’s a state of the art dance school for 16 -19 year olds. It provides full time, elite musical and theatre training for both boys and girls who are wish to pursue a future career within performing arts industry. We have some of the best teachers here in the country too, it’s a great and inspiring place to be. What made you want to open the school? It has always been my dream to create something in Liverpool that competes with the likes of the London colleges. People want to, and need to train but not
necessarily leave home to do it – and neither should they. I can’t tell you how many dancers I have spoken to that have told me that they wished that something like this school was available when they were training. I’m just pleased that it’s available now, and it’s doing well, this is what I have always wanted. Do you have a summer school? Yes we do, and anyone can sign up for a week long summer dance camp we have here. Kids can come along, take part and dance with me and some of the other girls here, we offer places for boys and girls from 2 ½ -25, it’s great and open to everybody. I heard that the school has been involved somehow with Britain’s got talent Ahh, well I can’t say too much, or anything at all about the specifics of that really. We are bound by contract, but what I can say is that it’s very good, and that we have done well. Very well indeed. So watch this space, because as soon as I can say more, I will be! For more information on how you can get involved and what classes are available for summer school and beyond visit, www.jenniferellisonfameacademy.com

First things first, SKINCARE! If you don’t prep your skin before a make-up application, the make-up won’t sit correctly and stay on throughout the day as well as it should. I used the relive serum from Aeos, Charlotte Tilbury magic cream and primed Maddie’s skin with MAC Cosmetics skin base visage. I then added a small amount of Becca Cosmetics’ skin perfector cream which acts as a great dewy/highlighted look to the skin under make-up.
To finish off the festival make-up look, silver sequins were applied to Maddie’s skin and added a pink lip using MAC Cosmetics lip liner in “Hip N Happy” & Delilah Cosmetics lipstick in “Brink”.
For the base, I used Clarins instant concealer under Maddie’s eyes to brighten them up and Urban Decay’s naked skin foundation. I set the foundation using Charlotte Tilbury’s flawless finish powder - this is KEY to help the make-up stay on longer and look flawless! To add a flush of colour to the cheeks i used Delilah Cosmetics blusher in “Clementine” with an over load application of Gerard Cosmetics highlighter in “Marlyn”, MAC Cosmetics highlighter in “Soft & Gentle” & NARS multiple stickhighlighter in “Copcabana”. I placed the highlighters on the brow bone, cupids bow, cheek bone and on the temples.

To prime the eye lids I used Clarins Ombre iridescent, then used Urban Decay eyeshadow in “Cosmic”, Urban Decay Gwen Stefani palette in “Harajuku” & Urban Decay electric palette in “Savage”. SPARKLE TIME! To act as a base for the MAC Cosmetics pigment in “3D Glitter”, I used Urban Decay eyeliner heavy metal eyeliner in “Air Guitar”. To finish off the eyes, Ardell lashes in “Demi Wispies”.
LUSH SPA: Tales of Bath Strip away everything, literally at this mind and body 75 minute treatment. Starting with a neck and shoulder massage to wind down, then undress and slip into a warm and private mineral bath whilst listening to tales of bath inspired by the city of Bath’s healing waters aids relaxation and eases muscles. After the bath lay on the bed for a full deep body massage to target tension. The thought of being naked was terrifying but the room was locked and private so actually it was very enlightening to experience. Combined with the massage before and afterwards it was a wonderful way to spend a morning. My skin glowed, my mind sparkled and I felt alive and ready to take on the world!

KIM LEE, the international Model and DJ is one half of the duo KimKat who are currently taking the DJ world by storm. Our editor Joy Lewis chats to Kim Lee herself in an exclusive interview.
IT’S TOUGH BEING A FEMALE IN A MALE DOMINATED INDUSTRY
Follow Kim lee on https://twitter.com/OfficialKimlee https://t.co/XzFHRla2T4 Hello Kim Lee, what is it like being one half of a famous DJing duo? It’s fun, but anyone who is in a group or band will tell u sometimes it’s not easy because one person might have one vision and the other might wanna do something else. But we’re friends before anything and we always make it work in the end. What’s it like being a female act in a male dominated industry, when you are interviewed your looks and what you are wearing is always commented on, does this bother you? It’s tough being a female in a male dominated industry but I like the challenge. It feels like we’re always gonna be doubted no matter how talented or how hard u work. But this is what I say all the time. Just don’t worry about that and focus on your work. People are always going to talk. So it doesn’t bother me at all. What type of tunes are you playing at the moment? We play open format but mostly house and hiphop 34
Are you doing any festivals this year? And if so which ones? Yes, we’re at Ultra Korea this year. I’m super excited cause I’ll get to see my friends there like Martin Garrix and a bunch of other people. Ultra Korea’s energy is amazing, I mean amazing!!! They just love to party. We have seen you on a lot of magazines and you have been making news in the British papers do you plan to come to the UK and crack the DJ and fashion industry over here? Yes! I love the UK! They been showing me so much love thanks to Daily star and my management The Blu Media who have been working there butt off for me. I’m definitely going to come there soon and I really want to start doing TV stuff there because it’s a great market and plus I have many fans and friends there too What do we expect from you and kimkat in 2016? We’re working on some awesome stuff right now but let’s keep it quiet for now but all I can say is you will definitely hear more about KimKat.

Lifestyle meat free may
Friends of the Earth MEAT FREE advance notice MAY 2OI5 People across the UK are being urged to give up meat this May to boost their health and help the planet. Meat Free May 2015, 2016 organised by environmental charity Friends of the Earth, is calling on people to change their diets for a month, with the aim of encouraging them to move on to lower and better meat diets more permanently. Most people eat meat twice a day without even thinking about it. But the amount of meat and fish we feast on is damaging our planet and our health. •
•
Livestock production makes up 14.5% of the total global greenhouse gas emissions and drives deforestation. Our taste for fish is also stripping the seas: over 70% of the world’s fish stocks are over or fully exploited. Lower-meat diets in the UK could prevent 45,000 early deaths each year, and save the NHS over £1.2 billion annually.
Cutting down on meat and fish can seem daunting, so Friends of the Earth is providing free packs, crammed with information and tips, along with delicious meat-free recipes. Commenting on Meat Free May, Fran Graham, Food Campaigner at Friends of the 38
FOR A HEALTHIER LIFE AND HEALTHIER PLANET Earth said: “Our appetite for meat and fish is having an enormous impact on our health - and the health of the planet.“
“Meat Free May is a great opportunity for people to try out a wide range of delicious meat-free recipes for a whole month – and to hopefully think about eating less and better quality meat in future.” Hanya Gordon from Leicester, who took part in Meat Free May last year, said: “Our diets have serious consequences for our heath and the health of the planet, so I was delighted to sign up to Meat Free May last year. Going Meat Free was not at all difficult with so many tasty meat-free products available." Thank you to players of People’s Postcode Lottery for supporting a number of Friends of the Earth’s campaigns, including Meat Free May.

faultless night in istanbul It is rare that I go for a meal and can’t find fault with the evening. I was accompanied by my husband and 6 children, my colleague Maxine, her husband and their baby as we celebrated my daughter’s birthday. I was welcomed by the owner Ilona who was also rushing around waiting on tables as well. She is one hardworking businesswoman. The table was set for a party, they had gone the extra mile and put up birthday banners along the wall and a homemade chocolate cake was presented for dessert. This a family friendly restaurant where no request is ignored to ensure your visit is enjoyable. The food is

delicious, the nibbles exquisite and has certainly been added to my list of favourites. Please go and try it out, you won’t be disappointed..

PETEPRICE ‘LATE NIGHT CITY’ SUNDAY - THURSDAY 10PM TO 1AM RADIO CITY 2 & RADIO CITY TALK
LIVERPOOL’S BIGGEST STAR. PETE PRICE....
Introduced Into 'The Radio Academy Hall of Fame' 2014
As you know, I’m on the radio 5 nights a week from 10pm to 1am on Radio City 2 & Radio City Talk. The last hour of the programme is ‘The Peaceful Hour’. This is where we play the most classic songs and mention your messages to your loved ones. Do you realise that The Peaceful Hour has been going around 40 years? And I was one of the first hosts 30 years ago. Where has that time gone? So, if you need to celebrate a birthday, anniversary etc why buy a card when you can text my programme and get a mention? 1) Frank Sinatra Junior – Sadly the man has recently just passed away – I was very privileged to interview him. Throughout the interview I felt I was in the presence of his father, it was uncanny. Live in concert he was amazing, which included him telling the story of his dad’s life. It was a privilege knowing him. 2) Mrs Rooney – Every year I go and have a drink with Colleen in her box at the Grand National. I love and respect her, especially this year as she defended the ladies of Merseyside after the negative press in certain national newspapers. Good on you Colleen! My word, aren’t the kids growing up? 3) Cilla Statues – I was very honoured to see the first miniature ideas of the Cilla Statue. I am thrilled to say that I put Emma Rodgers forward for the commission. She in turn has 44
brought Andrew Edwards in to collaborate on the project. This amazing man is responsible for The Beatles statue down at the Pier Head, which has got to be seen! It will be interesting to see how Cillas Statue in Matthew Street finishes up. 4) Judy and Peter – Congratulations to Crabbies you are going to be a hard act to follow! Thank you for putting the glamour back into the Grand National. Here’s a picture of me with Judy Halewood the owner of Crabbies and Peter Eaton the Deputy Chairman of Halewood International. 5) Eastenders – Shona McGarty who plays Whitney was at a function with me recently. What a fun lady! 6) James Hill & Natasha Hamilton – They were both in the Celebrity Big Brother house together and they popped in to see me one night after James had finished his panto. What a nice guy and he certainly has his head screwed on! I don’t have to say anything about Natasha ‘cos I already love her!
Jamie Carragher’s 23 Foundation The 23 Foundations main aim is to help children, not only on Merseyside but all over the world on every continent, who are living with cancer, autism and other illnesses and disabilities. We do this by asking Liverpool Football Club’s incredible supporters to buy signed memorabilia from www.jamiecarragher.org so we can help as many children as possible. On the site there are things to buy from as little at £2 right up to £350, so there is something for every budget. As they say every little helps, and this is certainly true for the 23 Foundation. We are currently supporting Food Bank projects, helping local hospitals to fund equipment for new wards, supporting families that have children with severe life threatening diseases. This is Jamie Carragher’s Foundation, so naturally we are doing a lot of work with Soccer Schools too. In fact we are helping thousands of children kids in England, Norway, Ireland with Soccer Schools programmes. These schools are instrumental in getting kids off the streets, playing sports,
keeping fit, playing in team sports and promoting a winning mentality and self-improvement. To find out more about the 23 Foundation and the work that we do visit www.jamiecarragher.org For the Best Liverpool Football Club Sporting Memorabilia Past and Present Our three main signed shirts are, Carragher, Gerrard and Alonso honours shirts with a picture of each. If you are looking for a gift for a Liverpool FC fan, it couldn’t get any better than one of these shirts. For the best man, father of the bride, wedding anniversary or birthday, the gift of a signed football shirt from one of the clubs heroes would absolutely perfect. Hurry while stocks last, these shirts are very popular, visit www.jamiecarragher. org or email mike@jamiecarragher.org – to buy the dream gift for any Liverpool FC fan

A Club At the heArt of its Community EvErtonians havE EndorsEd EvErton as a club at thE hEart of its community in thE 2016 PrEmiEr lEaguE fan survEy
Everton excelled for Community Engagement in the independent questionnaire, which is commissioned annually by the Premier League and involves fans of all of the top-flight clubs. Notably, 95% of all Everton fans surveyed believe the Club makes a significant contribution to the local community - with 90% of supporters rating community engagement important to the culture and philosophy of the Club. Indeed, the survey results deliver almost unanimous backing from fans for Everton’s community engagement and the way in which that activity is communicated. The survey demonstrates that community is at the core of what being a club means to Evertonians and that the approach the Club takes in engaging with fans is valued and supported. Overall, Everton rated 22 percentage points higher than the Premier League average for all questions relating to community engagement. Over successive seasons Everton has enjoyed impressive results from the Premier League Fan Survey, with the Blues being recognised again in a number of key areas for 2016. Everton’s stewards are rated as the best in the league for the seventh consecutive season, while the telephone customer service team and ticket office assistants are also ranked number one. Ticket purchasing is also rated among the best in the league, with Everton coming top among fans for phone purchasing, online sales and Season Ticket information. Everton achieved top place in six of the 34 categories - ranking in the top five for an impressive 15 categories. The Club also ranked above the Premier League average in every category relating to communication, with email, the official website and the communication of fixture changes all delivering notably impressive results. 48
Everton’s Chief Executive, Robert Elstone, said: “No one expects more of us than ourselves. Every day we embrace the high bar and challenge set by nil satis nisi optimum. Recent Premier League Fan Survey results show some really positive trends with high scores, indeed top marks in many areas where our staff engage with our fans. “Receiving that endorsement of our efforts to always put our fans first, to embrace and support our community is really pleasing. Our challenge is to build on this good work and be the best we possibly can be in every aspect of our Club. There’s a strong commitment from everyone at Everton to do just that. The survey also identifies the things we have to work harder on. Our appetite for that work is undiminished. Our aim continues to be to make all Evertonians proud of the Club they support with such passion and unconditional loyalty. “On behalf of the Board and Executive team, I would like to thank all staff – but with special praise for the Everton in the Community team – for all their efforts in retaining the Club’s position at or near the top of the Premier League listings. Everyone connected to the Club acknowledges the talent, commitment and hard work that goes into such impressive and consistent feedback from our fans.”

GOING TO THE HAIRDRESSER IS A PLEASURE
For some, going to the hairdresser is as painful as a trip to the dentist but award winning Liverpool Stylist Andrew Joseph Manion, ensures a visit to his salon is as pleasurable as a spa treatment. Andrew Joseph Manion is styling his way to the top of his profession with a string of shows already under his belt and wants to encourage new clients, especially those who have previously had bad experiences as he is confident he can restore their confidence in going to the hairdresser. He says, “For starters if someone is terrified of the hairdressers I would start with a cup of tea and a head massage and then just a blow-dry, without actually taking the scissors to
them. It’s all about building up trust and I need my clients to know they can trust me 100%” In just two years of setting up Andrew Joseph Manion in Old Swann, the young hairstylist has headed the creative style team at both Liverpool and Manchester Fashion Weeks, won the coveted Best Creative Hair Stylist at the Fashion & Beauty Awards 2015. Most recently he was a finalist as Best Independent Hair Stylist at the Liverpool Lifestyle Awards in March 2016 in which 8500 people voted. He was also picked from 11,000 colourists to become a finalist in the L’Oreal Men’s Colour Trophy 2016, and went down to London for the trials.

From Legendary Pictures and Universal Pictures comes Warcraft, an epic adventure of world-colliding conflict based on Blizzard Entertainment’s global phenomenon. The peaceful realm of Azeroth stands on the brink of war as its civilization faces a fearsome race of invaders: Orc warriors fleeing their dying home to colonize another. As a portal opens to connect the two worlds, one army faces destruction and the other faces extinction. From opposing sides, two heroes are set on a collision course that will decide the fate of their family, their people and their home. So begins a spectacular saga of power and sacrifice in which war has many faces, and everyone fights for something. Directed by Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code) and written by Charles Leavitt and Jones, the film starring Travis Fimmel, Paula Patton, Ben Foster, Dominic Cooper, Toby Kebbell, Ben Schnetzer, Rob Kazinsky and Daniel Wu is a Legendary Pictures, Blizzard Entertainment and Atlas Entertainment production. The producers are Charles Roven, Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni, Alex Gartner and Stuart Fenegan. Jillian Share, Brent O’Connor, Michael Morhaime and Paul Sams serve as executive producers. Rob Pardo, Chris Metzen, Nick Carpenter and Rebecca Steel Roven co-produce. Warcraft will be released by Universal Pictures.

The Man Who InvenTed Cool Don Cheadle’s new Miles Davis biopic ‘Miles Ahead’ is a genuine labour of love. Predictably, for someone who personified ‘cool’, Miles wasn’t the warmest of people. But then neither were many of history’s other truly great creative geniuses. Miles, who would have turned ninety this month, was a legendary musician, band-leader and composer whose influence upon subsequent musical icons as diverse as Pink Floyd and Prince is unparalleled. Not bad for a trumpet player. So where do you start among his mind and trumpet-blowing 127 albums, 59 singles and 17 box sets if you want to get your Miles on? The obvious answer is 1959’s historic ‘Kind Of Blue’. The biggest selling jazz album of all time, said to single-handedly represent a staggering forty percent of all the jazz compact discs ever sold. This flawless collection of five stunningly beautiful, improvised tracks, recorded live during two days in March and April 1959 without any previous rehearsal or written score, are thought by many people, including me and Jimi Hendrix, to be the best album that anybody has ever made. Rolling Stone magazine’s army of journalists collectively thought that it was only the twelfth best album of all time in their 1999 poll of the century, but what do they know? ... I’ll stick with Jimi, thanks, whose tragic death prevented a planned recording session with Miles. Instead of recording in New York with him on my fifth birthday, October 1st 1970, Miles was in Washington comforting the girlfriend that they shared at Jimi’s funeral. Davis’s incredible life and career are superbly documented in his own uniquely forthright way via the autobiography ‘Miles’, written with poet Quincy Troupe just a couple of years before he died in 1991. Other albums that I’d recommend are - Round About Midnight, Sketches Of Spain, On The Corner, Bitches Brew, Some Day My Prince Will Come, Porgy And Bess, In A Silent Way and two soundtracks; The Hot Spot and an exquisite album that he made in France for Louis Malle’s eponymous film which inspired his approach to making ‘Kind Of Blue’ called ‘Ascenseur ,Pour L’Echafaud’.

The besT parTies during MiaMi Music Miami has long been the ultimate spring break destination for party-goers from all over the world, and having now experienced the electric atmosphere and the legendary fun and games, it’s easy to see why. I’m sure I’m not alone in feeling like some very magical memories were made during MMW 2016, so here are the best places to party should you be lucky enough to come in March 2017. Where & When: Pool party @SoBeCongress Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th March Why: Words could never quite do justice to the exceptional crowd and atmosphere experienced at the Congress. The staff are super friendly and genuinely just want you to have fun; so much so that I myself may have over-indulged a little myself on the delicious drinks… The music is contagious and the ocean view is simply stunning. If you head to Miami at any time, there are often pool parties going on at the Congress, and I can’t recommend visiting enough; you will not be disappointed, and will make some friends for life! Prepare yourself for some awesome music from Breakbeat to Hip-hop depending on the event. I had so much fun here I came back the next day with many of my new crew. If I could live here forever I totally would… Who: David of Lexani, DJ ICEY, DogEatDog records, @Djb_251, dancer @IsisOlmos, Simon Osborne. Where & When: Klingandes Playground Pool Party @DelanoSoBe, Friday 18th March Why: The Delano is an elegant venue with an extravagant, beautiful and friendly crowd. Expect 62
plenty of bottles to be poppin’ and some interesting people watching. I was lucky enough to quickly be adopted by Heine & Co. of Scandenavia’s biggest beach party, Palmesus, and had a fabulous day filled with laughter (and alcohol) and sampled some delicious Delano cocktails and shisha by Bazookah Bar. Who: DJ @JosefBamba, DiskoLab, Guy Gerber, Saggy of @AllorVaporizers, & Mike of BeachMonkey Where & when: @FiftyMiami Ultra lounge, Friday 18th March Why: This fabulous pool party was held to celebrate 25 years of Nervous Records. The panoramic views of the financial district below are quite breathtaking, and the crowd were a cool blend of anything goes. Who: Mike of ris, Carl Nervous, BoCraig, Roger Sanchez, Marcel Nothdurft As each event averages around a $40 entrance fee, it actually works out more cost effective to buy a pass for the week from https://miamimusicweek. com if you plan on attending events daily. I’m genuinely sad Miami Music Week is over, but the party never stops in Miami… See you next year!

CRAIG PHILLIPS DIY Hello Lifestyle Readers, Though spring has finally arrived, I still had time to fit in some final skiing of the season in France which should keep me going until next winter! As I mentioned last month, I very much enjoyed attending the Ideal Home Show, a fortnight-long festival of everything household which took place at the Olympia in London. In front of a packed audience, I carried out a number of demonstrations in the Supertheatre showing people how to perform a number of DIY tasks, including how to replace broken tiles and bleed a radiator. I also took to the product demonstration stand on behalf of Wagner Spraytech showing off a variety of tools, which I also do on Ideal World on a regular basis. On top of all this, I have been preparing for the build of my dream home which you may remember I’ve mentioned several times in the past. Unfortunately, getting planning permission is proving to be a long and painstaking process which is very frustrating but I just have to be in the best position I can when I finally get the green light! If you’re looking to do some spring DIYing on top of your spring cleaning, I’ve included my usual monthly tip to give you a helping hand! All the best,

Repairing holes and cracks before painting or decorating Materials required: • Ready mixed filler • Tube of acrylic filler “water based” • 18V power silicon gun, • Scraper • Sander and sanding pads • 18V silicon gun Painting over holes and cracks or just covering them with heavy wallpaper could be a big mistake! Regrets like this can easily be avoided by getting an old screwdriver or paint scraper and scraping out the fine cracks deeper. This will allow you to get more filler into the crack and help key to the plaster work. You can buy ready mixed filler or filler in a powdered form and mix yourself. Make sure to read the manufacturer’s instruction for water ratio. Using your scraper, apply the filler over the holes pressing it hard to avoid any air being trapped behind the filler. As for corner cracks and where the wall meets the ceiling, again these can be racked out. Applying the filler here can be very tricky using a scraper so I would recommend using an 18V silicon gun to apply the filler which will make the task quicker and easier. Once the filler is dry, start to sand using the sander, gently rotating in small circle actions until smooth. Now you’re ready to start to painting over the repaired areas. Using your wet finger, gently run it over the filler until smooth. Leave to dry before painting. Cut the silicon gun end nozzle down at a 45 degree angle so you can press it in close to the adjoining corner. Remember preparation is the key to everything!

the last word It’s May and who’s feelIng Marvellous? Statistically speaking dying in a road accident (1 in 8,000) is far more common than dying in a terrorist attache (1 in 25 million). You are just as likely to be killed by the bullets of ISIS as you are to be killed by unstable televisions and furniture falling on you. Does this give you the urge to flee your house? Of course it doesn’t. Live your life. Love. Travel, Laugh. Ironically, don’t believe everything you read in the newspapers, they are a business designed to sell copies. scaremongering is part of their policy, and terrorists are not lurking behind every bush as they would like you to think. I do not want my children growing up in fear. Stay stylish

We’re off on a city break to Amsterdam, we’ll be
taking the metro and visiting all the hot tourist spots. As I write this the today’s newspaper’s headlines scream of ISS attacks on European beaches through the summer. What are we all to do? Are we to cancel our holidays and stay at home? Why do we only think of death and disaster when we’re planning our trips? Did you know you are 14 times more likely to die in the bathtub than in a terrorist attack? Does that make you feel better? Or will you start taking showers instead from now on? You have twice the chances of becoming an astronaut than flying in a plane doomed to crash due to a terrorist plot. 66

DARREN VISION A penny doubled
Question - If you were offered 1 million pounds today or 1p doubled every day for a month, which would you take? When I ask the question in schools nearly all the children want the money today, don’t worry about tomorrow. It’s the same when I ask adults to be honest. We want it now, we want everything now, we see advertisements daily to “buy now pay later”, “it’s only x pounds per month”. Most of us haven’t learnt the concept of delayed gratification, wait until you can pay, wait until you have the money or have positively budgeted for it. Again let’s look at the scenario, 1 million pounds today or 1p doubled every day for a month. This is the outcome and some of the calculations it turned out like this: Day 1: £1p Day 15: £163.84 Day 25: £167,772.16 Day 30: £5,368,709.12 It takes a level of maturity and understanding around compound interest to truly understand the power of this scenario. It works the opposite with our mortgages, we pay interest on our interest, it’s no wonder the banks make such fortunes. So here are some easy ways to get a grip of your finances
1. Know the truth. What is your true income expenditure? I have a friend who won’t even open the mail from the bank as she doesn’t want to know. How on earth could you improve your financial position if you don’t know your starting point? 2. You now have 2 choices, reduce expenditure or increase your income. I know this is obvious, but I can’t tell you how many people complain about their situation but don’t address it. 3. Create a realistic plan. Pay off anything with a high interest rate. Store cards, Credit cards etc. 4. Build towards saving 10% of your income as part of your plan. This will help you feel good about your finances and also reduce stress when things need fixing, car, home etc. Think penny a day doubling. If your OUTGOINGS exceed your INCOME then your UPKEEP will be your DOWNFALL. Take advice from people who can truly help you change your current situation.
