Hello

November I am a positive person, I always see the good in every situation but lately I was disappointed by events.

I put myself out of comfort zone and let my guard down. I made myself vulnerable in anticipation of something I believe could be beneficial to me.

But it wasn’t. I don’t cope with negative emotions well and for a few days my confidence was crushed. But as ever the optimist, I refused to let it keep me down. Instead I turned the experience to my advantage as it made me reevaluate my goals.

The saying goes that size of your success is measured by the strength of your desire and how you handle disappointment along the way. I am super focused and ready for greater opportunities now and instead of lowering my standards from a major disappointment, in a turn out of events, I am actually raising my standards. For all wellbeing advice follow our columnists inside, they will keep you on your true path to discovery and happiness but it starts from within. We’ve just returned from our bi annual retreat in Cyprus and as the new year approaches we’re reflecting on our dreams and aspirations. Talking of which, many people who are reaching for theirs will be honoured at the first Manchester Lifestyle Awards this month. And our flagship event, the Liverpool Lifestyle Awards is still accepting nominations for those seeking recognition and reward for all their hard work. Awards aren’t just an excuse for a great party, they’re an endorsement of your business success, excellent PR and puts you one step ahead of your competition. Stay successful,

WINTER WONDERLAND SET TO RETURN TO MANCHESTER THIS CHRISTMAS The UK’s biggest Christmas indoor Winter Wonderland, is set to return to Manchester on 6th December.

F

ollowing last year’s hugely successful event which saw over 85,000 people visit the Christmas festivities, Santa’s little helpers have worked with the event organisers to launch this year’s Winter Wonderland, promising it to be the best yet! Winter Wonderland 2019 will see five amazing festive attractions including: A huge real ice rink, a fabulous Christmas circus, an incredible panto, a vast indoor funfair and of course, Santa Claus. As well as all these attractions there will be plenty of food and drink available, catering for a wide range of requirements including vegan, vegetarian, gluten and lactose free options. Refreshments will also be available to get visitors into the festive spirit.

8

For parents of young children, there will be plenty of space to park any prams as well as a quiet breastfeeding area and baby changing facilities throughout the venue.

Winter Funland event director, Andy Windmill, said: “Last years event was a phenomenal success and this year promises to be bigger, brighter and full of even more festive fun. We have pulled out all of the stops to ease queues for Santa, quicker service for food and of course – brought in even more exciting funfair rides” The organisers have also created an autism-friendly sensory experience as part of the Winter Funland which will be available exclusively for autistic children and their family to enjoy on Monday 9th December. The Winter Funland will be closed to the general public and transformed making it a welcoming and exciting space for young people affected by autism. Not only will there will be fewer crowds around, but the volume of the attractions will be lowered, the lighting and flickering lights will be reduced and a special space to chill out if any aspect gets too

overwhelming will also be available. Last year’s event gave over £100,000 worth of tickets to local charities & underprivileged families and promise to do the same again in 2019! Winter Funland is taking place at EventCity, opposite intu Trafford Centre and there are over 3,000 free car parking spaces. The doors will officially open to the public on 6th December and will remain open until 5th January 2020 with tickets available right now, All-inclusive admission tickets are £23.50 per person and under 3’s go FREE. Fastpass tickets to visit Father Christmas at Santa’s Ghrotto are also available from the website here winterfunland.com

VIENNA CHRISTMAS MARKETS Christmas is coming up, so why not head somewhere festive for your holidays by booking flights to Vienna with Liverpool John Lennon Airport?! Vienna is an epicentre of breathtaking architecture, mouth-watering cuisine and refined culture – and there are so many more reasons to visit. The whole city is enamoured with its coffee culture, musical diversity and a striking mix of imperialist buildings and modern structures. Twice-weekly flights from Liverpool to Vienna commenced at the end of October, with Austrian airline Lauda making its LJLA bow. VIENNA – CAPITAL OF THE CHRISTMAS MARKET A festive break away isn’t complete without a visit to a charming Christmas market full of hand-crafted gifts, traditional food and drink and lots more. Vienna has one of the most revered Christmas market programmes on the continent, hosting festive venues at various locations across the city. Whether you’re looking to warm with a mug of mulled wine or want to pick up a present for your loved ones, there’s nowhere better to go in the build-up to Christmas than Vienna. VIENNESE DREAM CHRISTMAS MARKET Located in front of the Rathaus (City Hall) is one of 22

the most popular markets in Vienna. Cast against the stunning backdrop of the City Hall, you’ll find a host of different stalls selling handmade gifts, hot drinks and delicious food, including various würstelstands – Viennese staples that sell delicious sausages and hotdogs in a variety of flavours. The Viennese Dream is a great market to visit with family, or as an entry on an itinerary for a romantic getaway. Daniel Craig is back

for one last turn as the greatest spy of them all in new Bond film No Time to Die, but even now, is he ready to hand over the reins?

TIME IS UP FOR 007 I n recent years, his clinging on to the role has been as much down to a lack of a strong, readyto-go replacement, not that Daniel is yet pondering life post-exit with too much certainty. “I’m still concentrating on the present, and that is this year’s project,” he begins. “I have enjoyed talking about and thinking about the new Bond film as much as I have any of the others, and that tends to be the way it goes.”

24

“I guess it all goes back to the fact that, even as a child, I knew that if you weren’t in this game for doing something like Bond, then what would you be in it for? If an opportunity doesn’t arise to become famous, wealthy and successful, then why are you doing it? If you’re going to take on Bond,

you’ve got to be able to enjoy the ride, and I genuinely think I have done.”

While so much of the success behind Daniel Craig’s portrayal of 007 has been the man himself, the Chester-born actor has the humility to admit there is so much more to the package. “People talk about Bond, about stunning locations and death-defying stunts, but for me it’s always come down to the story. Any of the big set pieces in Bond, they evolve, and that’s how good cinema comes about. You have to trust that will happen, but that will only happen if the story holds together. If it doesn’t, you can end up with the best stunt sequences in the

world and it’s not going to make any difference.” “That’s where most of the hard work is done, at the beginning, with the story,” he admits. “Then the creatives are brought in, and the production designers, stunt coordinators and special effects guys.” “I know I will really miss seeing such talented people doing amazing things, but you have to be honest with yourself and admit there is a time to go.”

The strapping actor’s other reason for stepping aside is, of course, because the pitter-patter of tiny feet is filling the air again. In truth though, even Daniel Craig would have done a doubletake at the implausibility of a film script supposing he would become a father again at the age of 50. But a return to 3am feeds with Rachel Weisz leaves 007 brimming, and his beautiful wife thrilled at the chance to “do it all over again”. “It does feel like another opportunity to do all those wonderful things I’d forgotten about,” he says. “Whether I can still do them the way I used to be able to remains to be seen, but I’m glad of the time to be able to at least try!” Certainly, his daughter, whose name has not yet been released, will grow up having a view on Bond that many of us have forgotten – namely that it’s not Daniel Craig under that sharp suit. For the actor, it’s a good thing: “I’m looking forward to what’s next, and in my head, the more diverse the better,” he says. “I’m trying to get on with things and look for stuff that I want to do. I’m certainly not after sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll, I like to entertain people. And I’m not looking for credibility – if you do, it doesn’t work.”

“But I am looking to explore beyond the confines of Bond, and I think I still have a lot to offer.” And while the threat of being typecast still hovers close by, certainly you feel the actor’s humility should be enough to guide him forward. Evidence? Well, when asked what his favourite Bond movie was across the previous 24 incarnations, he chuckles back, “Certainly not one of mine!”

DANIEL CRAIG, LOVES AND HATES LOVES

NEW YORK CITY “A vibrant and stimulating place like no other. No-one really pays any attention to me except if I stand in one place too long, so I keep moving. (Laughs)” COOKING “I do everything in the kitchen... I enjoy spending time with Rachel. We love to cook together.” PLAYING BOND “If you’re going to do that sort of stuff, you’ve just got to get it right. You’ve got to give it your best shot. When you’ve got all that talent, everyone gunning to make it good, you’ve got to get it.”

PERFORMING LIVE ON STAGE “Standing up in front of people and pretending to know what you’re talking about is hard. It’s a world away from film but I love the thrill of it.”

HATES

NOT GOING TO BARS “Back in the day, you could go and have a drink in the bar, get drunk, fall over, have a good time and noone would know about it. But now everyone’s got a camera, so you can’t live a normal life any more… which is sad, because I like bars.” BEING PERCEIVED AS GRUMPY “I’m rubbish at grinning on demand so I’m branded as mean and moody when I’m photographed. I’m just not that person, honestly!” ABUSE OF WOMEN “I grew up in an environment of girls... I have a problem with any kind of power prevaricating, especially if directed against women.” TECH IN THE BEDROOM “There’s nothing technological allowed in the bedroom.... If the iPad goes to bed, I mean, unless you’re watching porn on the internet, it’s a killer. We have a ban on it.” 25

TH EATR E LIVERPOOL’S ROYAL COURT HAVE ANNOUNCED THEIR CHRISTMAS SHOW FOR 2019 AND IT WILL BE THE SCOUSE SNOW WHITE! Just like the last few Christmas shows, the show is only suitable for those aged 16 and over so treat yourselves to a babysitter and book in for a great night out!

L

ast year’s Christmas show, The Scouse Cinderella, was a record breaker for the theatre, selling out shows throughout the run. This year is selling even faster with audiences quick to take up the one and two course meal options with customers able to book a pre-show main course and a dessert that will be delivered to their tables during the interval. Kevin Fearon, writer of The Scouse Nativity and The Scouse Cinderella, will again be penning the script with Chris Mellor directing. The cast has been confirmed as Samantha Arends, Jamie Clarke, Michael Fletcher, Stephen

Fletcher, Lindzi Germain, Andrew Schofield, Hayley Sheen and Keddy Sutton. The beautiful Snow White runs into some dwarves in the forest and six out of seven of them aren’t happy. She might be the fairest of them all but her new housemates keep calling her a high hoe. Some minging witch is trying to give her an apple with a virus and a weird old letch is waiting for her to pass out so he can kiss her! Eeew! The Royal Court Christmas show is always packed with great live music and more silly jokes than you can shake a tiny pickaxe at.

Kevin Fearon, Executive Producer at Liverpool’s Royal Court and writer of the show: “The Royal Court Christmas show has got a great reputation for being, funny, silly and packed with great music. Last year’s show was our most successful ever so we have set the bar pretty high! Box Office phones have been ringing solidly since the show went on sale in March and the cast are having a whale of a time in rehearsals so we are all set for another great Christmas at The Court!” The show contains some strong language and the recommended age limit is 16+. Anybody under the age of 14 will be turned away.

The Scouse Snow White runs from Friday 22 November 2019 until Saturday 18 January 2020. Tickets start at £15 and are available from www.royalcourtliverpool.com or on 0151 709 4321 26

The Happiness of Pursuit Top performance coach and business consultancy leader.

I am a business owner and director of Dasala Ltd a performance coaching and business consultancy business. I work across all sectors with a focus on leadership and senior management with a mind to always help individuals and teams to perform at their best. I speak across the UK and Europe as a keynote speaker to audiences of managers and leaders from business.

Zie l schmerz Ok, I’m showing off a bit now ... this is my new favourite word. The Germans have just the best words to describe things. So what does Zielschmerz mean? The literal meaning is the dread of getting what you want. It’s a bit of a strange theory to wrestle with ... why would anybody be scared of getting what they want ... I guess it’s more about daring to dream but not doing anything about your dream because you think it’s out of reach ... or maybe thinking that you just don’t deserve it The thing about dreams is that they are ideas and concepts that you have in your head and they excite you. And they remain dreams because you haven’t yet experienced

them. But mostly they remain dreams because you don’t quite know where to start to make them happen. Well, the starting point is don’t be afraid to feel afraid. Courage and vulnerability go hand in hand when you set out on a dream a good dollop of apprehension is good for you because it keeps you grounded. Once you accept that a bit of fear is ok there’s something else you need to know. Failure is ok too. I know lots of successful people and I don’t think I know any that succeeded at their first attempt, so by definition they have failed along the way. In some cases many times. Failure is a part of the journey.

Email: darren@dasala.co.uk or follow me on 30

And then of course there is the plan. The steps. The milestones. The goals. These are the things you need to articulate so that you set a clear path to fulfilling your dream. I should now admit that Zielschmerz is a word invented recently by a guy called John Koenig ... it really does mean ‘the dread of getting what you want’ ... and it definitely does exist as a state of mind ... because if a person doesn’t take the first step to make their dream come true then the fear and dread wins. If you want to find out how to take the first step or learn about other methods and strategies to help your own personal development please email me at darren@ dasala.co.uk.

o November is here which means that Christmas is just a rattle of jingle bells away. I am delighted to announce that I will be spending Christmas once again with Lee Kelly and LHK Productions playing the Slave of the Ring In Aladdin at the Stiwt Theatre in Wrexham It’s going to be a blast – and LHK are celebrating their 10th Anniversary at the Stiwt – so I am so happy to be part of it. I have also been reunited on the microphone hosting events with 2 of my favourite people, firstly Scott Hughes who I teamed up with to host the biennial Motor Neurone ball with at The Titanic Hotel which resulted in raising £11000, and also Jay Hynd when we also go together at the Titanic to celebrate 25 years of the incredible work that MSIF have done for this City. It

S I M M O really is a privilege to host these events and see first hand what goes on in our wonderful City that perhaps people aren’t always aware of. It was an honour to host Everton in the Community & BTR “If you 5Know your History” run and congratulate people crossing the finish line at the Isla Gladstone where they had run across the city form Goodison. Had the life scared out of me once again at Farmageddon when I showed myself up in front of my teenage daughter and her mates by being a quivering wreck in the corner. I can’t seem to stop myself going back to try and unleash my fears! On a slightly less scary note – finished a busy month watching the fantastic Little Mix with Melodie at the M&S Bank Arena who put on such a great show – and it was clear they loved being in our fantastic city.

Beating the dark This time of year is all about the dark. Dark mornings, dark nights, leave work an its dark, go to work an its dark, it can seem like we are living in complete darkness. Darker mornings and evenings can make us feel cosy but they can also lower our vibrational state making us feel more tired, sadder, and much less energy and motivation. We can either accept that its winter an we ‘just feel like this’ OR we can take control of our life with my top tips for beating the dark. 1. Let there be light in the morning. You already know that mornings are hardest so lets be prepared for the dark. I found leaving a light on very effective, wether that be in the hall or a lamp next to your bed that you can flick on first thing. The best way for me to let in the light is to immediately open the curtains, even if its still dark it is a message to your brain that you are awake. Get the light in. 36

2. Water Start the morning off with a glass of water, wake up our body and our mind with a drink. Mostly people reach for a coffee first, trying switching your first drink to water and see how much of a refreshing difference it makes. Have a water ready for when you come downstairs in the fridge or have some by your bed and let that be the first thing you do. 3.Splash your face. A cold splash of water to wake yourself up out of your sleepy haze is the best thing to do instead of being groggy for half an hour, its a great substitute for coffee and a better habit too. (not washing your face with coffee, drinking it, can you tell I don’t drink it by now…) 4. Get Mindful and kind with yourself Now is the time for being super mindful with yourself, be mindful of your thoughts, words, feelings and actions, and be super mindful of being kind to yourself. This is the time when we start with the negative self talk

Email: Themindsetmovement@hotmail.com

www.themindsetmovement.co.uk

because we are in a lower vibrational state. It doesn’t have to be this way, be mindful of kindness to yourself. 5. Wake up. This is the biggest one for me here, no snoozing your alarm, and no laying in bed when its time to get up. Laying there in the warm makes it so much harder to get up and start your day. Start your day the second the alarm goes off. Beat the snooze and your half way there to a better day already. The dark mornings and dull days can add to us feeling lower but remember we have the chance every day to lift ourselves up.

CAL RUDDY A

fter recently winning “Best Live Entertainer” at The Liverpool Lifestyle Awards 2019 singer/ songwriter Cal Ruddy has launched his longanticipated debut album “Elliston Place”. Elliston Place was written over a couple of weeks of writing sessions in Nashville, Tennessee in September 2017. Ruddy collaborated with several successful songwriters such as Allen McKendree Palmer of Palmer Global Ink and some of his writers including Corey Lee Barker, Blake Densmore, Pevy Pevahouse and John Legend and India Arie’s producer, the late Blue Miller. Cal’s trip to Nashville was crowdfunded with a successful Gofundme campaign that raised £5000 with donations from across the globe showing that Cal has a growing international fanbase. One on one writing sessions with these writers inspired Cal to broaden his writing style, conjuring

up sounds of old school country, Rockabilly and Americana influences.

Drawing upon a broad range of genres from the 1950’s and 60’s, Cal is particularly influenced by artists such as Elvis, Buddy Holly, The Everly Brothers, The Beatles and Johnny Cash.

Cal has enjoyed fantastic media exposure with airplay from Radio City, been featured on ITV’s Granada Reports and Channel 5. He had a slot at Liverpool’s Sound City earlier this year and the track “Been Here Before” co written with Blue Miller recently had its debut on Dave Monks new music show on BBC Introducing Merseyside.

couple of months ago I was thrilled to receive The Positive Award for Healing at the Hilton Hotel in a Liverpool with a room full of inspirational people and children, celebrating diversity through adversity, over coming struggles turning negative experiences into positives. I have been practising Healing for over 20 years and to achieve this award was truly amazing and heartfelt. So what is the healing I do? What’s it all about? What’s the buzz about Angelic Reiki? There are many forms of Reiki Healing. Rei -meaning Universal, Ki meaning Life energy. 20 years ago Holistic Healing was usually a last resort, fast forward to now and we are so aware of our own health and well-being we are familiar with a plethora ancient healing techniques.

38

Angelic Reiki is a safe , high frequency, multidimensional, system of healing. It works on a soul level, treating the root cause of any condition, promoting a

very deep healing and transformation. During a treatment both the client and the healer are connected to the pure divine energy of the Angelic kingdom of light. This allows the high vibrational energies of the Angels, ArchAngels, Ascended Masters and Galactic Healers to work on the client to help release physical, ancestral, emotional and karmic imbalances across all time and space. Living in the 21st century we have our fair share of problems, social anxiety, global warming, knife crime to name a few or the pressure of keeping everything together to live the perfect life yet we could be in trauma from childhood, carrying toxic baggage, PTSD, Anxiety, failed relationships, addiction problems, grief. How to Make People like You (On Instagram) Instagram updated its algorithm this weekend, and everyone lost their minds!! Remember how borrowed time meant we could create cool Instagram captions? No? Well, anyway, that’s dead. Let’s continue. #1. I can’t help you. Seriously though, it’s rough out there!! Everyone and their mother is fighting over every morsel of attention on Instagram. I can’t help you. LOL. Just kidding. Algorithm updates can’t keep us apart... You have to upgrade your Instagram caption game though and become an interesting person otherwise I legit can’t help you..

40

#2. It’s showtime!! Now is the time to go hard and remember that you took a DNA test, and you’re 100% that bitch!! People are truly awful. Once you remember that, you can move on with

your life and be happy. Not relevant, but super important life lesson… #3. The actual facts are cool. I’ll stop playing. You need Instagram for your business, right? This is super simple but accurate. Post once every three days, at least. Use location hashtags. Make yourself visible locally. Use up to ten hashtags in every Instagram story. Use industry and local hashtags. Your Story views just multiplied like Gizmo in Gremlins after midnight when you throw water on him. You’re welcome! Hack the algorithm by being consistent. No, I don’t mean start calling that

person you’re sleeping with but don’t care for, daily. That’s not consistency. That’s called being a normal human being. Anyway, if you need to get exposure for your brand, initiate Amanda Moss PR to brainstorm a strategy. I can’t emphasize the importance of a PR team enough. The end.

Cra ig’s Mon tlhy Tip

Hello Lifestyle readers,

Tiling splash back and cutting tiles

After a busy summer of building, October was our opportunity to wind-down and chase a bit of belated sunshine.

Things you will need:

I am currently experiencing a large dose of the holiday blues as Laura, Nelly and I have recently returned from a two-week trip to Cyprus. It was lovely to escape our schedules and enjoy some much-needed family time. We spent our time exploring the island during the day and eating lots of delicious local cuisine in the evening. One of the many highlights from the trip was visiting the family home of Stavros Flatley who welcomed us with open arms – they loved their cuddle with Nelly too. For those that might not know who they are, they are a British-Greek Cypriot father and son dancing act who appeared on Britain’s Got Talent in 2009 and most recently brought their act back to the stage during Britain’s Got Talent the Champions. Aside from soaking up the sun, I got back into the Ideal World studio to film more with Wagner and scaled treetops at the Dream Build as part of some landscaping work we are doing at the house. The view from the top made the house look even more impressive and everything looks much tidier now ready for winter. I would also like to take this opportunity to give a shout out to my niece Kelly who in October won the 2019 Young Female Entrepreneur of the Year Award at a recent Celebrating Enterprising Women event in Merseyside. She co-owns Connect Studios which offer performance arts, fitness and yoga and has worked so hard to make the studio into what it is today.

Tiling is a wonderful way of changing the look and feel to any kitchen or bathroom. It’s not only nice to look at from a design aspect but far more hygienic and less maintenance is involved. •

To start off, finding the focal point or centre of the area you are about to tiling is vital. Mark in the centre so you have equal cuts both sides.

Using the tile adhesive spreader, comb the tile adhesive evenly and then you can start to fix the tiles from the centre working your way out, applying tile spacers as you go. Apply the second course using the same principals.

Cut straight or corners tiles using a cordless circular tile saw. After one hour remove spacers, clean off excess tile adhesive then leave for 24 hours to dry.

Apply grout using a plastic grout spatula, pushing it deep into the gaps.

After about 10 minutes start to polish off using a sponge to get a nice smooth finish.

Since last month’s column the clocks have gone back which means those dreaded dark evenings have now settled in. With this in mind, the following DIY Tip is something that you can do inside. All the best,

C r a ig

ctober 11th 2019 saw the release of “Smile”, the debut single from young Irish artist (and adopted scouser), Conleth McGeary. Described by the Liverpool Echo as “The young Irish Phenomenon taking over Liverpool”, Conleth has been selling out venues across his adopted city throughout 2019, recentlyadding venues in Belfast and London to venues across the Middle East where his shows sold out immediately they were announced.

no matter what the circumstance. This song was inspired by a charity I really have a lot of time for, Age UK. Combating loneliness in elderly people. I think we should make one small effort and call our grandparents, older famiy or friends, and even

somebody we know that might be struggling a bit maybe with mental health, and give them a reason to smile.” @conlethmcgeary Enquires martin@boldmanagement.com

Conleth said “This song has been so long in the pipeline, that I’m buzzing to finally get it out there. I have been itching to share this with everyone as it means so much. It’s called smile. It’s about smiling no matter what age you are, no matter what your going through, 45

ashion Maiden is a unique handmade clothing brand, that launched last year and debuted at Liverpool Fashion Week. Designer Eryn Durkin says, “I’ve always been interested in fashion, and after finishing an apprenticeship and weeks of debating what to do, I went out on my own and gave it a go. What started as me making a few skirts a week has turned into a small clothing brand that people recognise everywhere. Running this business allows me to be my most creative self, taking lots of inspo from the 60s/70s ‘Peace and Love’ era, as well as modern day brands like Moschino and Christian Cowen. I use Fashion Maiden to help others feel good about themselves, making clothes that are inclusive to all shapes and sizes, and have the option to be customised to completely suit you.” Instagram: @_fashionmaiden Facebook: Fashion Maiden Phone: 07496125998 Email: eryn99@hotmail.co.uk
