Secure Corporate and Domestic Storage in Cyprus
C
hange is bound to happen. Renovation, relocation, remodelling. All these rank as one of the most stressful life events. Your life and work are disrupted as you make adjustments and changes to your daily routine. Additionally, organising, packing and keeping track of your belongings is a hassle. Then, once you move, you have to figure out where to put all your items. Luckily, you can take away some of that stress by storing your possessions
6
at Peter Morton Removals storage facilities! At PMR, one of the core values is to make customers life as stress-free as possible. Renovation, Relocation and Remodelling, do not have to be stressful life events. Due to increased demand a few years ago, Peter Morton made a considerable investment and sourced a dedicated, massive storage facility on a 7,500 square meter site. Right now, it is ranked as the largest and safest storage facility in Cyprus. At PMR, the storage crates are made of wood and are 250 cubic ft each in size. The storage facilities are approved by BAR (British Association of Removers) and all crates are manufactured and imported from the UK. It’s easy to store items anywhere, but our warehouse is both convenient and protected. Considering
your belongings’ safety ahead of time will save you the stress of having to replace something later or potentially losing something irreplaceable, expensive or dear to your heart. Additionally, the warehouse itself and all goods that are in the store are fully insured! With the recent increase in Cyprus crime rates, storing valuable goods at home doesn’t seem like a safe option any longer. Unlike houses, storage facilities offer more security to stored items. At Peter Morton Removals, the whole facility is covered by a state-of-the-art security system monitored 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Three freerunning guard dogs also patrol the premises. It is, therefore, wiser to store valuable items in a
storage unit rather than in the garage or basement of our houses. Peter Morton Removals domestic storage crates are all individually numbered. They are loaded on to purposebuilt vehicles and brought to your house, ready to be loaded by the PMR team. Upon loading of each crate, with a full inventory, the doors will be secured. On arrival of the PMR vehicle back at a secure warehouse, your numbered crate will be placed back in its specific row by a forklift. This means your goods are not handled anymore from when collected. The redelivery process works exactly the same but in
reverse. Every crate that arrives at the warehouse is logged on to the computer system. You can access your domestic storage crates at any time by appointment with the office.
of where they going and what conditions they will be stored in. We welcome potential customers to come and view our facility, so you can see for yourself and be confident in your decision to use us.
At PMR, we always suggest to our clients that they come and look at the storage facility. If you want to store your goods, you need to be very sure For more information, please visit their website www.petermortonremoval.com or give them a call on 26923588 - Paphos office or 25722180 - Limassol office. 7
NIGHTLIFE
Lifestyle chats to Kevin and Kieran, owners of The Octagon and Stardust When did you meet? We met in 2001, we were both working for a tour operator overseas. In 2013 Kev was moved to Cyprus for work. Kieran followed the following year. When did you open Stardust? In 2016. We partnered with the Owner at the Octagon so we could run the shows during the summer season 2016 to 2018. During the winter 2018/2019 we completed a full refurbishment of the Stardust venue and in
8
2019 we took over the lease of The Octagon. What attracted you to the Octagon? We spent several years looking for a suitable venue to become the home of Stardust. The Octagon was recommended to us, and once we saw it, we knew we could make it work there. The venue used to be very popular with tourist and the local population and we wanted to bring life back to the village and this iconic venue.
What kind of shows do you bring? Last year we started to work with Morelli Events and have continued this year. Morelli events brings some amazing acts from overseas, and we are pleased to be holding those events. We also offer Free entertainment most Saturday nights with many of the areas local acts performing regularly at The Octagon. We also
offer weekly program including chef specials, quiz nights, activities for families and pleased to support various charities during the year. How has the pandemic affected business? It has been a tough 18 months. The loss of Stardust for the last two seasons has been difficult, but we are grateful that we have a large outside space and can offer a comfortable safe environment for our customers and have used the opportunity to develop The Octagon as a venue and happy with what has been achieved. The full closure of your business is challenging both on the health of your business and difficult to handle personally, so we are hoping that the worst is over, and we can continue to focus on what we love the most. We are really proud to see so many customers visiting us time after time and feeding back they feel safe with us. What kind of food do you offer? We have an international menu and try to offer something different to what is on offer already in the village. We have two great chefs who create the specials and support with the menu creation. We have some great homemade desserts which change
constantly. We also offer buffet and set menus for private functions and parties. What is the spark that attracts people to The Octagon? I think customers love coming to us because they get an all-round enjoyable experience. The food is fresh, we are very attentive and fun, we like to interactive with our customers and they feel very welcome and comfortable. We try and offer something for
everyone. Our team are our biggest asset, and we are proud to get positive comments from customers about them.

LIFESTYLE CHATS TO ALISON MEREDITH, OWNER OF YOUR HOME CYPRUS Tell us about Your Home Cyprus? We are a real estate agency with a difference! Trust, honesty and professionalism are the back bone to our company - and we think that shows in the number of referrals and recommendations we receive every day. How are you finding the property market at the moment? It is fair to say that the last 18 months have been challenging for everyone. But in the last 6 months we have seen a gradual increase in demand for property and relocation services, and all of the indications are that this will continue to gain pace as people feel more and more confident in travelling. Certainly the indications we have from talking to clients is that there is a huge pent up demand for property in Cyprus, as people seek a better life after their experience during the last two years.
Are you optimistic?
At Your Home Cyprus we feel very optimistic
10
for the future. The world loves Cyprus and, as a company, we are able to offer a friendly, reliable and trustworthy service to clients as they find their way back to our beautiful island. We have lots of innovative ideas that we are putting in place to help make the buying and relocation process that much easier for clients, whether they be here in person or on a virtual basis. Why is Cyprus such an attractive proposition for property investment? Cyprus is an amazing place to live and work! From the glorious weather to the low cost of living, low crime rates, amazing living standards, beautiful beaches and cosmopolitan cities such as Larnaca and Limassol, Cyprus has something for everyone to enjoy. And from a tax perspective, Cyprus has one of the most beneficial tax regimes in Europe, with low personal income tax rates and low corporate tax rates Cyprus is attractive for company’s and individuals alike.
Has the pandemic changed the market? The pandemic has changed how people access the Cyprus property market, but not their appetite to buy here. We are now offering many more services online, from virtual viewings, to online lawyers meetings and even online notorising of documents, the pandemic has made us look at different ways that we can conduct business. It has also meant that there is a lot of pent up demand from people who have not been able to travel so much during the last 18 months. The pandemic has made many people look at what they want from life and, the clients we talk to have very much decided that the time is right to make their dreams a reality.
Love Cyprus,
Love Life

PET HEALTH
Meet Dr Panagiotis Tsoukka DVM, MRCVS, owner of Furry Friends Veterinary Clinic
I
opened the practice on 11th January 2021. Prior to this I had spent two years in the UK. Then I wanted to come back to Cyprus as the pandemic hit and I was sick of the weather in the UK. I started doing some home visits last year some home visits but it was always my plan to open a practice and now I have one.
think Cyprus is ready for it, in the UK animal hospitals are open 24 hours and prices are 10 - 15 x more than here. But the quality of service is a lot higher; imagine a 24 hour hospital with 10 nurses round the clock looking after animals, it is going to be exceptional. And it is my dream to open something similar here.
There are two vets in here, myself and Panagiota Mousikou.
Here are Furry Friends we have all the equipment to treat our animals. We have a state of the art x-ray machine and an ultra sound. All our equipment is brand new, we are working to the highest gold standard.
I wasn’t expecting to be that busy when we opened, but we have 500 clients. Clients and not animals because already we treat about 800 pets. We are doing a great job so far. So far so good. We do operations, soft tissue surgery, emergency surgeries, we have a lot of cats neutered and dogs castrated. Not all is off peak surgeries, we accept all cases. We are lucky in Cyprus that vets bills are not as expensive as in the UK and so pet insurance is not necessary. I don’t 12
We are very passionate about what we do. I personally will never be defeated in my life, always trying my best and I work long hours I will do everything to save a patient, I have slept 5-7 days in the clinic to ensure a patient doesn’t die. I wanted to become a vet because I love the challenge. There are not a lot of vets in the area
and it isn’t just my love for animals, it is a profession, you need to be the best that you can be. It is a difficult and hard job. We never turn down a patient and already people come from as far away as Nicosia and Larnaca, we have a very good name. For more details call 23 744494

SHOPPING Life is so much more fun when you’re a crazy cow!
Meet Businesswomen Lisa Thomas and Rachel Stone, the people behind Crazy Cow Gifts, a unique online,
cards, gifts & experiences platform in Cyprus. They each own their own wedding supply businesses, and the social media platform Cyprus Daily Life, there’s no stopping them taking the island by storm! How did Crazy Cow Gifts come about?
We were struggling to find gifts for our sons and partners for special occasions such as Christmas and birthdays, and we found in Cyprus there isn’t one single place you can go to where you will find a gift for everyone, so we saw a gap in the market and the opportunity to bring together businesses and individuals from all over Cyprus, by selling their gifts & experiences on our site. We launched in March 2020 but we had been talking about it for a long time prior to that, and the coronavirus lockdown gave us the
20
kickstart to make it happen.
What makes it different? We are

BAKING
Meet Anna Costi, A Young Baker Rising To The Top How old are you and how did you discover your passion? Currently I am 16 years old but my baking passion began at the age of 9, I was experimenting a family cake recipe and I just fell in love with this industry. It was love at first sight... from that day and on I was baking almost every day and trying new recipes regularly. At the age of 14, I decided to start my own home cake workshop and served hundreds of customers since then. People loved my desserts and I received a lot of positive comments! Since then I am selling from my workshop a variety of desserts from cakes, cupcakes, cookies, cake pops, macarons etc.
22
What is your favourite recipe? French macarons, even though it’s a complicated recipe I love making it. They have some difficult but challenging techniques that you can experiment with. Not only that but you can be creative by trying different flavour
combinations like pistachio, strawberry, chocolate etc.
What do you love about baking? How creative it can be and challenging at the same time. You can make everything in any flavour, any colour and any design you can imagine! You have the opportunity to put your own character into each of your creations and create something wonderful...This is what I love about baking the most...the chance to get creative. Tell us about your TV shows? Until now I’ve been on TV more than 4 times and it has been amazing. The first time I had the opportunity to go on TV was back in 2016, when I was 12 years old, it was an amazing experience and that made me want to chase and explore this industry even more. Now I am talking with a tv program to appear regularly on their show starting from September. In June, I
appeared on tv where I made a dessert on Alpha Cyprus in the show “Me Agaph Xristianna”. It was such a great feeling, the setting, the editors, the journalist it was just... magnificent! How easy has it been to get where you are? Not always easy, I’ve been working really hard since day one trying to build a good base for my future. In these last few months people have been so supportive and helpful that made all of that hard work worth it! I upload consistent regular content on all of my social media platforms to build an audience that trust me and not only that but learn along with my journey, tips and tricks for achieving the best results possible. After I finish High School next year I am planning to go
and Study Pastry Arts at a university in France or Switzerland. When I finish my studies, I will work hard all around the world to expand my knowledge and learn a variety of different tastes and cultures. I am planning to start my own bakery chain all around the world or create a baking related product that can be found in all the supermarkets.
baker I would advice you to chase your dreams and work hard to build a great base for your future.
I’ve never thought that what started as my hobby is now what people know me for. It’s such a nice experience to start doing something you love and all of a sudden to become your current and future profession. How supportive are your family? My family was really supportive since day one! My parents, my sister and my brother were there for me thought-out this journey and helping me with my decisions! Without them and their help I wouldn’t be where I am today!! What ave you learn about the baking industry? I have to admit that the baking industry is quite challenging, you need to know that you will need to work hard to become a successful baker and also be creative! However, if you have passion and will, you can achieve anything you want. As a young hobby

CYPRUS RESIDENCY PLANNING GROUP
APPLICATIONS FOR RESIDENCY Is CRPG still operating? Yes, CRPG
will continue until 30 September 2021.
Why did you previously announce that CRPG will close on 30 June? This was – at
the time – in line with the rest of Europe however the FCDO recognises that there are still UK Nationals who need assistance so the project has been extended
Will people still be able to apply for the MUKW1, 2 or 3 going forward? Only
if that person arrived, or was resident, in Cyprus prior to the end of the Withdrawal Agreement, i.e. 31 December 2020 and has documentary evidence to support their application – the CRPG Help Desk can advise on this.
Do we have to change our MEU’s for the new MUKW’s? It is not
obligatory to do so
Where will UKN’s go for advice after CRPG ceases to operate?
There is always plenty of 26

If I am not registered with Gesy and do not have an S1, can I use my EHIC/GHIC in Cyprus? Either card can
You need a residency document and an S1 if you are claiming a UK Govt Pension or worked here and paid into Social Insurance (or a frontline worker)
There is now an online portal where you can make an appointment – it will give you the next available date and a selection of times. You print this off and take it with you to immigration https://crmd.simplybook. pro – it really is very simple!

“Our restaurant, our life’’
Our dream was to one day create good service for tourists that would make their holidays here in Cyprus, even more special. This dream came true in 1989, where we established a small family business in Ayia Napa, a restaurant, as I (Theo) am a trained chef and my brother (Peter) is a trained waiter. Since then we have tried our best to provide as much satisfaction as possible to our customers.
There’s a reason why Flames Restaurant is listed as one of Trip Avisor’s top ten restaurants in Ayia Napa. Dedicated to providing an excellent service, its winning mix of friendly staff, a great atmosphere and delicious food has delighted diners since it was established 1989. If traditional Cypriot dishes are what your after, Flames is the place to go. You’ll find House Specialities, Steak, Grills, Fish, Pasta Vegan and Vegetarian Dishes on the Menu. Not to mention its fabulous Wine list and homemade desserts - all chosen to complement your meal perfectly. 30

To Hug or Not to Hug? Navigating Post Pandemic Intimacy strengthens social bonds.
I
ntimacy and physical touch are big parts of many people’s lives. A warm hug can offer a level of reassurance and comfort but they are a breach of personal boundaries. The pandemic has certainly widened the gulf between huggers and non-huggers. While some of us have spent the past year or so craving physical intimacy and longing for the day when we can wrap our loved ones in a tight embrace, or even throw our arms around new acquaintances, others plan to stick to social distancing for a while longer. So, what is it about hugs that some of us crave so much? How can we navigate hugging and respect people’s boundaries in a postpandemic world?
32
What’s in a hug? There’s scientific evidence that hugs can really boost your mood. When we enjoy a long and meaningful hug, our brains release the hormone oxytocin, which helps us to feel calm and
Research has also found oxytocin to help decrease stress and anxiety. This means that a good hug can work wonders for some people’s mental well-being.
It has been found that many children require hugs and physical contact from a young age as a part of their healthy development. Why then do the seemingly magical powers of hugging not apply to us all? Why hugging isn’t for everyone A study from 2012 backs this theory up. It was found that people who were raised as huggers were more likely to enjoy hugging as an adult compared to those who weren’t. On top of that, social anxiety plays a role in some people’s aversion to hugging. People sometimes just don’t feel comfortable sharing a hug, particularly with someone that they don’t know well. Personal boundaries are extremely important.
Social distancing rules have meant that throwing your arms around a loved one isn’t quite so simple anymore. For many, navigating hug etiquette during the pandemic has been an uphill battle. Even now, as restrictions are being loosened, hugging is still a contentious topic. The question is, with so many different views on hugging at this stage in the pandemic, how can we make sure everyone feels comfortable? One way of dealing with this is pretty simple – asking. As restrictions are eased, everyone will be getting back to ‘normal’ at their own pace. Different people will have different personal boundaries. So, even if you can’t wait for close human contact, ask others how they feel about it. Be mindful that some people might still feel uncertain or anxious about hugging – whether their feelings are in relation to the pandemic or not.

ESS A LIFESTYLE OF WELLN
The Power Within Everybody deserves to be treated with respect. Even better is to be treated with kindness. Above all we all wish to be heard and seen. Yet, do you give this to yourself? Ask yourself this question: “Would I accept a friend to talk to me how I speak to myself?” If the answer is no, then it’s time to review and rewrite the text of your self-talk. How can you expect to be seen and heard for your best self if you constantly doubt your attractiveness, intelligence and the ability to make good decisions? Rewriting your inner voice begins with learning to notice what you say to yourself throughout the day. Are you kind and supportive to yourself or are you unkind and judgmental? Do you praise yourself for work well done or are you looking only for the mistakes? In short your inner voice should be your biggest cheerleader and not a source of insecurity. The second step is to decide what you can say
34
to encourage self worth at all times v putting yourself down. Some examples of this are:
Ekaterina Sophia in Larnaca Join Ekaterina for meditations at The Tree of Life in Larnaca, Thursdays 6pm
Next time I will do better v I always fail. This has been a powerful learning experience v I am so stupid. I look beautiful as I am, I accept myself as I am v I hate the way I look. I love myself and wish to be in good health v I am fat. Lastly, begin to speak with kindness and encouragement. If your self-talk takes a negative tone, say three positive observations. The key to success is to believe what you say is true. If in doubt of what is the best selftalk, think about what an ideal parent would say in each scenario. Your mind is like a spunge and listens to everything you think or say. Then it makes your words and thoughts your reality. If you think you are not
good enough you will attract people like a magnet who will confirm this to you daily. If you know you deserve to be loved and respected and give this to yourself over time you will be surrounded by a reality that supports this vision of yourself. Let your new moto be, I speak to myself as I wish to be treated and spoken to by others. With joy, Ekaterina Sophia

MUSIC
Feeling the summer vibes with EUROPIANA! Singer songwriter and musician Jack Savoretti recently released his 7th studio album EUROPIANA. An album which celebrates the music of Europe, succeeding in blending disco, funk and soul, laced with his own influences and song writing. The 11-track album has an 80’s Retro, Euro pop and funky feel to it with soulful elements with a disco touch. It awakens feelings of warmth and happiness and hints of melancholy. In a nutshell its European song writing and traditional storytelling with disco, funk and grooves. The artist describes the album as a soundtrack of past holidays, rekindling memories of his summers spent in Italy when he was a boy, and wanted to share the pleasures it brought him. He had an urgency to bring the summer

feelings and experiences to his family at home during COVID 19, thus the inspiration was born from the desire for pure escapism, resulting in its concept. The deep sense of nostalgia complimented by happy moments of summer and freedom. “It’s the music of my childhood summers, remade for today.” J.S. I Remember Us is a beautiful song which awakens feelings of true love and memories, War of Words gives you goosebumps, Secret Life has a Retro feel with keyboards and melodies, Who’s Hurting Who and Dancing in The Living Room makes you
want to dance and are easy to sing along to. When You’re Lonely is probably a favourite… funky, chic and groovy. Overall, even though I am a true Rocker at heart, I appreciate most music and love this album and fingers crossed, I will see him perform these songs in Athens in September. Even though the singer is English, he is a true European artist with European roots – his father is Italian, and his mother is Polish German. He lived in Switzerland and was influenced by the many people that surrounded him as a young boy growing up, which led to his vision of writing an album that celebrates European
music and labelling this genre of music, EUROPIANA. Just as Americana was created when American soul, funk and disco came over and collided with European song writing, now Europiana, a homage to European culture and musical heritage has been labelled If you’re still wondering what this album gives you apart from a collection of great songs then, “Just picture yourself in Italy riding a Vespa through the southern coasts and you will have an immediate grasp of what this record is all about”. J.S. VIVA EUROPIANA!!
Hello The Zilla Project! …..lovingly described as ‘music for the soul’ The Zilla Project is a four-piece band from Nicosia, known as being the most original and leading Blues band on the island, playing original compositions and their own versions of well-known classic

Their outstanding musical talents and professionalism has given the band a wide and loyal following on island and has seen them perform at many Live Music venues and festivals. Their quality of musicianship has also led them to tour in Switzerland and Greece and to perform with well-known International and world class guitarists, including the likes of Kirk Fletcher, Adam Levy, Gil Edwards, Bex Marshall and most recently, guitar extraordinaire Babis Tyropoulos from Greece. The Zilla Project continuously, without fail, give us the highest quality music and the opportunity to see world class guitar virtuosos perform with them, in small

Music full of raw emotion, guitar riffs that sing to you and smooth rich vocals that will have you wanting more. After every Zilla show that I have attended keeping in mind that ZILLA means large and impressive, I am on a music high and reminded of the magic of the Blues and the importance of Live shows. The Zilla Project are Emmanuel Vourakis aka ‘Big Mo’ on vocals and guitar, Andreas Millns on keys, Stefanos Meletiou on drums and Loizos Pafitis on Bass. Listen to their music and then see them perform…..you’ll thank me! 37
