WINTER WONDERLAND SET TO RETURN TO MANCHESTER THIS CHRISTMAS The UK’s biggest Christmas indoor Winter Wonderland, is set to return to Manchester on 6th December.
F
ollowing last year’s hugely successful event which saw over 85,000 people visit the Christmas festivities, Santa’s little helpers have worked with the event organisers to launch this year’s Winter Wonderland, promising it to be the best yet! Winter Wonderland 2019 will see five amazing festive attractions including: A huge real ice rink, a fabulous Christmas circus, an incredible panto, a vast indoor funfair and of course, Santa Claus. As well as all these attractions there will be plenty of food and drink available, catering for a wide range of requirements including vegan, vegetarian, gluten and lactose free options. Refreshments will also be available to get visitors into the festive spirit. For parents of young children, there will be plenty of space to park any prams as well as a quiet breastfeeding area and baby changing facilities throughout the venue.
Winter Funland event director, Andy Windmill, said: “Last years event was a phenomenal success and this year promises to be bigger, brighter and full of even more festive fun. We have pulled out all of the stops to ease queues for Santa, quicker service for food and of course – brought in even more exciting funfair rides” The organisers have also created an autism-friendly sensory experience as part of the Winter Funland which will be available exclusively for autistic children and their family to enjoy on Monday 9th December. The Winter Funland will be closed to the general public and transformed making it a welcoming and exciting space for young people affected by autism. Not only will there will be fewer crowds around, but the volume of the attractions will be lowered, the lighting and flickering lights will be reduced and a special space to chill out if any aspect gets too
overwhelming will also be available. Last year’s event gave over £100,000 worth of tickets to local charities & underprivileged families and promise to do the same again in 2019! Winter Funland is taking place at EventCity, opposite intu Trafford Centre and there are over 3,000 free car parking spaces. The doors will officially open to the public on 6th December and will remain open until 5th January 2020 with tickets available right now, All-inclusive admission tickets are £23.50 per person and under 3’s go FREE. olidays are coming, which means families all over the country are flocking to their town centres to see a large red lorry they’ve seen on a television advert.
and bottles, which are converted to a charity pledge; and while the motivation is honourable, BusinessWaste.co.uk says this play mere lip-service to the environmental impact
But one British waste and recycling company thinks that the Coca-Cola Christmas truck tour is one Christmas “tradition” which should be put in the bin.
BusinessWaste.co.uk ran the numbers and found that the American-styled Coca-Cola Scania T Cab lorry:
The company is promoting its global “World Without Waste” pledge where visitors are asked to bring empty cans
•
Weighs 40 tonnes fullyloaded with promotional fizzy pop
•
Will use 287 gallons (1,305 litres) of diesel fuel
•
At current fuel prices (£1.31/ litre) that’s £1,709 – about
the same that an average family will spend on fuel annually •
That’s the same as 750 school lunches
Coca-Cola are giving 10p to homeless charity Crisis for every bottle or can dropped into their recycling bins during the tour. They’re also pledging to collect and recycle a bottle or can for every one they sell by the year 2030. That’s also excellent news, especially in the light of the fact that their products currently make up a significant proportion of plastic pollution. So why don’t Coca-Cola just make a flagship donation to charity anyway? The fuel cost of the tour alone could cover shelter and meals for 60 homeless people at Christmas. BusinessWaste.co.uk knows the financial and environmental costs of running forty-tonne trucks up and down motorways. Two years ago, Public Health England said that it was “the last thing children need” in the midst of an obesity crisis among young people.

CORDEN BLEU! James Corden returns to the centre stage with purr-fect aplomb.
W
here festive seasons ultimately succeed is in pushing the mystery and magic to almost inconceivable levels of comprehension. In past years we’ve had a train to the North Pole in The Polar Express, we’ve had Elsa, Olaf, Anna, Kristof and others in the original Frozen, and even The Greatest Showman sauntered in stage-left two years ago to add a wintry, panto-esque shimmer to what the Christmas schedule. Yet none have gone quite as far as Cats, a reimagining of the sumptuous Andrew Lloyd Webber musical from 1981, and based on the original poems by T.S. Eliot. 14
That director/producer Tom Hopper managed to convince a cast of the might of Dame Judi Dench, Jason Derulo, Idris Elba, Jennifer Hudson, Taylor Swift and Rebel Wilson to apply whiskers and run around in furry suits is impressive enough, but to lure James Corden away from his commitments Stateside – notably his hugely successful stint presenting The Late Late Show – means Cats is already been tipped for big honours, on cast alone.
His last meaningful fulllength effort was Peter Rabbit, the animated adventure in which he voiced the lead character. Bit-parts since in Ocean’s 8 and Yesterday, combined with various other voice roles, confirm that the London-born actor is a man big on intention but short on time… something that’s understandable when you consider he and wife Julia only recently welcomed third child Charlotte into the world, joining Max, eight, and Carey, five.
For Corden, 41, the film represents a move back to conventional film – if you can call it that – following some considerable time away from the big screen, at least where full-on acting projects go.
“Having a third has blown my mind all over again,” he says. “It’s like nothing you can ever imagine, and more and more now I find myself looking out for the sorts of projects that will make them happy, rather than me!”
Certainly, as far as time restraints go, we can forgive the former Fat Friends and Gavin & Stacey star his intention to dip his toe into only very few major roles, which makes his agreement to spend hours in the costume department for Cats all the more incredible, even if the end project is again rather limited. “I think it’s one of those projects that is so far out of the ordinary that it just resonates on too many levels for you to say ‘no’ to it,” he says. “Ultimately, Cats is something that someone of my age grew up with – it’s an iconic musical that inspired me when I was a kid and has done the same for many millions of others.” “When the chance comes along to put your own slant on that, and with so many other incredible people all joining in, sometimes you have to accept that it’s more difficult to turn it down than it is to take it!” Corden plays Bustopher Jones, the Edwardian gentle of leisure who frequents a number of nightclubs around St James’s Street as he seeks out the finer things in life. “He’s a bit like I was a few years ago – happy, good to be around, up for a bit of fun; but someone who at the first sign of trouble will run a mile,” he laughs.
There was a point where it seemed as if the film may not make it to this stage at all. An animated film adaptation was originally planned in the 1990s, but found itself shelved with studio Amblimation closed. Lloyd Webber reignited the idea in 2013, and director tom Hopper was confirmed three years later. When previewed earlier this year the combination of CGI and live-action was met with some uncertainty, but Cats, much like the original musical, is a purring, controversial and, at times, unsettling experience anyway, and living up to its reputation in any way possible is undoubtedly something its executive producers – who include Steven Spielberg in their number – intended. For Corden, the movie is a welcome step away from voiceover work. “Voice work is a lot easier to slot in here and there and I love it as it works for the time in my life. But every now and again some stuff comes up that I love so much that I try to find those extra gaps in the schedule. “I think people believe that with modern film-making anything is possible and everything can be made to look good, but on so many occasions you go through lines or rock up on set with profound doubts about a project.”
“Even Peter Rabbit felt like an absolutely huge thing to take on. Being British, there isn’t a child in Britain who didn’t grow up reading Beatrix Potter - those stories have been around for generations and generations, so it felt wrong tampering with a classic.” “The fact that it turned out so beautifully has reassured when it comes to other projects, such as this one. Sometimes you need to have faith in the fact others know better and have been doing things a lot longer than you!” And while one would believe Corden continues to earn some serious cool dad points with his latest role, the entertainer admits his brood couldn’t care less. “It glosses over them quite quickly,” he says. “At certain ages they don’t really equate you doing a silly voice in the front room any differently to them hearing you speak on the telly.” “It’s a beautifully simple way of looking at life. And if one day I’m Peter Rabbit and the next I’m the Gruffalo, and then next I’m in a car driving around LA engaged in a rap battle with Dame Helen Mirren, then so be it, I guess!”

A new traditional old English pub in the heart of Mathew street. The theme is a medieval but warm traditional English pub with classic features and fittings. The site will have an excellent choice of beers and cask ales with great offers also on whiskeys and gins. Liverpool’s official history starts on the 28th August 1207, when King John ‘founded’ the area of ‘Liuerpul’ granting it the status as an official town in his Royal Charter.
The Charter meant a great deal to the small village and people living there. Whereas in the past everything there belonged to the King, the Charter gave them more freedom in the things they bought and sold, and generally improved their lives. King John invited people to come and live in the area as they could now rent a house and a piece of land to grow things. He built a Castle in the area that we now call Castle Street, and in fact the village of Liverpool was only made up of seven streets in this area. Many of these streets survive today; They were Dale Street, Castle Street, Chapel Street, Moor Street (now Tithebarn Street), Bancke Street (now Water Street), Peppard Street (Old Hall Street) and Juggler Street (High Street). Maybe only 100 or 200 people lived in Liverpool at this time. Pub Invest Group own over 30 sites in the city from Soho and Level to the Old Bank and McCooleys. Address: 9 Mathew St, Liverpool L2 6RE

COM M E NT MY CHRISTMAS AS A CHILD by Liverpool broadcasting legend Billy Butler Christmas on its way and oh to be child again….
T
he chimney featured strongly in the run up to Christmas, after all that’s where Santa made his entrance and was the place where by some kind of magic,if you wrote your list of presents on a piece of paper and threw it up the chimney... It would magically land on Santa’s desk at the North Pole ! And if you misbehaved your mum would shout up the chimney Father Christmas—he’s being naughty again and time after time I would ask her to shout up the chimney I was sorry and wouldn’t be naughty again. Carol singing was away of making extra pocket money and you always new which houses would be generous and those you knew wouldn’t answer the door. We had our own versions of carols “While shepherds washed there socks by night all seated round the tub--a block of sunlight soap came down and
20
they began to scrub and “Good king Wenceslas last looked out on the feast of Stephen, he turned his trousers in side out because his bum was freezing.” We didn’t have wall to wall Xmas adverts on TV then, we picked our presents from the catalogue. Mum would turn to the toys page and say “Tick what you want Father Christmas to bring you. And if he hasn’t got what you asked for he will leave something else.” Mum never left the catalogue lying around in case we looked at the women’s underwear page…..As if! It was murder trying to get to sleep on Christmas Eve. I used to leave a pillar slip at the bottom of the bed for Santa to put the toys in. I would awake in the dark ..couldn’t see anything so I would feel the bottom of the bed with my toe ..yes something hard---a corner of a box or a book..
Billy Butler with Lee Butler
Something that rattled when you moved your foot Out of the bed you would jump and on went the light “MAM HE’S BEEN”went the cry that echoed round the world. Out into the street boys in cowboy and football kits and bus conductor outfits girls in nurses outfits and pushing prams with new dolls in. All because of the wonder of Christmas. Its sad on Xmas day these day no children playing out—they’re all in the house on computer games... How sad. Have a great Christmas first time I haven’t been on radio for Christmas for 48 years !!

anchester Airport’s Runway Visitor Park is hosting its popular annual Christmas tour in December. Set under the wings of the iconic Concorde, guests will be able to enjoy a two course Christmas lunch and a festive drink before an hour-long tour of Concorde.
26
The tour will give guests the chance to sit on the famous seats that were once graced by
celebrities and royalty, and explore the cockpit of this supersonic machine. Each person will receive a commemorative certificate to remind them of their tour as well. If you’re looking to entertain the kids during the Christmas holidays, the park is also offering its popular Flight Academy. The academy gives kids the chance to climb onboard a real aircraft and sit in the cockpit as they learn more
about aviation and flying a plane. They’ll also get the chance to try their hand at being a pilot, cabin crew or air traffic controller in a role play session exploring the many careers at the airport. It will take place on Saturday 28 December. To book tours or purchase gift vouchers – visit www. runwayvisitorpark.co.uk/ aircraft-tours/book-a-tour/

hat a year it has been with some major changes in both my personal life and career – making it one of the happiest years of my life. I can’t wait for 2020 especially now my good friend Lee Kelly has won the contract for LHK Productions to do panto next December at The Atkinson in my hometown of Southport. I couldn’t be happier for Lee after a rather challenging year November also saw my beautiful daughter Melodie turn 14 and coincided with the weekend that her dance school – Adam Brown Dance Company went to the Winter Gardens in Blackpool for the Dream Maker finals – and won the Junior Troupe section and got a 3rd as well ! I can’t praise Adam highly enough for the time and dedication he shows to our kids and it has certainly paid off Obviously with my love of Christmas I couldn’t miss the launch of Otterspool Magical Christmas Adventure – which was a 36
fantastic experience for young and older kids with an LHK panto starring the super talented Lewis Pryor & Mia Molloy, grotto, gingerbread making, ice rink and build a husky like a little Lapland village landed in in Liverpool .. don’t let the kids miss out on this treat www. otterspooladventurecentre. co.uk It was also the month when my good friends Mandy Molby and Claire Gallagher hosted their annual ball at Thornton Hall and this year raised a whopping £190,000 for Variety Children’s Charity! Mandy & Claire work tirelessly throughout the year for a number of charities and their hard work really did pay off for such a
wonderful night brilliantly hosted by Pete Price with fantastic appearances by Marcus Collins and Heather Small and the superstar that he is. With panto coming up I took an afternoon off work to spend at Suites Spa and Hotel to spend some rare time with my boyfriend – who despite my hectic lifestyle has managed to put up with me for over 12 months now – It was a wonderful, relaxing afternoon with a festive afternoon tea, treatments and chilling and just the perfect way to spend some quality time together – would recommend it to anyone! So, all that’s left to say is have a wonderful Christmas and New Year and have the BEST 2020!!!

ITS NOT THE END, ITS JUST THE BEGINNING.
F
or 2019 the end is nigh. Did you use the year to the best of your ability? Did you waste it? Did it fly past you at the speed of lightning? Guess what? It really doesn’t matter right now because its gone! Vanished! Never to return! We beat ourselves up about all the things that we did wrong., that never went to plan, that we didn’t love, that we regret… The truth is really, it doesn’t matter, because its gone. . So lets wrap this year right up now shall we? Lets start with the negative and get it out the way. Reflect. What went wrong? What could you have done better? To me the most important question of all is this….
40
What did you learn from all the negative? Lessons. Real ones. From ANY negativity or adversity that you have had in 2019 you can learn THE MOST important
Email: Themindsetmovement@hotmail.com
www.themindsetmovement.co.uk
lessons. In fact, you learn more from the negative situations in your life than you do from any positives. So get a pen and paper out, and start thinking about what the negative has brought you, and taught you. Remember there is a lesson in everything. Now for the positives. What amazing things have happened in 2019? What things really made you smile? What will you remember forever? AGAIN, back to the lessons. What has the positives of 2019 brought you and taught you? This is all about sitting an thinking, a long reflection. What do you need to let go of? What /Who are you leaving in 2019? The great part to the end of a year is that we get a fresh start, 365 new chances, 365 fresh starts.
Wrap up 2019 and step boldly, proudly and ready for a whole new year. Goodbye 2019, hello 2020.

Craig Phillips’ Monthly D I Y Welc ome Lifes tyle Read ers.. . It’s been another busy month for me with plenty of different projects getting underway across the country. First up I was back doing some more filming with Wagner for Ideal World. I love my ambassador role with the brand and getting behind the camera to demonstrate the benefits of their great paint spraying machines is always fun. November has also seen me journey to Manchester to do some work alongside water company United Utilities. I headed to the city’s Arndale shopping centre where I spent two days giving members of the public tips and advice on how to protect their homes from frozen pipes this winter. It’s an issue that can see many of us caught out so it’s important to be prepared and the brand also gave a number of free goodies away! It was a month of travelling for me and Milton Keynes was another place I visited. I went to the town’s Homebase to give in-store demonstrations on pallet building. For this I
also demonstrated Silverline Tools’ amazing products which are perfect for this type of job. Away from work I also attended a fantastic event at the home of my management company Champions (UK) plc. An official opening of their new digital hub, the event was great fun with a number of famous faces in attendance including William Roache MBE, Sam Bailey, Gail Emms MBE, Matthew Hoggard MBE and Andy Abraham. I’ve worked with Champions for many years and have seen them grow significantly in that time and I wish them continued success in this new chapter of their story. As I’ve been doing a lot of work with pipes this month, I thought it apt to provide a DIY tip about how to box them in. All the best,
Craig
Craig ’s Montlh y Tip
Boxing in pipes Measure and cut your sheets to size using an 18v cordless circular saw. Hold the two sections together so you can drill pilot holes and countersink before screwing together. Now use the same drill driver or an impact screwdriver to drive the 50mm screws into place holding the two sections together. Place your box section into position to check that it fits. You may find when it’s in place the two joining edges of your box section is not quite fitting flush, don’t worry by using a 18v cordless plainer you can simply plain down uneven edges, then finish it off to a nice smooth finished look by using a sheet/orbital sander. Boxing in around pipes on the floor doesn’t always mean you have to fix them down as you may need access to the pipes in the future so you can simply just rest the boxing into place and maybe just hold down with silicon if required.
Things you will need: • 18v circular saw • 18v plainer • 18v drill/driver • Countersink & Drill bits • Tape measure • Materials • MDF/plywood sheets • Screws Craig is the brand ambassador for innovative paint spraying brand Wagner. Supporting a range of industry, trade and DIY customers Wagner use coating technology to provide a range of practical and easy to use products that work on almost every material.
