I live a mindful life, every day is filled with meditation, gratitude

diaries, my kids have vision boards, I believe in the power of the universe and have manifested all sorts. I was badly bullied in work and it knocked my confidence. That’s all gone. I am now organising fashion shows in both Liverpool and Los Angeles this autumn. We can choose to exist in life and go to work, come home and go to bed, or we can live our life and fill it with adventures and opportunities. My husband

says I live in a dream world, best place to be. Have a joyous July!

roxteth Park Farm is a traditional working Victorian Farm set within the grounds of Croxteth Hall and Country Park and was formally owned by the late Lord Sefton's estate. Our Farm was recognised as a Rare Breeds Approved Conservation Centre in 1986 and since then has become one of the leading Conservation Farm Parks in the UK, housing many different species and rare breeds of farm livestock. It has been owned and managed by NSC since 2014. Croxteth Park Farm is the only RBST approved conservation park within the North West of England. KEEPING IT

KEIRA

Keira Knightley is busy. During the film of The Aftermath – the James Kent-directed movie that explores the tensions postwar Germany – the 34-year-old became a mother. Yet rather than taking time off to enjoy her new child, the actress cannot help but strive for more. That’s partly down to a continual flourish of brilliant scripts, but also, as she explains to Lifestyle magazine, she has an inherent fear of slowing down.

G

iven no formal training as an actress, Keira Knightley first came to the fore in 2002’s Bend It Like Beckham, and after completing her studies in English Literature and Political History, further roles – in the likes of Love Actually, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and Pride and Prejudice (for which she earned Best Actress nominations at the Golden Globes and the Academy Awards in 2006) saw her installed as one of the UK’s finest acting exports.

10

That she has held on to that status for such a prolonged period of time is pure and simply down to the stability with which she lives her life. There is no drama, no late-night paparazzi shots, no salacious gossip, and certainly, where family matters are concerned, a large slice of privacy. “In work and at home, I am usually very school mummy about the way things happen,” she says. “I want things to be very straight, very specific, very exact. So, there has to be a planned sequence of

events at exact times… on a film that could be like a kiss there and then onto the next thing. At home that could be shopping and then returning home by a certain hour.“ “I think it’s that kind of reliance on a schedule that keeps me feeling as if I am in control, even when sometimes I’m clearly not,” she laughs.” Knightley, married to former Klaxons keyboardist James Righton, also insists on keeping her acting as fresh as it is regular. After a five-year period during which she re-trod the stage in the West End whilst embarking on independent film projects, Knightley returned revived and ready to reinvent, yet always

with the same drive and determination as before.

or just hide. Either one I think works.”

time. What I’m saying is we have to be careful.”

That the actress has the courage to throw herself into awkward, uncomfortable or unfamiliar situations is undoubtedly down to an upbringing in and around the theatre which helped her confidence flourish.

Of course, Knightley isn’t entirely without controversy. towards the end of 2018, she courted headlines by admitting she won’t allow her three-yearold daughter Edie to watch certain Disney classics because of the negative perceptions they carry towards female characters. Knightley suggested Cinderella was a poor role model for a girl in the sense of waiting around to be rescued by a rich guy; while The Little Mermaid promoted the notion that a female voice should be given up for that of a man.

The family live in an elegant Islington townhouse, and Knightley has gradually moved away from what previously was a much more staunchlike position on privacy, whereby even her daughter’s name wasn’t revealed until three months after her arrival in August 2015.

“My dad was always working in theatres so I spent a lot of my time backstage,” she says. “It’s clear that’s where I got my acting education from, and I’m really grateful now for what, at the time, seemed like hours and hours just hanging about, doing homework whilst waiting for my parents to take me home.” “I look back on it now and it was an incredible insight into a world not many people get to experience. It certainly gave me the strength and confidence to know what goes on in that world, and how best to handle the pressure.” And on those occasions when nerves do get the better of the Londonborn star, there is another failsafe she turns to. “I am a very bad giggler and I giggle a lot in awkward situations, which isn’t necessarily the best thing to do. But that kind of awkwardness makes me laugh in a really hysterical, awful way. I either do that

“There is always a conversation about the type of media Edie consumes,” says Knightley, “and actually I think that’s something that goes on everywhere, so I’m not alone.” “We all want to give our children positive influences to draw upon. The good stuff isn’t restricted to just Disney, and nor is the bad, but the reason I raised those characters was as a starting point to highlight how open our children are these days to everything that’s going on in the world.“ “Their connectively is something no current parent experienced as a child, so in that sense we are all learning at the same

“I think there is a real process at first that means you have to do everything at your own speed,” she says. “In those days and weeks and months after birth there is lots of recovery in there, not least when it comes to your own body. You are proud, relieved, healing, and yet there is a new challenge at every corner – it is tough and I am glad I called it at the speed I did.” Now revving up for another busy few months of film projects, Knightley appears in Berlin, I Love You, a slow-burner of a romantic drama, before rounding the year off late-summer with Katharine Gun in espionage drama Official Secrets. “A lot has happened over the past few years for me, but the greatest thrill I ever have is the one for looking forward, not backwards, and for myself and for my family, I can’t wait to see what’s up next.”

The musical, written and directed by Ian McFarlane to celebrate the theatre’s 125th anniversary, is based on Jules Verne’s acclaimed novel cleverly combined with hits from the 80’s for a showstopping performance. It tells the tale of gentleman adventurer, Phileas Fogg, and his valet Passepartout, racing against time all mashed up with 80s chart toppers such as Human League, Pet Shop Boys and Survivor. Writer and Director Ian McFarlane said: “We’ve started working in the rehearsal room and we are having the best time. The cast are seriously funny, it’s hard to get through a scene without someone laughing hysterically!” “Hearing the cast sing these songs in rehearsals is thrilling. I think people are going to be blown away.” Andrew Howard, Marketing Manager at the Blackpool Grand Theatre

said: “It’s an incredibly exciting time, seeing this new musical come together and has us all excited to see the opening. Ian and the cast have come together so well, and the cast can’t wait to get on stage.” “This will be a first for Blackpool’s Grand, producing its first big musical, with the premier being this summer – a real treat for Blackpool.” "The show is part of a collection of incredible performances for the theatre's 125th Anniversary, including the opening of the 2019 tour for spinechilling thriller The Woman In Black, and for our birthday week (22-27 July) Agatha Christie’s iconic The Mousetrap. It’s an exciting year!” Around The World in 80’s Days is proving a firm favourite with the box office too, with tickets sales surpassing expectations so early on. DOLLY PARTON

IMPERSONATOR LIVERPOOL THIS AUGUST

F

ive years after Dolly Parton wowed Liverpool audiences with her 5* show in 2014, Sarah Jayne Crust, “Europe’s Leading Dolly Parton Impersonator”, as stated by Kenny Rogers, will take to the stage at the M&S Bank Arena’s Auditorium in August with her show Country Superstars – Dolly Parton and Friends. Looking ahead to the show, Sarah Jane said “I’m really forward to playing Liverpool again, it’s such a fantastic city, and to know that Dolly has played under the same roof is such an honour and something I’m really looking forward to. Liverpool is such a great place to play, everyone is so friendly and they really appreciate Country Music.”

20

Due to Sarah Jayne’s popularity she was asked at the behest of Dolly Parton herself to play for VIP Guests on two of Dolly’s own World Tours. She was then used by Dolly’s security team as a decoy to detract the audience’s attention while Dolly got into position to make her stage entrance. Sarah Jayne’s tribute to the country star includes some of Dolly’s biggest hits such as 9to5, Jolene, Coat of Many Colours, Love Is Like a Butterfly, I Will Always Love You and Islands in the Stream. She said: “This truly unique show is hosted by me as the Queen of Country - Dolly Parton. Andy and I together

with our Tennessee Allstars Band will take you on a journey back through time meeting some of the most influential icons who shaped Country music history. The show features Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, Billie Jo Spears, Kenny Rogers, Shania Twain, Willie Nelson, Tammy Wynette, Garth Brooks, John Denver and Glen Campbell. She went on to say “Andy and I are affiliates of the Dolly Parton Imagination Library children’s charity, and are so proud the tour supports this charity which helps children all around the world – there’s a branch of the DPIL in Mossley Hill, Liverpool.”

ummer’s well and truly underway and I am still getting the maxi dresses in and out the space bags from under the bed with this weather hoping the sun will keep his hat on rather than spending the day walking round in squelchy sandals! It has been another busy month, the highlight being a date with Hugh Jackman – sadly I failed to mention along with 10,000 others but his one man show in Manchester made me fall in love with the all singing, all dancing (and sadly wife adoring!) Hugh more than ever! It was also fantastic to host the Rock n Roll Marathon for the 6th year running with the fab Graeme White and Brian Porter – we have seen this event grow over the years and such a tribute to our wonderful city knowing that the organisers from America choose one City in England which is of course Liverpool.. and they will be back next year for what is one of the best events of the year in Liverpool

24

superbly organised by Dean, Stacey and the team – they are almost like family now! I have had the pleasure of working Drew and Mike from Owen Drew candles and I hosted their perfume launch in The Chester Grosvenor. We raised £5500 for The Hospice of the Good Shepher. This month also saw our annual work day out from Radio City – this year… to Amsterdam!!! Despite a 2am start it was a truly fantastic day and I consider myself blessed to work with such a wonderful team of people who are actually more friends than colleagues! We are so lucky with so many exciting places opening up in Liverpool and the launch of the new Roxy Ballroom certainly didn’t disappoint! From Crazy Golf and bowling to beer pong – I don’t think I stopped laughing Finally I was lucky enough to host the warm up stage for Jon Bon Jovi with Greatest Hits Radio Rick Houghton .. the sun was

shining and Bon Jovi went down like a Blaze of Glory !!!

TOP FEMALE BREAST CANCER RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGEON, Victoria Rose outlines some of the points women could benefit from considering, in terms of breast reconstruction following cancer. Women are also not clear when they should decide on reconstructive routes and who they should go to for advice. What are the different reconstruction processes available for women and what are their pros and cons? Broadly speaking, women can have either implantbased reconstructions or autologous (using your own tissue) reconstructions. Autologous reconstructions use your tummy, buttocks or thighs to make a new breast. They are aesthetically superior to implant reconstructions as it is like for like, but you have to have enough tissue to spare. They also last forever so once symmetry is achieved that’s it. They will change and age in-line with the rest of your body. The downside is these procedures leave visible scars from where the tissue is borrowed. They also take slightly longer in terms of operative time and recovery time. 26

Implants are quicker and leave no extra scars. They don’t replace like for like though and they often need further adjustments to maintain symmetry. They are not great if you have to have radiotherapy as they tend to go hard and need changing. There is a very small risk of implant associated breast cancer with these types of reconstructions. Is there anything to bear in mind when considering reconstruction? Is it best to have it after a certain amount of time has passed? How can I decide whether reconstruction is right for me or whether I can accept my scars? We do know that psychological well-being is improved by having your reconstruction at the same time as your mastectomy - so we always try to offer this in the NHS if we can. The surgeons and breast care

nurses can help you with reconstruction choices and will be able to answer all your questions. If you opt not to have reconstructive surgery you can always opt back in to have it at a later date if you change your mind. What things do women find most difficult when approaching reconstruction and how can they manage these elements? Timing is probably the most difficult element. Being told you have breast cancer is hard enough but to then have to make choices on what type of excision, whether chemotherapy and radiotherapy are advisable as well as what type of reconstruction can be very stressful. There are really no right or wrong decisions. Everything needs to be tailored to what suits the individual at that specific point in time. The rush is to remove the cancer and if reconstruction needs to wait the outcomes can still be exceptionally good they just take a little longer to attain.

H EALTH REVEALED: anxiety linked to gut bacteria People who experience anxiety symptoms might be helped by taking steps to regulate the microorganisms in their gut using probiotic and non-probiotic food and supplements, suggests a new review of 21 studies.* “Scientists call the gut the ‘second brain’ because it is filled with neurotransmitters we usually associate with being in the brain. It has its own complex nervous system and also, just like your brain, produces serotonin, the ‘feel good’ neurotransmitter. Our brain and gut are therefore intimately connected and that’s why they can affect each other so much – for example, anxiety gives most people butterflies in the stomach,” explains the UK’s leading Nutritionist, Dr Marilyn Glenville (www.glenvillenutrition.com). Therefore it makes complete sense to take into account our second brain, the gut, when it comes to our mental wellbeing and our experts are here to explain how we can do this… Add a probiotic to your diet Of the studies that had used probiotics as the intervention, more than a third (36%) found them to be effective in reducing anxiety symptoms. Top Tip: Unlock Whole-Body Vitality with the Natures Plus GI Natural capsules (£23.75, w w w. r e v i t a l . c o . u k) c o n t a i n probiotics as well as digestive enzymes, prebiotics and whole foods to support your gut health and second brain.

The long term goal The remaining studies that had used non-probiotics and changed their diets, found an amazing 86% rate of effectiveness in reducing anxiety symptoms. Marilyn Glenville states, “all the food and drink that goes through your mouth has an effect on your body and mind. It will strengthen or weaken you; help or hinder; nourish or deplete. Food need not be your enemy – the right form is a valuable source.” Changing your diet altogether will have more of an impact on your gut Microbiome as a whole in comparison to introducing specific types of bacteria in a probiotic supplement – perhaps a combo of the both is the winner! For ways to change your diet for your body and mind get your hands on Marilyn’s latest book, Natural Alternatives to Dieting (£9.97, Amazon).

Change your response to the cause of anxiety We can control how we respond to things we find challenging in our day-to-day life, so if you’re experiencing any of the following symptoms of anxiety; “Anxiety can be experienced as a racing mind, an inability to slow down, feeling out of control with our thoughts or trouble staying on track and focusing. It can show up in our body as muscular tension, pain, jitteriness and difficulty relaxing. It affects our breathing, making it short, tight and held in the chest which has other knock on effects for mood, mental health, the nervous system and cardiac health. Anxiety can also diminish our mood and energy levels, it can make us more prone to anger and reactivity, teariness and emotional sensitivity for some,” explains qualified psychologist, yoga teacher and health & fitness coach, Suzy Reading, working with ThinkWell-LiveWell. The Postcard to Anxiety module on the new mindfulness toolkit, ThinkWell LiveWell (RRP: £8.00 a month), can help you become aware and change your response to the cause of anxiety.

Flights to Corfu from Liverpool John Lennon Airport started on 2nd June 2019 and is sure to be a popular summer destination. Ryanair are running a twice weekly service to the popular Ionian island. Here are LJLA’s top three recommendations on what you should do when you get to Corfu! Stroll through Corfu Town. The capital of the island is home to ancient and historical cobbled streets, with areas of Corfu Town dating back to 8th Century BC. Corfu Town is also known as Kerkyra and sits halfway down the islands’ East Coast. The capital lies between two twin hills that are topped with a Venetian fortress each, a glance to the east fortress or a look to the one in the west will remind all travellers of the historical value of the beautiful holiday spot. The Old Town is filled with restaurants serving fresh Greek cuisine, lively bars and shops you could spend hours in. It is also home to stunning architecture, including over 39 churches and the

32

interesting Liston Arcade. Dive in the clear waters. Home to some of the best diving spots in Greece; you have the opportunity to discover sea caves, explore shipwrecks and investigate colourful fish moving through the soft coral. Don’t worry if you’re not an experienced diver, there are plenty of classes across the island available for you to attend that are approved by the Professional Association of Diving Instructors. Relax on the Corfu’s beaches. In Corfu the summer days have consistent clear blue skies and have an average of 3000 hours of sun a year, with June to September reaching a scorching 31 degrees. The island is ideal for anyone who simply wants to bask in the warm sun. ‘Voutoumi Beach’ in ‘Antipaxos’ is a visitor favourite due to it’s sandy shore being the biggest appeal. ‘Porto Timoni Beach’ is another that is

regularly added to visitors ‘to do’ list because of its proximity to the quaint village of ‘Afionas’ which allows great views of the secluded and quaint beach from tavernas and restaurants There is plenty of exciting things to see and enjoy in Corfu, such as visiting the ‘Paleokastritsa Monastery’, strolling through the traditional ‘Corfiot Town’ and exploring ancient fortresses across the island. A day could even be spent in the shade at the ‘Achilleion palace museum and gardens’ ideal if you ever needed a break from the sunshine. A great way to end the day in Corfu would be to embrace the sights of the natural landscapes of the island, especially looking out to the surrounding Adriatic Sea to watch the colourful and picturesque sunset of an evening. indfulness, meditation and movement in the summer months is a great way to stay grounded and focused for the lazy summer afternoons. In Britain we tend to go straight to the pub on a bender with the first sight of sunshine because we just want to have some fun ... but then we end up feeling groggy and lethargic for days or weeks afterwards. It’s also a time we put weight on as we allow ourselves “a treat” when or if we go on holiday. Come September we are back at the gym and on cabbage soup diets ready for Christmas. So if we are all in the summer party, festival season where does mindfulness, meditation and movement come in to it? We can allow ourselves to get in to the rhythm of nature and summer by getting outside and walking out into the countryside taking in all the wonderful plethora of greenery available at this time of year, the smell of the sweet scents of the

flowers at their peak -the oxeye daisies on of my favs, they actually glow in the moonlight , listening out to the birdsongs and bees busy working as all the fruit is now ripe for picking. Why not have a picnic and create a rainbow feast of different coloured fruit and veg as well as the traditional sandwiches

and cakes. There is an abundance of the first harvest at the beginning of August marks all the hard work of the winter and spring months coming into fruition. Maybe you too feel you have been working very hard that you need a break. Walking in parks surrounded by trees help you feel grounded. Taking a seat under a tree can help.

Trees are the lungs of the planet, so by sitting under one with your back leaning against the trunk this will help you feel supported. A meditation to do is to close your eyes and breathing in and out , letting your mind feel still , even though the park will be alive bring yourself in to the here and now with the intention to just relax against the tree and have some time out so you refocus and get clear. It’s also beneficial to move and stretch the body rather than skipping your exercise routine. Take advantage of outdoor yoga festivals and classes while the weather’s mild. There’s also a sense of satisfaction having achieved this and that stays with you in to the rest of the year. So enjoy yourself, have lots of fun and keep the balance of mindfulness, meditation and movement.

’m all about the summer vibes, the light nights, the sunshine, open windows, air dried sheets. When the sun is shining or its light outside, and your body is absorbing light, our brains release a happy hormone called serotonin. Serotonin, although it’s known as the happy hormone, is responsible for many things including social behaviour, sleep, memory, sex drive, digestion, it’s a good allrounder. We naturally feel better when the sun is out. The benefits of all this serotonin action are feeling calmer, more motivated, happier, more in love, more energetic, and more fun. Serotonin is amazing for your mental health, for your mood, your physical health....everything!! Sounds good right? So what can you do to help serotonin out? How can you get some happiness flowing? Get outside.

38

It really is just as simple as making a conscious effort to be outdoors more. Something as simple as having a door or some windows open. Take a walk. Even just leaving the car at home on the school or commute and walking. Summer means being more social. Gardens, bbs, literally social interaction is everywhere and being outside gives us the chance to bring ourselves outside for more fun, social interaction and memories. Research even shows we make better food choices and sleep choices when its summer time too! So get outside, Breathe in that gorgeous air.

Start walking, sit outside with your morning coffee, walk your dog an extra time! Be responsible for your happy summer release. We have these gorgeous long days and light nights. The summer nights are coming so make the most amazing use of all that free happy hormone. Let the sunshine in. Happy Summer!

It doesn’t have to be 80 degrees outside for the hormone to be released. Bright dayLight has the same effect. Being outside is proven to to reduce stress and lift mental health.

Our body and mind needs 52 different vitamins and minerals every day to survive and work to its optimum. Our cells need complete nourishment and without the right fats, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, the 10 trillion cells in the body cannot perform Everything starts at cellular level, cells make tissue, tissue makes organs, organs make systems and our systems make who we are and give us our best version of ourselves, are you the best version of yourself right now?, could you be functioning better physically or emotionally?, the answer is probably yes. How were formed today equals how we function tomorrow and I had to practice what I preached every day, “When we water a plant we water the root not the leaves, balance starts within”, this could not be more true. If our body does not have a substantial amount of nutrients in it

will not perform it is as simple as that, and today with everything so rushed, fast food, convenient ways of living our nervous system cannot handle the stress so the absorption of nutrients are impaired and performance is jeopardised. The mineral content of the soil today, compared to 100 years ago is 75% less and unless we are growing our own food, sprinkling the soil with magnesium ourselves then we are not getting enough nutrients. Many foods are preserved for long haul flights, kept in cold storage for months or even genetically modified to make them look pretty. Lifestyle stress affects us all, hormones especially as the endocrine and

THE MURDER CAPITAL, ‘WHEN I HAVE FEARS’ I f you have ever seen The Murder Capital live then what will strike you most about the experience is not the heaviness, the bleakness or the rage you might expect, but witnessing a most extreme vision of tenderness. Their debut album, ‘When I Have Fears’, recorded over the Spring with Flood (PJ Harvey, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, New Order etc.), embodies this tenderness; it is a purple bruise on the hard knee of the so-called postpunk resurgence. It is not a labour of love but a struggle through love, loneliness and grief that now sits weightless upon their five shoulders, not marching, but dancing, out into the cold light of day. The debut album from that dark, twisted Dublin quintet, The Murder Capital, is in all its boyish innocence and vulnerability, a coming of age album. This relationship between pain and freedom is an important one. The suicide of a close friend led not only to the birth of the 40

band’s name but to the philosophy of the entire record, “every single one of those lyrics relates back in some way to his death”. Discovering the work of photographer Francesca Woodman who took her own life at 22, was also a significant touch point. “The biggest impression her work left on us was relating to the loneliness of her photos. That sense of being completely on your own, but also taking solace in the beauty of the work as well. I think we’d be lying if we ever truly admitted to ourselves that we weren’t afraid of dying young. I think we push the boundaries at times.

THE MURDER CAPITAL ARE: Vocals - James McGovern Guitars - Damien Tuit Guitars - Cathal Roper Bass - Gabriel Paschal Blake Drums - Diarmuid Brennan

There’s something about Francesca Woodman’s work that just takes control of that.” Listening to Green and Blue, a track written immediately after discovering her work, you can hear that isolation as each instrument seems to exist entirely in a world of it’s own- so self aware. Lyrically too, its completely subjective. It's a song that can see only out of your eyes, it blurs the background and draws a thick black outline around the iris, gothic and indulgent. They will perform at The Arts Club in Liverpool on 25 July.

he average BBQ indulgence amounts to 3,078 calories, 1000 calories more than the recommend daily allowance for a woman.

a BBQ celebration. This is without taking into consideration multiple sides, sauces and the ice cream that often follows for dessert.

Recent findings by diet expert Terri-Ann Nunns, founder of Terri-Ann’s Diet Plans, show that the average person will consume 3,078 calories at a BBQ - well over the daily recommended calorie intake for women and men. This is based on eating: • One burger & bun with cheese: 533 calories • Two hot dogs with buns: 678 calories • Two chicken drumsticks: 422 calories • A corn on the cob: 110 calories • Two pork ribs: 492 calories • Baked potato: 93 calories • Two ciders: 550 calories • Two gin and tonics: 200 calories

Terri-Ann Nunns, said: ‘BBQs are a great way to socialise with family and friends, especially if the sun is shining, but they can have a big impact on your diet if you over indulge. By following some really simple steps, you can be sure you stay on track with your weight loss journey and still enjoy a BBQ in the sun.’

The above may seem extravagant, but the reality is that it’s easily done at

Tips to stay on track at BBQs: 1) Ditch the bread: Burgers and hot dogs all come accompanied with some form of bread roll. Bread is a starchy carb which makes you feel full and often bloated. 2) Go easy on the dressings: Mayonnaise has a shocking 94 calories per tbsp, ranch dressing has 73 and salad cream has 50. If you do like a dressing with your food, opt for BBQ sauce with just 29 calories per tbsp, ketchup which

has 19 or sweet chilli sauce which has just 15. 3) Go homemade: If you have time, make your own dips so that you can be sure there’s no unwanted calories. 4) Cut back on the booze: of course enjoying a tipple at a BBQ is all part of the fun, but try to avoid binge drinking as this can instantly rack up your calorie intake. 5) Stop snacking: BBQ’s tend to involve a lot of mindless eating and grazing - we eat because the food is in front of us, not because we’re hungry. Try to sit away from the food to avoid yourself unnecessarily picking at the snacks. 6) Eat slowly: Eat mindfully and slowly, ensuring you chew your food and take breaks in between eating. Cra ig’ s Mon tlhy Tip

Hello Lifestyle readers,

How to change or fit an internal door handle

June hasn’t really given us the BBQ weather we were all hoping for has it? But the rain hasn’t dampened my spirits and I have been out and about doing lots this past month.

Changing door handles is a quick and easy task which can give a modernised look to your internal doors. The new look can be achieved within five minutes, unless you’re fitting handles to a new door in which case allow for 15 minutes.

I was lucky to be invited along to Windsor Castle with Frenchic to help them host their second annual convention at the iconic royal residence. As you all know, I am a proud ambassador for the furniture paint brand and a big part of that is getting involved in their product launches, demos and other events. More than 200 people turned out for the convention where we launched four new limitededition paint colours and put them to use. Next year may seem like a long way off right now, but when it comes to shooting videos, we have to be thinking ahead of time. So a lot of my time in June was spent filming a series of ‘how-to’ videos with Silverline Tools which will be released at the start of 2020. This time there was little travelling involved as we shot the footage in Liverpool! The camera action continued with Wagner throughout the month too as I continued my video work with them for the Ideal World channel. Laura and I also enjoyed a trip out to the Etihad Stadium to see Spice Girls in concert. Now, I bet you didn’t have me down as a fan did you? But their music is extremely nostalgic and the stadium had such an exciting atmosphere.

If you’re just changing the existing handles, begin by unscrewing all four screws from each handle on both sides of the door using your cordless screwdriver. Leave the centre “square bar” inside the door and latch. Simply reposition your new handles onto both sides of the door and re-screw using the same holes from the original screws, tighten firmly into position. To fit handles from scratch into a new door you will need to use your door handle set as a stencil to mark up the holes with a pencil. Drill out the centre hole on the edge of the door for the latch using your cordless drill and a 22mm spade drill bit. Mark up and drill two 14mm holes on both sides of the door where the square bar will slide through and allow you to now put the handles in place. Finally, simply drive in all four screws through the new handles and two screws into the latch, holding them firmly into position.

Hopefully when I check back in with you all next month, the sun will have made its return All the best, Things you will need:

Nick Woodward, CEO of ETZ Payments said: “It is startling to see the sheer number of middle-class British workers who are having to leave freelance work due to the ongoing stress of chasing invoices. It should be a norm that in today’s workplace, with modern technology, that freelance workers should be able to complete a job and be paid for it on either the same or next day.”
