Bernadette McDonald, of BMD:Law Tell us about your legal school? We’ve
opened the Liverpool School of Legal Education because the whole way we train solicitors has changed. The law degree and LPC has gone, so paralegals can now qualify and there’s a Solicitor’s Qualification exam so it’s more hands on with two years of experience as opposed to seven years of qualifications. This has given us a bit more of an opportunity to be innovative. We’ve trial runned the school with the courts to see what works and what doesn’t, so we’ll be taking people from school leaving age and turning them into paralegals with 12 week courses, we’re supporting people who are already working as paralegals in law firms going for a SQA contract because they won’t be given any training, it’s just for them to acquire experience. Acquiring experience is easy but recognising 2
what you’re learning from a formal point of view and document it, that is different, so we’ll be offering courses to support that. We have a mixture of online and in person courses based at our premises here and of course using the law firm here as a way of getting practical experience so it blends the both. And to ensure I have enough work to give them I am very excited too do something that I’ve waited to do for years which is pro bono business clinics for small businesses who don’t want to waste their money on law firms in the beginning because they need all their resources. So we’ll be using the students to give them advice, supervised of course, for all new businesses. This means a lot as I want to give back to the business community.
I am taking the best of law and best of business to combine it to improve the future of legal professions. I’ve invested quite heavily in the tech, so it’s not just lectures, there’s a lot of videos and handouts and interactive learning, quizzes, to mix it up to keep people engaged. I wrote all the courses, spending the last few months taking the design of business philosophy how we design law firms itself and integrate them into a very legal way of thinking. So I have taken a lot of different concepts and places and put them all together for a very bespoke course.

Hello February February is here and it is the month of romance and I am in love with life!
When you have passion for what you do everyday it never feels like work and I am so lucky to have a job I love. It is so lovely that I get to meet so many wonderful people everyday. I’ve met so many wonderful people really putting their business back together after the pandemic lockdown. And that’s why Lifestyle magazine is so important supporting small businesses.
People are turning away from digital advertising, you don’t know who’s seeing your facebook and instagram boosted posts, many are swiping it off their screens. But with print advertising you have longevity. With magazines left lying around business receptions for weeks, even months, and with people
chasing to pick up the magazine to read it, you’re guaranteed a response. Whatever you’re up to this month, make sure you do it with a good heart. I’ve been reading quite a few self help books recently as it is so important to try and be a better person. One thing resonated with me, after going through a particularly challenging time and wondering which direction to turn in, the advice I read was that chaos is put in front of you not to make you sad, but to make you grow. Chaos brings uncertainty and this brings a new momentum to challenge you. In order to improve your life you need to step out of your comfort zone and allow things not to go to plan. Approach the uncertainty as an opportunity to be seized, as scary as it might be, but the

NEWS
A Liverpoolbased residential Architecture firm has become one of the first in the North West to offer Virtual Reality design services to homeowners in the UK.
H
ouse Architects, led by Architect Catherine Traynor, is using Virtual Reality (VR) technology to show homeowners what their house extensions will look like once built. The decision to introduce VR came to Catherine during lockdown last year, when she decided they needed to quickly innovate and continue to provide quality services. Catherine explained, “It can be really hard for people to visualise what their house extension will look like once it’s finished, from just a hand drawn plan.
6
There is so much technology available now but I found that there aren’t many Architects
firms offering this at a realistic price for domestic homeowners. I really wanted to be able to offer an affordable version of this to my clients, so that’s what I’ve done.” “Virtual reality is changing the way architects design spaces today, and it’s really exciting for homeowners to actually be able to see what their refurbished home is going to look like, even before a spade has gone in the ground. From my point of view as an architect and designer it’s really rewarding to see people’s reactions when they put the VR headset on and see their new home.
The first thing most people say is “Wow!”” Since 2013 award-winning Architect Catherine, a Liverpool local and JMU Alumni, has designed over 100 extensions, with clients requesting her services from as far afield as Glasgow, Newcastle and Leeds. House Architects provide free online consultations to homeowners looking to extend. For more information or to schedule a consultation with House Architects, go to www. house-architects.co.uk or email catherine@housearchitects.co.uk.
EST
E NORTH W TH IN S LK A W TE O M RE ST THE BE The North West may be better known for its large industrial towns and cities, but this region is surprisingly rich with natural beauty spots, rolling hills and serene views.
Runcorn Hill Park - Runcorn
Located right in the heart of the town of Runcorn, it is hard to believe that such a natural beauty spot can exist so close to an urban location. If you appreciate a little peace and quiet on your walks, do not let the central location of Runcorn Hill Park put you off. Hilltop views of Runcorn’s stretching greenery and the ruins of Halton Castle are all yours for the taking.
Ainsdale and Birkdale Sandhills - Southport Southport offers a different kind of hiking experience,
Lyme Park - Stockport Who would have thought a National Trust site, featuring a grand Elizabethan-era mansion with a large estate could be found so close to the town of Stockport? The stunning Lyme Park is located just south of Disley in Cheshire, just a 25-minute drive from Stockport. Not only do the formal gardens take minimum effort to walk around on
foot, but the very same grounds were used to shoot scenes from a BBC adaptation of Pride & Prejudice, making Lyme Park the ideal place to take a romantic stroll with your partner. To add to the site’s overwhelming sense of beauty, the grounds also feature a deer park, as well as being home to some highland cows.
As well as the sandhills, there is a nature trail to explore which is home to some rare and interesting species of plants and animals including lots of wild rabbits. with stretching sand dunes, spacious beaches and views of the Irish sea replacing the muddy footpaths and rocky mountains you may find elsewhere.
This fun day out for the whole family is easily accessible from most major towns and cities in the North West, with regular transport links from Manchester, Liverpool, Bolton and Wigan. 7
FASHION
Lifestyle chats to fashion designer
Taya Hughes What is your background? The first
thing I went to study at The College of North West London was Electrical Engineering. From then I moved onto to study Accounting. I have an AAT Qualification, then I did Makeup artistry and finally Fashion.
How did you get into fashion designing?
I’ve always had a love of fashion from a very young age. I owned my first sewing machine at the age of 5. I watched my grandmother sewing from around that age too. Growing up, my mum
always had a sewing machine around the house. As an adult life happened and I decided to study Art, Fashion and Design at Liverpool Community College based in the Arts Centre. Its the best decision I ever made, that’s what has led me to where I am today.
What is your signature style? My signature style
is experimental, elegant and sophisticated in a whimsical fashion.
Tell us about your boutique? The purpose of our brand new Seven Streets Boutique is to boost the self confidence of our customers by giving them access to exclusive collections created by local designers including myself

What do you envisage for your business over the next 12 months?
Over the next 12 months we want to create brand awareness both online and offline. We hope to be the go to destination for something unique and exclusive.
Did the pandemic cause any problems with your business start up? Yes, the
pandemic further delayed the start up of Seven Streets. The shop needed a lot of work and even getting building materials during the pandemic was a challenge.
What advice would you give to anyone wanting to start off in the fashion industry?
Believe in yourself, decide what it is you want to
be, put your vision down on paper and don’t stop working towards it no matter how slow it may seem, even when it looks like nothing is happening keep working, it will pay off.
What other designers do you work with?
I have a list of 22 designers I will be working with. Some of the designers are start ups and some well established, most working according to seasons and strict deadlines. No matter how big we get in the future there will always be room for local designers on our rails right next to Vivienne Westwood, Burberry, Alexander McQueen or any other big British brands we may stock in the future. I absolutely must recommend the cured meats with teriyaki greens. Absolutely delicious!! And the pan friend seabags, oh my goodness, it hardly stayed in the platter once served! Be My Baby
“Be My Baby” by The Ronettes, regularly features in the Spotify request playlists that couples provide me with ahead of their wedding. The 1963 girl group anthem, with its unmistakeable drum beat intro, is a work of genius in its own right. However, its continued popularity with subsequent generations is due in no small part to its prominent place on the soundtrack to one of the most popular chick flicks of all time; Dirty Dancing. Sadly, in January, we lost iconic lead singer, the beautiful Ronnie Spector to cancer at the age of 78. 16
Ronnie Spector
Born; Veronica Yvette Bennett in 1943, Ronnie, is often referred to as the original bad girl of rock and roll. She was a major influence on the writing and personal styling tastes of Amy Winehouse, particularly on her album, Back To Black. She formed The Ronettes with her sister Estelle and their cousin, Nedra, in the late 50s and signed to Phil Spector’s record label. They enjoyed worldwide success in the 60s with a string of hits produced by the notorious, psychopathic, gunobsessed, recording genius, Spector, who Ronnie would first have an affair with and eventually marry … after he divorced his wife. Ronnie’s experience of psychological torture and emotional abuse while in her relationship with Spector are detailed in her memoir “Be My Baby, How I Survived Mascara, Miniskirts and Madness,
Or, My Life As A Fabulous Ronette.’ An example of which is how Spector wouldn’t let her to sing with The Ronettes when they opened for The Beatles on their 1966 US tour, bringing in her cousin, Elaine, instead, and prohibiting her from singing and performing altogether following their marriage in 1968. The couple separated in 1972 after Ronnie fled their mansion with the help of her mother, barefoot and without any belongings. In September 2020 it was announced that Zendaya would play Ronnie in the biopic of her memoir. Despite objections from Phil Spector, who was awaiting trial for murder (he would eventually be found guilty and die in prison) the Ronettes were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2007.

DRIVING
TOP TEN MOST COMMON CAR DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHTS Battery warning light An illuminated battery light could be due to a number of issues, including: A loose or corroded battery cable. A problem with the alternator or voltage regulator. Damaged cells or plates inside the battery.
Engine temperature warning light - When the coolant temperature warning light goes on, the engine is seriously overheated, which can be caused by overheating, lack of cooling water or a cooling system that is having trouble.
Brake warning light - When this light comes on, it means one of two things. Either the hydraulic fluid (brake fluid) in the master cylinder is low, or the parking brake is engaged. If the system springs a leak, the fluid level will drop. A leak can cause your brakes to fail.
Engine management light - The light is connected to your car's engine control unit (ECU), and is the first indicator of issues with the engine's electronic network and indicates there could be a problem if the light stays on when you turn the ignition.
Engine oil warning light - If the oil light comes on while you are driving, get to a safe place and turn the engine off immediately. It is important to stop driving your vehicle because you may have run out of oil.
Brakepad warning light - The brake pads are getting low. Without any pad material, the brakes won't stop the car as quickly so waiting too long is dangerous and increases the risks of getting into a collision.
Low pressure tyre warning light - Indicates low pressure in the tyres. If the pressure is extremely low, it does become dangerous to drive, especially at high speeds. Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) warning light - The ABS on a vehicle prevents the wheels from locking up when a driver slams on the brake pedal in an emergency situation or on a wet or slippery surface and when it is lit, this indicates a problem that needs looking at. Airbag warning light There may be an issue with a crash sensor, SRS module, or other airbag component. This is important to get checked out as quickly as possible. Power steering warning light - In hydraulic power steering systems, a leak in the system causing a low fluid level is the most common cause for this problem. The cause may vary according to the type of power steering system in your car.

Yin Season – Traditional East Asian Therapies – Relaxation Season
T
he YIN season is the WINTER season & the Water Element in Traditional East Asian Medicine. It is all about storage and nourishment. Although we have indulged at Christmas and want to desperately shed that “extra few pounds”, we must avoid eating & drinking too much raw, cold juices / foods, and embrace this time to “RELAX & HIBERNATE” until we are ready to “Sprout into Spring”, the animals in this season have got it right. In Autumn, the leaves/ seeds fall off the trees & settle into the ground & all is quiet, come spring, their ready again to bloom, relying on the element of the sunshine, and warmer climate – THIS IS ALSO US!!! We still do need to exercise – but not too intense, and we need to support our kidneys which is the organ related to this element & season, by eating & drinking warming foods & fluids, such as
soups, broths & herbal teas. The kidneys do not like to be cold, and if we put too much pressure on our organs in the WATER element, then the next season which is Spring, the WOOD element, can result in higher stress levels, an over worked Liver which can result in anger and irritability, and joint pain, because each season has its own element, organ relation, tissue of the body, emotion & food relation, & this is a part of the 5 EELEMENT CYCLE & “Mother & Son Relationship”, for example the Water element which is the Mother, nurtures the
Son Element, which is the Liver. HEALTHY TIPS – In the YIN Winter Season, avoid eating cooling foods like salads or unseasonable fruits and vegetables like celery, cucumber, watermelon, strawberry, or drink lots of ice in Winter (this damages your spleen energy and can interfere with your digestive system), try introducing warming herbs & foods like black pepper, ginger, cinnamon, garlic, onion & try gentler exercise like Yoga, Pilates, Meditation, Tai Chi, Qi Gong & therapies which include Moxa, Acupuncture, Reiki, Reflexology, Aromatherapy & Massage, include hobbies such as reading, brisk walks wrapped up warm in fresh air, avoid over work as this puts strain on the Kidneys and can effect “Kidney Essence”, which is your Jing – Gate of Life I hope you benefit from this knowledge, and I look forward to sharing more information with you next month. LIFESTYLE CHATS TO FASHION DESIGNER
MELISSA YOUNG How did you become a fashion designer? For as long as I can
remember I’ve loved to draw and be creative and this passion grew stronger as I got older. When I was asked at school what I wanted to be when my exams were over, I knew I had to study design and learn the skills to create beautiful dresses. Since my first experience of handling a sewing machine during my first week in college I have aspired to have my own fashion design business. Therefore, after leaving university in 2013, I established Lissa MJY Couture.
It is quite competitive and what advice would you give?
Be unique and true to your own design style. If it does not come naturally from mind to paper re think the concept and make sure your passionate about what you are creating, being passionate about what I am creating and loving what I am seeing assures me I’m being true to my aesthetic. If you don’t love what you’re creating how will anyone else.
Hairstylist: Katie Jones Make-up: Toni Sue
You work with the British fashion council, what is your role? My role as a member of the
management committee at the British Fashion Designer Association is to ensure that our goals and values are met. I am responsible for the day to day running of the association along with my fellow committee council. My other duties include the selection of designers to become members.
Being a designer is all I’ve ever wanted to do. The idea of designing and creating a beautiful garment in your mind then expressing that through illustration, design development and then the construction excites me and I love watching my creations come to life through each process I take.
The aim of the British Fashion Association is to host fashion shows that give all creatives a voice and an environment to be treated and paid fairly.
How did you get into the industry? I was asked to bring my
collection for the models to wear at the Liverpool Hair Style Awards back in 2013. I built connections with photographers, models and other creatives within the industry that later opened up amazing opportunities that lead me to creating more collections that I took to several London fashion week shows as well as showcasing at local fashion shows and photo shoots. This boosted my presence within the fashion industry and those experiences and connection lead me to host my first charity fashion show in 2014 and this opened me up to bigger opportunities. I was scouted by recruiters for Paris fashion week, so myself and a team of 20 other creatives, that I had selected to join me for their various skills, travelled to exhibit my evening dress collection in Paris. From then I have worked as a bespoke fashion designer making one of pieces for clients and making seasonal collection that I use within fashion shows and photoshoots locally and abroad. The latest show I did was Liverpool Fashion Week and I hope to be back this year. 24

What do think will be trending in 2022? For 2022 spring summer you will see soft fabrics in bright colours and autumn winter will bring sequins and lace in warm metallics.
What is your essential go to piece in your wardrobe? A pair of chunky sole boots, whether I’m going casual with a cute top and leggings or dressing it up with a dress they are always a statement and edgy piece.
Describe your style It’s a mixture
of sexy famine elegance and avant gard. I love to use beautiful fabrics such as soft chiffon, lace, satin and tulle in figure sculpturing silhouettes that grace the floor for an evening glamour feel. To create depth, I hand stitch bold surface detailing and appliqué and to create texture and volume I love contrasting fabrics and using bold pattern cutting designs.

T
he first thing I notice when you talk to me is how many people say I have a positive, warm soul and a passion for beauty. For me it’s all about taking care on oneself and finding happiness in small rituals, and then your inner beauty will shine through. I am constantly researching new products and ingredients all the time and I’m lucky because I get to try new products, I do try every product before I write about them as I think it’s important, and not just once or twice, they get a thorough using before I give my thoughts. I broke out into the beauty industry back in the early 2000s and, to be honest, I’ve never looked back. 2011 was a monumental year as I decided to make it a full time career, and burst into the wedding industry. Now my main job is a wedding hair and make up specialist, my dream job. So I know what I am talking about when it comes to beauty as I bring out the best in my brides. My day to day beauty routine is actually quite simple, In the morning I double cleanse, apply a serum, moisturize, add an eye cream, and always finish with SPF. In the evening it’s a similar routine but I will use my
more potent and heavier formulas (and no SPF). And twice a week I do a deeper exfoliation and use masks. My go to products are Elemis & The ordinary which is a more affordable option with great results. While many ask what are my must-haves in my make up kit, I always have the same answer - what is good for me may not be suitable for you. We all have different skin and textures and unless I can see your skin in person I can’t say honestly what I can recommend you. So find a local beautician who specilaisise in skincare who can give you some advice Every few weeks schedule in a beauty date with yourself. Reexamine your routine, take note of which products your using and which you aren’t as it will help you become a better consumer and understand your skins forever changing needs. And now, a quick fire round: First thing in the morning- A cup of tea and splash my face with cold water! My Makeup bag is never without- My favourite lipstick which is Mac in the shade Pink Plaid! The best beauty tip I’ve heard- Double cleanse your face!
The beauty look I love isNatural Glam! And a feline eyeliner flick. The last product I finished was- Olaplex shampoo & Conditioner. Before I go to sleep- I spray some lavender on my pillow, headphones in and listen to a brief meditation to relax me! The fragrance I love- Guerlain Insolence. My best high street beauty buy- Cerave’s moisturising cream. For Hair Maintenance- Neal & Wolf Serum. Finally my biggest beauty regret- Not hydrating my skin enough when I was younger! If you would like to your brand to be featured then drop me an email at emmaculatethestudio@ hotmail.com. I am always looking to help grow small businesses and support our beauty community.
Sending love, Emma xxx 25
GRAPHIC ARTIST
Lifestyle chats to illustration artist Giuseppe Minervini How did you become an artist? I believe that
you become an artist when you realize that you have the constant need to express your creativity, to the point that this becomes the priority among your life choices. I remember having always drawn and wanted to share my creations with others. But only later I have chosen to make my inclinations into a job. In the south of Italy, being an artisti is still not considered a safe life. I was young and I was attending a technical institute, it was clearly the wrong school, but then I decided to take the most natural path for me, and I remained consistent on this decision. 26
What skills does it requires? First of all
sensitivity, then a sense of observation, curiosity and then clearly a good dose of fun, because
this is the best way to be motivated and devote yourself to constant growth and learning that requires commitment if you want to reach good levels.
What projects have you worked on? I have
worked on various types of projects, mainly related to comics, starting to publish various works in Italy since 2007, but also children's books, illustrations, storyboards for animation videos. I feel lucky to be very flexible in my work so I was able to vary the style to adapt to different projects, while maintaining my own identity.
What has been your biggest challenge? The
first time I tackled the creation of a comic book of over 60 pages, I was faced with a great challenge. There is a lot of work to organize in various phases, all of which are important. From the design of the characters and scenarios, to the transposition of the scripts into storyboards, the choice of narration times and shots and then the elaboration of the final pages. Sometimes it almost seems to have a film crew in your head, and it is also normal for various unexpected events to occur during processing, so you must always be ready to find solutions and solve problems.
Tell us about what you’re working on now? Now I'm working on the second Assholios book with Sterkoti productions. In the meantime, I also deal with painting and I am active in the Berlin art scene.
What excites you about a project? I am excited by all the processing stages of a project, building all the elements to make a story work and then seeing the finished product. It is a long journey so when it comes to the final result it is very rewarding. Clearly I like to work on projects in which I have a great component of creative freedom and I can provide my contribution with personal initiatives and ideas.
As an artist do you ever switch off creatively? Let's say that the phase of deep creative concentration must be managed very carefully because it can require a lot of energy. Though this is a job that never really switch off. Each component of life, each input can
be useful for acquiring elements that can be used in the creative process. Ideas often come at times when you least expect them and you can't ignore them, but it is important to develop and use them if possible.
What inspires you? I am
inspired by the people, the variety of individuals, the diversity of places people live and the stories. Listening to stories is the greatest inspiration for someone who wants to tell stories.
Did your talent help you through the pandemic? The
pandemic is certainly a particular situation that we will remember for a long time. I found myself taking note of the events, because despite their tragic nature, I believe a lot can be learned from this great interlude of collective difficulty. Then clearly those who are able to use a talent, like writing, painting, drawing or music, can use this as a safe refuge in difficult times.
What is your ambition?
continue on my path, I like to achieve personal improvements from year to year and I am willing to keep on. One wish I have would be one day to develop some personal illustrated literature projects.
When do you decide you’re happy with a project? I always try to
do everything possible to make a quality contribution to the project I am working on. Clearly perfection does not exist, but for example, as regards a comic book, I am happy when the reading of the story is fluid, pleasant and enjoyable to the eye.
What are your new year’s resolutions? For
the new year I would like to complete the second book of Assholios and carry out the projects I am already working on, but I also have the hope that the global situation will come back to normal, allowing all people who work in the cultural and entertainment fields to participate in various events around the world without problems.
My ambition is to

LIVE MUSIC
Top Liverpool DJ James Grenside aka Grenno chats to Lifestyle When did you discover your love of music? I've always loved music ever since I was a kid and I played drums in a band growing up. My entire family played some form of musical instrument and it's just something I grew up with. My mum was into classical musical and used to try to teach me the piano and clarinet. She won't admit it but she was definitely gutted when she saw me picking up drums as I got older! She wanted me to be the modern Mozart.
week I got the cheapest possible set I could find to practice at home. They were absolutely terrible. I ended up just going into the club to practice instead. I loved it though. I've never looked back since.
When did you get your first decks?
I never actually had much of a desire to DJ at first. I just loved music and was always very creative. I started to appreciate Dance music when I was around 18. I got to know the DJ in the club I used to go to because I sent him silly mashups I made and he thought they were great! We became friends and one time he asked me to cover him while he went on holiday. It was a bit of a baptism of fire as I'd never DJ'ed before. So that
What is your style?
I suppose I'm quite aggressive and energetic with my sets. Which is funny because I'm pretty chill in real life. But when I'm throwing tracks out, I want them big and bold.
How did you get into producing? I always
wanted some career making music. That was a decision I made from a young age. I knew it would be difficult but I knew I wanted to give it a go.
And then when I fell into DJing, it just seemed like a natural progression. I can produce dance tracks and then play them in my sets. Production is so hard though. Playing in a band, there are of you and you have one single instrument. When you're producing, you're writing, arranging and then mixing the entire thing yourself. And you also have to choose which instruments you want and decide whether they all fit together. It's a nightmare. But there is no better feeling to playing your music out and getting a reaction from the crowd. It really is worth all the hard work
What were your views on Spotify last year?
I'm fairly new to spotify, I've only been releasing music on there for 18 months. And I'll be honest, I didn't use it before then! I always got my music from podcasts or DJ mailing lists. I can't imagine my life without it now though. It's great.
Where is your favourite
place to gig? Fusion.
That place feels like home. And when it's rammed and popping off, there is no place like it.
Do you have a rider?
Actually, no! People always look at me shocked, because I always turn up to gigs with my own food and water! Haha. I'm just so used to eating and drinking on my own schedule I just bring it with me. I got given a bottle of grey goose as a thank you once though. That didn't last long.
Is it hard working such irregular hours? The
hours themselves aren't difficult. You get used to them fairly quickly. What is difficult though is the sleeping pattern. You can do the hours and sleep fine but one tiny thing - a night out or an early morning - and it can completely destroy your sleeping pattern. And with no exaggeration, it can literally take months to get your rhythm back. You'll spend weeks not being able to get to sleep. That really is a killer.
Tell us about your chart success last year? It was a bit mad really. My first ever original/spotify release (that's a non remix track, so all my own work) ended up in the top 100 most downloaded tracks on Beatport, which is the
DJ version of amazon music. So at one point my track was in the top 100 most downloaded dance tracks in the world. Absolutely mad.
Who would you like to collaborate with?
There's definitely a hint of imposter syndrome here. I think if anyone big asked me to collab, I'd be tempted to refuse because I don't feel I'm at that level yet. That happens a lot in that industry, there are no qualifications or grades so you don't know where you fit into everything. You just have to guess the level you're at. If I was going to choose someone though, it would be my best mate Josh Samuel. We got halfway through a track last year and it was a rammer and we just never finished it. If he's reading this he needs to get round to mine so we can finish it!
Who is your music idol? When I was a teenager, my absolute idol was Travis Barker (a drummer obviously). I admired him so much for how humble he was even though he was so talented. And I admired his insane work rate. The guy never stopped grinding. I definitely took a lot of that with me growing up. Stay Humble, practice your craft and work your a**e off. I think that's a great way to aspire to be.
How do you keep on top of musical trends?
I listen to music non stop. When I'm in the gym, whenever I'm moving, whenever I'm working, whenever I'm with friends. In my spare time I go to events and gigs. I love it. It's very easy when you get older to slow down and stop seeking out new music. And you just end up regurgitating how you loved certain bands/ artists when you were 16. And music isn't the same now as it was. I couldn't imagine doing that. Music is great.
What do you love about your job? I only
recently discovered that it's not actually normal to completely enjoy what you do. I had a conversation with my brother and he was saying how he was unhappy in his job; he didn't enjoy it. And I said "well why don't you leave?". He replied saying "If only it were that easy". It was then that I realised that its normal for people to be stuck in jobs they hate; working for people they don't know. I could not imagine that. I absolutely love going into work. I love what I do. And I love that everything I do progresses me as a person. I'm not working for anyone but myself. And I wouldn't have it any other way.

GIN
THE SPIRIT OF
BARCELONA
T
o say that Ginraw is unique is an understatement. A contemporary or ‘modern’ gin, this style is still not legally defined, however Ginraw sits firmly in the very epicentre of that description. While it does contain juniper, as all gins should, and great botanicals, its methodology is revolutionary and brings to the forefront how gins are developing every single day. Originating in Barcelona, Ginraw was developed by a pair of entrepreneurs, Roger Burgués and Lluís Jáuregui, who doubting that there was a gin to meet their exacting gastronomic standards, brought in four masters of their craft: a chef, a sommelier, a mixologist and a perfumer - yes, a perfumer - to produce a gin like no other.
Combining their talents to craft a superior gin with sublime character and a personality that reflects the avant-garde gastronomic
spirit and standards of Barcelona demanded thinking outside of the box. And here is where it gets interesting…. The first process takes a wheat-base and juniper in single-batch copper still distillation. They then utilised a unique distillation process using low-temperature distillation using a Rotaval, a machine invented by one of the top restaurants of molecular gastronomy in Spain. Produced with the finest botanicals, individually sourced and harvested fresh and in season from their top growing locations, the two sets of ingredients are used in the Rotaval method Mediterranean botanicals including lemon peel, citron peel, and laurel leaves; and exotic botanicals including kaffir lime leaves, black cardamom, and coriander

seeds. These two sets of botanicals macerate in the distillate before being individually distilled, and the flavours are delicate yet flavoursome. The resulting distillates are then blended and bottled at 42.3% ABV. Ginraw’s nose is juniperforward, with fresh pine and peppercorn up front, and lime zest and coriander in the background. Herbaceous, leafy and somewhat savoury on the palate at first, further waves of fresh citrus roll in and positively sing out their flavours and aromas in Ginraw. This is a special gin and rightfully deserves the accolade that follows its name. Ginraw is pure madness, but oh, so sublime.
