Maiden, Slayer, Pantera, and of course, Alice Cooper. Drummer Romie Behunin wrote about funny things they saw in the paper, or about themselves. The band is about creativity, and the it wouldn’t work with out the band members, who are all like brothers. Comprised of members Marty Deleslie on guitars, Johnny Vigil drums, Romie Vehunin on drums and Spud F. Reily as lead vocalist, Laughter’s Not Enough started out as a cover band. Romie joined up and Johnnie came up with the name. They wanted to produce music that was “heavy, but funny”, with a death-metal background. While Spud is more old school, drawing from the likes of Judas Priest and Iggy Pop, Johnny is inclined toward Death Metal. Put this together with parody songs and a visceral stage show, and Laughter’s Not Enough will leave you wanting more. “I really like insanity,” says Spud, and wants the audience to join in the fun. Spud himself is all about insanity, wearing studded collars, choke collars, or even women’s two-piece bathing suits on stage, whatever the mood strikes him to do. He’s unpredictable, even to his band-mates, who are often taken off guard by some of the things their lead vocalist comes up with. Their CD, “Not Fluent In Stupid”, came out in 2006, and was recorded in Krum, Texas at Indian Trails Studio owned by Harvey Gersch. The band showed up with just guitars, and the studio provided them with the rest of the instruments, including the exact type of drums that Romie Vehunin prefers to use. They did the harmonies for the CD three months later, with the final mixes done via the internet. Three different keys are used on “Not Fluent In Stupid”, with two more for a total of five planned for the next CD. The metal they play is more humorous, and made for everyone. They have comedy lyrics with metal influences, and most of their songs are off the top of their head, poking fun at themselves, or George Bush, even though most of the band members voted for him. The songs “Cellulite” and “Love Handles” are parodies of the guys in the band growing older. With their ages ranging from 35-56 years old, it’s not hard for them to come up with material for their songs. “I Can’t Believe Its Not Butter” pokes fun at peeping toms, while “Wok The Dog” is about cutbacks in the economy and lost animals. Weekends, they say, are the best, because they’ve been known to write three songs in a day, and they can let their hair down, relax from their day jobs, hang out and have fun. “Even in the hardest times,” says Marty, they’re the best of friends.

Although they all currently reside in Amarillo, Johnny is the only band member actually born here. Marty is originally from Manchester, NH, while Romey was born in Bakersfield, California, and moved to Amarillo when he was five. Spud F. Reily was born in Bermuda, and lived in Detroit, MI before winding up in the heart of the Texas Panhandle. Spontaneous, their shows are unplanned and in the moment. They may bring props, but use only what they feel like using for that particular show. They’ve been known to use stage blood, and sometimes Spud will use special-effect contacts. Laughter’s Not Enough is also one of the few bands that incorporate ‘reverse vocalization’ in their songs. That is, essentially inhaling and singing at the same time. This gives an eerie, surreal effect to their music. Two Death Metal songs on their new CD employ the reverse breathing technique. One of the songs, titled “Thin Skin”, is not funny, so not played as often, as it is sung from the point of view of a serial killer. Reverse vocalization is employed about half the time, as they want the audience to be able to understand most of the parodies on life and themselves. Check out their My Space page at www.myspace.com/ laughtersnotenough or www.laughtersnotenough.com Laughter’s Not Enough tries to play Amarillo at least once a month, and they want to make sure that people understand that their lyrics are not to be taken seriously, as they are just poking fun. Remember, it’s all parody, and sometimes, laughter is the best medicine.

www.amarilloscene.com A “Not-So-Old” Dog Can Learn New Tricks By Cristi Spring I’m not one to fill out surveys, mail in rebates or write testimonials...but in this particular case I was so affected by a single meeting that I was compelled to share my experience. One of the girls that I work with came in my office about two months ago and just stood and starred at me daring me to figure out what was “different” about her. She has black hair with green eyes, but that day her eyes seemed particularly piercing. It took several guesses until she proceeded to tell me that she went by “The Loft” to try their bareMinerals make-up to compare it to another mineral makeup that she was using at the time. The way her eyes “popped” and brightened her whole face peaked my interest. Now mind you, I have been using bareMinerals for about 10 years now. Of course I was “sold” by their infomercial and ended up joining their “club”, in which they deliver a new supply every three months automatically. I only use the bareMinerals foundation and the “Warmth”, which is like a bronzer, as a blush. Other than that I have tried different shades of eye shadow but I have pretty much worn my makeup exactly the same for the past 10 years. When I stepped into “The Loft”, I had no intention of buying anything, I just wanted to check out the store and look at the eye shadow kit that my co-worker had used. Upon walking into “The Loft” I was greeted by Sandy, the owner. I told her that my friend had just come in for a makeover and I would like to check out what she had used on her. Sandy was a warm and inviting woman who cheerfully offered me a chair and asked me what I was currently using and if I wanted a “touch-up” or if I wanted to play “dressup”. I said, “let’s play dress-up and you do whatever you think would look good on me”. She proceeded to pull out a variety of brushes and little containers with various color powders in them. The bareMinerals foundation kit comes with two shades of foundation to be used with the changing of the seasons or to blend to get the right color for your face. I have always been very impressed with the coverage of bareMinerals. Such a small amount of sheer, soft powder goes a long way and is able to even out variations in your skin tone. First, Sandy brought out the “Bisque” which is a cover up powder. I had received this powder in one of my first kits but never really believed that a sheer powder was powerful enough for the dark circles under my eyes. I have always started my makeup application with a thick cream coverup, then powder and more cream. She applied the “Bisque” under my eyes, in the corner of my eyes and around my nose. Hmmm...no dark spots. Sandy told me of the two foundations that I had been receiving, I was using the wrong shade. She said I have pink undertones to my skin and the “Light” foundation I had been using had peach undertones which turned out orange on my face. I just considered it a “bronzed look” since by skin is so pale. Sandy brushed on the “Fairly Light” and I couldn’t believe that my skin looked creamy and not “bronze”. She then proceeded to pull out a bright, shimmering shade of pink cheek blush. I thought, “I’ll try it, but I’m not
going to like pink”. Once she applied the pink (where it was supposed to be, since I had been putting it in the wrong place), it brightened my face up. I always thought my skin was “peachy”, but I guess I was wrong. Through the whole process, Sandy asks if I like it, can I tell the difference or how it makes me feel. What stuck with me was she said the most important thing was “that I felt pretty” and she would work around whatever that was. She would apply a powder and step back and look at me as if she were an artist evaluating the progress of her canvas. If it didn’t feel right she would cover it and try a different color. Now that I have been stripped of my peach exterior and replaced with a creamy, rosy skin tone we moved on to my eyes. I have blue eyes and have ALWAYS worn a dark brown eye shadow in the crease of my eyelid, with brown eyeliner, then I would smudge the eyeliner with the eye shadow. That’s how I have always done it. Sandy pulled out another “pink” shade of eye shadow and of course I thought “I’m not going to like pink but go ahead”. She highlighted my brow bone with a shimmering pink. She covered the rest of my eyelid with a mocha color. When she asked how I liked it I told her it was too light for me. Sandy took a glittery eggplant powder and swept it over the crease of my eyelids. Pink, mocha and eggplant...I told Sandy I would never have picked up any of those colors. We both looked at it in the mirror puzzled because we both knew something was missing. Sandy then brought out a shocker...it was an olive green powder with gold glitter in it called “Tortoise”. She brought out a cute tiny brush that was bent on the end and applied the the powder as eyeliner across my top eyelid (I have never worn eyeliner on my top lid) and in the corner only on the bottom. We both looked in the mirror...it still needed something. She handed me a light and feathery mascara and I put it on. Her eyes got bright and she said “that’s it!”. When i looked in the mirror we both started squealing like little girls. She was so pleased that I allowed her to experiment and that i was pleased with the results. Some women like to constantly change their look. Cut their hair, dye their hair a new color, change their makeup according to what they are wearing. Then there are those of us who don’t feel comfortable switching faces or consider our hair part of our identity. I have tried different looks, but always went right back to what I was comfortable with. Not what actually looked best on me, but what I was comfortable with. And a total stranger was capable of making me feel at ease, made me strip away my mask i had worn for so long and....made me feel pretty. Sandy thanked me for coming by, said how much fun she had and to let her know if I ever needed anything. I said, “I’ll take it”. She said “which one honey?” and I said, “I’ll take all of it”. It may sound silly to feel more confident just by changing your make-up but my skin looks creamy, my cheeks are rosy, my eyes look greener, oh and my lips look fuller because she asked me to try a lip gloss called “Pout”...I thought “Sandy I don’t wear lip gloss”, well apparently I do now. Not once did she try to “sell” me any products, but she certainly sold me on a feeling. Thank you for making me feel pretty Sandy!

Las Brisas Southwest Steakhouse By Amy Baucom In Spanish, Las Brisas means “The Breezes.” In Amarillo, it means elegant dining in a elegant, yet relaxing atmosphere. Located at 3311 Olsen Blvd, Las Brisas opened November 14, 2008, and is owned by Fred Popanz, who owns another Las Brisas Southwest Steakhouse in Lubbock. Offering over fifteen different varieties of wine, and 300 bottles on the list, wine lovers are sure to find something to their liking. The most expensive wine on the list is Colgin IX Estate Proprietary Red Blend, which sells for $700.00 per bottle. California wines are the most requested, and wine accounts for approximately 60% of their alcohol sales per month, say Jimmy Rogers, General Manager and Wine Director. Las Brisas Southwest Steakhouse offers wines and beers from all over the world, including Germany, Belgium, Chile, New Zealand and Brazil. They offer a full bar, and no Uni-card is required. One brand of wine is unique, as the wine maker dips his hands in paint, and wraps his hand around the bottle, leaving behind an intriguing one-of-a-kind design. Las Brisas menu is full of a mouthwatering selection of entrees, appetizers and desserts, and they offer a Sunday Breakfast Brunch for $14.99 for adults, and $5.99 for children 12 and under. On the buffet, you will find ham, French Toast Casserole, biscuits and gravy, pastries and fresh fruit. Omelets and Belgian Waffles are made on request, and they will be adding quiche and smoked salmon later on. The breakfast buffet is only available from 10:302:00pm on Sundays.

STEAKHOUSE
The restaurant’s entrees include beef, pork, chicken, seafood and some Mexican dishes, and are cooked by their head chef, who trained at the Culinary institute in Scottsdale. The beef is Reserve Black Angus, aged 14 days, and all steak entrees come with salad, sauteed asparagus, and a choice of southwest mashed potatoes, or baked potato. The most popular beef entree is the filet, and their hamburgers are made with ground tenderloin. The special is the Kobi beef, from cattle raised in Japan, and considered the world’s premier beef. A 14-oz New York Kobi beef strip is priced at $59.99 on the menu. Of course, they have other selections, such as the popular breaded and pan-seared Sea Bass, as well as salmon, shrimp, King crab legs and complete lobster tails that can be ordered either steamed or grilled. Try the Chicken Roulade or pecan-encrusted, bone-in pork chop. Their Mexican food includes enchiladas made with softer, sweeter blue corn tortillas, Chilie Rellanos, and Ahi Tuna tacos, made with Sushi-grade tuna. For dessert, there is a sweet selection to choose from, including Bananas Foster prepared table-side, Kaluha Creme Brulee, or Brandy Butter Apple Dumpling, a cinnamon sugar-pastry wrapped apple with warm brandy-infused butter and served on a sizzling skillet. Las Brisas Southwest Steakhouse has a seating capacity of 190, and there is no smoking inside the restaurant. They also have a meeting room that seats 50, and is equipped with a screen and projector. It is advised to book the meeting room thirty days in
