The world is indeed a different place now than it was then! Fast forward to March 2017, where we begin to emerge from hibernation and start to leave the dark and gloomy, winter weather behind us; we move towards a brighter season, where we are delighted to introduce to you our 2017 Spring Promotion Brochure. Founder Florian Faude produces a clean and unique range of locally sourced fruit and vegetable flavoured spirits and liqueurs, including a beetroot and green walnut liqueur. Named the Miracle of Amsterdam, we are also very excited to announce the latest arrival from A.v.Wees Distillery, Van Wees Mirakel van Amsterdam Zeer Oude Genever. The only genever currently produced using an ancient species of wheat grain, called emmerwheat, which was used in beer production by the Mesopotamians 8000 years BC. Often considered the missing link between Dutch genever and modern dry gins, we also saw the arrival of Greenhook Ginsmiths Old Tom Gin, as well as, Rives Sloe Gin, Bonpland Rum from the creators of Ferdinand's Gin and Spirit of Hven Seven Stars No.5 Alioth Single Malt Whisky.

It is not a secret that the culture of drinking is different everywhere you go in the world. When you think of France you imagine a deep, smooth, warming bottle of Bordeaux; the Caribbean, a spiced rum and coke on the beach. In the case of the Nordics, it’s the spirit of hygge - comfort, friendship, warmth and sharing, over a few bottles of beer or Danish øl. Nordic is very much on trend for 2017, with music (The Goat), TV series (Nordic

Noir & Fortitude), film, art, food and drinks. Aquavit or Akvavit (the Scandinavian spelling) will be an integral part of this trend, whether it be Swedish style Aquavits, such as Spirit of Hven and O.P Anderson, Norwegian Aquavits such as Linie and Danish Aquavits including Aalborg. Aquavit is traditionally drunk chilled or on its own but also mixes extremely well in cocktails, or with tonic, and complements food exceptionally well.

Aquavit is an aromatic, similar to its much more famous cousin gin, because of that it does work in classic gin cocktails without changing the recipe too much. Aquavit also has the ideal spice combination, caraway, fennel, anise and coriander, to mix well with sweet tiki style, rum cocktails. #WinesToTheWorld If you love your wine and have an open mind about experimenting with different styles and regions, you will no doubt have your ear to the ground when it comes to new trends in winemaking techniques and breakout regions. A prime example of this is our Werner Riesling Orange Wine, a natural Riesling from the Mosel region in Germany, that has undergone MLF and is aged for 18 months in old barriques with minimal SO2 addition. It shouldn’t have worked but it is an absolute knockout! New Zealand also continues to show that it can offer more than just Sauvignon Blanc. There is certainly no shortage of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir across the two islands and traditional method production is becoming increasingly popular. From the godfather of sparkling wine in New Zealand, we have No.1 Family Estate produced by Daniel Le Brun, his wife Adele and their children Virginie and Remy. Greece, a new generation of winemakers, is also showing great potential, with the emergence of family-run wineries focusing on exciting and unusual indigenous varieties, such as our agency producer, Tselepos. Also not forgetting the best of the best from Australian producers, Woodstock, Barao Madeira from Portugal, italian classics, Febe and Fattoria and Anané from Chile.
